The real kicker here with all the carrying on from Scott and Zod mainly, is that there are real advantages to every position. The guy with the first pick takes who he thinks is the best player, but always turns out not to be, and then doesn't get any of the next 23 best players in basketball.
The guy who picks last gets 2 of the top 13 players in basketball.
Picking in the middle isn't bad either because you're not at an extreme pole, and don't have to watch 23 of the best players disappear at a time without grabbing one of them.
I have picked at all ends of drafts in the different sports and never finished below 3rd place in any league, and won 2 of them.
