I'm kinda liking the look of that R2-D2 "Droid Attack" figure... at least he's different from the countless other R2's.  I really don't mind scene specific R2 at this point because I have so many of the little guy already...

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Basic Figure Leak: Already?

The way it was described to me was that the regional distribution hubs should have the stuff by the middle of March and then a week before April 2nd (last week of March) the stuff will be distributed to the stores individually.

Guess they must not have meant the Sabers, because they seem to be leaking out all over the place... 'scum is reporting ANOTHER early leak:

http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2005/lightsaber1.jpg

This time it is the RotS packaging sabers that were found, not just the OTC version w/DVD.   :o  Found at a K-Mart, $21.99 each.

there is much less effort by Hasbro, LucasArts etc. to police stuff up here.

That's the key isn't it.  I don't understand WHY Wal-Mart or Target doesn't just put them out when they get them, after all what is LFL going to do?

I can't see LFL telling the #1 retailer of Toys they can't sell their products?  That's like a death sentence for the line in general (outside of collectors who would just move to Target or TRU).  Especially if Wal-Mart decided to take it out on Hasbro and not sell any of their products at all, a move like that could cripple Hasbro.

LFL can't really do anything.  There is no "next movie" to threaten them with (like there was for Ep1 or Ep2) and they all know it.  Unless there was some kind of specific agreement signed, I have to imagine that leaks will get more and more frequent as we approach April...

Gentle Giant / Re: Gentle Giant Busts

I'm hoping I've got a Han bust waiting at home for me tonight as well...

So, looks like it's time for Round 3 on the Gold/Chrome Sandtrooper:

Do I hear $3K?!   :-X

Looks like that last one didn't sell at $3k and he hasn't re-listed it yet.  Apparently there is only one dumb-ass out there willing to pay thousands for this bust...  ::)

I think they kinda cheaped out on the Grievous figure here with the paint details... but I guess that's to be expected in a pack in figure.   ::)

And fine with me, because as others have pointed out, we are already getting Preview Grievous, III-09 Grievous, III-36 Cloaked Grievous, DLX Lightsaber Attack Grievous, etc - plenty of "good" Generals to go around.

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NHL Offseason

From the NHL:

"After rejecting our Compromise Proposal yesterday [Wednesday] afternoon -- a proposal that envisioned opening the season utilizing the NHLPA's own proposed economic framework -- the Union asked that we remain in Toronto for further discussions. This morning [Thursday], we convened at 11:00 a.m., joined by our respective outside counsel Bob Batterman and John McCambridge. We met with the Union for a total of four hours, two-and-a-half of which was spent in caucus. The Union brought nothing new to the table, and they simply covered ground we had covered numerous times before. No new meetings are scheduled and, as far as we are concerned, none are expected. If there are no further developments, the League will make a formal announcement on the status of the season in the near future."

Yet again, the owners are blaming the players, basically saying they (the owners) agreed to start the season using the players CBA pitch, but reserving the right to switch the CBA to the cap at the drop of a hat if economics dictate it as Brent indicated.  ::)

I get the feeling this talk will be done for the year (one way or another) by mid-next week...

I think it's safe to say, Scott will still be around... just not in an official Uber-Mod sort of way and probably not as often as he is now.

Besides, we know he's going to for sure keep him posting in the MN Reports section - after all if he sees something and doesn't buy it, it's his duty to let us know so we can buy it and save him the tempation of buying it later.   ;)

I see that now RS is reporting that someone found some some lightsabers CLEARLY marked "ON SHELF NO EARLIER THAN April 2, 2005" at Wal-Mart.

Guess that's ANOTHER sign that the April 2nd stuff IS in fact already shipping to stores, and may well be in the back room of your local Wal-Mart or Target, silently taunting you.   :P

And yes, these are just isolated incidents for now, but I won't be surprised if they become more and more common as some of the stores "accidentally" leak product to beat each other to the punch.

Why wait for April 2nd and the level playing field if you can leak the stuff early and beat your competitors to the punch and sell it before them?   :-\

Thanks for the info darksith and Jared!  Interesting to note that at least Hasbro made a small effort to restore the droid socket technology of the 80s.   ;)

Let us know how the "droid chop" goes Jared, I have a spare '95 R2 I could use to dress up my Jedi Starfighter (when I find the dang thing that is  >:().

Revenge of the Sith / Toy Fair 2005
« on: February 11, 2005, 10:00 AM »
Well gang, Toy Fair 2005 is just around the corner...

Hasbro has plans to be there and they should have a good amount of new Episode 3 product to show off (although we've seen a fair bit already).  By this time next weekend, the details may already be rolling in!   :)

Anyone hoping to see anything in particular from Episode 3 at Toy Fair?

Anyone Have any comments to pass along to Hasbro?

Wow, so many images all leaking so soon.   :)

Looking at the GH pictures, I am more inclined to believe that the "loose" figures are all painted hard-copys.  I think that is why they look so nice.

In each picture, the carded figure has something that is a bit different - less paint deco, less detail, etc.  For example, on both Luminara and Shaak, the detail on the dresses is NOT the same between the carded figure and the loose one.  Same goes with many of the other figures - slight changes in the soft goods, slight changes in the paint apps, etc.

So, I am trying not to get TOO excited, less I suffer disappointment when the actual figure looks worse in my hand.  Hopefully though, the figures will turn out as great as they look, but we all know the Hasbro disclaimer, "actual product may vary".   :-\

Either way, it should be a fun Toy Fair when we see more stuff, and it's definately making for a long wait until April 2nd!  Ah well, gives me 2 months to save up the moolah for all those figures...

OK, I was looking over the GH pictures again...

Is it my imagination or does Mas Amedda have a pack-in Tongue?

Mas Amedda

See on his face, he has two "holes" like our pal Dannikk Jerriko:

And, I see what looks like a tongue in the bubble of his carded figure, just above the horns of the die cut insert:

Forgive me if this was common knowledge, just found it interesting that Dannik's tentacle boogers were an Ep3 precursor...

Uh, dumb question time.  What's the point of a pauldron, functionally speaking?  I'm sure there is one, aside from rank designation, but I have no clue what it might be.

I think I'll be buying every AT-TE driver I see.  That should more than make up for any other figures I pass on while waiting for clearance prices ::) :'(

My "favorite" part will be next June when all of us are desperately crying out for help with the AT-TE Gunner because our local stores are CLOGGED with April 2nd figures... pegs and pegs of Mon Mothma, Grieveous Body Guard, SBD, Bail Organa, etc.

Those middle waves are sometimes tricky to find because of the initial glut of product clogging the shelves, so the AT-TE Gunner cases will rot in the back waiting and waiting to be stocked...  :'(

My wife likes to joke that the Emperor must have a very big case of male envy...

Especially when you add in these EU stories about Suncrushers and such.  All the Empire wanted to do was build them superweapons, "larger, firmer, longer".

I never did understand why they built a second DS after the rebels blew up the first one, it did seem like a waste.  I agree that there were a number of settings that would have made sense, but maybe Lucas just liked the idea of Big Balls in space?

I still think the league is going to end up contracting, probaby down to around 20-23 teams at best.  Who will go is open to speculation, but I think there'll be some surprises as well.

I still can't believe in all the negotiating that this hasn't really come up.  Do the owners think they can slip it by the players once things get rolling again and the players won't object to losing jobs?

Even if they get this CBA deal done, the Contraction will be the next big issue, because like you Brent, I think they REALLY need to contract a few teams, at least 4 need to go, but probably more like 6 should go...
