Watto's Junk Yard / Very cool optical illusion!
« on: February 20, 2009, 10:05 AM »
I found this on another of my regular sites.  This woman can be seen rotating in both directions, depending on how you see it.  Note whether she is turning to her left or right, and see if you can change it.  It DOES NOT change on its own; you have to be able to see her spinning the other direction.  Hint:  it's easier to change her direction if you watch her thigh crossing her other thigh.

Watto's Junk Yard / My SW purist blog rant
« on: January 24, 2009, 09:48 PM »
Hey guys- hope this is ok to post here instead of the films forum; there's a lot more traffic here in Watto's.  I wrote an "essay" if you will on my purist thoughts about the saga on a blog site I created.  If you have 10 or 15 minutes to spare, I'd love for you all to read and comment on it.  Please let me know what you think: do you agree or should I get over it  :P.  Here's the link:

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Daigo-Bah's Dagobah diorama
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:18 AM »
Hey guys- I recently completed a Dagobah diorama, and have the finished pics here.  I have a lengthy WIP thread over at the otheR Site if you're interested!

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Lars Garage Diorama
« on: July 25, 2008, 08:20 PM »
Just finished my latest dio! These pics were taken before I could get the last decal on, which is one of the panels with the diamond lights just above the oil bath.  I decided not to try the Lars speeder (mostly due to lack of shelf space) and I also opted not to try the home entrance at the end of the plank walkway on the right side (since it is usually out of view from the front angle).  Hope you guys like it (WIP pics are at RS in the diorama section)!

The Legacy Collection / Hasbro profit question for you guys
« on: June 21, 2008, 05:22 PM »
Hey fellas- I recently had a talk/debate with the wife about the exorbitant price for a toy (the BMF Falcon), and we ended up discussing the cost and profit for toys in general.  What I wanted to ask you guys is: what do you think the cost to profit ratio is for the BMF Falcon, and compare it to a figure.  For example, would a figure cost 50% of it's selling price to make, and the BMF more like 75%?  What do you think in dollars each BMF costs to make?

This is a moderately altered version of an older dio I made, the Cantina.  Originally it was one piece and I found it difficult to see inside of it and enjoy it for what it was.  I recently cut it in half and re-worked it to get what you see here.  The last pic shows the front half mounted next to the back half.

Check out how great this is!  I'm going to make one soon!

Star Wars Action Figures / Seated and repainted Takeel
« on: April 17, 2008, 11:54 PM »
I put this up over at RS and thought I'd show it here too.  I wanted to make the old cinema scene Takeel sitting for my cantina diorama, so I cut his legs and inserted a bent metal rod, then sculpted into the spaces.  Repainted everything with a drybrushing and he's ready to have a drink!

And the original figure:

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Cloud City Torture WIP (2/4)
« on: January 26, 2008, 02:57 PM »
I started on a new small dio the other day, the Cloud City torture scene.  Studying the pics of the movie set, I noticed that the walls are weathered metal siding (like a tin roof), the floor is a reddish color, and there is a small control room off to the left.  So I made the floors and wall from cardboard with the top layer ripped off and foamcore, respectively.  The wall struts are strips of very soft craft wood (and will be what I use to make the struts that hold up the slatted ceiling).  There are 2 wall "seats" (similar to the slab that they lay Han on after he's tortured) sticking out the wall in this scene, so I made them from foamcore and painted them gloss black.  The lighting in my room makes the floor look a bit more orange than it really is; the spraypaint was actually red oxide primer from WM.  I included a couple pics for scale, but I still have quite a lot of work to do on the ceiling, column struts, and control room background.  More to come!

Thinking about the Q and As and how secretive they are (note to Hasbro: you have an exclusive contract; no other company can beat you to the punch with an idea!), I was wondering who would prefer to get the entire year's list from Hasbro in January or get sporadic surprises throughout the year with each convention.  I think I would prefer to see the entire list now to plan for the year and let the new images serve as a surprise.  What about you guys?

30th Anniversary Collection / Your DEFINITIVE top 3 wants!
« on: December 30, 2007, 08:40 PM »
Yes, another want list poll!  I love these; so this time, the question is what 3 figures (new, resculpt, or even rumored) occupy THE top 3 spots on your want list.  Imagine these 3 being the last figures ever made, if you have to  :P.  Think hard!

1) B-Wing pilot (human, red outfit)
2) Wicket/Paploo 2-pack
3) Echo base trooper (vintage brown vest version)

This year, the McQuarrie line was the one for me, I just wasn't interested in buying concept figures- but they were just sculpted so nicely, and with great articulation... that I broke down and bought 3 so far!  So that line doesn't count for me in this topic anymore.  I think the Galactic Heroes is the line that I look at every time I'm at the store- they're so gosh darn cute!- but I just don't buy 'em.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Jabba's Band alcove diorama
« on: December 13, 2007, 01:13 AM »
Just put the finishing touches on this one; everything is styrofoam coated in plaster of paris and spray-painted/weathered.  The Sy Snootles is a custom upgrade of the vintage figure.  Hope you guys like it!
