Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Do You Have Pets?
« on: Today at 01:14 AM »
We had to say goodbye to our family dog Duke this past weekend. He was 13, and we were hoping to make it to his 14th birthday in May, or even better, the 14th anniversary of his adoption on July 3rd. But it wasn't meant to be.

He had developed hip problems over the last 2-3 years but he powered through them like a champ. His health really started to decline in late October, as he developed a growth on his back and went blind in his right eye. He was also yelping in pain from time to time, a very uncharacteristic trait. My mom took him to the vet, but the vet just wanted money for X-rays and other unnecessary junk. Around Thanksgiving the growth got bigger, and infected, so my mom took him to a different vet who immediately cut the growth out and confirmed it was cancerous. She gave us some pain pills and Duke was able to have one last Christmas and New Years celebration with the whole family, plus had a gnarly scar to show off. But over the last week he started getting even worse, wandering around, bumping into furniture, unable to be alone. More growths were popping up. Saturday morning he went out in the backyard and collapsed, and my parents made the call to put him to sleep. It was hard to see him those last 3 months, but he powered through it like a trooper, and his pain is finally gone.

He lived a damn good life for a dog... my mom walked him every single morning for about a decade, until he couldn't handle long walks anymore. Plus I walked him every afternoon in high school and when I was home from college, and when I would house sit later on. He had my grandpa's farm to run around on, with a tank to swim in. Plenty of squirrels and rabbits to chase, and he always got the leftover rib bones when we had BBQ.

Here are some pics of Duke on his 13th adoption anniversary last July, and my favorite pic of the two of us circa 2008, the only picture I was able to ever get of him looking directly into the camera.

I like to think he's found some of the other pets from this thread in Doggie Heaven and they're having discussions on their owners' Star Wars collections. :)

Bit late, but congrats to Virex for his win!

And the Switch presales start tomorrow at Nintendo's NYC store (no word on when or if they will be up for preorder at Amazon or Gamestop). It should be a nightmare.

Rogue One Stormtrooper and Tank Driver are now in stock and shipping from the usual import stores.

Behold the beauty that is the new SH Figuarts Stormtrooper

Looks like a decent figure. Hopefully custom paint apps can fix what appears to be a good sculpt, and hopefully the head fits on other Imperial Officer SA figures easily.

I've honestly never gotten the obsession with the Vintage cards. I mean I get WHY they were made, but having the entire Vintage line made them a little less special. But Hasbro thinks that's the only way to sell figures, so whatever.

I can't think of any 3.75 inch figures I really want, especially in 5POA, so I guess I'd like some ANH based 6 inch figures, be it rereleases (Vader, Stormie, Han, etc.) or new stuff (Cantina guys). I'd LOVE some 6 inch figures like Hammerhead and Greedo based on the Vintage figures.

Finally got the Walgreens 3PO tonight. Glad to have that one crossed off.

I'd be more than happy to donate to a GoFundMe or something similar to support the court case.

Caved and bought a TFA 3PO last night. It was the light red arm variant, meaning I'll probably be hunting for the maroon arm variant now. ::)

Finally got ROTJ Boba Fett after a 6 week wait. I shipped it here with the cheapest available option to save $10. Never again.

I've kept most of my stuff carded, but opened this one up. It's such a great figure! I've heard reports of loose joints but everything on mine is great so far. Only "bad" thing is that the wrist ball-joints pop apart easily, but they're also easy to snap back together. ESB Boba is supposed to be an even better figure so maybe I'll get around to opening it some day.

They opened up a Sears Grand store here a little under 10 years ago, but it was this giant store that was a ghost town (and still is). I went there once or twice to snag some of the Kmart exclusives, but they got rid of the toy section in 2012-ish. I was there a few weeks ago to pick up an online order of the exclusive Jyn Erso figure and it looked like a store that had been rampaged in a zombie apocalypse (though still less sad than setting foot inside a Best Buy).

Learning something new every day, though, apparently there is (or was) a Kmart an hour from me. Had I known that, I wouldn't have had to rely on Jesse James for so much Kmart stuff. Also, Lands End is still a thing. I remember that being "the" upscale brand before Gap got popular.

Could it be that the shot was angled due to the debris? The Jedha explosion looked like it went all the way up into the atmosphere, and might have hit the Death Star.

I saw it for a second time a few nights ago (at the IMAX Theater) and I really enjoyed it a lot more on a second viewing. And it's not like I hated it or anything the first time.
