The Legacy Collection '08-'10 / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: September 8, 2008, 11:14 AM »
That's a pretty neat variation/upgrade in the figure. Wish I had waited to get the new version.

Between this and the Luke/Han Comic Stormtrooper deco changes last year...and the Mara Jade neck fix...I'm starting to get the feeling it's better to wait out the first release of a comic pack I want.

Case in point, I have been drooling over the chance to buy Talon Karrde and Admiral Thrawn since the set was announced. With the recent news that Thrawn's sculpted gloves are painted to match his flesh tone, I was slightly bummed. So do I pass this set up in the hopes that the problem gets fixed in a revision case later on, or grab it when I see it like I know I will be compelled to?

The Legacy Collection '08-'10 / Re: 2008 Evolutions Sets
« on: September 8, 2008, 11:08 AM »
I am yet to see the Rebel Pilots II set, but the Imperial Pilots set is almost a shelfwarmer around here. I haven't picked it up yet because other than the ROTS guy, the set really doesn't interest me at all.

Same here, except I would only be interested in the EU Biggs.

(Okay, anybody want the AOTC Pilot so we can divvy this set up?)

I have passed on the Rebel Pilots I set everytime, just because I really don't like the looks of that ugly Ten Nunb...he's way too tall, his head always seems to be painted horribly, and of course he is in the wrong color flight suit. I wouldn't mind the Dorovio Bold figure, and I actively want the Wes Janson figure, but I'm having trouble justifying the 20 bucks for one-and-a-half figures.

Muftak's Legacy purchase #2--Millenium Falcon last night. Woo hoo!

I bought the Falcon last night at the urging of my wife, who was tired of hearing me talk about getting it. Now she's gonna get tired of hearing it, instead. :D

TV-9D9 / Re: Animated OT-Era Show: Would You Like To See It?
« on: September 3, 2008, 11:51 AM »
I'd love to see a show that covers adventures between Eps IV and V. Luke the novice Jedi, Han the reluctant rebel, Leia being used as a symbol for the Alliance now that Alderaan is gone. Wedge the everyman. Vader hunting, always hunting. Maybe an episode about Lando winning Cloud City.

Basically, stories like the old Marvel series, but with the 20/20 hindsight of knowing exactly where we are going.

After seeing the Clone Wars movie and thinking how neat an experience that was, the only down side that came to mind was how much more I (and presumably the general public as well) would have enjoyed a "classic" Star Wars, Luke-and-Han story, since we're adding on outside of the Saga itself now. Who knows, maybe someday we can have such an animated movie and show, once the infrastructure is built.

I get the site just fine on my ****** old computer running Explorer...

The Legacy Collection '08-'10 / Re: Vehicles: Do You Buy Them?
« on: September 2, 2008, 05:15 PM »
The short answer: mostly no.

The long answer: I collect OT above all, and I have grown bored with reissues of vintage sculpts. I bought the original POTF2 offerings of all the vehicles (except the Falcon and the X-Wing, both of which had aged too badly for my tastes), and only broke my streak when the Target exclusive Skiff and Y-Wing were impossible to find in my area. I did eventually get both via eBay, but right around them I stopped having an active display area, and buying vehicles became too much work/not enough fun.

In the post '99 era, I have bought very few vehicles, namely: Saga Dagobah X-Wing, Saga Landspeeder, Saga TIE Bomber, Saga2 Imperial Shuttle (was actually a gift), the OTC Y-Wing, and lastly the Legacy Falcon.

Get the DCPI and we can all bug our local Targets to bring something else other than Star Wars toys out of the back room!

Congrats Mike, it looks like fun!

Any idea as to why there is a leg hole on the bottom half of the astro droids?  Is that for a really tall astro? Or a 4 legged astro?  Or is there some other add on piece or an old mold thing?  Just curious if anyone has any ideas.

I think the consensus is tthey were designed with an extra hole on purpose to add a little flexibility and "playability" to the Droid Factory droids. Adam Pawlus had pics up of a Frankendroid he assembled out of Astro and C-3PX parts...basically you can build your own droid with astro legs in the bottom holes and protocol arms in the top.

I'm not gonna get much of anything out of waves 1-4, so I'm probably going to wind up with my own funky Frankendroids.

And I really hope Hasbro carries the same peg size forward on any newly sculpted droids (like the new WED droid next year) so the parts can swap out for all sorts of fun.

Well of the Souls / Re: Is the line a Success?

The silver linging of the continued presence of Idol Indy is that perhaps he is being painted better now?

I haven't picked up any Indy figures yet, and my collection is likely to only contain an Idol Indy, Henry, and Short Round. I have passed on every Idol Indy I've seen (and yet dutifully look every time I happen to see one in the wild) because of those hideous eye paint jobs.

This should be a revision case, though, not the launch case of a new wave. I feel bad for the die-hard Indy collectors.

Fifty bucks was what we've all been going by, but the speculation about the Target UBPs being sixty here in the Clone Wars UBP thread really puts that up for debate.

It's sad because, ugly pack-in figures or not, I would have been all over this thing three years ago. Now I think it is a nice idea, but far too little too late. Last year I made a decision of how I would display my collection, and this just doesn't fit my plans at all.

Maybe in a few years when I upgrade to a real collection room I can pick up one of these off of eBay/trading on the cheap. Til then, I'm not gonna miss it.

There was some point when the EU said Yularen was a Grand Admiral though, wasn't there? And that was why he wore a white outfit? If they go back to that story instead of a Colonel in the ISP, then everything is right with the world again...(including why the figure has white pants instead of the black ISP pants.)

I guess if its going to be animated anyways, I prefer things like Pixar's stuff (Incredibles, Nemo, etc.) that looks "cartoony" instead of the Final Fantasy type animated stuff.  For some reason, that stuff has always sort of creeped me out.

That phenomenon is called the uncanny valley. I have been fascinated by it for a few years myself.

I'm genuinely surprised at the negative reactions. Then again, I've been watching the 20th anniversary edition of the Transformers Movie cartoon recently and enjoying every second of it...so I know my taste goes more towards the cheesy and low-tech.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Yavin IV Shelf
« on: August 17, 2008, 10:47 AM »
Thanks Matt. Everything has been settled down for the summer, so hopefully the drama is behind us.

I finished up the first of my "second-tier" displays this weekend, a home for my Yavin IV figures.

I was excited to do the Death Star plans scene because it was the first scene I thought of when I decided to do these shelves. Somehow that wall was iconic Star Wars backdrop for me. The screen is a custom-made image.

The medal scene was pretty obvious as far as what I needed to have here, too. I plotted the spacing on the essential characters that go here...and cheated size on the steps. The middle one is just wide enough for Luke and Han to stand on, the rest are way too skinny to be used.

For the last third of the thing, I left a pretty open area. Soon it will probalby be where the transport sled is parked (I can't wait!) but for now I made a tactical table to fill it, just for the fun of it. It's underscaled to fit, but I had a lot of fun making the screen.

AS I said, this is a second-tier, so it's a lot more shallow overall. It is designed to sit on top of the Home I shelf I already built. I think they work well together.

That's it for now. More to come soon.

Thanks for looking!
