::)

I contacted Dp, but he's heading out of town for a few days on business.  He promised to give us a proper Ep. 3 card upon his return though...

Thank God.   :P

Against my better judgement and time management skills, I give you my best attempt for the time available:

And for you avatar hounds:

I'm going to LA to staff a "New Warrior Training Adventure" this weekend. Do good things with this thread while I am gone. :)

That "Black Leather Flying Vampire Hasslehoff about to bite Safari Hasslehoff" is one of my favorites! Right up there with "Hasslehoff dancing with dachshunds while angels fly in the background" and "Look Ma, no hands Motorcycle Hasslehoff falling".

"Eskimo Surfer Hasslehoff with fish in mouth", "Tribal gotta-go-potty jumping contest Hasslehoff" and "Early 80's video effects box juggling Hasslehoff" are close seconds also not easily forgotten. [shudder]

Glad everyone liked the image. I'm simply a guy with Photoshop and too much time on his hands who is glad to indulge. Do you think I should have made his wife beater pink? Too much? I thought so as well.

What I'd really like to discuss is the movie link. Click the word "here" in the quote below. You'll need to click "play" when the page loads.

David Hasselhoff moves with the best of them, here.

There is a fascinating amount of depth to what we're being shown here. That video left me with two questions:

1. Was David Hasslehoff drunk when he made it so many years ago, or did it drive him to drink?

2. Is that the kind of crap they they like over in Germany? Is that why they liked him so much over there?

Please pass the Jerry Lewis.

Being the photoshop reject I am, anyone else already planning on super imposing Hasselhoff's head on Fright's body, and of course keeping the hair-did?

Deanpaul, where are you?

Sorry. I was asleep at the wheel.

So it comes to this? Now I’m the predictable JD photoshop bitch?

I’m ok with that. Here you go:

Also of interest:

David Hasselhoff moves with the best of them, here.

And claims to have had a part in the falling of the Berlin Wall (riiiiiiiiiight)Ronnies not even cold yet, David!

When you're able to speak to me like a normal person, let me know.

I've got a radio that's broke
Traded it for some dope
Sam and Colleen are just a joke
I've got a life that's kinda broke
I've got a dog that doesn't bark
He's dying of a broken heart
My best friend, he ain't too smart
My life's falling apart

I'm moving on,
I love her
I'm sailing on,
I'm sinking
I've got two dollars
and some guy wants me to feed him.
I'm moving on,
I love her
I'm sailing on,
I'm sinking
I've got two dollars
Where's Bob Dylan when you need him?

Spent my last dollar on a beer
I lost my job sometime last year
I lost my wife,
I called her dear
That's how I got from there to here
Guess the TV's on the blink
There's blood inside the bathroom sink
I'm halfway out the door
I should get off the bathroom floor

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Sibling Society
« on: May 20, 2004, 07:00 PM »
I'm reading The Sibling Society by Robert Bly. Some of the stuff he writes about our society and the effect of social movements like feminism really resonate with me. Especially the bits from Iron John about the 50's male archetype, a mummified non-feeling do-no-wrong father-knows-best ideal and how the world and our children suffer because of it.

I especially like the way he includes old stories and mythology as support for his thesis. He uses a really old version of Jack and the Beanstalk in The Sibling Society. It's fascinating, and I'd never given the story much deep thought.

Anyone know who is missing in the story of Jack and the Beanstalk?

I dunno Deanpaul, Jack's father?

So my little cleaning and organizing tendencies (of the SW toy section) seem to have evolved over the past year, mostly out of pure aggrivation.  I still consolidate the few remaining figures onto the fewest possible pegs, and line up all the vehicles or other random sets nicely...  But the oft-bare pegs have put me at a frustration level that is rather counterproductive as far as cleaning up the SW figure section.

Now, since the wall is usually completely bare, what I'll do - mostly to draw the store's attention to their otherwise empty wall and wasted retail space - is create a giant pyramid of random crap all the way up the wall.  I'll pull all the empty pegs down and set them on the shelf (like 12 or so).  Then I'll just start stacking crap up.  Start with the lightsabers, ships, cup sets, etc.  Then I'll grab some of the stuff lying around from the other toy lines and add it on into the madness.  I guess the display varies from day to day, depending on my artistic abilities of any given day.

Sometimes it's a giant pyramid, and sometimes the project winds up as a giant symmetrical box stacking - ala SW Jenga if you will.  Always fun, and I'm sure the end product is certainly an eyecatcher to shoppers and employees alike.  I suppose it does pose a danger to any kid who might want to take a yank at a box at the bottom of the pile...  But since we all know that kids don't go anywhere near the SW section in the toy aisles anyway, there's really nothing to worry about.

So...  Who else does whacky $h!t like this?  I can't really be the only one, right?  Probably best not to answer that...   :P

So basically, you’ve been messing with the employee’s heads? Stress them out, engage in psychological warfare to get the product you need onto the shelves? A little battle royale of the wills to see who can outwit, outplay and outlast the competition? Who will be the sole survivor!?!

You may have more serious problems than lack of Star Wars toys, Matt. There may be more at stake here, like your very soul. Have you noticed this little gem down the aisle from the toys at Target?

Your burst appendix doesn’t look so innocent now, does it? Dude, you’ve got to either quit while you’re ahead or pick one of these kits up yourself so you can fight back! Don’t take this laying down! Take it to the next level!

And get some new Star Wars toys on those pegs so I can buy them next time I’m in LA.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Honda Accord: Anyone drive one?
« on: May 13, 2004, 10:49 AM »
I'll vouch for the Accord, although I've only driven other Honda products.

I got a 88' Civic Wagon in 91', it had 80,000 miles on it when I got it and 292,000 when I sent it to the American Lung Association two years ago. Not that it didn't have value, just that I needed the write off wanted to help people, since it was Christmas and all...

We now have a 99' CRV LX and a 02' CRV EX, which we bought new. We're not totally geeky, because Honda changed the body style enough we don't look like twins. And they're different colors. And one has two kid car seats in it and the other one doesn't. But the way i can tell them apart is my remote entry makes the horn beep and the lights flash so I can find the car in the dark. Screw the neighbors! It's how my car says "I love you".

We get respectable gas mileage in each and repairs have been minimal (80,000 and 38,000 miles respectively). Honda makes cars that feel solid, even at the Civic price point. The all-wheel-drive on the CRV's has been awesome in the winter and when we go into the mountains.

Regarding dealers, they're pricks in the Twin Cities and in Utah. On the 99', I went through all the dealers in the cities with little price reduction and finally went to a small town about 90 miles away where they were a little "hungrier" and didn't get the volume of potential customers that Minneapolis did.

Salt Lake dealers were even worse. The 02' CRV was in high demand when we bought ours. Honda had just changed the body style and increased the size of the engine. It was winter, and a lot of people in Salt Lake were looking for an all-wheel-drive car. None of the dealers would budge off of MSRP, one was charging $800 over MSRP, and I honestly believe they were engange in price fixing. It was cheaper for me to pick one up in Kansas City (we were already planning to fly there for Christmas) and drive it back to Utah. I made the deal over the phone. I called four dealers, and one was expecting delivery of the color and model we wanted while we would be in town. I offered my price and they accepted. No "I'll go see if my manager will let me...", no b.s., and respectably below MSRP.

I say go for an Accord, no question. I'm also going to guess you're smart enough to avoid all the "rust protection" upsell traps and that you know to check non-Honda dealers for used Hondas. They're more motivated to get a car brand that is not theirs off their lot, and people generally don't go to the Ford dealer "looking" for an Accord.

We've been looking into buying one for a while now, but just haven't quite pulled the trigger yet.  It's still the car we're probably shooting for though.  Aside from the obvious fact that it's the most stolen car in the country, I have never heard anything even remotely negative about it.  I've got several friends who drive them, and they love 'em and swear by them.  Can't really go wrong with one, unless freak hailstorms tend to hit your area, in which case I'd probably just pick up a fuel efficient junker instead...

Anyone else notice how comfortably Matt mixes "trigger" and  "shooting" gun metaphors into his description of car shopping? Only in LA baby! Word!
