Middle Earth / Re: The Hobbit - Toy Line
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:26 AM »
I'm hoping that they'll consider the history of the Toy Biz LOTR line and work in that scale.  The Hobbits are already so small that a 3.75" scale would make them REALLY small.  And seeing how a good number of the other major characters in The Hobbit are Dwarves, they won't be much bigger.  Working in that 6" figure scale (or was it 8"?) would at least give this new line some continuity.  And I think Bridge Direct will absolutely want some of that customer base that went in on the Toy Biz LOTR line.

I think a trilogy is a pretty good run for a Director / Lead Actor team.  Would I love to see Christopher Nolan team up with Christian Bale down the road for another Batman film?  Sure.  But after seeing movies like Inception you have to recognize that Nolan has SO MUCH to offer the film world.  And I don't think he wants to get pigeon-holed by a franchise like Batman.  I'm sure that Warners will dangle a boatload of cash in front of both Nolan and Bale.  But I think they're both well off enough that they could do projects that are their passions and steer clear of genre films.  But then maybe they would be interested in revisiting things 5 years down the road...

I agree.  That 2-pack with the Leader was one of the best Hulk figures ever.  And now with Hasbro bringing back Marvel Legends maybe we'll see some more decent Hulk based characters for that line.  I'm still of the opinion that Marvel Legends never did the Grey Hulk justice.  At least not the way we saw the Grey Hulk when he was re-introduced....

Middle Earth / The Hobbit - Toy Line
« on: December 17, 2011, 07:12 PM »
News is out about a couple of toy licensees for The Hobbit.  LEGO has signed on, and should do a pretty nice job with this.  A LEGO Smaug would be pretty awesome!

And then there's the figure line.  Check out this news from ToyNewsI.  A company called Bridge Direct has got the action figure license for The Hobbit.  Their credentials are less than impressive.

Cool news!  Although I'm wondering just how extensive they'll allow the character selection to be.  The prologue to the first book which features that shadowy White Walker was deliberately mysterious.  A figure might give too much away in that case.

I can't believe I'm a good 600 pages into A Dance With Dragons.  The book is very aptly titled, at least in a figurative sense.  The various storylines weaving their way around and towards Dany are all pretty good, although some of the names of the Meereenese have made it a little difficult to keep track of who's who in her court.  Perhaps that was intentional on George R.R. Martin's part?

I'm also more than a little taken aback by the revelation of the son of Rhaegar.  I know that there's a good deal of speculation about another possible son of Rhaegar, but all through the series it seemed to be a certainty that when the Lannisters sacked Kings Landing at the end of Robert's rebellion that all of the Targaryens were killed.  Most notably BOTH of the children of Rhaegar and his Dornish princess.  The funny thing is that in the hiding of Prince Aegon we see history repeating itself in the way Jon Snow sent off the son of Mance Rayder.

Found a fair ammount of REVENGE variant figures today.  Scored Slave Leia, ROTJ Boba Fett, Endor Rebel variants as well as another Rebel Fleet Trooper to add to the ranks.

Looks like that's the case.  CW just started here on the east coast, and it's the "Darkness on Umbara" episode again.  I think it could very well be 5 weeks before we get back to new episodes, since there were 3 Umbara episodes, followed by the 2 episode Zygerrian slaver arc.

Looks like a good cast so far.  It seems like it may be sitting a tiny bit high on the neck post.  Now is this a full head sculpt, or a helmet?

It's a full head sculpt.  You can vary how high or low you want it to sit on the neck post.  Also it can be dremmeled out to be a removable helmet.

Okay.  You're probably going to have better results with the full head.  The removable helmets (that Hasbro has done) are so much more prone to deformation, and it's simply because the tolerances are so tight at that scale.

If you want some good movie reference pics, check out this page.  You can see some really good screen caps of Stormtroopers close up.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Q&A Sessions

When I look at the diminished number of Clone Wars animated figures that are scheduled for next year, it would leave ANYBODY wondering where this line is going.  But then I think back to this figure that was shown at NYCC:

Could this new movie-realistic CW Anakin Skywalker be the new direction of Clone Wars figures?  And could we see some kind of a consolidation of the Star Wars basic figure lines?  Given the way things appear to be selling, I think that may be a distinct possibility.

One thing you might want to be prepared for if you cast is that it may shrink.  This is something that even Hasbro can't avoid with production at the mass scale.  So give it a decent ammount of time to cool.  Otherwise you might run into potential deformities.
