Middle Earth / Re: LOTR Trilogy Figures
« on: March 1, 2004, 09:24 PM »
Ok, mosnab, here's my thoughts.   :)

Boromir/Aragorn/Gandalf the Grey: I'd wait and see about the SP ones.  The Boromir is fantastic.

Frodo/Sam: Wait for the SP ones.  The Orc disguise versions are also some of the best.

Merry/Pippin: The armored versions are the way to go.

Gimli: The coronation version is sweet, but the Gimli shipping now in the Trilogy line is the most basic version, and very good.

Legolas: The Rohan Armor is the best; a close second is the ROTK one shipping now sans armor.

Gandalf the White: The Trilogy version is good, as is the ROTK one if you can find it; for this and perhaps also Pellenor Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, there's the Gates of Mordor set shipping later this year w/ the Mouth of Sauron that may be up your alley.

I saw it tonight.  It's very good, but flawed in a few ways.  I'm still sort of decompressing.   I'll write more when I've given it some more thought.

That would be cool.   ;D

LOL.

Ms. Zellweger is a very good actress, especially when she's acting surprised that's she's won.  She reacted the EXACT same way when she won the Golden Globe, almost to the point that made you wonder if it was rehearsed.  Her sincerity comes off a little earnest and maybe a bit forced.  Maybe it's just me.

Yeah, Bill looked a little peeved, but I would be, too.  There's no shame in being disappointed, and Sean Penn's speech about how there's no such thing as 'best' acting was right on.

ROTK: Proof sometimes the right thing does happen.

Sofia Coppola: Richly deserving, she wrote/directed the best American film in years, and really made the best film of 2003, but ROTK won not for itself, but the trilogy.

LOL, Ben, I was flipping between Buffy/Braveheart as well.

Well, shoot.  All I can say is wow.  Yoda, perfect.  3-PO, perfect.  Lando, perfect.  Vader, perfect.

Still not buying them.  I'll wait for the repacks, and if they never come, shame on me.

I also find the current atmosphere at some other forums regarding this a little over the top.  I can't say I'm upset about the 'mistake' but what irks me is that it shows Hasbro still has yet to figure out the fan base.

They know we all want those figures repacked, and if we have them already, we want them for our fellow collectors.  They know we want new, obscure figs and more Fan's Choice polls.  They know we want X, Y, and Z, and yet they do things like this that tank SO BAD they had to know it would suck from the get go.

We're getting great figures.  Great selection, good value, this has been a good year so far.  Don't get me wrong.  It just makes you wonder.  How long have they been doing this now?  Nine years?  Give me a break.

I expect all these figures to be recarded at some point.  They had better just for the Stormtrooper's sake, or else I imagine lots of folks will be very upset.

Dagobah Luke/Yoda: Good news.

VOTC Stormtrooper: Well.  OK.  Like JediMace, I hope they repack this, because I'm not buying it.  Nor will I ever see it in the stores.

Fan's Choice #6 / We Were Just Kidding: Whatever.  "An editing mistake?" Sigh.

Sounds like I'm buying seven figures between June and December.  Wow.

I sure hope so.  The Q&A didn't sound too promising for new figs beyond September, really.  Of course there will be some, but when?  December?  Janurary?  Sounds like they're throwing out repacks galore while they work on EP3.

I guess it's a good thing, since I'll be saving lots of money.

They achieve the lower price point by issuing both the X-Wing and TIE without wings.   ;)

Great news about Luke and Yoda.  I'll still be buying two of each anyhow, to display in both their poses.

Went to TRU today to check the Ringbearer set and found the elusive Gandalf the Grey new head sculpt!  And Traveling Bilbo, too!   ;D

I started hard core with the Playmates Star Trek line in '92, I think it was, and then followed that until it sort of spiraled out of control toward the end, which is a pattern I sense happening over and over.

The Simpsons I love I love I love, but I jumped ship a year ago, when the characters stopped appealing to me, and space and money became much larger issues than before.

SW used to be one of everything loose until EP1, I guess, since there are still a few things I don't have.  Now I just buy what I want, which is less and less.  Space, money, do I really care about a Ozzel figure?  What does that say about me as a lifelong SW fan?  Am I just burned out?

I kind of am.  I've been thinking about taking a break just to recharge the batteries, you know?  It hasn't been fun for a while, and I miss that.

But then there's things like the Sandcrawler, or Dagobah Luke or Bespin Leia, and you're right back there.  We'll see.

Whedon / X-Men: Cool.

Whedon / Angel: Even better.

This week's episode shows arguably the best show on TV getting better and better even after it's cancelled.  No spoilers, but  :o

It does seem a little 'Didn't we do this last year?' but much, much more effective.  Can't wait to see how this plays out.
