Watto's Junk Yard / Guardians of the Galaxy
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:14 PM »
Marvel's other 2014 movie: Guardians of the Galaxy, sounds like it is confirmed (and will be announced at SDCC):

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=62584

They also have Cap coming in March of that year, and the Amazing Spidey 2 (from Sony) also from the Marvel character stable.  I never thought this was a property that would see a summer blockbuster movie :).

I know this is a long shot, since everyone is looking for this, but I thought I'd give it a try.  Our local stores don't carry these (aside from one that is about a half hour from our house, so I don't get there often), and if anyone happens to see these locally and would be willing to help me out, that would be great.  I'm looking for the same three that everyone is I'm sure:

Hulk - pending
Hawkeye
Loki - pending

If anyone happens to see extras or aren't interested in these, please let me know.  Thanks so much.

Collector's Tips / Display Cases
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:10 PM »
I heard about this on SW Action News this week, and although I can't afford them (pricey!), they sure do look amazing:

http://figuredisplay.com/

If you scroll down and look through them, you can see some really nice ones.  I like the ones resembling the "yellow background" of the vintage cardback backs, as well as the more intricate one with individual backdrops/names for each of the vintage figures.  If I could afford these, I'd be all over those.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Star Wars: Scoundrels
« on: March 22, 2012, 08:48 PM »
Just saw this on EW.com - sounds like it is Timothy Zahn's next SW novel, hitting about Christmas of this year:

I haven't really read any EU for awhile now, but I'm definitely interested in this book.

The Vintage Collection / The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: March 5, 2012, 09:21 PM »
I know we've had a topic like this here before, but with all the chatter lately (pre and post Toy Fair) regarding some recent decisions with the line, I thought it might be a good topic to bring up again.  We've seen a lot of frustration with things like the slow demise of the CW line, the constant repacks in the Movie Heroes/Vehicles/etc. areas, the rising prices, and of course distribution issues.  I also feel that the newly reveals battle packs (Naboo and Bespin) helps to add more fuel to the fire as to the future of the SW line(s).

Do you feel that the BPs are a "test" for a change in the regular figure lines, or something much less - just a different direction for BPs or maybe even a one wave deal.  I mentioned it in the BPs thread, but maybe this is a different way for them to do the "Movie Heroes" line in the future - as I could see these being good figures for kiddos.  I know when playing SW with our daughter lately, I can appreciate figures that are sturdy, can stand, hold their accessories, and fit in ships (although more recent TVC figures can do all that and more too).

The BPs seem to be just one of the various strange decisions with the Star Wars lines lately.  The TPM 3D "launch" seems to be pretty stale, at least around here.  The new Vintage wave moves fairly steadily, but everything else (Movie Heroes, Clone Wars, Vehicles of all sizes) seem to be collecting a lot of dust at the moment.  Although AOTC 3D hasn't even been officially announced yet, you have to guess that we'll be seeing more of this type of approach next year (and in the years after) unless Hasbro adjusts their strategy.

I also wonder how this year's "big" vehicle (the MTT) will end up doing with the Fall launch.  The price is higher, interest largely seems to be lower, and I wonder if there will be much parent/kid push at all for this.  Even the new Naboo starfighter will be out months after the movie release (if at all, with all the vehicle repacks lingering on shelves).  We haven't seen quite as much in the way of exclusives (which is good in some ways, bad in others), and the ones we have seen have largely been straight repacks as well (after having years of all new beasts and vehicles as exclusives).

All this, plus the rumors that the Vintage Collection may go on hiatus starting in 2013, create a little more of a murky future for SW in the coming years than we've seen in awhile.  We hear about CW ratings declining, the ho-hum box office of TPM 3D, and more things out there grabbing people's attention.  What do you think the future of SW collecting holds?  Is it truly a time where we're starting to see the light at the end in some ways, or another example of the "doom and gloom" we see every few years with the line.  I do feel that the Vintage Collection continues to put out top notch figures, even if the price stings a bit.  I've often been a supporter of a more simplified (and scaled back) approach for Star Wars (one line, 40-50 figures a year) - but with Clone Wars and now movie re-releases out there, I can see why we don't see that.  Prices don't seem to be going down anytime soon, unless these new BP figures are an example of what it would take to bring them down (not guaranteeing there would be a price change there anyways).  Just a lot of questions surrounding the line right now - and I'm curious to see where things are headed.

Star Wars Universe / Rejected Star Wars Promos/Ideas
« on: February 28, 2012, 02:16 PM »
Just saw this article over at Action Figure Insider showing some rejected ideas for promos that happened around the time of TPM - some of them are pretty neat:

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / The Future of the Clone Wars Toy Line?
« on: February 13, 2012, 08:54 PM »
I was just reading through one of the reports at JTA, and it sounds like the overall feeling from Hasbro is that the Clone Wars line will continue to see about 20 figures a year through the duration of the 3D releases.  They mentioned it being considered more of a "sub line" now, and they would be very careful about what characters were included.  They did admit to a dip in the ratings of the show (although I think I've enjoyed this season much more than last year).  I'd be curious if the show would even be on the air (new episodes at least) for another 6 years, that's a long time for a cartoon these days.  I think usually once they hit the 52 number, they often wrap things up (or change the name), although there are exceptions.  Anyways, sounds like CW will be run very similar to the way things are this year - barring a disaster with the 3D releases I guess.

Other Toy Lines / NECA's E.T. the Extra Terrestrial Figures

This might be old news, but I just saw this today:

A new line of E.T. figures, which is supposed to hit sometime in March.  They don't look too bad.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Clone Wars - Best of 2011
« on: December 20, 2011, 08:58 PM »
That time of year again, just curious what everyone enjoyed the most from the 2011 CW line.  It seems like this line has really come into its own lately, and its too bad it is getting so little attention in 2012.  I can't remember exactly what wave kicked off the year, but looking at the "Shadows of the Dark Side" packaging change, here's some of my favorites since then:

Pre Vizla
Aurra Sing
Embo
Flamethrower Clonetrooper
Boba Fett
Shaak Ti
Mando Warrior
Seripas
Chewbacca
Savage Oppress (Armored)

I don't think I really picked up many (any?) of the vehicles this year, at least not for some time.  I did get the deluxe set Y-Wing Bomber thing, which was pretty neat.

The Vintage Collection / 2011 "Best Of" The Vintage Collection
« on: December 20, 2011, 08:47 PM »
I figured it was about that time again, always fun to read what everyone enjoyed the most from the past year.  A lot of good stuff from the vintage collection - from basic figures to new or updated beasts/vehicles.  I have to go back and look at the list to remember everything that came out this year, lots of nice stuff.

Hall of Justice / DC Universe All-Stars
« on: November 7, 2011, 08:56 PM »
Looks like this is the name of the "post DCUC" 6" line coming from Mattel.  Matty posted news on their site showing the first wave:

They show Larfleeze, Flashpoint Plastic Man, Superboy Prime, and Batman Beyond.

Modern Classifieds / WTB: DCUC Starfire
« on: September 28, 2011, 12:00 PM »
Not sure if anyone here has one that they are looking to get rid of, but I'm looking for a loose DCUC Starfire figure for our daughter.  I know it came in the somewhat rare Matty 2-Pack (with Adam Strange), so it might not be real likely anyone has an extra, but just thought I'd ask.  Thanks!

Watto's Junk Yard / Shatner: Star Trek vs. Star Wars
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:35 AM »
I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it belongs somewhere other than its own thread I'm sorry.  Just saw this video this morning, with William Shatner comparing Star Trek and Star Wars:

Other Collectibles / Star Wars Trading Cards
« on: September 7, 2011, 09:05 PM »
I guess this could cover any number of card sets/series through the years (I'm sure there is even something going currently that I'm not aware of), but I guess I'm thinking primarily of the vintage card sets.  Does anyone here have or collect these?  This is one of those items (alongside the actual vintage figure line and the BK glasses) that really bring back that SW nostalgia for me.  I didn't have a ton of them when I was a kid, and most of the ones I did have were ROTJ - but between myself and a friend of mine we had a pretty decent collection.  I did replace and complete my ROTJ (Series 1) set a few years back, and always wanted to eventually get all of the vintage (US) Topps sets.  It was sort of a way to "relive" the movie as a kid, and I always enjoyed them.  Anyways, I've just been starting to look into them again on ebay (and StarWarsCards.net, does anyone else know of another resource?).  I guess, prior to researching them online a bit, that I wasn't even aware that so many sets existed for the three movies.
