The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: Toy Fair 2014
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:49 PM »
Thanks for the amazing coverage Jeff!

I have to say, I really dig the Black Series packaging redesign, that TIE Pilot helmet just makes it look cool to me for some reason.  Big improvement over the current design, which is a bit blah.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with what we've seen from Toy Fair.  A pretty nice push for the 6" stuff, just enough of the 3 3/4" to keep us interested, and the first taste of the Rebels product (nice to see some new vehicles coming up).

Honestly, if the 3 3/4" Black Series line continues this trend, I'd be pretty happy.  Not an overwhelming amount of releases, a focus on OT for the most part, and the figures we've seen all look pretty amazing.  I hope it keeps up (whether called Black Series or something else) in the years to come.  Interesting to read at a couple places that Hasbro has specifically been told to stay away from EU and also pull back from prequel stuff.  Surprised that they came out and confirmed that, but it is good to know.  I'm still wondering if we'll still see OT or PT stuff during the upcoming movie years starting in 2015.  I'm guessing there can't be too many spots available for "other" stuff in those years, let alone much focus there as the stores are likely going to want primarily the new movie stuff.  We'll see.

The 6" stuff looks just amazing I think.  I know not everyone is into these, but I'm really enjoying them.  So far, it has been just the right pace that I can afford to keep up, so hopefully that continues.  I can't wait for that Chewie, not to mention Luke and Vader.  On that topic, not that it is a new thing, but wow we are getting lots of Lukes between the various lines in the next year or so.

The Rebels stuff looks cool too, especially the vehicles.  I'm not sure what I'll do about the figures yet, but I'm guessing when the show is starting up and the hype begins I might bite.  Plus, if it is good, that will help as well.  I'm pretty excited for the show itself, and the figures - despite being 5 POA - have some neat designs in there too.  Honestly, I hope if nothing else it is a fun line for kids where the figures can fit in vehicles, are sturdy, and everything works well together.

Overall, not necessarily a TON of stuff for Star Wars, but still more than we've been used to recently it seems.  I know there is a lot I'm looking forward to this year, as we build momentum into the Episode VII onslaught.  Glad to see so much OT goodness everywhere as well.

The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 6
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:38 PM »
Looks like the starts of a pretty nice wave, anxious to see pics of the Han.  A new "Luke reveal" Vader is cool I guess too, although I was pretty happy with the one from the POTJ days as well.

Still really looking forward to this wave.  The Yoda alone is amazing, at least from the pics we've seen.  I'm pretty jazzed for the Luke as well, and Torryn Farr knocks another long-requested figure off the list.

Man, that Ree Yees is nice.  I never picked up the POTF2 one, and for the past few years just kept waiting it out figuring they would remake him eventually (since he's been rumored for awhile).  Can't wait for this version, looks great.  Doallyn is great too, and a long requested fan figure.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Deluxe Line

Both of these look great (thanks for all the great work/pics by the way Jeff).  I agree, Jabba looks a bit lonely in that empty box all by himself though, too bad they couldn't cost out some extras in there.  The Scout/Bike set is amazing too.  I've been in on this line since the beginning, but never army built anything (so far), things like the Stormies and Scouts make it tempting though (if I had that money).  $40 a pop would add up fast.  Nice stuff though, definitely.  Holding out hopes for a Taun Taun now!

Nice wave overall.  Although I'd rather have another new figures as opposed to the Sandie repaint, that is still one heck of a figure and I have no problem getting another version as well.  The Vader and Luke both look amazing.  Can't wait to pick those up and have them dueling on the desk :).

Agreed, love that Chewie, so well done.  Definitely looking forward to that one.  It seems like the 6" scale in general was a pretty big hit of Toy Fair, pretty much everything shown looks very nicely done.  Any news on when we can expect this wave?

Just got a notice from BBTS that this wave is now shipping, so should hopefully get here next week.  Hopefully hitting retail soon too.

Star Wars Rebels / Re: Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends Figures
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:01 PM »
Still not sure what to think of the whole 5 POA approach for the animated stuff, and I'm hoping we'll get a better idea at Toy Fair what the line is going to look like in the next 6-12 months.  The "Legends" name for this line seems strange with the focus on Rebels, but I'm guessing the focus may shift from year to year as we get into that movie/spinoff/movie/spinoff pattern.

Hall of Justice / Re: Batman TAS / New Adventures 6 Inch Line!

So excited for these, although they are a little pricey at $25 each I believe.  I'm likely in on these though, as this was/is probably my favorite show of all time.  Glad that it is making a comeback in toy form.

The Bullpen / Re: Guardians of the Galaxy

Yahoo has a nice preview up of the upcoming line of Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite Legends (with Groot BAF!).  Shown are Rocket Raccoon, Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Groot (with two more to be revealed).  Honestly, depending on what we see for Star Wars at Toy Fair this weekend, I think these are my most anticipated toys this year:

Found the Boba Fett at Target this weekend, not too bad of a figure.  Again, as with all of these, I don't judge them as harshly since I'm only paying $6 each (or $5 for the two packs), but they aren't too bad.  I find it fun keeping up with the OT characters anyways.  Again, if these would have been the POTF2 figures we had gotten, I think we would have been out of our minds with how detailed things were, but a lot has changed in action figures since '95.

Star Wars Universe / Re: Star Wars Movie Spin-Offs?
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:30 PM »
This news is a couple of weeks old now, but forgot to post it here at that time.  Anyways, regarding the Boba Fett spin-off, it was reported that Kasdan had a pitch for a sort of "man with no name" reboot of the Boba Fett character, with essentially the "clone Boba" from the prequel era getting killed off at the beginning of the movie, by someone we don't see/know, and the killer taking his identity.  Thus, restoring the "mystery" of the Fett character again, but essentially writing out Lucas' original vision.  Kind of interesting.

LEGO / Re: The LEGO Movie
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:26 PM »
We caught the LEGO movie yesterday, and we all loved it as well.  My daughter wanted to do nothing but build LEGOs once we got home.  In many ways it reminded me of Toy Story, as far as having that element of imagination (specifically a child's imagination) and how wonderful that can be.  Also, I want our basement to have an entire LEGO city set up in it now, wish we could afford that ;).  Looking forward to seeing it again.  Loved the cameos as well.

It's a friggin' shame that Hasbro didn't make the 1995 figures like this.  There's nothing on these that could not have been done back then, they just made bad aesthetic choices with the muscle-men figures.

I thought the same thing when I picked up the Han/Chewie and Droids packs, if these had been the figures in 1995, people would have really been going crazy for them (which happened anyways I guess, but it still would have been cool).  I happened to find the Stormtrooper at TRU today, and that figure really is pretty nice.  Low articulation and all that, but otherwise, it is a pretty sweet trooper.  Still on the lookout for Boba Fett at some point, but I think I'll continue to try to pick up all the OT characters.  Fun figures for $5.
