Well today I went and saw TROY. Based on Homer's Illiad. Not a bad movie for 2 hours and 43 minutes. The fighting is done well. The story is the same old Troy story. Overall I liked it.

The girls will like this... You get some really nice shots of Brad Pit naked.  
and there are some less exposed shots of the women for the guys.    But that is not the reason to go see this movie. The reason is to see the TROY story told again from another directors view. I liked it. Would not buy it on DVD but it is worth seeing at least once.

Orlando Bloom has some of his Legolas moves with the Bow. Go elf go!

Haven't seen it yet, but we definitely plan too.  I always love a grand scale war epic movie, even if it does smack of LOTR quite a lot (it seems).  Plus, the Mrs. is a BIG fan of Brad Pitt, and is most anxious to see him show off his stuff in the buff.

I checked this out on Friday. There's some parts I liked, and a lot of little things that made me cringe.  On the plus side, the battles are fairly grand, and sometimes even clever in how they're presented. Some of the hand-to-hand swordplay is really groovy. What's frustrating is that it lacks a point of view. Even if you disagree with the motives of either side in the 10 year conflict (which is reduced to days in the movie) there isn't a clear protagonist in the movie. A bit of a mixed bag for me, I think. I'd call this a DVD rental.

I don't remember Homer's Iliad describing anyone performing Tekken-style flying leaps to defeat thier enemies. In the movie, Ohio-accented Achilles soars through the air (in slow motion no less) to stab his enemies in the jugular. They gave Brad Pitt a Super Combo Finishing Move.   Like you mentioned, there's also a few too many close calls with viewing of the Pitt's naughties.

Lets see, Brad, Eric and Orlando...hmmm.....I think I'll give the movie two thumbs up just for the drool factor.   I'm sorry my review isn't any better but it's hard to hear much with all the one-liners we were tossing around at each other throughout the movie.  The fight scenes were indeed reminiscent of LOTR and that's a compliment...they were very entertaining to watch.  I'm going back tomorrow night with a friend who missed out on all the fun over the weekend.....I'll try to pay more attention to the rest of the cast this time  .

I saw this movie with my girlfriend. We both agree Brad P. is hot!  

Anyway, good movie - I didn't like alot of the combat scenes, just didn't seem all that choreographed (screw spelling, its 1 am), but instead just seemed kind of... I dunno... the camera was far off and all you saw was a bunch of ant sized people hitting one another, sometimes a splash of blood here and there.

I liked Achilles finishing move.

Needs more female nudity to balance out Pitt's ass, though.

People in the audience I was in were laughing at Brian Cox's overacting of Agamemnon. (sp? Don't care.)

I dug it, though. I might buy the DVD.

This is interesting for anyone who's a soundtrack buff, or those wondering why the soundtrack sounded so... familiar:

Gabriel Yared - TROY's original score composer (rejected)

Gabriel Yared was hired to do the score for Troy, and proceeded to work closely with Wolfgang Peteresen, crafting a unique and appropriate score of epic scale, for over a year-long period. He was abruptly replaced with James Horner after a screening audience felt the score too "old fashioned and classical". Apparently rushed and derivitive is OK with the average movie-goer. Horner's score was written and recorded within a 6 week period of the movie's opening.

If some of you felt the music sounded overly familiar, it's vintage James Horner -- notorious for ripping off his own work. This movie is about the worst from him in years... in my humble opinion, of course... and I like James Horner scores.

Take a listen to the clips on Yared's site and imagine how much it could have helped this movie.
