Joe Defender / Re: 2012 SDCC Shockwave HISS and Jinx
« on: June 4, 2012, 12:32 PM »
I'm going to bump this because SDCC is just over a month away.  Is anyone attending that could help me out with the exclusives this year?  The Shockwave set and Jinx?  PM me if you can.

Because the parachutes were actual cloth!  I don't think GI Joe made any cloth chutes in the vintage era, they were all plastic.  I had a FP parachute set that got a lot of work also.

Someone bought the blue CC from Walmart that I left on Monday and that's the only single carded figure that's moved besides what I bought.  A few of the Alpha motorcycles have sold but that's it.

Target sold Zartan and one other figure, one of the dupes of 'Block, Snake or Storm...I didn't look closely enough to see which.  I think someone bought a Bravo vehicle and that's all that's moved there besides what I bought.

This is the off season for toy buying here, though.  The two colleges just finished so those students are gone, not everyone is back from other schools and other than this past weekend, the summer people aren't here yet.

If even the other local Joe collectors haven't bit on these yet, unless someone does some speculating, the stuff is gonna rot without a film to back it.  But another down side to that is when this stuff does shift, whether or not that's at full retail or discount, I don't think buyers are not going to be that interested when it all makes a come back in 9 months.

I had quite a few of these but, sadly, I believe they fell victim to yard sales and the like.  I had the same plane/boat/6-wheeler as well as a safari set and some smaller ones like the racing motor cycle set.

These were the first action figures I remember having but they kind of got replaced by Star Wars and GI Joe.

Yeah, they retooled that whole vehicle.  That's how they got it back down to $20 when the previous Delta vehicles had been pushing up towards $30 at some stores.

I passed on it today and it's one of the reasons I picked up the Crimson version and tracked down a loose brown tank when I had the chance.  I wanted to get the nicely detailed ones before Hasbro moved on to this model.  I don't know if I'll bother with it.  It's nice, but I'll probably pass.

I almost came out of Target with the Ghost Hawk, though.  I just don't like the huge engines on the otherwise undersized wings.  I still wish they'd gotten that RoC Howler done.  That was an excellent piece.

Yeah...I've got a couple comments on this piece of news but I won't spoil anything.  It's early, but if this is an indication of what direction they take with the villain then I may not be that happy with it.

I found a full stock of Retaliation toys at Target after work.  Didn't look like anything had been touched before I got there.  All 12 figures (Black CC, tan GI Joe Trooper), Battle Pack, Alpha, Bravo & Delta vehicles and role play stuff.

The $9.99 price is ridiculous, though.  The Spider-Man figures were that price also.  Still, I picked up CC, Joe Trooper and a Red Ninja along with the BP of Kamakura, Beachhead and Roadblock.

I probably should have snagged the blue CC at Walmart Monday but didn't.  It was gone Tuesday night, the only other figure missing since I took three out Monday morning.

My Walmart sold through the whole lot of sets with the exception of Helms Deep.  I think it was a clean sweep of all the rest.

And I don't think Target has gotten them in yet.

Non-attending pre-orders went up today about 7:30 and sold out in less than 3 hours according to the Club's email.  They set aside some boxed and bagged sets for non-attending and they apparently have a few left for attendees but they're not allowing people to double-up on orders this year.

I got my order in for a boxed and bagged set but I'm not going to count it until I get confirmation that my order went through.  I jumped in about 10 minutes after the email hit so I'm hoping all is good.

It's not cheap, though.  The prices on both the boxed and bagged sets are up, no free shipping this year and they're charging a $6 processing fee which I don't recall from previous years.

I went back to Target about 7:30 and nothing.  I didn't expect to find anything but they were doing stock when I was there around 11:30.

When I stopped this morning there was a cart in the action figure aisle with a box of reshop stuff, I think, but when I first saw it I thought it might be there because they were setting new pegs.  I rounded the corner at 7:30 and the cart was still there.  Good job, Target...  ::)

Walmart had a blue CC and my Joe Trooper has the blue cape.  Is this another blue vs "red" thing with WM and Target?

I think Roadblock is 2x per case along with SS and SE.  So that's 6 and the 1x are CC, Zartan, GI Joe Trooper, Red Ninja, Duke and Cobra Trooper.

Nothing at Target today and they hadn't started their reset yet, which I is what I expected to find knowing the history of the store.

Headed to Walmart and they'd actually pulled all the clearance stuff out of the action figure aisle and had the pegs set but no stock out yet, it was all still on the cart.  I went and snagged lunch and came back to find the Retaliation stuff stocked.  One case of figures, Alpha vehicles, the Battle Kata 10" stuff and role play.  No Battle Packs or Bravo vehicles.

I picked up the Red Ninja, GI Joe Trooper and Zartan at $8.96 each and left.  I may head over to Target later this afternoon but don't expect to find anything...they're always a day or two behind on their toy aisle resets plus I really don't want to pay 10 per figure.

And, yes, Hasbro admitted that they may have priced their RoC figures too high in '09.  But I don't know what Target was thinking when they hiked the Renegades/30th price to $10.99 when they had product on the pegs that wasn't moving at $7.99.  They're off their rocker.

There has been some talk on Twitter that Hasbro sent a memo to TRU, at least, telling them to push the toys now rather than wait for Monday which was the original street date.

Since WM and Target generally lag a little on resetting their aisles, even if they got a memo, I wouldn't count on seeing them empty their back rooms until the weekend or even next week as originally planned.

But, I go back to what I said last night; I have to believe that Hasbro is going to get hammered by the toy buyers for these big chains over this.  Doesn't look like Hasbro stock suffered because of the announcement, at least not yet, but I'm sure this throws their entire summer toy plan for GI Joe out the window.  I can't even beging to guess at what we'll see at retail from them after June.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: GI Joe Retaliation - The Movie

I've seen the theory floated that Retaliation screened really terribly and the reason for the 3D conversion is to reshoot the crap as much as it is to shoot additional 3D scenes and then convert it.

The Rock tweeted "designing new scenes to enhance 3D" when a guy posted that he hoped 3D is worth the wait.  That kind of says to me that they need to fix something.

Don't know.

I do know this; it shouldn't be that hard to create a decent movie with characters and a history that's 30 years old.  There's so much story to pick and choose from whether it's cartoon or comic or action figure file cards.  There are nearly endless story ideas that could be adapted and modernized and crafted into a movie that pays homage to what came before while being different enough to be original and entertaining.

I'm generally disgusted with Hollywood anyway.  While I loved Avengers and The Hunger Games, my three favorite films so far this year are Haywire, John Carter and Act of Valor.  With the exception of John Carter, the other two weren't what I'd call big studio movies but they were all really good.

It may be unfair to Hasbro to call them out over this, I'm sure this was Paramount generated, but it being a Hasbro property, it seems like they would have had some type of input.

I doubt that Paramount suffers any financial impact as far as Hasbro's toy plans and releases go, but the advertising that they did, Super Bowl commercials aren't cheap, has already cost some money.  Unless I saw the ledger proving otherwise, I still don't see how this isn't a big financial blow to Paramount.  I can only guess what it'll do to Hasbro, but it's not going to do anything good.

Hell, Hasbro even cancelled the Renegades toon because they were concentrating on the movie and didn't want to confuse people.  I'm thinking THAT decision suddenly doesn't look so good either.

I've always been as much a fan of Hasbro's as I have of their SW and Joe toy lines.  But even my patience has about run out with them and their fault or not, this isn't helping their case with me.
