Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS variation/error thread
« on: August 28, 2005, 01:09 PM »
Was not going to mention because I don't think it is a variation but interesting. I got 2 Clones a week ago, kept one and gave one to DeanPaul (well sold it to him). DP's had a clean front stripe, and little battle on the EP. III. Mine had distinct battledamage on the front stripe. The two clones I got yesterday had the same battle damage on the stripe. Guess I am wondering if anyone else has seen the clean version? Sorry, no digitial so I cannot take a picture.

From Galatic Hunter you can see the battle damage or scraping on the middle stripe:

Revenge of the Sith / Re: NEW TIE Fighter
« on: August 28, 2005, 12:56 PM »
A local collector friend named Broc got one on Friday at a local Target also. They were not in the back but he used the DCPI # and the employee told him you had to have it and ask someone to go get it if you want one. A couple of other collectors here have done the same.
I'm passing because of price. It would come down to either the figures I wanted in the last 12 wave, or this, or give up my Epic LOTR figures or this, and I honesty want the figures. Perhaps some day.
I still think with a limited production run this will sit on the shelf. I know I picked up a Skiff after watching it sit for awhile on a shelf with a couple of friends.

Brent, I also will keep my eyes open for you. If I get one to keep, it will only be one. That price tag of $25 to $30 his the collecting budget way hard!

I have gone back and forth over the last 2 years on this. This year my wife took me to out in April (bday month) and had me buy about $300 worth of stuff. Then I've just gone on from there.
What is different this year? I only buy 1 of most figures (did get 3 of the Shocktroopers for me) and I have passed on some figures and on all variants (unless I like them). I also have a collecting budget of $100 a month, that I can roll over, but when its done, its done, unless I talk with the boss and go over the budget and we cut something else out.  I'm at point where after the last 12, I will stop except for probably Commander Cody, and an occasional figure here and there. I've done the same with my beloved LOTR collecting. On the new Epic Waves am only getting the Aragorn, the Gondorian, the Orc and Skull, Eowyn, and I believe that is it.
I had a major realization about two weeks when I realized I was collecting for me, and not for my son. I started this out as something for us to do, and for us to have stuff to display and play with. Then because he was young, I had to seperate mine and his. Dumb. Even dumber is when I ensure I get what I want before he gets what he wants. When you place your collecting over the wants of your own child, that is wrong. Thus time for a reality check. So, now I buy for us, display in my office and I don't have to worry about losing cause we have a system that my 11 year old has down pat.
The other thing I think is that though I still buy what I want, it is not near what I have speant this year on either LOTR or SW. Moderation is the key, and not being selfish. I realized that is why I would buy extra's and help others. Because I wanted to feel like I was a good guy because in reality, I was a selfish jerk in putting my wants  above my son's. So, now he gets what he wants. I have taken him hunting, and he enjoys our time together, but now we hunt for what he and we want together.
Finally, I thought what is the purpose of collecting? To spend more time with my son because he is growing up WAY TO FAST! So I need to slow down and collecting in general takes a back door to ensuring that my son and daugther have ample time with me for a variety of activities, not just collecting, but things that interest them. Guess its that 40 years that make you reflective on what truly matters. I can see the day when I stop and walk away and say, that was fun and be done.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?
« on: August 28, 2005, 12:51 AM »
Reading Slave Counterpoint, about slavery prior to the civil war; A Glorious Cause by Middelkauph on the American Revolution, Lieut. Hornblower, Hatchett (my students are reading it so I have to stay ahead; its one I re-read every year); and then studying for my Praxius tests to move my teaching license to a level II license.

$2.45 here in Utah. I wonder when gas will be the same price as an OTC figure at $4.77?

At $25.00 I will have to really think about this when/if I find them. I was hoping for around $20.  I may buy it and then if I can find the Tact Ops Clones, take it back or put it up for sale at cost locally.

Hopefully they show up next week in good quantity. I would have prefered another clone before the clone pilot, but with the clone pilot I would have prefered the black one vs the grey one, and no Anakin, or the right Anakin figures. Anyway, I'll get 1 for the sake of having em, then get 1 or 2 of the AT TE 501st figure, or just enough to form 1 squad behind my Evolutions Anakin.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: August 27, 2005, 06:19 PM »
Last night I hit 4 Walmarts and found only lightsabers, well at one store, I found Black Clone Pilots, and Shock Troopers (yet again) A friend with me took the Shock Troopers. I picked up a Black Clone Pilot for my son and gave my son the Black Clone Pilot and a Shock Trooper today. Today I picked up a Sith Evolutions a friend had hid.  Now to find the Jedi Temple Assult Pack and then hopefully have a month break from Star Wars before the last 12 hit.

Also at a local TRU today was the Hoth Attack set that has a tripod blaster cannon, a snow trooper gunner, two armed snow troopers and a figure that looked like General Veers. Thought it was ok but nothing wonderful.

I don't think we'll see the white version until the clones are shipping 4 to a case, instead of being split with 2 Anakin or 2 Sith. When the clones ship 4 at a time I have heard that the Anakin and Sith will ship at 2 per case also.

Still on the hunt for a sith.

I don't have pictures but on the 2 clones I got, 1 I gave to DeanPaul and it was pretty normal, the one I kept I noticed tonight that my Ep. III clone has battle damage or paint weat all up and down his front strip. I like it!

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Your First custom...
« on: August 25, 2005, 10:43 PM »
I've made what  I consider modifications but am now working on my 1st two customs thanks to Chewie. They are a Mace using an Agen K. body and I am taking a crack at making some 501st out of the SA Clone (especially now that the AT TE body is being used!).
I have the heads off  the Kolan and Mace, but weekdays are not good for me. I think and would like advice, that I will do with customizing what I do with plastic model building (WW II aircraft and tanks etc) and just set aside like 4 hours on two Saturday's a month to work on stuff (that won't last knowing me).

I believe I am going this route because I need to do something creative to keep my interest in collecting 3 3/4 toys. It makes me feel like I'm doing something with the figures and expressing my 40 year old creativity. I really believe it will keep me going with buying not everything, but what I want. I'll be asking for advice and as soon as I get my digital camera in October I'll post pictures.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS - #57 and beyond
« on: August 25, 2005, 01:32 AM »
For me the disapointment is huge. I like the AT TE gunner, but I LOVE the SA Clone. I really wanted the 501st in the SA Clone and still hope we see it that way. IF it is the AT TE clone, I will still get 3 to put behind my Evolutions Anakin, but I'll leave it at that.
Now, here is an idea. Suppose it is a mixed assortment that some variants are the SA Clone and some 501st come in the AT TE Clone body? Then the hunt gets interesting.

I'm convinced well see this sometime in September.  I'm glad to see the 3 Tactical Troopers, but disappointed in wave 1 with only 1 Commander Bly and Gree. That makes the hunt harder.
Anyway, keep watching for em to hit Asia soon I say!

Toy Reviews / Re: RAT Ends: General Madine

Jesse, I would love to see the Rebel Troopers with the articulation of the Obi Wan Pilot.
Just this last week I found a "returned" Madine and picked him up for $2 at Walmart. I also love this figure and was glad to get a second one, especially at that price!

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Hoth Wave
« on: August 22, 2005, 02:09 AM »
General Veers helmet off,

I agree with a SA Luke;

What I really fear is that this will be just a reupdate of the Saga stuff. We'll see the SnowTrooper, the Luke, General Reiken as a single figure this time, the Red Droid (I'm tired and cannot think of his name) tha peg warmed forever. I would also like to see a new T1B the Medical Droid. Boy I quit, I'm too tired to post right now.
