30th Anniversary Collection / Re: EE Mandalorian 14 Pack
« on: May 28, 2007, 03:24 PM »
Let the non-answers begin!

Is this truly 14 figs for $69 and change or is it two sets of 7 figures for $69+?

Two packs of 7.   When the item goes up for preorders on Tuesday at Noon (I AM THE PLUG KING) it will only be as a the full set at the special price of $66.99.   We will not be selling them individually or by the case on Tuesday at Noon, only as the "14 pack."

Will there be a female Mandos? (I understand if you can't answer this or any of the others, but I hope so. Some of those conept female Mandos look awesome.)

Will Boba and Jango be two of the figures in the sets?

If yes on Jango, will he be one fo the 14 point figures?

Are any of the following in the sets:
Montross
Jodo Kast
Jaster Mereel

If so which ones?

The rest of the characters will be revealed at Comic-Con, but I'll go ahead and throw you a bone-- no Jodo.  Llats Ward looks a lot like Jodo, but he ain't Jodo, and Jodo won't be in this set.  The characters in this set, by and large, look quite different from one another-- with a couple of exceptions.  There isn't another greenish Mandalorian in the set, take that as you will.

I'd keep going but well, it is being marketed as a bit of a mystery set.  (And don't forget EE lets you cancel any pre-order with no penalty if you order it on Tuesday and decide after the announcement that you don't much care for it.  Risk-free, yay.)  That's good enough for now, I think, so there ya go!

Ok Adam if you make it back in and can share it...how many of the 14 figures have 14 points of Articulation?

More than half.  Well, in theory anyway-- I haven't got to play with these so I don't know if a cape might hinder movement or something just yet.

Although I think some of the ones with fewer points of articulation are going to make some fans do cartwheels and be a bigger incentive to get the sets than the super-articulated figures, depending on what turns one's crank as a SW fan.  Of course I'm a bit of a sucker for action figures and I can't pass on anything, but still, this looks like it should be a fun set.  Holsters, helmets, guns, backpacks... the bang-for-the-buck should definitely be there.

(And to dispell another rumor, no, there's no Wookiees in the set.   I'm not sure how that one got started.   Is there a Mandalorian Wookiee in the EU that I missed or something?  Not that it wouldn't be cool, mind you, I got a Snoova as a permanent fixture on my desk and the idea sounds cool enough.)

Also, and this will show my age, what is a pod cast?  I'd love to listen/watch, and only this weekend realized how ubiquitous those things are....

"On demand Internet programming" is a simple way to put it, but when in doubt for a good definition, I always say look at Wikipedia-- it explains things like this rather well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting

In the case of the one I do for Entertainment Earth, it's just the one I did at 16bit.com rebranded and slightly repurposed.  Meaning it's me, in my living room, with a crappy microphone talking about stuff-- audio only.   I've been told I've got a voice for movies, specifically the silent era, so it's totally worth checking out.   (It's basically just an MP3 of toy news, usually whatever caught my eye for the week.  Meaning it's almost always Hasbro SW/TF/Joe stuff as that's what I dig.)

14?  14!?  How did they arrive at that number?  This sound interesting, but 14 figures from essentially the same mold seems to be alot.

What makes you think they're all going to use the same molds?   :)   Or for that matter, all Mandalorians?   While we love sets that work on a theme, sometimes variety is good too.

A question for Adam in case he stops by again - will there be "bulk-purchase" options for this one too?  Like the "by-the-case" options that EE had for the Clones and Droids? (always looking to save some bucks ;))

Always in motion is the future, but we priced these to be the best possible deal we could-- especially compared to other exclusives on the market over the past few years.   But for the sake of customizers/troop builders/compulsive hoarders/collector groups, anything is possible.  Just keep writing in and asking, you never know what might happen.   I'm always watching boards for fan requests like this-- if there's something Entertainment Earth can do for you, hey, ask.   The more people that clamor for it, the better.

This looks like a very interesting set, here's my big question though for you Adam hopefully you can answer this. Being that you've been known to push for the more old-school toon/comic characters of the 80's, is it possible that Fenn Shysa is part of this set? That would be beyond cool!

At this time, additional details surrounding the set are being kept under wraps for Comic-Con 2007.  But hints unrelated to your question, I can do-- the stories behind these action figures are set against the backdrop of the Clone Wars.    There are figures in this package which some fans will recognize.  There are also figures in this set fans will not recognize.

I think/hope customizers will dig it-- there should be plenty of parts to inspire new creations.

Neat exclusive, didn't see this one coming. Hopefully there'll be some KOTOR era Mandos included, maybe Canderous.

KOTOR?  *spit*  No.

As corporate law requires it, I'll be doing a special episode of the Entertainment Earth Podcast on Tuesday about just this item.   So for all 37 listeners of the show, you're in for a treat.

WHERE ARE THESE?!! Its been months since the last wave, and months since these have been revealed.

This wait SUCKS...

If you pre-ordered at a certain online store you might be in for a surprise in the coming hours...

It probably retailers cleaning out their storerooms.

Actually, it's new mixes of old figures-- Hasbro has several new revisions which are just STARTING to ship this month, with quasi-new figures like Jango Fett with a red holo figure.   These will probably be available through at least the summer, and since Saga Legends and TSC share the same basic SKU, I wouldn't hold your breath for clearances either-- it's just going to transition from one to the other.

****, now all the coin collectors are gonna buy the DaarkTrooper just for the coin... Leaving none for the people who actually want the figure, like me. Does anyone know if the DT is packed 2x or in multiple cases?

Hasbro has confirmed three assortments featuring the Darktrooper at one per case.  You can find the exact breakdowns at the following shameless promotion for my employer:

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?searchfield=darktrooper

Currently, we have these pencilled in for June, but as Saga Legends wave 1 isn't out yet, this is of course subject to change.

The Saga Legends assortment is going to be shipping all year long and, like with The Saga Collection, there will undoubtedly be more end-of-the-line remixes well into 2008.   (We're just getting some more late-wave remixes here at EE and according to reports, so are a lot of other stores too.)    So as long as everybody makes a nice big stink about the figures they can't find come Comic-Con, I'm sure Hasbro will adjust their assortments to put out at least a few more.  Even if it takes a few months.

My experiences in Phoenix and Tucson, AZ were pretty much identical.  Actually, stuff was easier to get there than it was in LA, and when I lived in Phoenix, people in LA always told me stuff was harder to get here.   I've also had people that live in tiny towns like Cottonwood who have had no problems finding anything reasonably expected to be found there (open stock stuff) and complained that some "rare" items (MODS 2-pack) were pegwarming.

When I go back to Phoenix, I go to about 8 Wal-Marts-- because that's what I do when I have time to kill.   The stuff is usually out there if you hit enough stores regularly.  If you only have 2 stores in your area, well, that's a different story, but Tucson was a smaller (but not tiny) town and I had no problem tracking down Skiffs there as well as Simpsons figures and everything else when my radius was limited to where my feet could pedal my bike.

One town's pegwarmers are another town's gold.   YMMV.  It's like the whole Unleashed thing-- Hasbro claims a lot of stores were choking on them.  The stores I visited indicated otherwise.   And as stated above, I've had many people in rural areas go on about how whatever exclusive is clogging their pegs when the rest of the country is hunting them like madmen.   Still, the stuff often filters in eventually assuming you didn't miss your two- or three-day window of opportunity to snag it.  (Sure it sucks, but them's the breaks.   I'm not here to discuss some sort of utopian collector project.)

If you live in a town with two stores, well, yeah, it's unrealistic to expect to be able to find everything without a little extra help from outside the community.   But that wasn't the argument I came to make, I just came to post and say "yes, I am enjoying the new figures." :)   Except the freaking Cantina Band tin I can't find and am convinced hasn't hit LA yet as I've been hitting 1-2 of the 3 "reasonable" Wal-Marts in my area every day or two.

Like I said, YMMV.

And, as Brent (Morgbug) is in Canada (you know, a place where they don't actually get every wave thanks to Hasbro Canada and not just because he missed them) his milage varies quite a bit from yours in Sunny SoCal...   ;)

Well, that's Canada, where any and all toy shipments are purely coincidental. :)

Like I said, YMMV.   My Wal-Marts are absolutely stuffed with H*V figures, and yet they get new Saga cases.  About half a dozen of Wave 8 was there on Wednesday and gone this morning.  It's not just "five minutes" but a day or two at times, and crap or no crap, it seems all the dozen plus stores I frequent keep getting new stuff in.

Except Kmart, they suck.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Anyone else losing interest?

<snip>
All my figures (well, not TF Vader) are loose and if there is something carded, it's a duplicate so I could personally care less about rehashes except for the fact that they routinely end up clogging the pegs preventing the arrival of newer releases and oft times resulting in entire waves being missed.  (see DS' arguments regarding H&V, GB)

Just to nitpick, it's usually collectors who scoop stuff up-- it's there, you just miss it.  A Wal-Mart near me got five or six cases of Wave 8 on Wednesday, and there wasn't a trace of them as of about two hours ago.   Obviously, YMMV, all stores are different, and Kmart usually sucks... but this is frequently the case.  They make tens if not hundreds of thousands of these things, they're ending up somewhere.

If an item gets repacked and it continues to sell well, well, I can't blame Hasbro for wanting to sell the same Han in a dozen different boxes.   The lifespan of an action figure at retail has really shrank in recent years, back when I was a kid it wasn't unusual for a toy to be on the market for two years.  Now it's like, what, three months?  So yeah, I'm sick of seeing the same Han Solo time and again, but if it helps Hasbro's bottom line and it sells well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over that stuff.   When the line gets bad enough, I'll step back-- like the Transformers Movie stuff from next year, just not likin' it.  (But McQuarrie figures and ANH human troopers?  Yes please. )

I like the stuff.   Not everything, of course, but I prefer not to dwell on motorcycles and the SW Transformers when there's other stuff that's worth wasting time/money on. :)

373
And I didn't mean to imply that anyone implied any... implications. :)  We would want to sell a different product (like a green Starfighter) as a different item, so  if/when a green one comes to light and we can sell it, you can rest assured it'll have a green image.  (Or no image.  One of those.)

It's really important in the toy business to make toys look new.  Key words: "look new."   Placing a figure or ship in a new box makes it look fresh at retail and is one of the reasons they keep changing up the packaging on a toy line every few months.  In Transformers, they usually switch up the look of the box with a totally new color scheme about  halfway through each major line, but not always.  By making the toy look different at retail in a new box, they can extend the lifespan of a toy by months or years-- like Anakin's starfighter, which came out, when, like in March 2005?  It's having a really good run and collectors aside, it's still a spectacular seller.   (We're currently out of stock on it again, and it really is nice to see people still wanting it.  It's a great little toy.)   The packaging changes aren't typically made with collectors in mind, it's to get the attention of kids who missed it before-- usually.   You'd be astonished how much time and effort goes in to making new, attractive-at-retail packaging for even older products just to dress 'em up to the same people.

The thinking being that a kid/parent would see a ship in ROTS packaging and go "oh, that's the really old one."  Obviously, collectors are a bit more savvy when it comes to this stuff, but hey, packaging is one of the most important ways to market a product at retail since it basically has to sell someone on an item in a snap.

I'd be a little surprised to NOT see a new box for Anakin's Starfighter next year if it ships past that first assortment, but hey, you never know with these things.   Maybe they'll just do another sticker-- the "Sneak Preview" packaging is pretty much identical to the regular one except the "Firing Blaster Cannons!" burst was covered by the "Sneak Preview" label.  Vehicles are expensive, if they can keep selling the same thing just by changing graphics in a box, it's really in their best interests.

While not confirmed yet, it's a pretty safe bet they're going to rotate in older ships again in 2007-- there are new case remixes up on Entertainment Earth that are 3 ships per and they tend to mix up new and old.   Also fun trivia: the vehicle assortment number has been the same since the ROTS ship line started.

As to your questions...

1. We post everything we can post and share everything we can share.  Which, right now, is the Saesee Tiin Starfighter and the TIE Fighter.   Like the figures, there's probably going to be a lot of items spread across the whole year, and Hasbro doesn't like to show their whole hand at once.

2. Nope.  Same assortment, but different item numbers.

Right now, it seems there's really nothing to indicate a green starfighter redeco outside what appears in Hasbro's Q&A and speculation-- for all we know, they might crank out an exclusive, and not a new "regular assortment" item.   There are going to be lots of assortments with new product next year, and Hasbro really likes to spread out all the announcements-- so if there's going to be one, we might not hear about it officially for a few more months still.   (Or next week.  You never know with Hasbro.)

2007 seems to be geared very heavily toward fans-- the "Legends" collection seems almost squarely aimed at people who complain they can't get enough Clones, the regular figures seem loaded with really awesome, requested figures (new DS Trooper, Galactic Marine, Airborne Trooper, etc.)

The only real problem of boredom seems to come up when Hasbro totally ignores a popular "subset" of the line, which they've been very good at since 2005.   For example, Cantina aliens-- fans of the Cantina have been gifted with Hem Dazon, and that's the only 100% new Cantina alien since the Myo/Gotal/Smoker wave.  And Jabba's Palace?  Man.   We haven't had a brand new alien from there since, I believe, Tanus Spijek/Elom.

I just want to see something new, and by new, I mean a figure that I can bring home and nobody will go "don't you already have this?" and I then say "yeah, but this band member has a cloth shirt thing on over it and a tin!"

Still, McQuarrie Boba Fett... it's hard to deny that's going to be fun.   Those first two waves, plus the Delta Squad sets, plus the Death Star Briefing, plus Andy Warhol's Darth Vader in the comic packs... how can a fan not at least be a little more interested today than they were a year ago?

375
That's the one they have images for.  But seeing how the yellow version was reissued this year in TSC packaging, it's a fair bet that the version in the 30AC line is going to be the green one.

As for the image on EE's site, I'm thinking that it might just be a case of them trying to offer up an image even though it's inaccurate.  After all they did show a photoshopped version of a black Jedi Starfighter and offer that up as the Darth Vader Sith starfighter well before Hasbro offered up an image of the real thing.  This could be a similar case.

The Black Sith Starfighter was indeed photoshopped by our graphics team at Entertainment Earth because Hasbro did not yet have an image to release.  This was clearly labeled in big bold red letters so there was no confusion that it was, in fact, a fake.

As to the future of Starfighters, the Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter in future assortments has the same product number as previous releases.  We have received no indication that the item would change in any way shape or form.   As such, there is no reason to expect a change.  It's a very popular vehicle at retail (despite collectors being sick of it), and since the kid market for the schoolbus yellow starfighter is still strong, there's really no reason to stop shipping it just yet.

If there is to be a green one, I'd expect it to be either an exclusive, or sold as a separate, new product with a new number and possibly even a new/different name.

As of yet, cases shipping from Hasbro with 30AC and TSC vehicles in it have a mix of packaging-- so there haven't been any updates yet of older vehicles, yet.   Who knows what a future shipment might bring?
