Disney Parks Droid Factory / Re: 2024 Droid Factory Advent Calendar
« on: December 22, 2024, 06:23 PM »
Got my advent calendar set today.  After what happened to me last time, I'm going to likely just rip it all open this weekend and skip the daily advent opening thing. :P

And I should have listened to Jeff...

Everything was going great, until today when I decided to open the last few days since we are going out of town over the holiday. The piece on the 25th ended up being an error. My calendar has two of the Milk Bar pieces and was missing the final head for the Mickey Chopper unit.  >:(

It's interesting to see the differences in opinions of the crowd here vs in the YouTube comments on Bossk's Bounty video. There are overwhelming positive responses over there, including several "This is the best release of year!" type responses. This makes sense given that the average commenter on those videos seem to be newer collectors.

My opinion on the set is fairly mixed as well. I do like all of the figures and think they are well done, but this set as a whole would have been very low on my wishlist.

I think the ROTS/World-Between-World Anakin looks great and is a much-needed resculpt of a main character. I'm happy to get him... but we know they are going to put him on a regular card at some point soon. The CW version is nice and all, I like the added cape and scar, but really did not need this version so soon after the basic version. And then there's the Emperor's Wrath Vader, it's a great base figure and is technically an improvement on VC115... but not at all one that we needed or I particularly wanted. I get that Vader is always going to be a staple in the line, but 5 versions of this figure in 2.5 years feels like a lot.

I think I'll probably still pick it up, but I'll wait for clearance for any extras.

I am shooketh. I was just looking at my old TLC & POTF2 Thrawns yesterday and was considering swapping the Ysalamiri out to put on the new figure. Despite BS getting these, I had pretty much given up hope for this kind of classic EU stuff in TVC. What a cool set, especially considering only 1 of 3 figures is fully new, (not counting it's accessories. Both the figures and the cardbacks look great. Count me in for two sets. :)

I second the notion for a follow up set w/ Luke, Mara Jade, & Talon Karde!

Sorry to hear that Matt, even at that age it is always sad. But it sounds like she had a great run.

Just bought a (supposedly new, mint in box) "Chewbacca & AT-ST" off eBay for only $39.99, w/ free shipping.

The seller supposedly has multiple and appears to be a wholeseller.  None of their other items are Star Wars or toy-related, and it is quite an odd assortment...  :-X

We will see what I end up getting but I thought I's share the link here in case anyone had skipped this one and wanted to try and the lower eBay price.

I just cracked mine open too, although I thought the order in which they gave you parts is odd, so I opened the first five or so bags that got me the whole droid.  Starting with a leg and some accessories worried me that I'd lose these somehow.  I guess I've got a few days before I can open my next droid.

Agree on the order, I would have thought the torsos would have been the first piece you should open for a new droid so that you could then plug in all the subsequent parts over the next few days. It seemed odd to start with the bar accessory.

I ended up deciding to open these gradually. Looks like the Gingerbread R2 is up first. It has been fun so far only pulling a piece out at a time, it takes me back to the TLC BAD days where you'd have to wait to assemble the droid until you found each figure at retail.

I'm pleasantly surprised after the first two episodes, but I had pretty low expectations going in. I dug the pirate station aesthetics, lots of cool aliens and some great set design.

They look great! This was at the top of my Season 3 wishlist, so I'm glad to get this one. I also went through the JD Amazon links, with any luck they will go on sale like Cobb Vanth sometime before they release and we will get this for close to regular figure price. I still think this would have fit on a standard card (even if it was at the higher price), but it looks nice. I wonder if ProTech or any other company is going to start making large star cases for these new deluxe figures?

This set has definitely grown on me as well. I liked it a lot more than the 212th set w/ the removable helmets. The scale of the new helmet sculpt is much more accurate looking. I currently have four of this set, with four more on the way from the Amazon sale. I'll probably keep adding to that whenever these go on sale again.

It's crazy that this set was originally pipelined a year ago, and we have yet to see another clone 4-pack announced since. Hasbro could easily put out 1-2 sets of clones per year and they'd all sell well.

I'm hoping the Order 66 pack gets a markdown soon.  I'm not interested in getting additional things on this list.

Same. I still check that one regularly looking for a drop.

I am glad to see the Phase 2 Clone Trooper 4-pack on the list, I wanted a few more of those.

I just love your plucky optimism.

Maybe it is just the promo pictures, but this set is just a little bit of a letdown for me, mostly based on the paint apps. The sculpts and contents are all okay, but the paint feels really flat & 2-D on everything pictured. I guess it is an easy enough fit to repaint it on my own, but I'd rather have had it a bit better looking out of the box. I do like the new Grogu. He feels like the most drastically different version we've had since the first one came out in TVC.

I am curious how well those extra helmets will fit on the Shriek-Hawk Mandalorian set figures for some easy customs. I'm hoping they can be easily mixed & matched to fill out the covens ranks.

My sets arrived the other day. Overall my initial impression pretty much matches how I felt when it was first revealed. It's not bad, but leaves bit to be desired. The cave/forge is nicely sculpted, but it is all very flat-looking without any paint. I also don't love the exposed-backside on top piece. For $60 I wish they would have sculpted and detailed both sides of the top pieces and added some basic weathering.

I'm almost tempted to get another one for that price to swap out the forearms on so that I can have the un-armored version, but we know Hasbro will likely be double-dipping on that one within the next year or two.

Hasbro has already hinted about the BOBF unarmored version coming eventually and Jayson has it on his master/rumor list so it's pretty safe we'll get one soon.

I am still tempted to buy a second just to have one posed with the helmet on for my "many looks of Fett" shelf and then the unmasked with the TM figures.

Nice. I must have missed/forgotten that. I tend always have that dilemma with helmeted characters too, I want to display them both ways but don't always want to buy an extra.
