-The online exclusive comic 2-pack - DONE

Hasbro definitely let people know that this wave was going to be scarce.  And that was pretty much the case in the stores this morning.  I saw a good number of collectors in TRU stores this morning, because they were looking for the same thing I was.  I managed to score the whole EU wave, but it took visits to 4 different TRU to get everything in the wave.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Clone Wars Figure Rumors/Speculation
« on: April 29, 2010, 05:51 PM »
Yularen is a military character who's been involved in *some* action.  Satine?  She's nice to look at, but I can't see the appeal of that figure to kids.

As for the market research?  I think it's highly likely that Hasbro has kids watching episodes of Clone Wars and answering questions.  Questions about which character they would want as an action figure.  On the corporate level Hasbro does a great deal of research, both for safety purposes but also regarding a product's marketability.  Of course Hasbro won't share the info that would come from a focus group like this, but this is almost certainly the method by which Hasbro has come to their focus on Jedi, Clones, Droids and other action oriented characters for the Clone Wars animated line.

The Utapau Clone hit around the time that the "Skittle Clones" term became a common part of the collecting vernacular.  And toward the end of the run of 2006's The Saga Collection it was pretty easy to score an Utapau Clone.  I certainly won't be army building with this one myself unless it's made on the Episode III Evolutions Clone body or better.

Ackbar has never been confirmed or heavily hinted at has he?

SNOWTROOPERS got the response that Jeff quoted back in April of 2009.

And in this Nov '09 Bantha Skull session Hasbro stated that 5 out of these 8 characters were set to have figures made over the next 2 years.  On that list?  Admiral Ackbar:

-Admiral Ackbar resculpt
-Barriss Offee resculpt
-Admiral Piett resculpt
-Nein Nunb resculpt
-Weequay skiff guard resculpt
-Wooof
-Visas Marr
-Komari Vosa

The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Q&A Sessions
« on: April 28, 2010, 06:06 PM »
Seems like a number of sites didn't post their Q&A's, or there just wasn't much to talk about maybe...  I've not seen much rumbling except the coolness of things like the Magna Guard, the Slave-1 talk and Geonosis 2-packs still getting another go...

A number of sites asked for a sneak peek at the AT-AT in the TRU exclusive vintage packaging.  And all of them got shot down because it's going to be part of a Star Wars Insider article in June or July.

However, I have seen some griping on some sites that have been playing a little fast & loose with the Q&A submission deadlines.  As a result a number of them don't have anything for this session.

The most recent sessions are starting to be posted.  Possible new Clone Wars Slave I?  It could be.

Right now I'm reading Michael Crichton's Eaters Of The Dead.  It's the movie that the film The 13th Warrior was based upon.  Conceptually the way it's written is interesting, but I'm only a few chapters into it at this point.

IIRC isn't Eaters of the Dead based on the Beowulf epic poem?  Obviously Crichton is a lot easier to read than middle english...
Yes...loosely

I tore through everything Crichton in 1991 after I read and fell in love with Jurrasic Park...this was my least favorite of all of his books

Very loosely.

I find it a little bit interesting that he tried to establish some backstory in terms of how this whole story was reported.  Notably with scholars having studied the scattered writings of Ahmed ibn Fahdlan, plus the footnotes along the way.  It makes the book read more like history, which seems to be Crichton's point with this book.

But the core idea is actually pretty interesting.  Crichton puts forth the notion that the Wendloe are the last remaining Neanderthal tribe in Europe, and they're in conflict with the Norsemen.  You have to figure that this kind of conflict did actually occur between Neanderthals and Cro Magnon.  But to have that happen as late as the 10th century?  The possibility is certainly there.  Especially since so little of Norse history was recorded in written form.  Rather, most of what we do know of the Vikings was relayed through the oral tradition of the sagas and epic poems.  Like Beowulf.

You had to figure that some of these would leak out in advance of May 1st.  I've been checking over half a dozen TRU stores and so far no luck.  But then I'm pretty close to TRU's corporate headquarters, and the local stores are probably pretty concious of having someone from corporate just "stop by" only to see that they're not honoring the merchandising street dates.

7122
It looks like TRU is attempting to capitalize on the exclusive status of the EU wave.  I've seen prices on TLC basic figures jump up at TRU to $7.49 each.

7123
I could see TRU also making a push to get the last wave of comic 2-packs on that endcap, too.    Those have shown up a little bit at a time at TRU, but they would definitely fit in with this whole collector endcap theme.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: April 15, 2010, 02:31 AM »
I managed to score my last two comic 2-packs this morning at a local Target.  They had 2 of each on the pegs, so the pickings were pretty good.  It was good to see these show up, especially with them being the last mainline offerings of this line.

7125
That has to be the first instance of Hasbro packing different parts for a single droid with one repack figure.  I've been tracking the repack parts pretty closely myself, but I can't recall having seen a Plo Koon with the HK-50 head.  I'm going to have to take a look now.
