Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Endor Luke
« on: April 5, 2006, 05:05 PM »
I'm not 100% sure, but sadly, I think that both Endor Luke and Endor Vader have been cancelled. Guessing from what I've seen in those collection room photos, he was going to be a repack of Jabba's Palace Luke; not owning one I would've bought him, too.

However, this move may precipate the release of another Luke- you never know. And I have the feeling Vader was maybe going to be 500th Vader again, as the Tatooine Vader already looks to be...

Personally, I hope they make a new one in the VTSC line, but there's nothing to indicate such a thing yet. I'm hoping though, and I think there's a fair amount of demand for a new Death Star/Final Duel Luke. No one likes old "Hulk Smash!" Saga Final Duel Luke.

His articulation isn't awesome, but his legs are pretty good. From what I've seen he is the second nicest Vader around; it's just that Evolutions Vader is a big step ahead.

The only other Vader that really seems to compare is VOTC Vader, and he looks kinda funny to me :P 500th Vader on the other hand is very impressive-looking.

Just opinion. *shrugs*

I wonder if maybe the Target in the city I'm going to is more lax and either accidentally stuck them out, or would get one out if I asked :)

Doubt it, but I'll be trying. ;) I need that Endor Han!

But if they don't come out until May, I guess I can probably still get them then. Just need to make sure I can go out of town if our Wal Mart is too lame to ever bother stocking them...

LOL, tree chopping Luke. Indeed!

I want to see a SA Luke with a good headsculpt- not the VTSC/VOTC one, maybe something more like Dark Jedi Luke or a better-painted Jabba's Palace Luke head- that has removeable soft goods tunic and robe, a removeable, slightly elastic belt- one that could fit under or over the tunic, y'see- and a lightsaber hole with a handle and an activated one, preferably a lightsaber reusing the sculpt of the episode III Obi Wan sabers. And heck, he should have two right hands, too, like 500th Vader; one black gloved, one flesh.

Heck, throw in a poncho and a helmet and you've got a Luke who can do anything he did in Return of the Jedi except pilot an X-Wing. :)

Ahh, I can dream, can't I?

I'll be needing a 3PO or two. :) ROTS C3PO is great and once I have one I'll probably never 'retire' him (that is to say, he'll stay out on display with other figures) but it'll be awesome to have knees that bend too.

I'm a bit disappointed that Luke was nixed- I'm going to hope (no basis for this) that it precipitates a future VTSC Jedi gear/Final Duel outfit Luke :) Riiiiiight.

Yes, Evolutions Vader looks to be the nicest and most articulated. 500th/Saga Vader comes close though.

I saw a review for those Imperial Forces Pack Vaders- "Emporer's Wrath" Vader molded in black plastic. The sculpting looks quite nice, and he'd look good on display I think. The articulation isn't all that exciting but it's okay.

I'm kidn of curious about Death Star Clash or whatever he was Vader- I think it was first in the '02-'04 Saga line? He'd look great battling Obi Wan for an episode IV display. That is, if I had a good Obi Wan... or at least the POTF2 one with the hood up.

Since the previous deal seems to have been negated, I'm still curious to see if anyone has some kind of offer for this Vader. If I don't figure something out in a week or so I might just open him though.

EDIT: Nix all that, looks like ol' Vader is getting traded after all. :)

Awesome, thank you Paul! I might very well be making that custom myself then :)

Our Wal Mart just got in the Coruscant wave (and their first restock of earlier figures and UGHs). But at least they got them in...

I sure hope I don't miss the VTSC though. Need Han! And Scout trooper... and Luke... but Han also. And Luke. VTSC.... brains... mmm...

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: gorilla glue?
« on: April 4, 2006, 08:36 PM »
I haven't used Gorilla Glue personally, but I've heard secondhand accounts I consider trustworthy. Supposedly the stuff sort of expands as it dries a little, like a balloon.

It might work great, but I'd be scared to use it on figures :/ I'm looking for some two-part epoxy for parts on my figures that need to stay glued (for example I'm considering basically swapping neckposts on these two figures and I really need it to stay attached!), and trust superglue for most other things.

I'm going to wait, if possible, to decide exactly what I'm going to do with UGH Vader and my money until Friday... if you're reading this first, DarthSlothus, could you check your private messages?

Thanks for the input though :) I wish I could vac-metallize stuff somehow or that there was a kind of paint that could be bought like that... not only could I redo all my stands but that would be great for droid customs and such. Ah well, wishful thinking.

I'm not sure, but I don't suspect I'm going to keep him; if I did though, would I draw the wrath of thousands by opening him? I'd be very careful with the card and keep it of course, as I've been doing with my new aquisitions for a while. In his case I'd even keep the plastic that holds the figure in place.

For now UGH Vader gets set on a shelf where he can look pretty on his card and he won't get messed up. :) One way or another I definately need to get a better Vader or two than my ROTS Vader, though...

Hmm, I'll think about it then. If I really could get two other figures for it, or maybe a VOTC or something... I might go for that. On the other hand, the stand is pretty cool :)

Is there any chance I could put up a thread in the trading forum seeing what people would offer for one and linking to my WTB list, but if I don't get any offers I like I could then "close" the thread and just keep him and open him?

Err- I'm sorry, I don't mean to annoy but I think a question of mine got lost somewhere. In the photos a pack or two back there's one of a VTSC Han with a Carbonite Han on it- is that a real headswap or superimpose?

If a headswap is easy/possible I'm contemplating trying to do that myself since I have a good/nicely painted Carbonie Han head (his eyes are looking forward and not up, the hair's all good, etc.) I could use; if you repainted VTSC Han's hands and neck he'd look awesome I think, because I really think the Carbonite Han is one of the best likenesses of Harrison Ford that has been produced yet.

Sorry if this post is an annoyance or anything, but I'd really like to know. Thanks :)

Maybe I missed it when I checked just now, but I could've sworn I saw a thread titled "UGH Vader - Why are people paying so much" or something like that.

I hope I don't tee off a bunch of collectors here, but I was in Wal Mart today and thought I'd glance at the SW figures, expecting to see the same stuff hanging there that's been there for two weeks. To my joy, they've restocked, and there were some of these "Ultiamte Galactic Hunt" figures blended in with the others. Among these was a Darth Vader.

I kind of wanted a TSC Vader because, while I intend to buy an Evolutions Anakin set, it's good to have more than one cool Vader for display and after skipping out on many opportunities to do so I don't think I'm actually going to buy a 500th Vader (is it really worth $10 more for the chamber and the extra hand?). So, against my better financial judgement, I decided to pick up a TSC Vader. A quick price check determined that either Wal Mart raised their prices and didn't change what the pegs said, or that UGH figureswere $6.60-something where the normal figures were $5.88. No big deal, and vaguely recalling a mention of it, I decided to buy the UGH Vader instead.

So now that I have him, I'm wondering if he's in-demand to collectors or anything- perhaps I could/should trade/sell him for a tiny bit more and go back and buy the normal Vader and have a little more money/a cheap figure to show for it, or something? Or is he worth no more than a normal figure?

If he's not really in-demand like that or anyhting, I could just open him and keep him as is- I love the vacuum-metallized stand, shiny silver things are pretty :)

Also of note, the not-really-holographic-whatsoever figure is in silver (standard to UGH I'm guessing) and is Palpatine.

So basically, my bottom line question is, is a MOC UGH Vader with Palpatine figurine worth especially more than other new TSC figures, or should I open him and display him and carefully play with him as I would do with any other figures I buy?

All right! I've got my Kit Fisto figure in hand now, so I'm nearly ready to begin.

Toying around with the figure, I discovered I can somewhat easily remove and reinsert the stick that holds Kit's head on. This makes me think perhaps instead of drilling a hole, I could maybe insert the head as-is (less likely, and it would require me to somehow crack the torso because the hole's way too small for the disc of a POTF2 head to fit into)- but on the other hand I could maybe cut off Luke's neckpost and part of Kit's neck post and glue the Luke head onto the Kit post, since the way it's inserted I'm fairly sure it could turn. I should probably use epoxy rather than superglue if I try to do that, and if it doesn't work I've messed up Luke pretty badly and will probably wind up gluing the head in permanently facing forward....

Furthermore, the way I think these ball-joints work, can arms be popped out the same way a neck post could be popped out? That way I should be able to crack the torso, which would be helpful.

Of course, I could try to get a drill and try to attach Luke's head to Kit's peg via drilling a hole in Luke's neck, as suggested; I don't know if this would be more or less likely to work than the cut-and-glue method.

One side issue- I figured out why Kit Fisto has his last name, it seems. The hands aren't really bad or anything, but they're about 1 1/2 times the size of most Saga Collection and ROTS hands. They're slightly bigger than a POTF2 Lando's hands, and slightly smaller than most Vader hands. I think in one sense it could be passable- especially on the right hand which should be painted glossy black because of his glove- but does anyone think this will look ridiculous? I could try to "hand-swap" with another figure if such a thing is possible...

In any case, I need some testors dullcote and some paints, so I'll be trying to get that next weekend when I shop out-of-town.

Which reminds me of a another quesiton: to paint ball-joints and hands, do you typically pop them out, or just try to paint without getting it where you don't want it, or what exactly? Most of Kit's colors could be left alone if they need to be, but I'd love to repaint his robes to this color scheme I've thought up for Luke (kind of a mix of his ROTJ all-black scheme with some Anakin-esque dark browns, with white on the neck), and I really need to paint those hands. Luke can't very well have big green hands, right?

I think I'm a somewhat casual collector- I take any opportunity I get to root through all the figures when i'm at a store that carries one, and tend to see a few I kind of want but don't buy yet because I don't care quite enough to spend the money on it rather than something else (I still don't have an AT-AT driver...), but then I'll buy the ones that I care about most (Carbonite Han, Boussh Leia, still looking for a Boba Fett, etc.) and there's a few I find out about and outright need, and search for ravenously (VTSC Han gets this treatment currently for example).

I tend to do almost as much buying of things I missed in stores off the internet though. I'm still catching up on some POTF2 figures, and while there aren't a ton I want, I only own two POTJ figures! From nearly every set of figures there's some I want and don't have yet *coughcoughMaraJadecough*, and I missed many lines altogether such as the VOTC. So much like how I tend to buy video games, I'm a bit behind rather than "up on the latest."

The Saga Collection hasn't changed this position at all really- if anything it's got me more interested than the ROTS line simply because the line covers all six movies, and tends to put 50% of it's focus on main characters that I'm a lot more likely to want to buy (Nemoidian Warriors and yes, even Clones can be super-articulated and wonderful, but I'm less likely to buy them than a cool but less poseable Han Solo- of course, the ideal for me is super-articulation and good sculpt on a charachter I like, such as VTSC Han :) )

The line's definately not perfect, but they haven't really lost me with it. I'd love to see more in the way of articulation, higher prices suck, etc, but there have been quite a few figures in the line so far I'd call "good" and the potential is there for them to make a lot more stuff that interests me.
