It is all a lot speculation since Lucas didn't really seem all that concerned with continuity when he made the prequels.  While the Bo'Shek/Kenobi dialogue is all tongue-in-cheek, the Chewbacca stuff just doesn't have a basis.  Until the Clone Wars cartoon, there really wasn't any reason for Chewbacca to even know who Anakin was besides stories on the holonet.  To assume he was concerned about protecting children that he had no reason to know existed is quite a stretch.  To think Yoda is sitting on Degobah, chatting with Qui-Gon saying "This Wookiee I knew once, Chewbacca he was called.  If meet him Obi-wan should, great help he could be." is also quite a stretch.  Qui-Gon in general kind of muddies up the OT.

If that is a serious theory, then I would say it doesn't hold any water.  Yoda and Chewbacca depart ways before Yoda even finds out about the twins...how is he supposed to have told Chewie about them?

Even with the two losses, at least they are scoring points.  I can't remember the last time they actually had a legitimate chance of pulling off a last minute win or tie.  The sack killed the drive, but they really moved the ball on the last drive instead of going 3 and out as usual.  It seems to be a reverse of previous years when the defense would keep them in the game for a while, but the offense just wouldn't score.   Now it is the defense that can't get the job done.

It seems there is some sort of ref screw up in about every game.  They blew a pass interference call in the Skins game and they also didn't seem to have any idea about when to run off time on offensive penalties.  It will get real nasty if this continues on late in the season when the playoffs are on the line.

Anyone download iOS6 yet for their phone?  Buggy or OK so far?

I didn't have a chance to update my 4S yet and some of the bad reviews I've read today (maps, battery life issues, etc) have me thinking about waiting a few days before updating...

I upgraded the wife's 4s last night.  Haven't had much time to play with it since it took several hours to download and configure, but no problems so far.  I was able to take a panoramic picture of the kitchen and request a sports score from Siri.  Both worked fine.  Just need to test the turn by turn directions.

I do engineering work on a laptop.  However, it has a docking station at my office so I get a full sized monitor and keyboard.  It is much easier to use in that mode than normal laptop mode.  I can get away with it when I need to, but I still prefer the desktop setup.  If I just needed a device to surf the web that was portable, I would probably prefer a laptop over a tablet.  I haven't had the chance to use a tablet yet, but I don't think I would like the virtual keyboard for a large amount of typing.

Silly question:  why would you want to get the iPhone 5 right away?  If history has shown us anything, it's that new hardware may have issues.  So why not wait a few months until the craze dies down, and the hardware bugs are worked out?

I don't necessarily need to, but my current phone is going on 3+ years old so I had been waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out to get that one instead of getting the 4s.  I think just about everyone will be in the same boat with the operating system upgrade that comes out next week.

Hmmm.... the car charger I have is basically a USB to Cigarette lighter adapter.  It's 3rd party, and any USB cord fits into it.  Maybe just grab one of those?  I'm assuming it'll still work with the new phone, since only one end of the cords are changing.

That is what I'm trying to avoid, either having to buy a second cord identical to what comes with the phone or having to lug my cord around.  I would rather have a dedicated cord for the car because I will be dumping my ipod and just use the iPhone for my in car mp3 player.  I have to stop by the Apple store anyways when my phone shows up since the Applecare is much less than buying the protection plan through Verizon, so hopefully they will have them by then.  Verizon always runs deals on accessories, but they didn't have either a car charger or the case I wanted when I ordered the phone, so they lose out.

Does anyone find it odd that there are no car chargers available as of yet?  I can understand that Apple kept the charging port under wraps, but even the Apple store doesn't have a car charger available yet.  Everything is just a USB adapter, but like everyone else, I don't want to have to either buy a second cord or carry the cord that comes with phone everywhere.

I think it's pretty regular for accessories to lag behind by a few days or weeks with new iPhone releases.  I remember the last time around having a hard time finding screen covers and case options until a week or three later.

The car charger seems to be the only item not available at this point.  I have seen cases, screen protectors, the adapter for the old charge cord, but not any car charger.  I don't think I've seen spare cords either, but I haven't really looked too hard for them.  I doubt I can be the only one getting an iPhone for the first time, so I would think at least Apple would have the car charger out to make a few extra dollars.

You don't need to by a separate cord just get the adaptor and leave it attached to your existing charger in your car.

The problem is that this is my first iPhone, so I have your standard cell phone charger.  I have a cord for my ipod, but that would require an adapter plus the car charger with USB outlet.  I also have radio adapter for the iPod, but it doesn't charge my wife's 4s, so I don't think that is a viable option either.

I'm on the fence.  I haven't had much time for my Wii in quite a while.  Heck, I never finished Mario Galaxy 2, or even get all the stars in Mario Galaxy 1.  I'm not sure if I really have time for the system.  Is the deluxe version only going to available around the launch date or is that something that will be on the shelves for some time?  I would probably want to go for that version if I actually picked one up.

Why can't the new connector be just a standard mini usb port just like every other phone? Another Apple money grab.

I'm not surprised...they have had the proprietary connector since the beginning.  At least they are making adapters.  I remember have to buy a wall plug for ~$30 when I got my first iPod because you could only charge from a computer otherwise.

I'm a little surprised with the all the revamps to the nano that they didn't bump up the storage space.  A 32 GB nano has been rumored for quite a while, but they just have 16 GB models according to the Apple store.  I still only have an 8 GB model and didn't want to upgrade to 16 GB because I would have it filled immediately.  I think I'm going to finally jump on board with the iPhone, so I will probably just get the 64 GB model and use that as my mp3 player.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Cars: Lease or buy?
« on: September 12, 2012, 07:17 AM »
As everyone else has stated, it all depends on your needs.  I purchased my first care in 1997 and my second in early 2008.  I'm more in the camp of drive it till it dies.  My wife even used my first car for another year or so because it got better millage than what she was driving.  When I purchased my second car, the dealer was only going to give me $1,000 in trade-in (blue book value was around $2,500 for excellent condition; the car was in fair condition), so it wasn't too big a deal to skip the trade in so we could save some gas money.  We still managed to sell it for $2,000.  I plan to keep my current car for a minimum of 10 years, so leasing really was never an option for me.  Since interest rates weren't that great for auto financing, I went with a home equity loan, so technically my car was paid off at purchase.  In the long run, that will cost more in interest if you don't make extra payments, but it does allow some flexibility since the payments are low.  I have been paying extra towards the principal for most of the time so that I could pay off the loan in about five years, but when I was laid off in 2009, it was nice to be able to pay the minimum payment of about $275 versus what would have been over twice as much if I had gone with 60 month financing.
