2025 TVC Return to Tatooine Re-Issues
« on: June 6, 2025, 10:42 AM »
According to Jayson, Hasbro will be re-issuing some TVC favorites under the "Return to Tatooine" program - mostly at Target so far:

$16.99 Bom Vimdan -
https://www.target.com/p/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-bom-vimdin/-/A-94609052

$24.99 Gamorrean Guard -
https://www.target.com/p/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-gamorrean-guard/-/A-94459654

$16.99 Bib Fortuna -
https://www.target.com/p/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-bib-fortuna/-/A-94078986

(which is funny because you can still get Bib on Amazon for under $10  :D)

Bom Vimdin is a solid choice for a reissue.

Gamorrean Guard is interesting. He will likely sell well as an army builder, but the $25 price might slow that down.

Bib Fortuna is a bad choice. It should have been Mosep Bineed instead to get him into TVC and further the Cantina releases. It probably has more to do with mold availability than collector concerns.

I was kind of expecting an announcement that Bom Vimdim would be released.  Hasbro has been working their way through re-releases of assorted Cantina aliens, and Bom Vimdim was on that list.  I suspect that we'll probably see a Zutton reissue this year as well.

The Gamorrean Guard re-release is one that I can see the TVC collecting community welcoming.  It's basically an army builder. But I think more than a few people are going to be upset with the deluxe pricing.  It does seem a bit questionable given the fact that the Gamorrean Guard was a mainline figure that was available for the standard TVC figure msrp.  Side note - I'd still like to see Hasbro take on some of the newer Gamorreans - like the pit fighters in TM season 2, or Boba Fett's guards.

Bib Fortuna is a questionable choice on Hasbro's part.  He fits the RTT theme, but is still readily available from the original run that was released in 2021/22.  I wish Hasbro would factor the retail market - both dealers and the secondary market - into their decision making process when choosing some of these re-releases.

Now that TVC is essentially out of all physical retail, this sort of decision makes less than zero sense.  The places that sell TVC (Amazon, EE, Pulse) won't get much traction with this when they already have stock online that isn't selling at a discount.  Whoever is managing TVC should have two calls to make, Amazon and EE, and ask, "can you sell this".  If the answer isn't a resounding yes then move on to your next idea.  They don't even need to do any eBay sleuthing to understand average selling price in the secondary market for this one.

The original release in 2012 was basic MSRP, but the 2019 re-release was a fan channel exclusive that was a couple $2-3 more than the basic price at that time.  At the time, Hasbro blamed the soft goods and size of the figure.  I guess I'm not surprised to see this re-issue at the higher deluxe $25 price because of that.

I ordered all of them just in case the paint is updated... I'll return the Bib and Bom if they're the same.

I also ordered 4 of the Gamorrean Guards... it's steep, but it's at least a figure that feels worth the deluxe price and I've always wanted a few more.

They could easily do a 4-pack of these guys with different axes and slightly different soft goods.  I buy one of these in a heartbeat.

Looks like pre-orders for the Gamorrean Guard have sold out already...  guess the $25 price tag wasn't that big of a hindrance.

They've been going for $50 to $70 on eBay, why wouldn't they sell a ton of them quickly at less than the price of Cobb Vanth.

Busy day at work, and of course, I miss the reveal and the pre-order on the one I wanted. I had three loose from the original run, but after getting the Throne Room and the Barge recently, I wanted a couple more so that I could have a few in each setup, plus a few extra to customize. The $25, while very pricy for a rerelrease, is still FAR cheaper than they were going for on eBay, as Rob noted.

I guess I'll just hope Target messes up these pre-orders (like they do with all of their other pre-orders) and some stores get a bunch of these.

I'm leery about preordering from Target. Including shipping, my total for just Bom Vimdin would be $25.
Don't have any of the TVC Gamorrean Guards in my collection and would love to get 4-5 of them, but missed the boat on this preorder.
I think I'll wait a bit to see if Amazon will carry these. What the heck is with preorders selling out so fast?

I don't mean to be negative. My general reaction to this is good. Just seems a little odd.

EDIT: Ah screw it, who am I kidding. I ordered a Bom Vimdin.
