Your Best of 2003
« on: August 20, 2003, 01:23 PM »
Although many of us (myself included) haven't found much of the 2003 product, for those of you who have, or by judging from online pictures..which figures are you happy and/or satisified with from this year so far.  I think the 2003 figures have taken quite a beating (much of it justified IMO), and it hasn't seemed like there have been many figures people are happy about.  I also think that this year has seemed to kill the fun for many completists, and even some Star Wars collectors totally.  I know some figures that I was initially excited about (Throne Room Luke primary among them), I have been disappointed in now reading other reviews and seeing more detailed pictures.  I personally am really looking forward to receiving Hoth Han, the Yoda with Younglings, Pit of Carkoon Boba Fett, and the Snowtrooper when my Kebco order ships...but what are your favorites of this year so far?  From what we have seen 2004 could be a banner year for Star Wars collecting, and a return to the type of figures we have been waiting for (classic trilogy, mix of core and background characters, POTJ style sculpting, more articulation).  I guess my question, if you weren't a completist, or weren't starving for new figures due to the drought, which figures from the year 2003 (so far) would you still have bought?

The best of 2003:
- R4-I9
- R5-D2
- Wat Tambor
- Poggle The Lesser (from the screen scene)
- Carkoon Fett (especially once you replace the missile on his jetpack)
- Anakin Secret Ceremony (despite the fact that he has a skinny arm & robot hand)
- Hoth Han (with his mask on)
- Throne Room Jedi Luke (yes, the head looks kinda bad, but the statuesque pose works for the fig)
- Tusken Raider
- Darth Tyranus Geonosian Escape

The duds of 2003:
- Flying "Happy Meal" R2
- Throne Room Vader
- Treadmill Padme
- Skewered Mace
- Acklay Obi-Wan

Best:
Mynock Hunt Chewie
Coleman Trebor

Honorable Mention:
Han Hoth (points off for the extreme pose)
Throne Room Vader (points off for action feature and bad cape)

Worst:
R2-D2

R2 deserves a ribbon of shame. Worse the POTF2 R5-D4, and a true debacle and monument to the craptasticism of the 02-03 action feature.

So far I have Padme Droid Chase, R2 Droid Flight, Mynock Hunt Chewy and Secret Ceremony Anakin.

Padme is an ok fig, neither best nor worst list material.
Mynock Chewy is a good figure. I like the articulation. Good accessories.
R2 Flight is about par with the 2002 Deluxe Jango (electric sound backpack). That Jango should have been called Deluxe Hoover Jango, thats how much it sucks.
I know some people think Secret Ceramony Anakin is one of the best, for me he's only ok, neither best nor worst. Probably one of the best for likeness. My complaint has to do with the fact that we all know what scene in AOTC its based off of. He should at least be able to be put in a pose that goes with the Wedding Dress Padme (although it is nice in action poses)

Best:

Carkoon Fett
Mynock Chewie (Actually better than the pics)
Hoth Han
Wedding Anakin (Oy.  Why can't I find it?)
Wat Tambor (oy, again.)

Worst:
I really can't say any are terrible, because I am happy to find anything at all, but that At-st driver in the imperial forces pack does nothing for me...

Well, I have virtually nothing from 2003.  So, this is just going by pics that I've seen or my desirabilty of certain figures.

1) Han - Hoth
2) Yoda and Chian
3) Wat Tambor
4) Padawan 2 pack
5) Aayla Secura

I don't have alot of 2003 product either,  but one of the worst figures produced which I do have is the flying R2...  It simply does not fit into the line at all.

One of the best which I do have is Aayla Secura...  Nice figure.  he he he ;D

As I sit in front of my computer,  I'm really excited about alot of the figures I've seen so far.  I'll reserve my list for when I get these figures in my hands.

Well, it took me until mid-July to start finding any "new" 2003 figures, but here is my list (in no particular order):

Aayla Secura (points for articulation, points off for the look of the joints and the magnet sticking out of her hand)
Barriss Offee (even with the extreme pose, the sculpt is awesome)
Han Solo in Hoth Gear (I agree, points off for extreme stance, but then again, now he can sit on the new TaunTaun and Hasbro did listen enough to make 2 coat colors)
Yoda & Chian 2 pack - (Great sculpts)
Ashla & Jempa 2 pack - (Great sculpts)
Coleman Trebor (again, a great sculpt)

I haven't seen these, but I can't wait to on the following:

Screen Scenes:
Poggle the Lesser
Shu Mai
San Hill
Yarael Poof
Yaddle
Oppo Rancisis

I actually liked the "play-ability" of the Mace Windu (Arena Confrontation) figure.  I won't be sticking it in any diorama or even a little scene, but when I get the Genosian Arena out with my son, we play with that Mace figure.

Worst of 2003:

"Flying" R2
re-release of Jango Fett - Kamino Escape (okay, I can buy that some newer collectors don't have the some of the POTF2 figures that they re-released, but these were pegwarmers when they were released last year)

These are the best (of the ones I've actually found)

Boba Fett: Pit of Carkoon
Anakin: Secret Ceremony
Han Hoth
