Title: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jeff on February 20, 2014, 01:29 PM
I was looking through the latest BBTS newsletter and I saw these - Acid Rain (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=3318) by someone called Ori Toy (http://www.oritoy.com).

It's like a 3.75" scale figure line where they pilot/drive Mech/Transformers type vehicles.  The vehicles are expensive ($100+), but they look awesome.  Neat line, but may be too expensive for me to test out sight unseen.  :-\

Anyone have more info or have seen any of these close-up?

The background on the line is that world war 2 didn't end and sort of continues in this futuristic "what if" scenario.  I was very interested till prices turned up and I almost gagged.  $20 for figures is even high but the vehicles floored me.  If these were in line with Star Wars in pricing I'd be jumping in I feel sure.  Even like $12 figures I'd give a go.  The tanks and things I can see $50-$60 but yikes.  I want but my want has limits.  If they get manufacturing support from a larger company maybe that'll help lower costs.  They're a pretty new company (I think).

I wanted to add though, I think that stuff's awesome...  That walker/tank in 2 pieces, my goodness I want that. :(

Price be damned, I may order that 2-pack of figures with the base.

I soooooo want that tank mech suit.

I know, right?  I saw those pics and was blown away and then cried a little inside when I saw the price.

Like you said, that two piece tank thing that transforms into a base and Mech/walker thing is so bad-ass.  I'd love to see this stuff get picked up into wider release somehow to bring the cost down.

Very cool stuff though.  Might have to keep an eye on more of these "designer" 3.75" scale companies that are out there (like the Aliens thing you were talking about the other day).

Hiss Tank has been covering these for a while but Monte Williams posted a photo review of one of the vehicles, Stronghold ST-1 Marine Quad Eyes 303rd Division (http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/compatible-military-toys-20/acid-rain-stronghold-st-1-marine-303rd-quad-eyes-review-12806/)

I broke down and ordered one of the $20 figures last night.  Thanks again Hasbro for not giving me any new Star Wars figures to buy for a while.  :-\  #dabblingisdangerous

I ordered the 2-pack with the destroyed angel statue and base.  I can't wait, honestly.  I wish I had someone interested in one of the figures for a discount, but I'll deal with 2.  They can go on my meager GI Joe display shelf.

A new figure is up for pre-order now.

It's the Argurts Infantry:

Awesome looking figure...

That's the mini-gun Hasbro should've put out with the Clones too.  :D

Man, this line just looks cool.  Wish they were cheaper... but I understand why they cost so much.

Tempting...

I ordered the figure 2-pack with the statue...  The vehicles kill me as I really want the walker/tank thing, but I just can't jump on the price. :(  I want it though, and if things were different for me I'd buy it.

These figures have a slight animated vibe to them, which I like. I am leaning towards getting one of the Augurt (August + Yogurt?  :P) figures. The SOL figure struck me as rather basic and light on accessories, which made the price point hard to justify. The Augurt has more weapons and appears to have more going on sculpt-wise, so it seems like the right choice for me to try out.

I have to admit though, the statue/dio set looks great. The vehicles are still overpriced IMO.
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jesse James on April 17, 2014, 12:32 AM
I can't say they're overpriced given the company's size making them.  I just can't afford them at this point.  I WANT to afford them, and if they got the price under $100 for that walker/tank, I'd probably cave on one.  Not both, but one I think would be doable.

They're basically a transformer which is a complex toy when you break it down, so that's what makes me think the price is probably fair enough, I just think it'll hurt sales of the bigger stuff for them.

The 1/16 RC tanks I buy are complex, but they're made by Chinese companies, they're cranked out with quality issues galore (and unfinished which is huge in saving $, and something THESE toys have as a major cost I think), and so drawing comparisons I figure this is probably fair but I just can't justify it personally.   :-\

Under $100 and I'd have ordered that thing though.  It's beyond cool.  It crosses to Star Wars very well (something I feel necessary to buy something outside of Star Wars), and it looks just sooooooo badass and hyper detailed.

So yeah, I'm sooooo close to a buy on these.  I got the two soldiers with the statue already, which is now sold out, but I'm seriously eying up the Walker/Tank now.  I was looking over some of what they've teased, and this stuff falls directly in sync with something I've picked up as another hobby during these down Star Wars times.

Something that crosses over nicely and which I've been enjoying on Twitter somewhat.

This Acid Rain stuff is really slick though, and after seeing a nice review of the tank, I'm shocked at how big it is.  The pictures really don't do it justice.  That price still stings, but for the quality, it's like my 1/16 RC tanks...  I'll shell out over $100 for high quality, and that thing fits the bill.

I'm so close to a purchase.  If there weren't so many home/car projects in Summer, I'd have two already. :P

I hate loving this line. I got the Augurts trooper and Winged Victory sets in the mail last week and both are very cool. The quality on the figures was surprising. I did not expect $25 figures to be so... toy-like I guess.

Jesse, right now I'm in the same boat as you and considering adding a vehicle to my collection. I should refrain though as I know it would be a slippery slope.

VERY much leaning to getting one of the quad gun walker things.  I know what you mean though Greg...  I get that, and I'll want the next big one they make, probably that tank bit.  Then there's some airborne thing teased, and that little mini-bike, and I want both.

And anything that dishes out a "scenery" bit like that statue, I'm probably interested in at least.  I'd like to sell my extra soldier from the set is all.  I really don't want to get into the figures.

So yeah...  well...  I ordered the Quad Eye tank...  I watched one good review of it, and that was all she wrote.

I also didn't realize it's A) electronic, B) an imported toy (thus price), and C) expensively packaged as well.  Plus there are a few features I didn't know existed, and little details.  More than enough to push me over the edge.  Plus hey, I earned it.

A) electronic

Oh? I was not aware of this... please tell me more!  :)

Nor was I, till I watched a guy's pretty good review of one...  Light-up display panels inside the cockpit.  They help illuminate another surprise in there too.  All the little figure would need is a bottle of lotion to go with that other surprise the review revealed.

They look like solid toys, and apparently now you also get a 2nd set of tracks that either A) look cooler, or B) look cooler AND move.  I guess the initial tracks (solid "rubber band" style) don't move real well, so they include a 2nd set, and a tool, to put individually linked tracks on the drive/road wheels.

My fragile little mind was blown.

If I'd not JUST paid off something, I would not have bought this.  It's a quasi-reward to myself for something I did for Diane's house.  I figured I was owed something, even if I had to buy it myself.

That's poor man's rationale.

Ah, now that you mentioned the "other surprise" I do remember the lights, and I probably watched that same review. The second set of tracks sounds like a nice addition. I'm still not too keen on the prices for the vehicles, but the Quad Eyes is on my radar. I am leaning towards getting the smaller upcoming vehicle (the Raptor, I think?), as a way to "test" them out before seriously considering the bigger (and pricier) offerings.
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jesse James on July 16, 2014, 08:00 PM
Being basically import toys, the price is what it is to me...  If I want an import toy bad enough, I usually jump over a price hurdle.  I'm not wild about it though, either.  It stings.

I figure though, the quality's miles above anything Star Wars has done lately.  Imagine a Star Wars vehicle like the Snowspeeder rocking a paintjob like an Acid Rain toy?  Good lord.

That said, Star Wars stuff is domestic and SHOULD cost us less since these Acid Rain toys cost less in Asian markets generally (heard in China they're downright cheap even, for what you get, though limited).

I'm anxious to see where this line's going now.  It's small so it'll be slow I think.

I'm all-in.

The lack of Star Wars stuff for the next 6 months was more than enough to push me to order more of these.  I'll be picking them up next pay I do believe.

Uh, thanks Hasbro then?  ???

Seriously I'm not even down on Hasbro.  I have plenty to buy from them, just not a ton, and that frees up money for me to enjoy other stuff, and so I shall.  So thank you! :)

Wait till Quad Eyes gets here.  Totally reviewing that.  It's too good to pass up.

Given what we saw I think I'm ordering the Mk.II Speeder in a couple weeks perhaps.  I may also get the marine deco Quad Eyes since I have the other on the way.  I kinda want both now...  Less Star Wars, means more Acid Rain.  Tell yourself that.

Again...

We doubled our image gallery for the Acid Rain line tonight!  Tons of new images, including shots of the placards giving the new Mech suits their names.  The Laurel, is basically one new suit that comes in a wide variety of flavors.  Marine, Sand, Mechanic, Airborne, and Viking to name just 5, and it appears to have even more!  I'll take...  uh...  all of them!

The Raptor should be available at BBTS in the (hopefully) near future.  That would be the "Sand Bike".  It comes with a bike, a "blanket", and a figure.  $80 is the price I've heard/seen.

Was excited to see Acid Rain pre-orders at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?id=JE-405087801&company=toynami&theme=Acid+Rain) until I saw that most prices are a bit more than BBTS. :(

Seems like that is because EE is bring them in via Toynami and maybe not direct like BBTS?  Nice to see Acid Rain somewhere else, maybe competition between EE and BBTS will get us lower prices eventually?  Nah, probably a pipe dream.

See lotsa free shipping though, which is good, but really is only good if the prices were matching BBTS.  :-\  They kinda wipe each other out I guess, and my Pile O Loot will negate the free shipping at EE further.

Option for future orders though maybe, if I'm getting more than a few things.

Jeff, and anyone else curious...  Besides the Raptor Pre-order, I just ordered the Mk2 Speeder...  Ugh.  I'd better get Bomb Girl.

EDIT: And like that, murphy's law, something on backorder overseas came in so I now owe for that too.  ::)

Just noticed that the EE pre-order for the Raptor mini-speeder hicky jiggy is actually the same price, plus free shipping, as BBTS's is with shipping costs added (even if you have a pile-o-loot going).  I may be cancelling my BBTS order on that and pre-ordering via EE then.

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1440&id=JE-405087801

This makes me hopeful prices will be competitive.

EE's order says it comes in Oct., and BBTS is listing the Raptor for Sept., so it may just be that prices went up on the older items perhaps?  BBTS still has them listed for $10 less each, so that's the route to go on the Quad Eyes or Mk2 Speeder and any figures.  Though you can't get the Wings of Samothace thing at BBTS any longer.  I'm kind of shocked they'd list it at EE even since it's hand-made by the line's creator.

Anyway though, the Raptor's the same price plus free shipping so it's cheaper actually.  EE is the route to go.

I actually saw that for pre-order overseas, and I was giddy until....

yeah, the price.  WOW was that price shocking, haha.  It shouldn't be though.  A 7" scale mech from Titanfall + a 7" scaled figure that fits inside, and is every bit as articulated and detailed as the mech is, is probably worth that.  :(

Outta my scale range though, thankfully. :P  If that were 4" I'd have messed my pants, and bought it, and openly wept while eating cereal for dinner for several months.  :-\

I posted my first Acid Rain Toys breakdown on our front page...  I wanted to look at the Speeder Mark II first since it's the smaller vehicle out on the market right now.  I think you'll dig it though, despite the price.  It's not in everyone's wheelhouse financially, but if it is, you'll love having one of these (if not more) on your toy shelf!  Trust me on this.  :D

Clicky to check it out!

Let me say, several things that surprised me...

-The packaging was more interesting than I usually let happen to myself.
-The pack-in paperwork is insanely cool...  not expensive, but the fact they gave you this one little sheet of paper?  It's awesome.
-The figure is shockingly poseable.  Far more poseable than any GI Joe or Star Wars figure I've ever posed.
-They go above and beyond to create something seamless that makes you think this is all you get, when in reality it does a whole lot more and hides that it does transform beautifully.

Also, it's maybe the most nicely engineered and designed toy I have ever held...  ever.  It's really worth the $ to me.  I think you will be more than pleasantly surprised as well.

Giggity!  :D

Seriously considering an Argurts Infantry now for completion's sake.  I have the Sol Commander and I like him more than I imagined.  I'm not a Joe articulation guy, but I'm looking forward to the Bucks Team they're working on too.  They are apparently a full team of figures, so they're a bit more interesting in that regard too.

Army building at the price is unrealistic, but one of each never hurt. ;)

Definitely get an Augurts Jesse... that is one badass figure right there!

I actually ended up selling off (for a pretty penny) the Winged Victory set and Augurts figure shortly after I got them during the summer, just because I was "afraid" of getting sucked into another line. Just last week though I stumbled upon an eBay listing for a Winged Victory set plus an extra Sol Commander for sixty bucks, so I had to pull the trigger on it. With that deal and the upcoming Bucks team and Laurels I may very well stick with the line... this stuff is getting way too cool!

I also got to handle both the Speeder and Quad Eyes at a collector meet-up last month, and I was blown away by both. Online pictures don't do the detailing justice. Those are definitely on my wish list for when I have unlimited cash and display space.

I tried hard to show people the little stuff they do to the vehicles to make you WANT to play with them, and not just set them on a shelf!

I mean, they plug screw holes (these aren't your Hasbro vehicles folks) with hand-holds, and little hooks/holes/loops to add stowage, ropes, scale chain, backpacks, whatever...  You could hang your prisoners on them, whatever you wanted.

It's small details like that, which really floor me.

I just did up a Quad Eyes photo shoot in my little weird space backdrop I've also been enjoying (on my Twitter Account, as well as any picture I take of a toy at this point, haha).  The Quad Eyes takes the Mk2 Speeder to a whole new level...  plus electronic.  Small electronics, but electronic nonetheless.

These mesh with Star Wars perfectly, the company gives a huge hoot about collectors...   It's really a line Star Wars collectors, the ones who nitpick details anyway, would love I believe.  It has that "World War 2 Sci Fi" vibe.

The Laurels...  Good god they cannot get those made fast enough!

I'm probably ordering Argurts soon.  I didn't want sucked into the figures too, just vehicles, but the figures are getting me.

I'd love to see this universe translated into a comic book or something.  Hell, a cartoon even.  It'd make such a good graphic novel or anime.

BTW I see there's a painted laurel...  production?  Seems like Bucks Team are in some kind of production for an Asian toy/convention, as well as a sketch of a new "Fox Team" character...  A woman, with a crossbow, and a fox deco gas mask.

The line's creator is up to his ears with creating this universe.  I give him credit.  I wish he'd put it to a cohesive story and put some of that out there.  He's got some of the groundwork laid out, but there is a lot more needs done to explain who is who, what's what, and who/what are where I think.  Hell, just a full map of Earth as it is in that universe, would be helpful.

Once my Xmas bills are paid next month I'm actually eying a 2nd quad eyes and going all in and buying all the figures.  I'd backed off figs but they're really nice so I am wanting the Buck's Team, and now this exclusive fig and vehicle.  ::)

Did you catch the new figure (new series perhaps?) in the coverage Jeff?

Winter setting but looked like just a more heavily armored infantryman for the setting they're in.  Makes sense given the "walker" technology they'd face...  There's a similar concept for the kits I've been buying where infantry are basically called "soft shells" and more mobile but easily cracked open.  Pretty slick.

Also noticing they had prototypes of the Laurel Worker, and the Stronghold Beaver, which are AWESOME little side vehicles.  I like the concept of support vehicles like that, and it looks like the Stronghold just requires a new upper body portion for variations.  The Laurel just seems to get new arms and attachments.  Slick little designs. :)

Interesting to see that apparently the Flak Bike is heading to production, if I'm guessing correctly.  A mix of a Kettenrad from World War 2 (think motorcycle and mini tankette have a baby), and a friggin' cannon, combined into a transforming vehicle...

This has been one of my top wants since they debuted prototypes a while back...  Artillery doesn't generally make for an exciting toy, but when it's a tank-ish motorcycle that transforms into artillery, how can you say no?

Jeff will cave.  He'll at least get a figure.  I can see it.

Another exclusive, this one for the Taiwan Toy Show...

A Sol Commander Desserter, who sports a rifle w/sling, and a tattered cloak and stuff, and belt to hold it on.  An awesome little unique accessory set for an existing figure.  Like Red Face for the last show, I'm thoroughly bummed I can't own one.  :'(

I wish I had better overseas contacts to pester for this.  >:(

Acid Rain's revealing stuff in dribs and drabs.

There's been the Taiwan Show exclusive Sol Commander Desserter, which is just an SC with some very spiffy looking cloth accessories, more or less.

They've also introduced a couple cold weather looking decos on Bob and Sol Commander figures, again with unique softgoods.  Not sure if either are going to be more than just teases online though.

And today the Flak Bike prototype surfaced and was shown in "Flak" mode, which just looks like a beast!  Looks bigger than Quad Eyes even.

Also, a new figure was revealed, who looks to have some kind of "heads up display" visor on over his helmet.  No real clue on the figure's purpose.  Could be a Flak Bike pilot maybe?  Odd looking but cool.

Also the rest of Bucks team have been revealed.  Guess those will hit pre-order sooner than any of the rest.

The Ori Toys blog posted an update with a new item coming soon...

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/015ARW_LaurelMarine01_TN.jpg) (http://oritoy.blogspot.hk/)
Clicky!

Looking as though the Laurel may have a pilot pack-in...  The figure in the suit just turned up recently in pictures, and features an enclosed "HUD" type helmet mask.  Deco suggestions were even being taken (I like shark-mouth, personally) for the pilot's helmet.  I'm easy when it comes to shark teeth on a vehicle or helmet. :)

If the Laurel is anything akin to the Quad Eyes or MkII SPeeder's quality, it has to be insanely well done!  The big ass hand cannon combined with a shoulder-mount weapon is neat, and harkens to quite a few different "Mech" designs from various other universes.

It looks ready to march out with my Quad Eyes and MkI "Raptor" Speeder now...

I really hope this line delves into some kind of flying vehicle.  Even something small, or a hover-tank type weapon would be neat.

There is a "worker" variant of the Laurel that I pray they wind up doing because it'd look sweet as hell loading cargo in an Imperial or Rebel hangar dio!

Holy crap that's amazing! The only thing I'm not too keen on is the lack of a windshield/armor cover for the cockpit, but the overall design is cool enough to overlook that. Looks like a lot of articulation, and the cockpit interior is something else. I'm trying to get out of the line (again), but stuff like this and Bob's team make it really, really hard to do so.
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy

DO NOT get out Greg! :)

Seriously, I'm going all in.  I ordered Bucks Team and the Argurts Infantry last night from EE here on the site because I got free shipping on the dealio too.  Is $83 cheap?  Nah, but look at Star Wars?  I've got two waves to buy, and the wave up for pre-order now is meh to me.  TFA stuff there will be sales, and a lot of it I'm sure will not appeal to me too, so I'm sure I'll be in the limited purchase category there too.

Looking at Acid Rain, this is the perfect place to spend my money...  I'll be getting two Laurels at least.  I am anxious to see if the array of variants to the suit will come too, like the airborne, the quad-legged one, the Worker...  I'm ok with import toys when import toys deliver something above/beyond in terms of quality.  These really, really do.

I mean, I swear that MkII Speeder Review is 100% truth...  I purchased it myself, full price, no gimmes there for an endorsement publicly...  I paid for it, and I wasn't even sure I wanted the MkII actually, and I 100% wish I'd just bought it sooner than I did.  I love it, and this line in general.

I actually wasn't going to buy figures, but I caved just this week, and bought the ones I didn't have.  They're not an articulation style I personally favor, as I prefer what Hasbro does with their TBS 4" figures, but the figures really grow on you and look 10x better than most GI Joes do IMO, despite having similar articulation styles.

I'm all in on this line...  I'm even in on multiples now of some vehicles.  Buying a 2nd Marine Quad Eyes soon, and then the Sand version as well.

This is why I'm never down about any Hasbro slowdown...  I've got ample junk to waste $ on.  I just put sweet new stabilizer shocks on my Jeep.  Top of the line KYB's from work, and something I was too cheap to purchase till Hasbro saved me $. :)

Cowards!

Hahahahaha  ;D

My problem at this point is that there are too many lines pulling at me, and I can't afford to keep up with everything. Well... I can afford it, but I would feel pretty bad about spending so much! To justify everything that I want currently I would have to start downsizing my current collections (Star Wars and GI Joe, mostly) and I doubt I'll be ready to do that anytime soon.

I may stick with Acid Rain for a bit longer, and try to keep it on the small side. I have my stuff on Ebay at the moment at mostly inflated prices, so it's not like I have been seriously trying to purge. I could probably work in a small display with Winged Victory, Bucks Team, and a Laurel. Oh, and the Flak Bike. And some Agurts... maybe the worker Laurel. Possibly the Raptor as well...

 :'(

If I wasn't dumping my money into kick ass mobile suit action figures (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN15819&mode=retail), I'd probably have that Quad Eyes by now...  :-\

*shameless plug* If you'd prefer to help a fellow collector recoup his costs over getting a clearance deal feel free to hit me up! I have the Marine Quad Eyes, but it's an item I am 100% sure I want gone. I might also be willing to beat BBTS' price by $1. :P

I just bought...  (Clicky any image to buy...  You won't be bummed that you did.)

(http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES%5CTNAR1450.jpg) (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1450&id=JE-405087801)
Agurts Infantry...  These have been out a while and I caved because he got me the free shipping, I'll admit it.  I've been impressed with reviews on him.

(http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES%5CTNAR1460.jpg) (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1460&id=JE-405087801)
Buck's Team Leader Bob...  Why he's called Bob, I dunno, but he's cool.

(http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES%5CTNAR1470.jpg) (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1470&id=JE-405087801)
Buck's Team Steel...  Why he's called Steel, again, no clue, but his briefcase of rockets is freakishly sci-fi-ish looking and fun.  I dig the hardware.

I'm not committed enough to go in and army build and stuff, but I can see a figure here and there being something I pick up an extra.  The price is meh, but import toys are import toys I guess.  I'm definitely more a vehicle guy, but the figures have roped me in more now.  They're really high quality.  And Hasbro's not selling me much these days, sooooo...
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jesse James on February 26, 2015, 02:26 AM
I got my 3 figures from EE today...  Shipped free too.  While I'll concede the price blows, these are imports and I think that has to be taken into account.  It's like people in other countries complaining about Star Wars figure prices, so it's only fair.

I picked up the Agurts Infantry, Bucks Team Bob (Leader), Bucks Team Steel (Guy who apparently blows **** all to hell)...

While price is questionable, you do get substantial "toy" and substantial packaging for said toy.  I think that should be taken into account too.  While I don't foresee myself army building figures unless it's by accident (pack-ins and whatnot), I definitely see myself being more interested in the figures themselves whereas I was probably saying a year ago that I wouldn't buy any, and stick to the hardware.

Hardware's fun but when they make a dude with a rocket launcher rocket briefcase, they have my attention.

I opened these and proceeded to litter my twitter feed (@Jesse_James77) with pictures and thoughts...  they were a-plenty.  :-X

I enjoyed kinda pseudo-reviewing them...  phone pics are what they are, my apologies.

The packaging these come in, it's really neat.  It's not practical, but it's nice foam lined, heavy cardboard, and a beautiful sleeve of art of the character/figure (art that the line's creator designed to make the figures) slips over the box.  They don't tape it shut, no bubbles...  The foam inside is high quality foam, like comes with a gun case almost.  Very neat.

The figures are heavily weathered, as is the staple of the line in general...  All 3 came with lots of extra gear, a good deal more than the Sol Commander came with, though I only got Sol Commanders from the Wings of Samothrace statue LE set.

The Bob figure is their first/only unique human headsculpt...  It's cool, and I can't really tell you who Bob is other than he's crept up in a few blog posts and has some kinda story going on where he's been around a long time.  He seems to lead some special team of dudes (Bucks Team) with a sweet simplistic logo of a buck's head with antlers.  I dig it, even if the backstory is kind of piecemeal right now.

Bob came with multiple heads (masked and unmasked), a unique pouch which interchanges with his fanny pack pouch that's on him, I think.  He has a rifle, and 2 helmets.  Really Bob is an "army builder" in disguise.  You can have Bob, but with the masked head and multiple helmets (a redeco Sol Cmdr and an Agurts Inf. helmet), he really could be made into just a neat infantry dude.

He also has softgoods including a very thin fabric shirt and a weird little reddish frayed scarf thing.  I dig it!  Both look great.

The Agurts Infantry guy I'd been reluctant to purchase but with Bob and Steel in my wheelhouse I got him, and I'm happy I did.  He rocks the most weapons so you can army build and arm up a nice squad.  My fav weapon is the little "hand cannon" pistol thing.  All the weapons feature hollow barrels, and nice paint apps.  They're not pliable plastic like Star Wars, but hard styrene, and multi-part in some cases (mini-gun).

He features a little less umph to his design, and I'm noticing figures tend to share a few parts (I want to see more new, for the cost), but I'm glad I picked him up finally.  I'd passed, but the quality is really nice and he's just fun to pose with that big ass mini-gun.

The Bucks Team "Steel" guy was my last and most interesting pick up.  He's got less softgoods going on than Bob, but his work well.  He has a big honkin' rocket launcher as his weapon, which has a clip you snugly plug into his back.  My only fear with the clip is it'll break at some point.  It's a tight fit to put the launcher into it, but so far no stress I can see so I'll just be careful.

Steel's rocket launcher has 3 missiles that look like little yellow RPGs, which plug into the front of the launcher.  The 2 extra you have plug into a weird little briefcase he has for storage.  It doesn't open, they simply plug into holes in the case, which are open on one end so it's almost like the box is a weapon.  Perhaps it can be set up as a sort of remote launch system?  I dunno.

There is also a little clip for this that plugs into the Steel Figure's belt on the back (and his back also, for sturdiness) and it holds the briefcase onto his belt like a fannypack of death.  It's easily my favorite figure, and not just because of the accessories.

The only flaw I could cite on Steel are that he should've really come with the hand blaster the Agurts guy came with as a sidearm, and Steel has a groove in his noggin that is visible when the helmet is off.  A ridge inside the helmet plugs in the groove.  I honestly don't care for that, and feel it ruins taking off the helmet, and this "feature" isn't on Sol Commander or Agurts Inf. figures, or Bob's second masked head/helmet sets.

Otherwise, breaking joints loose is really about the only complaint, and that's more a warning.  Use hot water, a firm but cautious hand, and just take your time and be careful if you do buy any of these toys.  The weathering is so heavy, it fuses a LOT of the joints and moving parts (vehicles and figures alike), so you need to carefully loosen them.

Go to our front page, go to Entertainment Earth, and buy up!

Looking through the new stuff that went up this AM at BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=acid%20rain&utm_source=site&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=Twitter)...

Look at the ghillie suit on Argus (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=ORI10012&mode=retail).  On a 3.75" figure?  Wow.  Just, wow.

How am I not buying this line yet?  :-[

On top of his sniper-ish background, they explain why he has such a BFG...  his is a tank killer rifle.  They used guns like that in World War II, which actually would pierce armor.  Some GI Joe figure came with one I believe.

So Kit took that concept into the future and made a modern sniper whose sole purpose is taking out big ass stuff like the Quad Eyes?  That's awesome!  I was wondering why the rifle was going to be so huge.

I'll be picking them up.  I just got Bob and Steel from Bucks Team so I want the whole set.

Bob has a similarly made scarf that looks fantastic and is oddly poseable in a way so it looks like wind is blowing it a little bit.  Why aren't you buying these, indeed.  :-*

Let me also say I'm shocked The Laurel chimed in at such a low price...  I figured more for sure.  The Mark II Speeder is more...  It may be more complex, but about the same size and I think the Laurel is going to be more popular overall with its design crossing over more easily into Star Wars, GI Joe, etc.  It doesn't have the "transformer" appeal I guess, but I've found the mech look is the coolest for all of them anyway, though I like Quad Eyes in mech or tank mode, honestly.  It's just perfect all around.

Anyway, the Laurel is actually at a price I'll buy more than one, hands down.

I've managed free shipping with EE, so I'm sticking with my orders there when they put up their pre-orders.

Here you go -

- Acid Rain Laurel (Marine) (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1510&id=JE-405087801)
- Buck Team: Jack (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1490&id=JE-405087801)
- Bucks Team: King (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1500&id=JE-405087801)
- Bucks Team: - Argus (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1480&id=JE-405087801)

Figures are $1 more than BBTS prices.

Laurel is $5 more than BBTS... but you get free shipping so it's a better deal unless you buy a lot at BBTS and have a large enough pile o' loot. ;)

Thank you. :)  Used your link on the Laurel.  Waiting to order the figures for a bit since I've got a stack of **** to pay for between now and June.

I plan on a 2nd Laurel too, at some point.  ;D

I hope they put out the "Worker" deco Laurel.  I'd be all over that too.  I also want the Airborne one they showed, and the quad-leg Laurel which was creepy as hell but looked like a cool all terrain Laurel.

IMO, the Laurel is easily one of the better values...  It doesn't transform into anything else, but who doesn't love mechs?  These are great looking.  Far cooler than the ones from Avatar, which have a place in my customizing but it's limited to a more industrial design.  Like heavy work on the hull of something in space.

These look like they could be awesome mixed with Star Wars even, as weapons, hangar tools ala the power suit in Aliens, infantry support...  They could be an attempt at advancing infantry's abilities in combat, or even an antiquated design that had some merit.  The Laurel's definitely got mega appeal to me.  I loved the MKII Speeder and Quad Eyes as soon as I got them, but this I don't even need to own to know I want two or more.

Saw a possible MkI Speeder variant (The Raptor) sporting some big ass guns on top...  Not sure I'm down with this.  I have one MkI, and while it's neat and on a bit more affordable side as far as these go, it's also small and features a lot less "fun" than the big mofos.

I'm glad I have one, but variants would be hard for me to support unless it's something significant.

The uber awesome Laurel had boxed images on social media this week...  So those are on the way too.  I have that on order, looking forward to it.

I'm going to wait a little bit on the remaining Bucks Team guys since that'd be like $200 in one sitting, plus I want a 2nd Laurel.

I've been waiting far too long for this Laurel Marine Mech, and it looks like it's on the way soon.  They're released over in Hong Kong now, and will be hitting US shores soon (lil Marine play on words there).  At this point I know I'll love that thing enough to order two.

I got my 2nd Quad Eyes in a piggybacked order via BBTS the other day.  I'm going to buy the Sand deco too...  Yeah, $159 from EE will sting, but I want that deco the most now.

The Marine, btw, is still $114 on BBTS which is a dandy price for one if you want to jump in.

I see MkII Speeder, MkI Speeder, and the figures keep going sold out...  I'm kind of surprised on the MkI Speeder which I consider about the weakest thing they offer.  The price is cheapest, but you also get the least overall with it.  The figure's cool though.

But the MkII Speeder, I still stand behind as the one that shocked me how much I loved it once I got it.

The Laurel, I really am praying we get all these variants...  There's an "Arachnid" variant with 4 legs, an Airborne, a "Viking", a "Worker" (my favorite since it's more or less a yellow industrial looking deco!  So cool!) and a few others...  I really do hope all of them come out, but this line has a habit of showing things that won't happen.

I'm giddy!  This month, should have the first dedicated mech in the line.  At this point I'm getting anxious.

Also see new figures...  Robotic soldiers, and a female soldier of some type from a new "squad"?  Hmmm

Been watching AR's instagram as they're updating with pics from the show.

Looks like the Laurel "Worker" suit is due out late this year.  Merry Xmas to me! :P

And there's an aquatic Laurel with a kick ass diver bell type helmet on it.  It transforms into a vehicle too, not just acting as a suit, and actually becomes a submarine type vehicle.  It's beyond awesome looking.

Also new figures including a female of some kind named Sofi, an android soldier, and FINALLY the "Soil Ghosts" who remind me of the "bad" people out in the wastelands in Mad Max movies...  People affected by the pollution with defects and things.  Though their story seems to be much less them being bad, as being outcast and almost kind of sad.  I wish the guy who makes this series would get a comprehensive story and list of characters and things together.  It's kind of piecemeal right now.

Anyway, they also showed what appears to be a civilian version of the Flak Bike with a trailer, used as farm equipment before it is made into a weapon of war.

Insane what this line's doing...  The price may seem steep but it's worth it, especially if you're paying $8-$10 for 5POA Star Wars figures.  These will seem like a bargain.

Bought another Quad Eyes, giving me 3 of them...  This was a partial gift from someone to me.

I got the Sand Deco which I got at TheToySource since nobody had the sand deco in stock and the prices were good.  The sand is quite different actually and seems a little more "Rebellion" to me.  Like what these look like off the assembly line.

It also didn't have the nudie girl poster in the cockpit, but came with 5 loose anti-war posters mixed in on "worn" paper.

Also this had the extra plastic tracks packed into the box, a change from the original shipment of these.

Anyway, fun to have a new Acid Rain toy to play with. :)  Keeping me busy.

In other news I can only imagine the Laurel Worker variant is going to ship before long because the line's creator keeps posting images of the Worker on Instagram here and there.  Hope it's coming soon!

The box he comes in apparently is a functional part of the toy, acting as a big ass piece of cargo for the mech to pick up and...  well...  set down somewhere.

This is like the ASP-7 droid on roids.  No wonder I love it.  :P (Cable and Jim would get that.)

Select Acid Rain On Sale for 24 Hours! (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?spotlight=4765&id=JE-405087801)

It's EE's Daily Deal today!  It looks like a couple of the out-of-stock figures count and I assume they'll get more back in?  I stocked up on some troop builders like Argurts Infantry and Bob tonight though.  Two great figures, and I want to make a "General Bob" Star Wars figure with an extra Bob head.  ;D  I'll use his masked head for a generic Bucks soldier.  Go good with the two Laurels I picked up.  :-X

So, my haul...

2-Laurel's for Xmas gifts (yay me!  I have a Laurel "Squad" going now!), a MkII Speeder (my 2nd), and about 7 figures I do believe.  Gotta retally that, as something went out of stock on me.

Good haul on their 20% off daily deal though.  Lovin' the line in general, and got a few of the figures I DID NOT have yet.  So that was just awesome.

OK, rest of the haul...

-2 Bucks Team Argus Armor Snipers 20% off (didn't have him yet)
-2 Laurel Suits 20% off (my 2nd & 3rd!)
-1 MkII Speeder 20% off (my 2nd)
-2 Agurts Infantry 20% off (amazed they were available)
-1 Bucks Team Bob 20% off (putting the extra head on for a Bucks Team infantry guy)
-1 Bucks Team Jack 20% off (Didn't have him yet)

So I got two figures I didn't have yet, and dups of vehicles I wanted extras of anyway, and some army builders on a line I'd vowed to not army build.  The 20% off daily deal was a steal on this stuff though.  The quality is top notch, and I've paid full price, just spacing my purchases out when I do so.

Was just saying in the Bossfight thread that the going rate on these kind of "premium" toys is pretty high...  Bossfight's stuff is on the lower end of that pricing, so it's tough to fault it in my eyes.  A "premium" Star Wars figure is $13 now, and $20 in the larger scale which Hasbro says is why they went 6" (they can do a larger scale for barely a bump higher, so why not?).  It's a sign of the times.  If you want something kick ass, you have to pay for it I guess.  :-\

For me, my $ goes where I think they're delivering the best that also interests me.  Hasbro's 3.75" SA figures will get my $ till they stop doing them, but Acid Rain is a line I fell in love with on the first VERY reluctant purchase I made.  While Boss Fight's figures aren't my cup of tea really, I plan to nab a few.  My brother went all in on their kickstarter though.

It's what interests you ultimately.  Acid Rain's making things I love...  Industrial, military-looking mechs, heavy weathering/paint apps, and wild articulation and detail.  It's a mix of World War II, Star Wars, Aliens, and then Mech suits of any kind out of Japan (Chinese design/manufacturer though).  They're imports too, so price is what it is.  Also there are Hiya Toys' line of Aliens: Colonial Marines figures...  The aliens were INSANELY well done, scaled right to Star Wars figures, and now they're doing a hyper articulated Power Loader and a Hicks and Hudson.  I have Hot Toys' Snap Kits of the Aliens figures, and they're great (and were also pricey back in the day!), and these Hiya Toys figures look pretty great too.  It's all in what you like/want, and are willing to shell out for it I guess.

Bossfight's Vitruvian hacks have my attention to say the least, just as their partnership with Marauder Inc. to make "generic" soldiers has my interest.  Those aren't cheap either, but again it is what it is in this kind of market.

It's like begging for "hallways" as playsets...  Hasbro won't do them because they target such a small minority's interest, but someone will make one for $100 that's about 12" long.  If you can choke the price down, you can get what you want, ultimately.   :-\  If you want it, someone will make it.  You can go right now and get a very nice, accurate looking "Cantina Alcove" that is basically a miniaturized version of the thing Sideshow made in 1/6 scale...  Is it cheap?  No.  Should it be?  No, because it's a small group trying to put them out.  I feel it could be done for less, but that's just an opinion, and they can ask whatever they want because it's their effort/work ultimately.

"Toys" are on this designer trend more and more...  3.75" is a dying scale it seems, and niche markets are getting companies that are equally small trying to put out things they'll like, and it seems to be working somewhat ok.  $20 figures won't help the world of army building though, that's for sure.  :-\

So apparently now my Argus guys ARE in stock and shipping...  makes me wish I'd ordered a 3rd now. :P

It's a very Acid Rain Xmas at my house.  Well, it's a very hefty CC bill in January I guess actually.

Really glad that 1) they actually put this stuff on sale for once and 2) it lasted long enough for you to score what you wanted for the most part.

Plus, the referral linky clicks/sales help the site, which is always nice! ;)

I was doing it from the toy show floor too after your message... Paid off though well.

Now bring on some new pre-orders.  Keep seeing teases on Instagram (because I guess China blocks FB?) and man, I'm just ready to pre-order already.  Guess he's working on articulated fingers for the Laurel suits going forward.  Fankly I'm ok with single-piece hands myself, but articulated hands, I'm ok with that too.

And I cannot wait for that Laurel Worker with big ass cargo box/packaging, and shovel.  I just love the thought put into it all.

Another new pic.  A worker figure of some sort?  Hmm.  Interesting.  Looks perfectly at home in any local cantina too. ;D

https://twitter.com/jesse_james77/status/676590388782735360

Love the line expanding to more unmasked characters.  It seems like the story is expanding too.  I'd like to see it condensed into some kind of book at some point.  All the background on the toys is vague at this point.  Not very structured.

I've seen a good bit more of late on Instagram, out of an asian show...  More worker/civilian type figures, 3 Laurels (a Hiroshima specific one and one from maybe Tokyo?  Both with their own tools, and it looks like their own pilots as well).

Also a MkI Speeder variant, Sand with what look like large water-cooled machine guns...  While that's all neat and stuff, the MkI Speeder is, without a doubt, my least liked item they've made.  It's like $90, and it's TINY by comparison to every other piece, and has the least amount of movable parts.  Also the figure it comes with is very glossy compared to others.  It's easily their worst piece for the price.  It's neat in a way, but has more flaws than others and the least value any of them delivers.

Here is a link to it: https://twitter.com/jesse_james77/status/683047309341425664

So a "variant" is far less interesting to me.  It's gonna cost the same or more I'd assume.  I knew this was coming, just not as interesting as the Laurel Worker variations which are numerous.

Also the Flak Bike has re-emerged, with the trailer, and pumpkins.  Again, I don't get why the Flak Bike has a trailer, and pumpkins, but I like all of it.  It's gonna cost though, I can see it coming.  It's a fair size, it transforms in what looks to be a complex manner, and the treads are all 3 individual linked tracks and stuff.  That one's gonna hurt and I was wanting a few.  :-X :-[

I'm not a big Lost Planet guy at all, never even played the game, but their 1/18 mech and figure line got my attention,a nd holy **** this new one is badass looking!

Not starting their own thread for them, but the figures are kinda cool (I bought one), and have actually individual fingers on each hand, not just all clumped together like a typical figure.  Odd design.  They fit in ok with Acid Rain stuff, and their mechs, while pricey, look awesome and like they'd look dandy with Star Wars.

That beast lights up though, a lot.  Looks like quite a few light locations.

And a hefty (almost $200) pricetag to go with it. :-X

The line's creator is a tease by posting this...  Hopefully means the Chapel, something that's been seen only as a prototype since the very first pictures of the line surfaced, is now moving into the production phase.

Also, it appears there's a unique Quad Eyes mech in the background...  Unique deco and it looks to me like the cockpit section is different.  Someone said it looks camo but I think it just looks like a different weathering style.  The cockpit is definitely different though for some reason.

That Chapel though.  Good lord I have wanted that since this line was announced.  It begs for a sharkmouth paintjob on the front there.  The idea of it as a command vehicle is just incredible.  I want more than a few of them too.  It just looks awesome.

Acid Rain exclusive Laurel "Hiroshima" Worker Mech w/exclusive figure...

Love this thing.  LE to 400 it seems, which is pretty low # for a toy so I got one early.  Would like two, but the $119.99 price will probably keep me at one.  :-X

Absolutely love the deco and the figure is cool as hell.  $99.99 would've been an easier price to choke down, but this'll look slick on the shelf, or in a Star Wars diorama doin a little manual labor.  ;D

Big Bad Toy Store has 3 other pre-orders for Acid Rain Laurel's up now, and I think this one may be up the Star Wars faithful's alley more!

There is a regular release Laurel Worker (black/yellow hazard markings...  Kind of like the load lifter in Aliens), a "Ghost" all clear version Laurel (meh, not as cool to me but I may get one someday), and a "Dead" Laurel, rusted and with a corpse pilot to boot.  Interesting on the last one...  No hint of that being a regular release product, yet here it is.  Also it has an arm-built cannon instead of a hand, which was only seen on other variant prototypes of this set.

Kind of bummed to see the prices are up/down on some of these.  Considering first Laurel's price, I'd have appreciated seeing these come in a little cheaper.  But such is life on import stuff.  And these things are worth the price.

BBTS has pre-orders...  Hoping EE puts up their own soon though!

The "worker" has been on my must have list since it was first teased eons ago.  A basic, heavy construction mech.  It fits in with Star Wars perfectly, to me.  I could see the Empire having these in Kessel doing mining work, or on a Star Destroyer doing heavy lifting when needed.  Just seems perfect.  Star Wars figures do fit these well too, actually.

I've wanted something like that for a while now, and so I'm picking up two of that right out of the gate.  The Ghost, meh...  And while I like the idea of the "dead" one, the price may make me hesitant at that time of year.  Knowing me though I'll probably still buy one.  Love the line too much not to.

The Hiroshima Worker doesn't fit into Star Wars as well, but the colors are perfect if you can get past the font.  :x  Stuff like that just looks like the used "industrial" Star Wars look to it, and that it belongs in a different galaxy.

I honestly think this suit crosses over so well to Star Wars...  Could see these in a hangar for the Empire, or Alliance, or even just walking around loading cargo behind your Disney Starspeeder...  Love this thing.

Cheap?  No.  Good toys aren't "cheap" these days though, and I'm (semi) happy to pay for quality at this stage of collecting.

Some backlogged Ori Toys/Acid Rain World news...  Which comes out in dribs and drabs on social media by the line's creator.  It's kinda fun that way.

New figure pictured...

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CkJRumKUoAAqs7R.jpg) (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CkM06XGUkAEbJs-.jpg)

Forseti - Viking Shield soldier...  Bulkier armor, snowy deco, redesigned weapon, new visor on the Laurel Pilot's bucket...  Also looks to feature the new style articulation, which appears to enhance poseability and hide joints better.  I'm anxious to get some of the figures featuring this innovation.  Also, looks to be a nifty box/cargo crate the troopers come in.  Army building time!  :D  I'm sure those bitchin' crates will find their way into my goofy background diorama that's ever-changing.

Also a variant of this basic figure planned as a con-exclusive...

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cja-X6dUkAAkHU3.jpg) (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CkByDEqUoAElVgv.jpg)

AMM Soldier's...  They're a security force for "Beehive", a company that sort of has some monopoly on the honey trade in this dystopian future where bee populations are critically low and honey is an incredibly valuable resource.  I dig the deco on these more honestly.  They feature the Laurel Pilot's bucket and visor though.  And they also appear to get packaged in a special cargo crate for the AMM force.  Kinda neat.

Better pic of the Hiroshima Laurel Worker, and he comes with blueprints. :)  I hope the regular Laurel Worker comes with them as well.  Not known yet, but there is often some little extra paper freebies packed in with the vehicles in some way or another.

Oddly, the Hiroshima Worker figure is a bit more "generic" looking to the regular Laurel Worker pack-in figure.  Kind of meh, but I'm sure I'll manage some cool headswaps on them regardless.

Lastly and not leastly, a tease...

The Laurel Arachnid Model... Looks like a prototype or test shot of some sort.  Heavily armed.  Reminds me very much of a model I just got in the same-ish scale.  The Arachnid is creepy...  I'm hoping the final product is changed some, as while I like the shoulder cannon on the Laurel Mech itself, I'm kinda thinking some big missle pods up on the shoulder would be way cooler than the cannon we already have.  Either way, it's kinda creepy looking and I dig it.

ARW's Con Exclusive AMM Security Trooper has officially been announced via the line's Twitter Feed...  His packaging is one of the new "cargo pod" boxes the figures come in, making it basically a big ass accessory.  The AMM Security was revealed earlier, and it was expected to be a show exclusive.  It combines a new figure sculpt (Forseti, who will be a general release figure) + the head/helmet from the Laurel Pilot and an exclusive Black/Yellow deco.  The cargo pod packaging also features an exclusive deco with the AMM logo on it...  Guess he's transporting Honey for Beehive?  Kit Lau has an interesting vision for this line and the universe the figures come from that's for sure.

Anyway, he's retailing for $30...  That's about in line with Acid Rain World figure prices in general so it's nice to see there isn't really a price spike due to exclusivity (And hopefully no spikes from the cargo box packaging either).

I'm hoping I can get a few of these guys...  I dig the deco.  Maybe it's the Black & Gold coloring though? :P

Our initial Acid Rain gallery is up and they didn't bring nearly as many prototypes with them this year.  They brought some samples of the new figures though...  Droids and other stuff.  They have a prototype of a variant of the MkI Speeder too which would probably be lower on my personal priority list.  They also have the Rescue Laurel variant pegged for next year which is kinda cool.

And the AMM exclusive figure is selling out every day and I'd say quantities are limited at this point for each day, which totally blows goats. :(

Been busy of late, but noticed tonight that Entertainment Earth has put up their pre-order for the Forsetti Viking Shield figure...  Basically it's a new trooper type for Acid Rain, new armor (heavy armor) and he comes in the new packaging style that is a cargo pod/container that is scaled to the figures for the "Laurel" suits to heft around and load/stack.

Re-usable packaging that's part of the toy?  Pretty goddam innovative!

The kicker is that it didn't jack prices either...  $27.99 at site sponsor EE, which is on par with the previous wave of figures that chime in around $27-$29 each.  There was a fear there'd be a further price spike for ARW figures.  They're already obviously high-end toys (quality and price) so a further spike had a lot of people fearful for that cargo pod packaging.

Fear not though, EE came to the rescue on price, plus buy enough and free shipping.  I'm buying a pile of figures to get the free shipping ultimately.

Forsetti Viking Shield Iinfantry (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TNAR1620S&id=JE-405087801)
Use the link and order up!

Alas I didn't get the SDCC exclusive AMM figure. :(  Anton tried for me, but they sold out every day, and since the show they've skyrocketed on Ebay.  Blows knowing there is a figure I don't have, but not the first time.  The desserter figure also was exclusive but overseas only, and I don't have that either.

In other news though, ARW's creator has revealed a new "Marine Infantry" figure to go with, well, all the myriad of Marine vehicles they've made...  Quad Eyes, MkI Seeder, Laurel, etc.  Glad to have some infantry for them finally!  Guys besides Bucks Team anyway.  The new Marine has an opening backpack with some supplies, a couple weapons...  Sculpt wise he looks to be a variation on the Agurts Infantry figure from a while back (one of my favorites).  I'm hoping he too will come in the kick ass cargo pod packaging.

And in other other news, there's also a new boxed set comparable in design to the Wings of Samothrace set that started the line.  It's based on this art by Kit Lau:

It'll come with a chunk of bombed out building, two figures, and extra parts for head/gear customizing as well as a set of "wounded" body parts and a corpse headsculpt...  So you can basically have a guy lying about in pieces.

The Wings of Samothrace set has, as well, skyrocketed on the secondary market.  I almost didn't order one back in the day and now wish I'd bought a dozen because those sell for insane $.  Go figure.  I'm not sure if this new set will be resin cast base hand painted by Kit Lau and autographed by him like the Samothrace set was or not.  If it is, I imagine it'll cost a lot.  If it's injection molded plastic it may cost less I'd guess.

And I got my exclusive "Uncle Kunio" version of the Laurel mech from BBTS...

$120 is steep for it, but the figure's unique, it's very limited (400) and I dug (no pun intended since it's got a shovel tool) its blue deco and the Hiroshima/Japanese text on it.  I like these emergency/Worker Laurels.  I'm planning to nab 2-3 more of the basic Worker yellow at some point.  I just love it so much.  It looks equally at home in a Star Wars hangar hefting a badly damaged A-Wing out of the way as it does in its natural ARW setting.

Good times to be a collector really!  I know it's all doom and gloom for people with Star Wars these days...  Not me, personally, but I find something to enjoy a little easier I guess (who'd have thought), but I also have these other lines which deliver a LOT.  They cost.  Quality in life tends to not come cheap though, so I'm ok with that for an import line I really have grown to love and cross over into Star Wars.

Gotta find the joy in life and in collecting.  Otherwise, not a lot of point.

This is where my mind and $ has drifted since SA Star Wars is in short(er) supply at the moment...  I've been focused on stuff like this.  There's a lot of avenues to take that blend in with Star Wars and it fills that void, at least for me anyway.

Now if SA or just simply 07 articulation returns I'm gonna be in a world of hurt financially I suppose.  :-X

These are a blast though.  Really mix and match well.  The price sucks, but imports + small line...  at least they don't have 3 billion releases in a year, so picking things up isn't that difficult financially.  I've managed to get 4 and 5 of some vehicles even.

Clicky on either to pre-order though...

$74.99 for the Taste of Coffee set, but basically you get 2 figures that usually run around $30 or slightly less, then you get all the extra parts, and the dio pieces, so it's a pretty good price for those.  I'm gonna get 3 I think.  Plus I like their looks infantry-wise so I want to have a nice little squad of those guys.

The Marine, same dealio...  I'm going to get more than 3 of these over time though.  I just hope they come with the cargo box packaging that the Viking Shield figure comes with but in Marine deco...  So far no packaged shot of the Marine soldier yet.
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jesse James on October 17, 2016, 12:50 AM
I was hoping this would be the case, and it seems to be via Instagram confirmed that the Marines come with their own green Marine cargo pod/box packaging like the Viking Shield figures (which sold out...  more to come, I hope).

It's funny people poo poo the prices, but the fact is this is about the only way to go to get "good stuff" these days.  ARW's an import so it's even a tad higher priced, but with Star Wars, look where we are and Hasbro's basically saying it isn't ever going to change at this point.  Comparable US lines like HACKS and Marauder Task Force...  It sucks, but at least cool stuff is still available to purchase.  You just have to decide if toys are in the budget for you at this point or not.

For me, I figure with the limited release schedules as they are, it's not too hard to swing it.

Now if Hasbro were cranking out 60 figures a year (like the "good old days") at $11-$14 each...  holy ****.  I used to think back in 07 that it was hellacious at the prices we got it at then.  I can only imagine if they'd stayed in that scale and production style but just kept spiking prices.  Yeesh.

Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy
Post by: Jesse James on October 25, 2016, 11:06 PM
My 3 came in...  man the snow deco isn't that high on my list of wants, but this armor is all kind of kick ass.  It is actually applied like armor, and over top of a basic figure torso, so this was I'm sure something that economically helped them keep costs down while basically giving us a new figure for all intents and purposes.  It's really a neat figure and the cargo box packaging?  It's functional, they stack upon each other and kind of "lock" together so they can't just slip off of one another with a bump to a shelf...  It's awesome.  The handles on the box are sized perfectly to the Laurel's hands too, absolutely perfectly, so that they fit quite well and look badass like they're loading the boxes aboard a ship or something.

I have a hankering for more of these guys now, but I really hope they mix up deco and give us some green, black, tan/sand, and other deco choices.  I'd even dig some "urban" ones that the box is maybe a different color and the trooper is maybe more of a police deco like riot troops or something.

If I have a complaint at all, it's a lack of functioning holsters/sheaths and removable parts from weapons.  In this case a removable bayonet would've been cool and a sheath for it even cooler.  Likewise though, ALL these figures could use a pistol with a holster as an extra plus.

But if it meant giving up the box, I'll take the cargo box any day of the week.  Lacks deco, but is instant diorama fodder.

Since Star Wars is like a solid 80% humans it seems, I'm ok with this not being alien focused...  I'd highly doubt any aliens are involved.  While it's a scifi line, it's more post apocalyptic than anything.  There are mutated humans coming, a droid(s), and sci-fi industrial stuff, but aliens probably won't be a part of any of the line if I were to guess.

Guys in space suits that look like zero G construction workers though?  Good bet!  :D

EE has the pre-orders up for 3 things from Acid Rain...

Laurel "Corpse" (Rusted destroyed Laurel with a "dead pilot" action figure)

Abridon "Puppet" Soldier (android)

Expensive?  You betcha.  The Space Prisoner Astronaut is a whopping $40 for a FIGURE.  That's even cutting into my buying as I wanted to buy like 6 of those...  I cut it down to 3.  The Abridon Android is $29.99 which is meh, but these are the first army builders for the "enemy" team here, so that's cool.

The Laurel Corpse I've not yet pre-ordered.  I'm debating that one yet, but ultimately I'll maybe ask for it for my birthday since it's being released in that general time.  *shrugs*

The prices suck on that astronaut but it really does look like fun so I'm getting some of them.    The only thing about it that bugs me, besides that price, is the lack of distinctive deco on the cargo pod box/packaging.  I'd love to have seen an orange container to match the figure at least.  Simple grey, meh.  They've done different colors and decos on some so I'm hoping that doesn't stop completely and they go with just grey.  They're generic and all, and work well like that, but I'd rather something more specific.

Anyway, if you're interested please click the images above and order from site sponsor Entertainment Earth here at JD! :)

Abridon Soldier is shipping now, and also now showing as "sold out" on EE...  God help ya if you didn't pre-order because secondary prices on ARW stuff are through the roof at this point.  He who hesitates masturbates.  I miss the old days of them reshipping stuff but right now it appears if you miss it, it's gone.   :-\

Got my Omanga Troopers from EE today...  $116 more or less for 4 figures, but hey, you buy what you like!

Here is one contemplating life I guess.  Was up at my shop and decided to snap some pics on the mine ruins.

PS: Yes I had an absolute blast playing with my GI Joes and Star Wars toys on these ruins when I was a kid.  Built-in playset more or less.  :D

Acid Rain's popularity means stuff isn't lingering but with the CELEBR8 Code Jeff posted, I hopped on and bought a Mark I Speeder today.  It'd also knock a lot off a Quad Eyes, which I think if any of you bought one, you'd be hooked into this line in some capacity.  Vehicles look amazing with Rebel Troopers around them by the way. :P

The MkI Speeder isn't my fav vehicle this line has, but I only have one and having two will be quite nice.  If I had the $, I'd buy a third.  :-\

EE goes fast through Acid Rain because of free shipping and generally better prices than BBTS, despite BBTS generally getting more "nods" for some reason from the ARW public.  I never quite get that.  I mean I like the pile of loot as much as anyone but I'd rather have a better (or same) price and free shipping.  This is toying on a budget here, and ARW ain't cheap.

Oddly BBTS is miles cheaper on their Aliens Power Loader from Hiya, than EE...  Go figure.  :-\

I'm really amazed how fast this line's PREORDERS sell out.  Not just the in stock stuff, but now you can miss a figure completely before it even hits retail.  That sucks.  I'm now stocking up on Hong Kong options because they tend to have stock a little while at least.  I missed the Marine, and I have missed EVERY exclusive so far.  They sell for $300-ish now, so yeah, piss on that I guess.  Live without.  But still man, this stuff MOVES.  The market is there, despite it being a small line.

My CC has been smoked lately.  I got my "Space Prisoner" and Omanga Military Flame Trooper this past week...

The Space Prisoner is a whole lot of plastic.  Reminds me, in terms of weight, of how Ephant Mon and Hermi Odle were just hefty figures beyond the normal scope of the line.  Unfortunately the astronaut figures are the most expensive too.  Hell to buy multiples or army build much, but this figure would look perfect wandering Mos Eisley too.  He's got the dirty and grimey Star Wars look plus a sci fi space suit.  He'd look cool working on an Imperial ship too.

Really awesome detail on the space prisoners too is they have individual unique numbers.

I got three, and all of them have unique prisoner ID numbers which appear multiple places on them (helmet, shoulder, backpack).  Pretty weird.  I'd love to see them do more with this sculpt as a space worker/rescue guy maybe, a soldier of some sort.  Basically the figure's backstory is Russia creates a space gulag of sorts.  These guys are sent there, and they do some kinda spacey work.  There is a scientist repaint of this figure coming soon too, all white uniform but equally filthy.

The Omanga Flame Trooper is obviously a dude with a flamethrower, but he's also a basic Omanga Trooper with a new head and new accessories.  He'd make a cool army builder as either.  I love the orange/black deco on him, which really stands out, but the accessories make the man.  The hose from the pack to the thrower is metal rope/chain.  It actually hangs nicely from the weight, and it looks perfect.  Most of the guys reviewing this seemed to miss that the thrower actually is made to clip to the side of the backpack too.  He can carry both weapons then, which is a nice touch.

I'm hoping to get a few more of these because I really like how this figure turned out more than I was thinking I would.

I also got, but didn't tweet a picture of, the Omanga "Reborn" Trooper...  If you're into RPG's, or even FPS gaming character classes, think of him as like a berserker or "tank" type character.  They're cyborgs, made from maimed Omanga soldiers who are turned into oversized, super strong, super soldiers with whats left of their bodies.  Again, over $30, but quite cool.  It's probably something I won't buy many of, as I feel like too many of them is goofy looking, but one or two per squad of basic infantry figures makes some sense to me.

The line's cost sucks, and getting their exclusives makes getting Hasbro ones look like a slice of pie...  They're actually highly limited stuff, and the entire line is basically holding or accruing in value to boot.  It makes throwing out any packaging a big no-no for me just in case I decide to sell some day.  It's a stresser on the old CC though, and paying off the balance after an order can basically kill my toy budget for a month in a matter of seconds.  Gonna be tough sledding when Star Wars gets more interesting for me in the future (assuming TVC is worth the interest).

In other Acid Rain News, a new vehicle was announced...

It's a variation of the MkI Speeder called the Amphista.  This is their smallest vehicle, but they beefed it up with extra weapons, a figure with a working backpack, and multiple weapons...  So it's a little more than the previous MkI Speeder Raptor.  The Amphista comes with two heavy machine guns mountable to the roll cage and removable, and it includes the large water-cooled gun.

The Speeder goes from a little quad to a small bi-pedal walker mode.  It looks cool as hell with some Rebel troopers flanking it, like some kind of little support walker for them.  The grime and stuff on the deco looks better with the Alliance than the Empire IMO.

Sponsored link with EE btw.  $109.99 + Free Shipping

Love the Laurels and there are quite a few out now...  I'd like another worker but I'm waiting for the time being on another one of those.

This line accrues in value if you're thinking of diving in.  Not much I can think of that I have that isn't made anymore that hasn't spiked in value.  It's been a fairly sound investment as it's gained traction in popularity.  Never really look at toy collecting like that in the past, but this line it's been hard not to see the value of the stuff once it's out of production.  :-X

It's a lady...  AMM Prospector (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/acid-rain-amm-prospector-action-figure/tnar1760s?id=JE-405087801)

That's a nifty figure right there... probably going to buy one of those for dio filler - I like the helmet, very rebel tech-y.

Huge news for Acid Rain...  Their new design/manufacturing partner "Toys Alliance" is at a show in HK right now and debuted their first prototypes.  Figure And Vehicle series...  small vehicles and a figure.  Simple.  Or 2-packs too in some cases, as one vehicle is a robot who can transform into a quadruped robot...  Looks like the United States will get its first characters/figures for the series too.

Check out our stories on the front page.  Upping the sci-fi ante is great for me.  I like the crossover potential with Star Wars the most anyway.

Anyone seen these Planet Green Valley figures BFS is doing? Very reminiscent of Acid Rain in that it's a unique story concept and homegrown toy line. 1/18th scale, all female figures. Cool stuff, tons of gear, accessories, etc.
Title: Re: Acid Rain - by Ori Toy

They're their own line, BFS isn't doing them.  They're just selling them as an outlet like anyone else.  I don't know if they're being manufactured in the same factories or not that the two companies are using, but the guy doing the PGV line is wholly his own dude, and is running manufacturing and design as their own entity.  They are only the first in a (hopefully) long broad line of figures.  His designs include mechs, droids, space suited characters...  no vehicles yet as they're quite small, and this guy really seems to want to focus on figures and their accessories, and bringing these out at affordable prices too.  He's kind of miffed US distributors have jacked the MSRP up or aren't willing to work with him directly on distribution (BFS is, however, I believe working with him directly).  Hong Kong and Malaysia sellers are dealing with him directly.  BBTS is bringing them in through a middle-man I believe, and have a jacked up price for that reason ($34/figure).

I'm mulling over my options on getting these right now...  I'm not sure what way I'll be going on them.

There are a few lines out right now all within a similar sci-fi influenced genre.  Acid Rain seemed to be the catalyst for this...  Planet Green Valley is a very high-end looking line, so I can't even bitch at $34 a figure honestly, but there are other lines from companies called Devil Toys and JoyToy and they're ok but not on par with what PGV looks like (just my opinion).  I'll gladly support them though. Their stuff looks cool, just maybe not quite as cool as PGV is right now haha.  It's much more Acid-Rain-ish looking (weathering and such) but the quality is a notch below.  I have some of the Devil Toys figures and they're fragile to say the least.  Hiya-ish in quality which is nice, but delicate.

If youíve seen some of his prototypes of robots and space suited people itís just all epic.

He has posted renders of figures for another toy line kind of a take off on Acid Rain but World War I basically doesnít end and keeps evolving militarily speaking.  Kinda nuts how cool the designs are for that line.  Planet Green Valley looks like itíd translate to Star Wars well if the articulation style doesnít big you mixing.

JoyToyís stuff is like a dream 3.75Ē Titanfall toy line tho so thatís something Iím now strongly debating going in on too.   ::)

Final products have looked great...  guys bitching about the paint jobs not being the same as prototypes but thatís typical with all toylines.  Iím excited for these.  Their droid and spacesuit figures are my true dream figures though.  Canít wait for those.  Iíve skipped the schoolgirl figures for now but May wind up buying at some point.  Thatís a pretty specific Asian culture thing so I donít see how theyíd blend in if I wanted them in a Star Wars dio or something ya know?

Check out the JoyToy guys E.  Holy **** those Titanfall mech tipoffs are a dream come true.  Just make sure you select the 1/18 option at the bottom of the page cuz they do 1/24 that is surprisingly close and tough to distinguish one line from the other.  Their whole thing is Acid Rain meets Titanfall. 😬

I was a little on the fence on the PGV figure until the packaged shots were released and liked the change to the Mind Controller figure better which locked that in as the one I picked up for now.

I've seen the JoyToy stuff and it looks great. The mech suits are where it's at.

There are a lot of companies in the 1:18 market that I could be spending money on but I need to be cutting back, not expanding. The PGV drew me in partially because I'm always looking for more female characters to add to the ranks.

I've put in a couple recent orders with Marauders (on top of having backed the Agency/Contract/Dog/Exo Kickstarter), I'm definitely in on some of the upcoming Boss Fight stuff, the PGV fig... Plus I'm still waiting on the Eagle Force Kickstarter to ship as well as the BFS horses.

So. Much. Stuff.

Yeah seriously...

PGV
JoyToy 1/18 & Vehicles (soon)
DevilToys weird ass Android figures (quality is so so but theyíre nice)
Hiya Aliens 1/18
Hiya Super Heroes 1/18
Hiya Predators galore
Super7 stuff (I donít like all of it but I do like some)
And Acid Rain being produced by two companies now in 1/18
Marauder Inc (WW2 for me but Iím always tempted to dip into modern)
Chicken fried Toys Western figs on the way soon
And... of course 3.75Ē Star Wars.

Sprinkle in my modeling habits which are all 1/18-1/20-ish scaled and yeah thatís a lotta ****.

This is why Iím content if Star Wars permanently canned 3.75Ē stuff.  I know, blasphemy, but I figure customizing g would have a far more defined nature in my hobby habits then too.  Iíd know they werenít going to do something I was thinking of doing.  Always hated that.
