The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Basic Figure Line
« on: March 5, 2010, 09:00 PM »
All I know about the 2011 (!) ANH wave, is that if Hasbro is wise to collectors' desires and is aware of nostalgia as a something that will get poeple to spend, they will put a Grand Moff Tarkin, Rebel Fleet Trooper, and Sandtrooper in that wave on great new/retro cards.  As a child who collected from 1978 to 1985, those were the three figures that we desired more than any others.

Second that, my good man! The only other figures that came close for me were Biggs and Wedge.

I really hope the ANH wave is a big honkin' wave like the ESB wave previewed. And I hope the prequel waves are limited to 3-4 "key" figures that make sense on Vintage cards. Figures wth "ties" to the OT, if you will, like Anakin and Obi-Wan. Though I'm sure everyone is tired of those guys on the shelves.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: TRU Exclusive Nikto Guard?

So, hypothetically of course, can you buy 3 Niktos and get a free Nikto during the promotion? That's 30 bucks for four figures. Nope, I guess that still doesn't sound like a deal.

I imagine they're including Boba Fett, 4-LOM, & the "fixed" Vader as Greatest Hits so far, and we're not getting an ANH wave this year, so that limits it to seven figures from AOTC, ROTS, and ROTJ.

It would be a cop out for them to repack one of the "new" Ewoks. But I can totally see them rereleasing the new Slave Leia. Can't really see them using any more of the Legacy ROTJ figures, though. Maybe somebody kinda old like J'Quille or Tanus Spijek. Heck, my dream ROTJ repack would be Bubo (even without a Jawa handler, though they should both fit in a vintage bubble).

When they get around to some ANH figures, I wouldn't be surprised to see them trot out Captain Antilles again. Didn't they recently say how good the sculpt holds up on him specifically? I'd like to see a few out of date repacks there too, like the big R1 droid and the Yavin Honor Guard.

Of course, they can always wedge Wedge in to any of the OT waves.

Any updates on this wave still being in the pipeline? Any recent sigtings of more of these? I saw pretty much everything last year at least once save for this wave...and I wouldn't have thought to look for it if I hadn't seen repacks of Han R2 and the Stormie.

Reading about this wave being found in BOGO packs disturbs me. Hasbro was clearing out their inventory with those but that doesn't mean this wave is all gone now does it?

The way I take what I've read latey (been out of the loop) there ought to be stuff that shipped to the stores and is stll sitting in the warehouses, being bypassed by the "fasttracked" later waves that would have been stuck even further back in the pipeline.

It would be nice to know if they are still making their way out to retail. Are the stores planning on selling us something until Vintage starts?

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Recent Clone Wars Finds/Purchases

Picked up a Thi-Sen at Wal*Mart today. Not a Clone Wars collector (only have a handful of impulse figures so far) but what can I say? I couldn't resist a good Talz figure, and that "Trespass" episode was the best one so far IMHAHO.

Also saw the Anakin and Desert Skiff set and felt a real twinge of POTF2 nostalgia. If only Buff Luke could've had those cool goggles.

« on: February 22, 2010, 09:22 PM »
I'll be in on parts of this wave...Dack for sure, my Hoth Rogue Squadron is getting nice and dense with a couple different sculpts which all ought to compliment each other very well.

Hoth Leia is very likely. Bespin Luke I will have to see in person to decide.

ATAT Commander will help me solve the dilemma of where to display Veers...he's on Hoth now but buying this new one would free him up for the Star Destroyer Bridge.

Cloud Car Pilot I am leaving entirely to fate. He is one of my absolute favorite Vintage figures, such an oddball, but I have a handful of the OTC version. Still, this is a different guy with a very 80s 'stache, so maybe...

Dengar, 4-LOM, Han, Vader, Boba, and (especially) 3P0 are all definite passes though. Nice to see a new ESB Han, though.

So a possible 5 figures out of 11...not bad. Looking forward to it.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Drop in Collector Interest/Figures?
« on: February 16, 2010, 10:47 PM »
Thanks, CHEWIE.

Far from being unhappy with the recent offerings from Habro, I have actually really enjoyed seeing the stuff, especially since I have divorced myself from the theory that liking it means I ought to take it home. If everyone took that philosophy, the line would surely die, but as it is I get to enjoy the new stuff for the novelty.

As far as what I'm looking for, it's just odds and ends to fill the gaps in the OT stuff...guys like Bom Vimdin and Grizz Frix. Serious upgrades I'm looking for are sparse, Nien Nunb and Uncle Owen pop to mind immediately. And then there are my pet EU wants, chief among them Heir to the empire characters and Splinter of the Mind's Eye figures.

To address your hypothetical directly I have the ROTS Tarkin repaint from the Imperial Briefing set and I am satisfied with that. I just can't justify buying these incremental upgrades anymore. I was happy to see new Ugnaughts and a good articualted Death Star Escape Han Solo, but I don't feel the need to replace the ones I've got at this point. Upgrades are really a case by case situation for me then. I've taken the upgrade ride for way too many years to get all that excited about them anymore, especially since I broke out of the Collector mindset.

And, on a tangential note, one of the figures I have on my list is Medical Frigate Luke...yet when I saw what Habro offered in that regard last spring I deemed it a subpar attempt (blame the too puffy soft goods, I guess) and passed it up, preferring to not replace the custom version I made years ago.

I certainly don't expect Hasbro to limit what they make to what I want to fill out my collection. I scratch my head at some of the decisions (The B-Wing Nien Nunb and upgraded Malkili, for example) but on the whole I am very happy with where my collecting has left me.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Drop in Collector Interest/Figures?

Hi guys. I'm not new here, but it sure may seem that way.

When you talk about collectors whose interest has dropped, you are referring to me. I collected Star Wars as a kid back in the early 80s right up till the bitter end of the original Power of the Force. I jumped right back in in '95. I bought everything up until the prequels started coming out, and then started to pick and choose, while maintaining an OT interest that precluded me passing any of that stuff up. I have fond memories of POTJ and even fonder of OTC in '04. Looking back on it, I didn't buy much of that year's offerings, but it was a joy to see the stuff at the store.

I took off most of '05 due to disinterest in the ROTS line, although some stuff like Tarkin and 3P0 kept me checking the pegs. I bought a few Wookiees to use as placeholders for the Thrawn trilogy characters I have longed for.

'06 was fun, the new Saga was made a lot more interesting to me because I avoided the forums and the websites and stumbled on figures for the first time at the store like I had as a kid. I'll never forget seeing Foul Moudama at the store...a Talz at retail!!!

By '07 I came back to the web and followed the 30AC from here, never getting too involved and happily finding everything I wanted. It was around this time that I had my collector epiphany: Hasbro was never going to stop making figures, and didn't seem about to slow down either. I didn't want everything they made, but I was still emotionally invested in every new wave and wanted to support the line. JACKOFTRADZE called it an abusive relationship and he's right: we just keep on playing the role of codependent. To make sense of it all I made a Master List of all the figures I ever wanted, figuring that in due time Hasbro will make all of them (plus a whole lot more that I could remain emotionally disinterested in.) This did wonders for my collector angst, and help me really focus in on what my collection was to me.

'08 Found me watching the Legacy line's arrival with trepidation. There was pretty much nothing announced that fit my new criteria (except the impressive Falcon) and I had to settle for the thought of having the year off. Once the stuff started hitting I really lost interest with keeping up with the updates and basically bailed. I blamed a lot of my disappointment on having gotten so involved here again, and having spoiled the new figure finds. So I stopped paying so much attention. I knew up through the Tatooine wave of earlier this year, and after that and the Yavin Battle Pack I was happy as "done until I see something still on my Master List."

The past few months have shown me some Empire figures I resisted except for Needa (from the List!) and just a couple weeks ago a Snowspeeder Luke. The master list is holding at 30 or so strong. I still look in the toy aisles, and checking out the Toy Fair coverage here I like the looks of the new stuff I saw even if I know I won't buy any of it except Dack.

In short, I still feel like a collector (little c for sure) but one who has gotten little support from Hasbro these past few years. I can't justify buying the same things again (Legends) or the new cartoon toys (since that's a separate entity to me), I no longer get even a few of the prequel figures, and the OT stuff I "need" is not lining up very well with what Hasbro is producing. In effect, I am what is killing the line. Sorry.

After a lull of several months (not to mention a year or so break from the boards here!) I bought my first figure in quite a while...the new Snowspeeder Luke.

I haven't taken him out of the package yet, and I have this strange guilty feeling that I ought to actually return it. Time will tell, he is one of the figures missing from my refocused collection, but are my collecting days over for real?

TV-9D9 / Re: Animated OT-Era Show: Would You Like To See It?
« on: September 13, 2008, 09:50 AM »
I myself would be much more interested in a series simply called "Star Wars" than a "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron" series, but stick it in the timeline between ANH and ESB and that gives plenty of opportunity for Rogue-centered stories, as Luke and Wedge were the leaders of the group at the time. Just let's not make it a show about Janson, Hobbie, and Zev from the get-go.

The show absolutely would have to get into minor characters to make it work in the long run, but the whole appeal to me of an OT-era show is the original heroes in further adventures, something that (other than the Marvel comics) has been sorely overlooked in the EU. And I know kids would eat up more of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie. It almost writes itself.

I also would be disappointed to see a "Shadows of the Empire" series, as that would discount Han Solo from the mix, and pretty much that whole story-arc has already been told.

Modern Classifieds / Evolutions ROTS Pilot up for grabs
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:27 PM »
Here's the deal:

Myself and DoctorPadawan are interested in splitting an evolutions imperial pilots set. It would be great if we could find a taker for the ROTS pilot, as neither of us needs him. I'm asking for 7 bucks to cover the cost of the figure, and I'll take care fo the rest.

PM me if you're interested, and first come, first seve.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: September 8, 2008, 11:14 AM »
That's a pretty neat variation/upgrade in the figure. Wish I had waited to get the new version.

Between this and the Luke/Han Comic Stormtrooper deco changes last year...and the Mara Jade neck fix...I'm starting to get the feeling it's better to wait out the first release of a comic pack I want.

Case in point, I have been drooling over the chance to buy Talon Karrde and Admiral Thrawn since the set was announced. With the recent news that Thrawn's sculpted gloves are painted to match his flesh tone, I was slightly bummed. So do I pass this set up in the hopes that the problem gets fixed in a revision case later on, or grab it when I see it like I know I will be compelled to?

The Legacy Collection / Re: 2008 Evolutions Sets
« on: September 8, 2008, 11:08 AM »
I am yet to see the Rebel Pilots II set, but the Imperial Pilots set is almost a shelfwarmer around here. I haven't picked it up yet because other than the ROTS guy, the set really doesn't interest me at all.

Same here, except I would only be interested in the EU Biggs.

(Okay, anybody want the AOTC Pilot so we can divvy this set up?)

I have passed on the Rebel Pilots I set everytime, just because I really don't like the looks of that ugly Ten Nunb...he's way too tall, his head always seems to be painted horribly, and of course he is in the wrong color flight suit. I wouldn't mind the Dorovio Bold figure, and I actively want the Wes Janson figure, but I'm having trouble justifying the 20 bucks for one-and-a-half figures.
