:( I saw part of that report already and it makes me glad I'm in the USA and  feel bad that people suffer to make frivilous items for the rest of the world.

The Newt Gingrich comment was unnecessary in the report, though.

I didn't even see this and I read most of the report.  I'll have to look again.

Not looking to make this into the Sarlacc pit at any rate.

Back a few years ago, MisterPL had posted a look at another factory in China at a factory that had done some contract work for many of the major toy manufacturers of the time.  That place was modern and clean, nothing like this...I recently made the decision to more or less scale back on 3-3/4" and this makes me want to stop completely.

I'll try and dig for those old posts...

Here it is

Unfortunately, the pics no longer work.  But like I said, IIRC, that place was a lot nicer than this place.

That is heartbreaking and deplorable, but it speaks more to the culture and leadership of China than it does to any moral failings on Hasbro's part, IMHO. What kind of government allows their people to be exploited in this way?

I did find this part interesting:

Hasbro reported $4 billion in revenue in 2010,
with an operating profit of $587 million.
In 2010, Mr. Brian Golden, Hasbro’s president, paid himself $23.15 million.

Are you kidding me?!?! And you STILL can't afford the tooling to put out more than 19 Clone Wars figures next year?

What, do all these sculpters make 10 million dollars a year each?

Maybe they should move that part of the business offshore too.

FOUR FREAKING BILLION and they can't afford to make me a Duchess Satine or Riff Tamson.  >:(

I guess this is the reason why labor unions were created orginally. They are really needed there. If those people got the treatment they should have, companies would just move the factory someplace else and do the same thing again.

I would like to think that this particular factory is the worst of the worst. I don't pretend to believe that the factories in China are all sunshine and dandelions, but I am disappointed to see such a poor working environment.

Something that should be noted is the extreme bias of the report. I would take everything with a grain of salt. While I don't doubt that some factories in China are as bad as the one in the article, it's pretty clear that the writer(s) doesn't give you the complete picture.

If it made Star Wars figures $4.99 again, I'd be all for it!

That is pretty nuts that basic figures are now heading to $10 each, and that is with overseas factories where the workers get $1-2 per hour or day or whatever it is.

Can you imagine what the price would be on these figures if the factories were in the USA?
