Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO)
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:11 AM »
As we get ready to roll into Season 3, which will cover about half of the events of A Storm Of Swords, we get a glimpse into the possibility of what may happen with Game of Thrones if the series catches up to or passes the books

It's definitely something that I think a lot of fans of both the books and the television series might be sensitive to.  The series is coming up on the events of Book 3, and George R.R. Martin only published book 5 in the Spring of 2011.  Given the span of time between the release of the previous books, it seems entirely plausible that the HBO series could actually catch up to Martin's A Song of Ice & Fire novels before he's able to publish The Winds of Winter (book 6) and the seventh volume in the series.

about a month ago I did read someone on another board say that they did find Heimdall.

My store got a case of the first deluxe wave.

wouldn't it be crazy if that claw frost giant showed up somewhere?  that is the only figure from the line that never turned up

Good luck on that!  The only place I ever saw that was in the Hasbro display case at NY Comic Con.  I had no idea that figure was even in the works until I saw it there.

The bargain hunter in me is bummed that I wasn't able to get Heimdall for $9.99 or however much Thor deluxe figures go for.  But in the grand scheme of things it was worth it to wait a little while for the secondary market prices to subside, and pay about $25 for Heimdall.  All while NOT having to search far and wide for it at retail, and probably saving a comparable ammount of gas money in the process.

Any chance that we might be able to revise our TPM lists if R5-X2 winds up getting confirmed in some sort of multipack/exclusive, Scott?

Looks like some old Thor stock has been making it's way onto TRU pegs.  I've noticed the Deluxe Lightning Clash Thor turning up recently.  But not the rather HTF deluxe Heimdall.  And frankly, it's bizarre.  This line originally hit stores back in 2011, right?

Filoni looked like he was about to cry imo

It's totally understandable.  He's devoted much of the last decade of his life to the Clone Wars series, and knowing that it's coming to a close has to be pretty bittersweet.  But he should also be proud of a good deal of that work, because the show has been pretty groundbreaking.

Nothing related to season 3, but certainly a bit of fun for fans of both Game of Thrones AND Star Wars...

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII
« on: March 9, 2013, 01:20 PM »
I'm not sure it's a case of people thinking that Hammill, Fisher & Ford are all too old for their parts.  We've seen plenty of action / fantasy / sci-fi films over the past decade where some older characters are involved in some intense sequences.  Perhaps modern filmmaking and special effects have made it that much easier to pull that off with an older actor?

I actually think there's a greater potential concern regarding Hammill & Fisher being central parts of the cast when they haven't done a tremendous ammount of feature film work over the past decade plus.  Sure, both have done some television and voice acting.  But I get the sense that both of them may be a little rusty in the on screen acting chops.  I think that concerns about the two of them in that capacity might be a little more well founded.  On that front I suspect that the big three might not be the focus of the sequel trilogy, and a new generation of Skywalkers & Solos may do the heavy lifting in the new trilogy.

The whole article is very fascinating. So this seems to have started a couple years ago, and Lucas went fairly far down the garden path before selling to Disney. I wonder if he started this and then thought - wow. I don't want to do this, or he did do it to make the company more attractive to Disney. I'm more curious than ever of the story.

I took EXACTLY that from the article.  There's a quote where he said he was having a conversation with Kathleen Kennedy about making the company more attractive to a potential buyer.

Quote
Lucas asked if she was interested in taking over Lucasfilm. Kennedy may have been blindsided by the news, but she happily accepted the position. “When Kathy came on, we started talking about starting up the whole franchise again,” he says. “I was pulling away, and I said, ‘Well, I’ve got to build this company up so it functions without me, and we need to do something to make it attractive.’ So I said, ‘Well, let’s just do these movies.’ ”

The Bullpen / Re: Iron Man 3 Toys

Man, after seeing that most recent IM3 trailer, I really wish we were getting a more proper line of figures for this year.  So many armor possiblities, they wouldn't even have to make things up like they have with past lines.  On a side note, I still haven't seen the Assemblers at retail around here.  All the stores have reset with IM3 stuff, but those just haven't been stocked yet for some reason.  I sort of doubt I'd buy any (maybe just the primary Mark 42 armor or something), but I haven't seen them.  I am glad that they've brought out a Legends line specifically for Iron Man (and later, Wolverine) and sort of hope we continue to see that with other movie lines (especially with a mix of comic/movie characters).

Just looking at some of the various armors in the final sequence of this new trailer, I get the sense that some of the concept armor designs that yielded figures for the Iron Man 2 line might be represented.

Well, there's also the promotional budget to consider for Battleship as well.  A general rule of thumb in the movie business is that the promotional budget for a movie is another 50 % on top of that production budget.  A budget of $209 million is going to garner a marketing budget of at least $100 million.  With that in mind, it looks like the movie barely even broke even by your estimations.  And it still leaves me wondering why Hasbro thinks they belong in the movie business.

My friend brought up an interesting point...he swears Barriss is shown on the beach at Kashyyyk in ROTS alongside Luminara. I haven't had a chance to go back and check in HD slo-mo, but I tend to believe him.

If so, yeah, kind of a glaring continuity error there...

+1 to Scott's post.

Additionally, in the ROTS comic book adaptation, Barriss Offee had been shown getting killed on Felucia as part of Order 66.  But then SO MANY of the plot points that have been established in Dark Horse comics have been totally trounced by storylines in The Clone Wars animated series.

Which makes me wonder, just WHAT does Leland Chee do here?

The Original Trilogy / Re: "Lost" ESB Documentary

Some quick thoughts?

-The Hoth Rebel tank is pretty awesome, and total mini-rig fodder!

-Colors of costumes as they're seen in documentaries and costume reference photos won't necessarily come across in the completed film.  Set lighting and color timing (back in the analog days), now known as digital grading, will distort colors in the final cut of a movie.  So what may match costume reference photos may not look very similar to the look of a movie.

-The lightsaber duel practice sessions were pretty awesome.  Although I couldn't say for certain if Mark Hammill was sparring with David Prowse or swordmaster Bob Anderson.  And funny enough, Hammill was using an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber hilt!

They have the 2012 MH case expected on 3/15 Pete.

I know -  but my order for it already shipped back on Feb  11th - and I still don't have it.

If it does indeed seem to be lost, here's hoping that Toy Palace will be decent about it and ship me a replacement case when their new shipment of them arrives.

It's most likely a Customs delay.  That's the hitch with international orders.  Your parcel might just be waiting to go through the Customs clearing process, and then you should eventually get it.

I'm not terribly surprised.  Halle Berry's star has fallen somewhat.  She's done some great work over the years, but it seems like she's not so much the darling of casting directors that she was 10 years ago.  And perhaps she's not getting the offers that she used to get?  I think that made casting her in this new X-Men project that much easier.

Finally got a chance to see the episode this afternoon.  From a story standpoint, Filoni & company totally telegraphed Barriss's connection with Ahsoka's case.  Especially when the two of them had their exchange in the Temple in the first episode of this arc, and again when Ahsoka reached out specifically to Barriss when she was in the Coruscant underworld.

The end of the previous story arc, where Sidious said that he had a use for Darth Maul rather than killing him, might have led you to believe that Sidious might employ Maul to implicate Ahsoka in this plot.  But alas, this story arc did more to show the increasing divisions between the Republic and the Jedi.  And it also served to highlight the decreasing ability of the Jedi to use The Force.  Mace talks about it in AOTC, but here we actually see it happening.

I still suspect that we have not seen the last of Ahsoka.  Especially since she provides an added dimension to Anakin Skywalker's character.
