The Vintage Collection / Re: TVC Carbon Freezing Chamber Playset
« on: November 5, 2020, 12:01 PM »
I wasn't going to get this set, I just deemed it too big and in too much need of extra stuff to complete it.

But demand was there for Cardboard Galaxy to do some of the "extra stuff" for my customers, so I bought one as a business expense and started making inserts to slip up under the main platform to bring the wall of it all the way down to the floor. People seem to like them enough, and with some lining on the back of my inserts (one guy used tinfoil to great effect) they contain the light you might put underneath to get the orange glow.

I just bought a second set (from amazon on sale currently) to finish the circle and see what I can do to work up a backdrop or mini-scenes for under the back gantry pieces.

At the end of the day I think it is a neat set, especially if you are messing around with lighting it and taking pictures with it.

Other Collectibles / Re: Galaxy of Adventures 5" Figures

By all accounts, no.

And yet my local WalMart--where Black Series and Vintage Collection pegs sit apparently empty for weeks on end--always has some GOA figures on the 2 pegs alloted for them, and they sell some and then replenish, then sell some more. It's always that final Han and Threepio case that fills the pegs back up, and when it refills I always look to see if this time Yoda and Boba Fett are there, but not yet.

So by default these are selling okay in my area. I don't know how many cases of the other two lines sell out immediately upon arrival because I don't catch them, but I have been able to watch the Galaxy of Adventures figures sell a handful a week for months on end.

And I will buy Boba Fett, Yoda, and Darth Maul if/when I see them.

I am 100% in. Love the idea, it makes sense with "The Mandalorian" being the only entertainment to push currently, and opens doors to new horizons with the Retro line. Customizers have certainly proven there is a market for these, why shouldn't Hasbro do their version?

We're getting a baby Yoda with the Razor Crest!  :D

I thought I was passing on this, but with the potential of flipping Baby Yoda to massively reduce the price, now I'm going to be on the fence for a few weeks.

I don't do the big vehicles so I am sitting this one out but it looks good so far! Great features and a good compromise on the scale and interior details.

I hadn't seen it mentioned yet, but whatever the TVC HasLab project will be (and I am leaning toward the Razor Crest after everything I've heard so far) it will be running concurrently with the campaign to fund a new version of the HeroQuest game.

Of note, on this round HasLab has created two tiers with different price points you can fund it at: a $99.99 price point (basic set) and a $149.99 (basic set plus two expansion packs.)

It started today and is currently 62% funded.

Solo: A Star Wars Story / Re: Retail Prices/Sales/Discounts
« on: September 19, 2020, 04:32 PM »
Ha!

Me too!!
I was just stopping by to report that, after playing the long long game, I was able to finally complete my 5POA Solo collection by picking up Quay and L3 today (along with a second ERG) at the local 5 Below.

They also had 2 fully packed pegs of Resistance figures, but I finished that line off ages ago. Aaaaand a shipper of wave 2 of the Galaxy of Adventures tubes.

It felt like late 2018 all over again.

A guy from a youtube video source of mine says that the project will be a playset/diorama, and it's not the Death Star.

That said, several weeks ago I happened across someone's facebook page. He designed and 3d printed a Death Star playset. It's like the Emperor's version of the Malibu Dreamhouse.

He has a couple of minor misgivings, but this thing is still impressive.

I'll try to hunt down the page. He uploaded the files for anyone ambitious enough to spend the next few months printing it out.

I believe you are referring to the work over at "Star Wars Plastic Playsets." That Death Star is truly an achievement.

When I saw that Yakface posted the links to these things this morning, I checked them out and the Target app told me these weren't in any store near me. It was about 9am, so I figured everything had been cleared out already.

As it happened, the family was shopping this afternoon and went to the local Target, so I looked anyway. The endcap in toys was wiped out except for one Captain Cardinal. As we were shopping, I found a little standalone display in the kids clothes section with more of the stuff, including a full display of the Droid Depot figures. I bought the trio of Astromechs, but left the BB units.

I liked the packaging, it was nice to open something "different." My son and I have talked about making a "Build A Droid" boardgame, but I never thought I had enough parts to do anything fun. He was excited to see us add a few more to the pile.

I would take more if they did another run.

And I was happy to see that Cardboard Galaxy already has plans in the works to enhance the inside passageway where Leia puts the datacard with the Death Star plans into R2-D2.

Yes, I am really excited by the possibilities of this set! I also envision doing a Profundity hallway (Vader vs RFTs from Rogue One) backdrop that will line up with a doorway, a bridge area, the ANH "Vader/Antilles" room, maybe a ROTS conference room? This piece is very inspiring...

The Vintage Collection / Re: Recent Vintage Collection Purchases
« on: August 26, 2020, 04:57 PM »
NOT a Vintage Collection purchase at all, but I bought the "Mission Fleet" Mandalorian set today specifically because I wanted the Pram and the Child to go along with my TVC Mando and Cara Dune, and the scale seemed doable. I might wind up using the bike for my IG-11 replacement to sit on in the display with everybody else.

I had previously purchased the Black Series the Child to fit in with the TVC figures, so while I was swapping them out I was surprised to see the BS Child is actually slightly smaller than the MF Child. So I gave the BS version the Pram instead. I wouldn't be surprised if the eventual and inevitable TVC the Child is this same scale.

(BS figures and MF figures now too? Someone at Hasbro is having fun with the series names...)

Preordered two from Amazon...

FYI it is listed as "Spiderman SW VIN Playset" there for some reason if you can't find it.

Supposedly shipping out Feb 1st.

I am so excited for this, it has been a long time coming, and they get a great-for-them 85% for execution.* I am definitely in for 2!

.
*...One side of one of the doorways should have had "blasted through" deco. And they could have at least painted the back side of the backdrop itself black to hide the inverted embossing between the archway pieces if we are meant to use the back too...
