The Black Series 3.75" / Re: The Black Series 3.75" - 2013 Wave 3
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:14 AM »
I have received and opened most of this wave over the past week. I have every figure except for Windu in-hand. Plaguies, Neyo, and Merumeru are all terrific. The sculpts are nicely detailed, the paint apps are pretty well done, and each figure has a perfect complement of accessories. Much to my surprise I found Vizam to be even better than the other three figures. The outfit is very detailed, the head looks perfect, and the paint is outstanding. The only drawback is the blue plastic used for the inner joints. Overall though, Vizam is one of the rare figures that looks like it came right off the screen.

I went outside the 7" scale and placed an order for the 18" Gipsy Danger from TRU.com. I also pre-ordered the upcoming 18" Knifehead. Display space will probably be an issue for these big figures, but I couldn't resist the temptation of having some GIANT figures "fighting" on a shelf.

Totally missed your post McMetal. Negan looks great and it's nice that they are offering another comic character! It's definitely an awesome Black Friday special, but it sucks it isn't more of a deal. I was spoiled by those $10 Series 4 figures this fall. The real killer on the deal might be shipping. I remember back in July when the SDCC Governor was for sale, shipping was only offered $13 or so for a single figure. Hopefully they will have cheaper (or free!) shipping options this time around.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series - 2013 Wave 1

Damn I bought these too soon... I wish they'd put wave 2 up for those prices.  I'm tempted to pick up Maul at $9.99, but I don't want to start doing PT on these... ugh.

Ah just go for it! Maul is a sweet figure, and even if you get sucked in on other Prequel figs they don't have many coming out.

I feel terrible for you guys who have managed to find kick ass troop builder 2-packs for $11 only to discover a slight paint blemish.  Must be rough.  These things are half the price of "real" TBS figures - why don't you just buy two sets to ensure you get a solid paint job and call it a day?  You should be thankful you found these at all considering many of us have never even seen them at retail.

I really appreciate the sympathy. Action figure paint flaws are a tragic issue.  :P

In all seriousness, I probably wouldn't be complaining about sloppy paint if quality issues weren't so prevalent in the Star Wars line this year. I expect the occasional stray mark or sloppy eye, it comes with the territory of mass-produced items. I get annoyed when eyes are painted on foreheads, flesh colored plastic shows on black hats, and white plastic has bits of red/pink dye mixed in. Even bargain-priced toys seem like crap when they look like Tunghori's factory rejects.

If anyone is still thinking about checking these out, or were holding out on wave 1, Amazon has Luke, Maul, and R2 for $10 each right now.

$10 is definitely a great price for these figures, even little R2-D2. If the Sandtrooper drops down to $10 I might do some serious army building.

I have also experienced quite a few quality issues with the Scanning Crew figures, but none of the plastic flashing that you described. Most of my problems are paint related. I got quite a few technicians with black paint from the hat running down onto parts of the face and hair. Another significant issue I had, which affected fewer figures, was paint chipping on the hat. The officers and Stormies had some issues as well (sloppy face paint on the Stormies, sloppy hands on officers) but those flaws weren't as significant as the technicians.

The quality is really a shame too, since last year's sets as well as the Ewok Catapult seem to have had minimal issues all around. Hopefully Hasbro can either step up the quality or change to window packaging for any future releases.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: 16 Most Useless SW Figures
« on: November 19, 2013, 03:33 PM »
I thought that was a "useless" list. Didn't agree much.

The list really stated the obvious but the author's attitude really killed what could have been an amusing article... the guy seems to have some serious disdain for Star Wars fans. Perhaps he never got that Imperial dignitary as a kid, and it caused him to hate Star Wars ever since.

I found Wave 2 at my local Target (in Raleigh NC) this morning. I picked up Pablo, Mara, R2-D2, and the Stormtrooper. I held off on Luminara and the Clone since I plan to order a case for Wave 3, and I have no desire for extras of those two. I also left behind the Wave 1 carry-forwards, which should ensure this particular Target will not restock for another two months.

Just how long could wildlife that dont live in the ground on in the ground survive. Animals would need rest but these walkers never have to stop

I think that wildlife would actually thrive in this type of scenario.  Less roadkill, less human intervention with their habitats, less hunting, etc... and walkers are generally slow and stupid... smaller animals have to be hard for them to catch.  I can't imagine them often being able to catch rabbits, squirrels, etc.

As for the walkers never having to stop, in the comics there is evidence that eventually they "run out of gas."  I'm a bit behind in the comics to see if this was really explained in much detail.

I think the walkers would eventually rot away. I'm guessing the consumption of people and/or animals either slows or completely stops the decomposition process, then the rotting either accelerates or resumes as the walkers go without food.

As for wildlife, I think most animals would adapt to walkers being around. Bears and wolves would likely have no problems taking out walkers, while less violent creatures such as deer would just run from them. The domesticated animals would be easy meals though, like Hershel's cows in Season 2.

Nothing like getting intibated with a used, blood and vomit-encrusted intibator. Good luck, Glenn! (I was seriously worried for him there at one point)

I think Rick and Darryl will be fine. Darryl will be pissed probably yeah, but as much at Carol as Rick i think. He was the one who said he'd put a bolt in the culprit himself after all. I'm much more curious to see what Tyreese's reaction will be. How pissed is he gonna be that they let her go?

RE: scenes from next week - who on Earth could sleep peacefully in a nylon tent in the zombie apocalypse? That's the best you could do for accommodations over the past 6 months? And where are Tweedledee and Tweedeledum?

Did Hershel sterilize the breathing device? I thought I saw him holding a bottle of something to clean it, but it could have just been the device. **** moved fast during that scene!

I can't wait for Rick to tell Daryl the news. The redneck hero is going to be so conflicted. I'm sure he'll feel betrayed that it was his good friend who did the killing (similar to his reaction to Bob with the booze) while being pissed at Rick for banishing Carol immediately.

There's a preview on AMC's website for next week that shows Martinez. I'm guessing Shumpert is around as well, but sleeping peacefully in his zombie-proof tent.

A totally side gripe about the series overall is the mechanical inaccuracies...  I brought it up a little with the battery "luck" and seemingly easy fix there, but gasoline goes bad when it sits and it had sat in that van for some time...  That alone, it can be tough to turn a car over that's sat after 2 years, much less modern ones with fuel injection and stuff.  That's why things like Sea Foam and Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner works...  Bad gas can easily stall any car out.  They have gas to spare at times it seems though too...  Again that seems off.

Bio Diesel I'd buy...  But not all the gas they're coming up with.

The gas thing (and also just overall shelf life of stuff) has bothered me slightly. I think Rick mentioned expiration dates on medications, so at least they haven't ignored that aspect totally. It has been two years or so in story-time, so hopefully the group will have to get more creative. Michonne has the right idea with a horse.

Cool news, I too thought those 2011 vehicles were finished after TRU's two-packs last year. Guess not. Time to hit some discount stores!

This is painful. Very, very painful. Hopefully Hasbro reconsiders the total cancellation of Clone Wars figures one day.

Good call on the Captain Argyus and Blue Guard numbering, Jeff. Argyus didn't cross my mind when I read the name. I tried to remember as much alternate naming as possible from rumor lists and such, which is why I didn't include Red Leader/Cmdr Colt or the Outer Rim/Abreggado set.
