The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Wave 9 - Return of the Jedi
« on: August 12, 2009, 12:50 AM »
Surprised Hasbro can't go the line of variants for DS Luke, Black tunic and open tunic, like they have for the Hoth Trooper or Ugnaughts... though I suppose it's just like Slave Leia.

Actually, that might have been the best way to go for Hasbro. But, however, opting for an alternate release might have gotten collectors mad. It's one of those "just different enough to get you mad" purchases.

What, is this supposed to be Hasbro's homage to Jason from Friday the 13th?

Haha, hilarious. It's funny how a guy like this could end up in the Star Wars movies. He does look like Jason! It's creative on Lucas's part on how he keeps his mind open for Star Wars.

Moving on to the Wave 8 itself, it's somewhat disappointing that a SA definite version of Darth Maul wasn't included in the lineup. We're getting him for the Greatest Hits line, but it would have added a core character into the mix.

And why did Hasbro use an Ep.6 pic of Palpatine instead using one of the common holographic Darth Sidious pics?  ???

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Is Yoda a coward?

Doing something like this would just be a great way for Vader to find more Jedi. Big groups of Jedi in training would be a risky move. And also, how could Yoda communicate with the large handfuls of Jedi that had survived Order 66?

This figure seems very good for DS2 Luke though.  I'm quite pleased.  Love that he has the binders for pop to force-undo for him too.  Nice touch.

It's a nice figure, without a doubt. But the removable chest piece is kinda pushing it. It does make sense why Hasbro would do this, without it, they would have most likely have to make a completely new figure. But it's good, and we collectors can finally get our hands on a new DS II Luke. Ever since that pathetic "Saga" caveman version...

The Slave Leia is also quite impressive. Very nice, Hasbro.

However, this wave seems more collector-oriented. Kids most likely don't know who's half the characters in this wave. Heck, neither do I!

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Anakin vs. Sidious
« on: August 11, 2009, 06:05 PM »
I don't think Anakin could have defeated Palpatine. Although Lucas said Anakin could have done it were he not defeated by Obi-Wan on Mustafar, it's somewhat confusing. Think about it. Yoda couldn't do it. Only Mace Windu could have (as he almost did until Anakin decided to give Palpatine a hand; no pun intended), and does Anakin look like he can defeat Windu in a duel? He couldn't even defeat Obi-Wan at first. AND when he did defeat Obi-Wan, it was because Obi gave himself up to the Force.

Maybe Hasbro will give Maris Brood SA legs! And it would be a good oppurtunity for them to give the Sith Stalker's figure a removable helmet, like in the TFU downloadable Jedi Temple level. Both would be part of those "just different enough to make you mad" kind of figures...

It would be a good opportunity but they won't. Much like the McQuarrie Concept repack sets, these will be repacks too. The question is which version of Maris will be included - the gray skin or pink skin version?

If Hasbro were to re-release Maris, it would most likely be with the gray skin. That was more realistic to the video game, since Felucia is so wild and dirty, and Maris has been living there for a long time.

The Legacy Collection / Re: ICMG, Yarna...now what?
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:55 PM »
Two words: Noa Briqualon.

This might be one of our few chances to see Mr. Wilford Brimley immortalized in plastic. Don't waste it.

Although it would be a collector-oriented release, it would obviously be a peg warmer. And what kid would want to play with this?!

I find it strange how Hasbro would use the same 2007 TAC Mace Windu sculpt twice in the same line: Mace Windu, and Roth del-Masona. Almost like how the 500th Vader figure was used in the TSC twice. I'm also disappointed that Windu's/Masona's bottom tunic is still plastic, it really restricts leg movement. It would be nice if either it's a softer plastic so there's more movement, or if Hasbro had opted for soft goods.

And has anyone noticed that Jango's outfit is still purple? How many more times will it take for Hasbro to get it right? Maybe next release....

Wouldn't it have been better to include the Concept Ki-Adi Mundi in the ROTS wave, and move the Concept IG-88 over to the ANH wave? That way, the ANH wave could have stayed OT-themed, with the ROTS wave PT-themed.

Even though, it's still an interesting wave of figures.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Jedi Master Tholme???
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:39 PM »
So was Tholme's right leg a fake one or not? There's a pic of him in a Republic comic in a medical frigate with his leg stretched out, and it has a metal casing over it. He says that he'd rather not get a cybernetic leg because it'd make him something he's not, but at the same time, the leg looks pretty much like a prosthetic.

I'd say an extended Order 66 scene featuring Luminara, and Barris Offee's deaths, and maybe even a longer scene featuring the march on the Jedi Temple.

The Prequel Trilogy / Who's Your Favorite Prequel-Era Villain?
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:32 PM »
Darth Vader and Palpatine were the villains of the OT. But come PT, we're introduced to Maul, Dooku, Aurra Sing, Zam Wesell.....

So, with that said, who's YOUR favorite villain(s) of the prequel-era?

My top 4 are (in order):
1. Asajj Ventress: C'mon. A cool backstory, evil look, sad ending, and sadistic, evil, Sith-fantascizing chick with two lightsabers? One of the most tragic villains of the EU.

2. Darth Maul: Sith Lord with a cool lightsaber and tattoos. 'Nuff said.

3. General Grievous: this Jedi-killing machine is one of the most creative additions to the SW story.

4. Count Dooku: Was he really evil? A Jedi-turned-Sith who had some realistic thoughts on the Republic. Palpatine made him the monster he was.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Your Favorite Jedi?

Plo Koon's pretty cool. Even Darth Maul considered him to be an impressive Jedi Knight of his time, and we all know how much Maul hates the Jedi...

Too bad Plo died a pretty quick death.  :'( Would have been cool to see him go after Vader
