Kubricks / Re: Show me Your Kubes!

Went out to investigate it again on my coffee break. The first time I saw it it looked like each level had a flat tray with a little lip on the edge, but on closer inspection the levels are actually thin, deep slots, more suited to holding magazines or something I guess. Took some better pictures this time:

Photoshopped in C-3PO and the red lines to get an idea of the scale.

You can see that the clear actrlic panes would be in front of whatever you put in there. Behind them is a huge, one piece plastic "layer cake" with shelves about an inch thick. If it was just the white plastic layer cake with the acrylic panes removed, it might still make a good display, but since the shelves only come out an inch or so, not much breathing room. And it's all one piece so it's big and kinda heavy. Guess I was looking at it with rose colored glasses the first time.

Where in NYC is this? I might have to see this myself.

It's in Park Slope, Brooklyn. 4th Avenue and 16th St. It was there as of an hour ago. Somebody took the flat shelves that were on the ground in my first pic, though.

Haha, if I had a car i would. (Smug New Yorker here.)  Too heavy to carry home and would probably cost hundreds to ship. Next time I walk past it I'll see if I can take it apart somehow.  :)

That's a parking meter right behind it so I'd say its about 4 feet tall. That thing in the bottom right is the base piece.

Saw this out on the curb in my neighborhood this morning, in front of a pharmacy. Wish I had the room for it/the inclination to have it in my apt.-- it would make a sick display shelf for kubricks!

Got mine for $41.99 from meimei_625. (They dropped the price by 54 cents shortly after.) Would've waited a little longer but I wanted to lock one up so I could cancel my preordered one. >:D

how do these HK guys get so many of a limited sold at a show in Japan.

Yeah, seriously. ???

Carded R2-Q5 ???   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-R2-Q5-Kubrick-Figure-/200715611448?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebb952d38#ht_500wt_1180

I nabbed one off Ebay for $47.50 plus free shipping.  Tried to get 2 for $45 each in case anyone needs an extra, but I saw the qty was down to 1, so I pounced on it.  I did hear back from the guy later ( ::)) that he is willing to do $45 shipped if anyone else needs one.  Contact Ebay user rareak and he'll sell one offline for that price.

I tried offering him $40 this morning and he declined, then offered me the $45 deal.  Just offered $40 to a different seller though, so I'll see what happens (playing some hardball ;))

Sorry to hear that, Sith.  What was the shipping cost listed on the Project 1/6 store? $22 seems high.

I tried that same route with the bidding service I use, Shopping Mall Japan, when the carded Darth Dagobah was coming out. They accepted my order but then cancelled it when they realized they'd have to buy it on a certain day/time (I think that day was on a weekend when their office was closed.)

Lost here, ya telling me HLJ is shady weeding out the boxes after they get the chases...  ???

(I know you were talking to Justin but I'd like to answer too.  :)) I don't think it would be shady, since they haven't made any claim that they're not doing that. But it would be lame. Selling weeded out sealed boxes is for bottom feeders, not leading retail sites.

Bummer.  I just don't trust HLJ.  I'm sure people have found chases from them before, but per the discussion above, you can easily tell where the chase boxes are after opening a few. They refuse to send out a Master Case and seems like their ratio on delivering chases here is the lowest - just seems shady to me.

Ever since they first told you they wouldn't do a sealed MC I was thinking that too. But I thought a few peeps here had said they pulled chases from hlj boxes, so I gave it a shot, esp. since they had the lowest price ($186 shipped, SAL.) My box was packed like the charts above, with the 2 dignitaries next to each other. Anybody else get an HLJ box this time around?

If anyone still needs, I have a set of 6+ probot available for $85 plus shipping.  :)

I really only needed one piece of that puzzle, and that particular card wasn't damaged.  But man, some people simply just don't care.

You said it. Next time I'll work out the shipping details with the seller beforehand if I'm buying something delicate.

Was this a lower production run this time, did shops get shorted?  He made it seem like they weren't nearly as plentiful as the last series.  Not just the chases, but cases overall (although fewer cases also means fewer chases.)

Congrats on getting your full set at that price--you are a lucky man to have that overseas connection! I wonder if production's down or if more sellers were after cases to resell, after seeing how high stuff sold for with DX3. DX4 did seem like there were fewer available preorders and stuff, but I feel like I've seen more DX4 chases and full sets on ebay and yahoo than I did for DX3.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of Medicom headquarters for a day... (and speak Japanese.) :)

HLJ shipped my box out a few days ago, but my cheap ass chose SAL shipping, so I guess I've got a long wait ahead of me...

Also I got my background card in the mail today. Opened it up and found it was creased in a couple of spots! Not too majorly noticeable but I was still pretty bummed. I rechecked the listing and the seller stated that if insurance isn't purchased they take no responsibility for damage.  Oh well, no big deal, but its frustrating that they just stuck it in a bubble mailer along with 1 piece of cardboard not even the length of the display...  >:(
