It looks like the first teaser (which appears after the credits of Cap) has leaked online.  It is very poor quality, but if you'd like to see it, it is probably wise to do it quickly:

Avengers Teaser

A lot of the "quick flashes" type of stuff going on, and I look forward to seeing it in better quality (or on the big screen), but man it is exciting that this big team up movie is happening.

Already pulled from YouTube.

I was SERIOUSLY tempted to pick up the new book today.  Instead, I opted to pick up a paperback multi-pack of the first 4 novels.  I'm about 400 pages through A CLASH OF KINGS, and I'm going to start A STORM OF SWORDS as soon as I'm done with the second book.  Plus, I'm probably going to go back and read the first book since I only have the HBO series as a reference.

It is pretty silly after all this time.  The prop coat was on display at Celebration 4 in LA, and it was pretty clear that it was brown.  But people hang onto the nostalgia of the Kenner vintage figure with the blue coat and they superimpose that onto their memories of the movie.

Shadows of the Dark Side / Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:43 PM »
Hasbro's lineup for this box set (and to a lesser extent the RC set) makes it much more transparent that they're trying to keep costs down by repainting existing sculpts.  To that I give a loud and clear "BOOOOOOO!"  Especially since they're re-offering the EVO and Jump troopers AGAIN.  Why not reissue the Shadow Guard if you're going in that direction?  That figure was easily one of the more scarce offerings of the past 5 years.

They are, however, clearly trying to appeal to the video game generation of Star Wars fans.  I think that's an important direction for Hasbro to turn to in an effort to stay relavent.  But the fact that Hasbro has effectively done NOTHING for TFU II shows that they haven't been able to work effectively with LucasArts to market a line of video game based figures.  Is it Hasbro's reaction to getting burned by LucasArts because of the inordinate delays on the original Force Unleashed game, and the resulting delays for the figures they developed for that game?  Possibly.  Video games have been notorious for release delays.  But you would think that with a multi-million dollar licensing deal such as Hasbro has with Lucasfilm that SOMEHOW they would be able to work out the kinks on a release schedule for video game figures.

Saw this earlier today at the otheR site.  It looks like the following lineup:

-Starkiller (cloaked)
-Darth Phobos
-EVO Trooper
-Jump Trooper
-Trooper TBD

I hope this time around Starkiller will actually look like Sam Witwer.

Great news!  Peter Dinklage has been amazing in his role as Tyrion.  He certainly has one of the most interesting character arcs of the series.  Lena Headey has also been pretty remarkable as Cersei.  I had to do a double-take when I first found that she was the same actress who played the Queen in 300.

I've been re-watching the series these past few days on HBO On Demand, and it's remarkable just how much detail has been worked into the entire series.  Perhaps it seems like it's getting a little more depth since I've started reading the novels and I notice that much more.

Looking forward to season 2, I have to wonder how the showrunners will handle some things.  Will we get a name actor as Stannis Baratheon, for starters?

And in related news, Brienne has been cast.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Could Droid Factory Survive....
« on: July 14, 2011, 03:58 PM »
In the Star Wars universe I think this idea was best suited to the droids.  There was the whole Droid Factory concept from the vintage days that Hasbro was able to resurrect but in the Build-A-Figure format that had become popular with other licenses.

Marvel Legends made the Build-A-Figure concept really popular, but in their case I think it worked because of HOW they did it.  Marvel Legends focused on a couple of different avenues:  characters that were far too big to fit on an individual card; or characters who might not sell well on their own, but the chase of putting together a Build-A-Figure enhanced the appeal of those characters.

So what types of characters in the SW universe would this concept work with?  Again, droids worked well.  Parts were interchangeable, and there's some history to the droid factory concept.  But what other kinds of characters would work?

Troopers - I think the heyday of most Republic & Imperial troopers has passed.  Between the current Saga Legends and Vintage Collections I think the collector market has become inundated with these guys.  The only way I think I might find this concept appealing is if there was removable / interchangeable armor for these characters.

Large Characters - This was a focus of other build-a-figure programs, but what to address?  Most large characters have been addressed in some form:  Ephant Mon, Hermi Odle, Jabba the Hutt, Wampa, etc.  And other creatures might be just too big to take on in this format.

So what do I think COULD be an appealing avenue?  EU characters.  Some of them have been tough sells to the broader audience that buys Star Wars figures.  But if you add the chase factor of trying to track down parts for a build-a-figure, you may start to drive the market to try to buy figures in order to complete that build-a-figure.

Yeah, Times Square TRU really hurts.

$11.49 a figure is really tough to stomach.  But it was the first place that I ever saw Barriss Offee and Bom Vimdim.

On a lighter note, I finally scored my final holdout from TVC wave 7, but at Target thankfully!  Logray is in the house, makin' medicine and all that.

Hasbro seemed to indicate around the time that the new AT-ST was released that they might have an "AT-ST Hijackers" battle pack in the works with Widdle, Oochee and Chewbacca.  Seeing how the battle packs have now been streamlined down to THREE figures, maybe this is something that will get revealed at SDCC.

RE:  The Emporer - I just don't get a sense that we've gotten a definitive ROTJ Emporer.  In this age of the definitive version of core characters I get the sense that we've got PT era Palpatine covered, but not ROTJ.  There have been some attempts at the Emporer (Order 66 comes to mind), but they've really just been kitbashes of PT Palpatine.

The Jabba's Palace Ishi Tib has been on my own list for a few years now.  I think Jabba's palace is getting to the point where the character choices are getting slimmer, and characters like Shasa Tiel are getting their turn.

Cane Addis seems like that last, large alien along the lines of Amanaman, etc.  Cane barely gets any camera time, but is cool enough that I'd like to see him get made.

My own point of disappointment?  No love for the giant mouse droid from the Death Star.  Oh well.

Where is the Boba Fett on Speeder Bike and Obi-Wan and Attack Shuttle, though? I thought they were in Wave 1 of this assortment - or did things change after Toy Fair?

I'm guessing they changed the assortments.  It still doesn't account for how some of these are $18.99 and others are $19.99 at TRU.

Yeah, I missed out on the mini Y-Wing, too.  I'm sure it'll show some time soon.

The Class I vehicles with figures are pretty cool.  They definitely took the mini-rig concept and did something more interesting with it than Kenner did in their day.

On a seperate note, has anyone found the season 3 Ahsoka figure nearly impossible to find?!?!

Finally saw the Red Skull today at a couple of stores.  He looks okay.  Not sure that I'll be picking up anything from this line yet, but there is a temptation to pick up SOME movie figures just to put an Avengers team together since I already took the plunge on the Iron Man line.
