I was VERY surprised to see a case of this wave show up at one of my local stores recently.  And because of that I finally was able to score Jango Fett.  Convenient for me, yes.  But it only serves to highlight just how screwed up distribution really is when a case of Wave 4 turns up like this when Wave 7 is finally starting to show up in stores.

How ironic, they got rid of the one actor anyone had ever heard of on that series.

Not so!  Julian Glover plays Grand Maester Pycelle.  You might recall him as this guy:

Ryan Reynolds as the star just doesn't work for me.  When I saw him attached to the project, my reaction was "Really?  That's too bad".    Aside from him the cast looks pretty strong:  Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Temeura Morrison, Jeffrey Rush (voice of Tomar Re).  He just doesn't strike me as someone who can carry a movie like this on his own, and I wonder if he was the producer and director's first choice for the role.  He's always come across as more of a smartass than anything else.  And in the comedies that he has done that can work.  On something like this?  Hmmm.

Sounds like there were/are review embargoes until today (which is never a good sign I guess)

That is usually a strategy to keep the reviews from hurting the opening.  IIRC, the movie opens on June 17th and we're 2 days away from that.  The movie probably tested poorly and that may have prompted the embargo on the reviews.

I think a big part of the problem is that the DC properties may have a hard time competing with the Marvel properties.  The DC characters have been around for a long time, but they have always lacked some of the grounding, reality and grit of some of the Marvel characters.  And I think that's one of the big reasons why movie studios have only tried to tackle Batman and Superman up to this point in time.  Jonah Hex might be a DC character, but I didn't get a sense that the film did all that well.

The TVC Hoth Leia would be a good starting point for a new Bespin Escape Leia.  As for the card art?  I'd like to see this:

I couldn't discern that from Hasbro's response either.  The way it was phrased I would think Bespin Gown, especially since that figure was part of the original vintage line.  But personally I would prefer a new Bespin Escape / Carbon Freeze Chamber Leia.  The POTJ figure is totally dated, especially with the pre-posed nature of that figure.

I think non answers are industry wide. Diamond select was the same way with Star Trek before it imploded. A lot of gray and no black and white. Margins must be real tight in the toy business. I wonder how much a company had to spend for a Dengar that might spend years on the pegs, even as core fans got there fill of that great figure right away?

True dat.  I remember the POTF2 Dengar being a pegwarmer back in the day.

Damn, no love for the Imperial Security Bureau officers?  I would think Imperials that have never been done before would stand a chance.

I think sales of the SDCC set have to factor in to some degree.  Especially since Hasbro has taken to offering the SDCC exclusives online in addition to at the event.  That's got to impact the production numbers to an extent.  But I agree that the situation at retail has been pretty rough and Hasbro is probably taking the opportunity to regroup.  It's really hit or miss as to whether or not you can find anything current in the stores.

I've seen in some interviews that Matthew Vaughn (the director) mentioned that in a possibly sequel he would keep the cast mostly the same and maybe only add one new character that could "match up" well with Magneto.  We shall see.

I would have to think he might be referring to Polaris.  She was one of the early X-Men additions from the 1960's.  Her story &  powers tie in with Magneto.  And there's her link with Havok, too.

I'm planning on seeing the movie tomorrow.  I've had mixed feelings about it, too.  Mostly because the true first class isn't getting examined.  And then to mix the Hellfire Club storyline in with this group?  I'm going to try to let the movie stand on it's own merits.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Old Republic... The Figures

Interesting that in each successive cinematic trailer Darth Malgus looks less and less battle ravaged.  And in this new trailer he appears to take out his Sith Master!  Either way, it seems like Darth Malgus would be a natural for any kind of a figure line.

Video games certainly seem like they're fertile ground for new EU characters.  Especially since the games do reach such a broad audience.  The trailers are nothing short of spectacular!  But are they sufficient enough source material to generate a figure line when the game is a massive-multiplayer online role play game.  By it's definition, the game prompts the players to create their own characters.  Will some of the trailer characters exist within the gaming universe, or will they remain in some of the associated EU comics?

Haven't been able to check out the new cinematic trailer just yet.  But there's a new gameplay trailer from E3 that came out a few days ago, and it looks remarkably better than some of the early gameplay demos.

It definitely looks like it's coming along.  And it's interesting to see some of the differences in building techniques from here on the east coast to how things are done in California in order to adhere to the stricter building codes.  The concrete work alone looks much better from what we normally get here.

One thing about the gas fireplaces:  they're really nice and they are super-convenient.  After all, who wants firewood piled up next to the house?  But the gas fireplaces can really put a serious dent into your natural gas bill if you aren't careful.

According to Adam Pawlus, this wave has been delayed until October... so it seems as if we're in for yet another without new stuff shipping out. ::)

That makes sense.  If the "Revenge Of The Jedi" wave were to make it to market before SDCC, then couldn't that potentially hurt the sales of the "Revenge Of The Jedi" SDCC box set?

I've only seen this wave in bits and pieces.  And I have NEVER seen the Jango Fett from this wave to date.
