Sad day for NY baseball fans.  Gary Carter was a great ball player, and he's gone far too young.

My fondest memory of "The Kid"?  I was at a Mets - Expos game around 1988 or so.  We have amazing seats at field level, right behind the backstop.  Gary Carter comes up to the plate, and it's Pasquale Perez on the mound.  Perez throws what may have been the slowest offspeed pitch in the history of Major League Baseball for a strike.  You could literally see Gary Carter SLOWLY following the ball across the plate and into the catcher's mitt.  And even he was laughingand smiling over how slow that pitch was!  At the time I was wondering "why didn't he swing at that pitch?", but in hindsight I can only think of just how much he would've had to change up the timing of his swing to hit a pitch like that.

I'm going to have to Netflix "Head" in memory of him tonight.

Davy Jones dying sucks.  I've always been a pretty big fan of the Monkees.  Several years ago my wife bought me their box CD set.  I remember watching them in the afternoons in the mid 80's, first on some local channel out of Lubbock, TX and then on Nickelodeon.

The Monkees' 20th Anniversary Tour was my first concert ever.  I was ten.  Davy Jones was actually supposed to play here again in a couple of months...I really liked them when I was a dorky little kid, and I guess as a dorky old man, I still kind of do.

I'm a big fan of Mike Nesmith from the classic "Sunset Sam" video they used to air on Night Flight.

I still find it almost too weird to believe that Hendrix actually opened for The Monkees at one point.

I've been a life long fan but never saw them in concert until a few years ago at Disney's California Adventure. It was a blast!

Anybody see the Monkee's movie "Head" ? What did you think of it?

I caught part of the movie once and all I can say was WTF???!!!!  Granted, I came in during the last 20 or 30 minutes of the movie, but it just seemed to me it might be something better viewed during an acid trip.  I'm not going to say if I liked it or not, simply because I didn't see the entire thing and therefore didn't have a good frame of reference for the why the movie seemed so odd.

I found it on Youtube: The Monkees: Head

You can come in at any point in Head and go WTF???!!! Its basically a series of skits with no relation to one another. Its kind of like the one the Beetles made around the same time.

It's definitely on the trippy side.  And an interesting sidenote is that Jack Nicholson was one of the screenwriters for that film.

When they named the movie they were thinking of making a sequal. The tag line for the sequal would have said, "From the people who gave you Head...."   ;D
