The Legacy Collection / Re: The Return of Saga Legends
« on: December 5, 2008, 09:41 AM »
I think for Hasbro the reason they keep this third line out there is they make a lot of money with it.  Time and again in Q&As they've mentioned the huge costs they have to create a new figure.  SL just lets them keep pumping out that same C-3PO without changing anything.  Meaning the development cost is spread over a much larger cost pool.  Same thing with that electronic R2, was ROTS the first time that came out, or do I remember a release prior to that?

I'd be happy with Hasbro rolling this into their regular releases.  Seems like the original idea that I was kind of sold on was to keep the main characters in circulation, but since then has gotten side tracked to keeping highly profitable figures in circulation...  But Hasbro is a business....

JDers are tripping over themselves to put that one in the Out of Context thread.

You know what cars are most notorious for their only problem being the body, Honda Civics and Accords.  Every car from about 1995-2000 you see on the road (with like 250k miles on them) has that little spot of rust behind the rear wheels.  I think Honda realized that if the engine and transmission go forever people won't buy another.  So they have the body rust out instead...

The paper today had a flier that has Indy figures on sale at KB Toys for I think $5.

....I've thought about picking it up since it seems to be hanging around a bit.

Funny, the first time I saw this wave at all was over this past weekend.

Very cool figure though.  I'm being pretty selective with the Clone Wars figures I do get, so I don't think I'm picking her up.

Probably just me, but the TAC Galactic Marine was pretty sweet.  I'd like to see that again.  That might be a bit too specific for most people's tastes though, I think they'd prefer best versions of main characters or plain army builders.

I could see Hasbro adding more variety into their Saga legends.  How about R2, R3, R4, R5 units in various paint schemes.  Kind of like they've done with the AOTC clone officers...  Or the often requested Rebel Pilots in a couple of different headsculpts...

But at this stage in my life, I'm more concerned with quality and longevity.

That's what she said............. ;)

These days, people are giving up size for performance and efficiency.

They still don't want to sacrifice quality.

the move to a mini-van would be a lateral move on the cool-tinuum of cars.

Sienna = Odyssey

Sienna > Focus

Yeah, probably... :(

With a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old, I've given up on looking cool.  My Wife and I actually want to get a mini-van (Odyssey or Sienna), but its not in the budget right now.  Plus we only need one car right now, since I'm the only one working, so we'll deal with the Focus.  Though that falls in the "not" category too, so in all likelihood the move to a mini-van would be a lateral move on the cool-tinuum of cars.  And the boys are too young for me to look good buying Star Wars toys.  If they were a bit older maybe...

Not to mention you look like a total douche driving one. :P  Then again so do guys in VW Bugs.

So do men in their late 20's ( :-[), 30's, 40's buying Star Wars toys at Target, but that hasn't stopped anyone here...

My point is that at some point you have to realize there are more important things than looking cool.

I think its only today and tomorrow, but the local paper had an add for sales at TRU and it mentioned one Star Wars toy.  It said that "Classic" Star Wars Battlepacks are on sale for IIRC $15.99.  It said something along the lines of it include Luke, Wampa, TaunTaun, etc. Which sounds like a particular Hoth pack, but the picture was of a Clone Wars pack with Anakin and some STAPS, sorry I'm not up to speed on all the battlepacks.  So, its either only a couple packs on sale and they used the wrong picture, or Battlepacks are on sale at TRU today and tomorrow.  Can anyone confirm this?

Not so much a vehicle, and I know Hasbro has said they aren't going to do playsets, per se.  But how about some kind of battlement set?  You know something with a generic wall and maybe a turret or something.  Maybe even have connectors at the end to snap two (or more) pieces together like the Cantina bar sections.  I'm sure lots of little kids would like to do something like that scene from Starship Troopers where they fight from that field assembled base...

It could be pretty simple and Hasbro could incorporate it within a Ultimate Battlepack or something.  Basically have a base, a wall, a turret and maybe a gate.  Then they can either fill out the pack with OT, PT or EU figures.  Heck, they could even paint it different schemes (Snowy, sandy, dirty, etc.).  Then to spread the cost they could repack it in their other lines, (GI Joe, etc.).

My thinking is that most of the buyers of the BMF and AT-TE probably don't do a ton of flying/walking them around.  They don't utilize their vehicle function so muc as they primarily use them as a basis to play with the figures.  And since there aren't a huge number of ships that are iconic/saga spanning like the BMF or as heavily used in the PT/Clone Wars as the AT-TE, I think Hasbro should look at something somewhat generic that they can apply treatment to, in order to sell multiple times (think repainted ROTS clones...).

So does anyone think a set where you can have a line of Troopers (and maybe a PT version of an E-Web) firing down on SBDs and Tri-Droids, or some Rebels bravely holding off an onslaught of 50 Stormies) seem like a good idea?

LEGO / Re: Lego 2008

I got the Republic Fighter Tank on friday.  Not surprisingly there were no Star Destroyers left.  I think I would have considered getting it instead, even though I really wanted to the Fighter Tank, the SD would have been too much to pass up.

Would have snagged FX-6 to be done with the wave but the guy stocking the toys ran me off. Yeah, excuse me for buying toys you aren't putting on the shelf. ::)

I've noticed that at the 24 hr Walmart I frequent, the only time there are any employees in the toy section is early in the morning when they are stocking the shelves, coincidently this is also the only time that employees offer to help me find something, when there happen to be cases of toys sitting on pallets (I'm reading the names on the boxes to see if there is anything I might want to buy).  I'd expect they have people working during the day to straighten the shelves, etc. but those people never ask if I need help, odd.

I got in the mail the last of the Droid Factory sets (Darth Vader) and I found TFU set with Palpatine and the Grey Stormies.
