Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Comic Book Thread
« on: May 26, 2016, 03:38 PM »
I'm usually pretty open minded when they try these shake ups in the comic books, knowing that eventually things will go back to normal. I've seen nearly every hero die, then come back, be mind controlled, or have their body taken over by a villain....and eventually things go back. That being said, this one just doesn't sit right with me. There is a good article over at Newsarama, "Why can't they just let Captain America be Captain America", basically detailing how since he was "killed" after Civil War he has been lost in time, then in another dimension, then aged, then depowered, and now this. It seems to work well with the movies having Cap be the All-American leader, who always does the right thing...the comics seem to shy away from that. This twist, and they said there is no doppelgänger, mind control, etc. to this, fundamentally changes the character. Hopefully things will work out, it's only one issue, but this is one change I'm not a fan of.

As far as Marvel's situation, they haven't ever really done a "reboot". They start over at new number ones, nearly yearly, but the previous stories and history are still in tact. They almost run the books like tv in a way, with a new "season" each year. I guess this keeps the history for older readers, while offering an easy entry point for new readers. I think they think an "issue 542" might scare some people off. DCs New 52 initiative that is just wrapping up now, was more of a reboot that started a new history, which they seem to be course correcting a bit now by bringing back stuff from prior to that. Hopefully it works, because I had dropped down to basically 3 books now from DC as the rest seemed unfamiliar or dark for dark's sake.

Same here. I keep checking our local stores, but I'm not hopeful. I've never seen anything other than the first wave repacks on pegs here anyways, and usually not even those. Not sure if it is our area, but we just don't seem to see the WM exclusives at our stores whether it is Star Wars, Marvel, Funko, or whatever. If anyone is able to help me out with this wave, I'd really appreciate it. As much as I want these type of figures to continue, I hope they find another outlet. Ideally, replace the armor up line/price point with these, available everywhere.

So pumped, going today after the kiddo gets out of school. Without spoiling anything, is there one or two after credits clips? Just curious if there was something all the way at the end or not since we have somewhere to be right after the movie.  Thanks. TeamCap

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Rumors
« on: May 4, 2016, 05:02 PM »
This doesn't necessarily apply only to 6" Black Series, but with all the announcements today from Hot Toys, Sideshow, Gentle Giant, Funko, and would be neat if Hasbro would at least announce a new figure or something, or give a preview of something that has been rumored/announced. There is still time, but it seems like such a missed opportunity to do something fun for the fans like virtually all the other companies have.

Other Toy Lines / Re: M.A.S.K.

Looks like a M.A.S.K. Comic is on the way from IDW:

Went looking for the new Black Series wave today and Endor Han Solo. So, I'm going to go ahead and put the cry for help out there if anyone happens to find extras as this wave filters out more. Our local stores have just been disasters for this line. If not for online orders and the help from others, I wouldn't have any of them. Especially looking forward to the Han, but the whole wave looks nice.

Rogue One / Re: Rogue One Toy Rumors

With all the rumors, plus their appearance in the trailer, it would make sense that there would be a new AT-AT. However, much like the Falcon from TFA it is tough to want to pick a new one up if you already own the previous (awesome) BMF versions. I was also really hoping for some sort of Death Star. With what we know of this movie, this might be the best (last?) chance to get something like this. It just seems like if Hasbro was going to take a chance with a new Death Star, now would be the time. A great Christmas item too.

Really looking forward to that Starkiller Han figure...   probably because it could be the last SA 3.75" Han they make until the Han stand-alone flick hits.   :-\

Never really thought about that, but you're right Jeff. Kind of sad to think about really. Unless they do a SA Han Solo in his primary outfit from TFA (which would be great), this could be the last SA, 3.75", Harrison Ford Solo we see.

The Force Awakens / Re: TFA 3.75" Jungle/Space/Snow/Desert Line

Good points, we have gotten things pretty well covered from TFA, aside from Maz's place aliens (although it is tough to see many of them). I like Jeff's suggestions, and I'm actually indifferent on getting Snoke yet but just mentioned him because he is a significant character. I would like to see Luke and Leia though. I know Luke was barely in the movie, but I really liked his look and recent rumors point to him possibly having a different costume in VIII. Plus, it's Luke 🙂.

I guess I was more concerned about the line in general, and since it is technically known as a TFA line at this point, I went there. I guess a break is ok with me too, since I have enough other stuff to buy/save for, just wondering if we were going to go 4 months without any new figures.

So with the recent Black Series rumors from JediNews breaking down the Force Friday lineups, it looks like figures like Leia, Revan, Snowtrooper, etc. are being held until then. Does that mean that we are on a break with this line until then? I just got shipping notice for the Luke, Ahsoka, Kanan wave, so are things on a four month break now?

Just going through the photos from Toy Fair and the lists of upcoming things, are we in for a summer dry spell? Outside of the handful of Rebels figures shown (and the Black Series exclusives) I don't think we know of anything else due before Rogue One's Force Friday. That would seem to mean that the Takodana Encounter pack,  and any exclusives, might be it until September?  It really boggles the mind how Hasbro has really dropped the ball on communication and announcements of upcoming product. Heck we have seen boxed and loose pictures of the next WalMart exclusive Black Series wave without them being officially announced. Seems like it would be a good time to get another couple waves of TFA figures out there (Luke, Leia, Snoke, etc.), since it is only one of the biggest movies of all time.

Other Collectibles / Re: Funko Pop Bobbleheads Star Wars

Nice collection, they sure look nice all stacked together like that. I'm slowly getting more and more into these as well. I've always picked some up here or there, primarily Star Wars and Marvel, but really have been helping our daughter pick up her favorites across the various licensees. They seem to do about everything (aside from Indiana Jones oddly enough). With TFA I've been sticking with characters from the OT like Han/Chewie, and any included in Smugglers Bounty. I find myself now wanting to get more OT ones. It is a slippery slope.

I received the Unkar, FN-2187, Rex wave from BBTS today, so I guess I'm caught up for now? I was looking to see what else was coming up (aside from the Takodana pack), and I didn't see any other TFA figures on the horizon really. There are those Rebels figures announced at Toy Fair, but those aren't up for preorder yet even. It is just surprising they aren't hitting TFA harder with the movie being such a hit.

Also, although we are getting more in the 6" Black Series line, we really aren't seeing much for classic characters these days. Not unexpected, but I do wonder how much we will see going forward too. It is a good thing we had such an amazing run before the new movies started and the switch to 5 POA, so luckily there wasn't a whole lot left to do.

TV-9D9 / Re: Star Wars Rebels - Season 2 (Spoilers)
« on: March 31, 2016, 05:13 PM »
Really enjoyed the finale, particularly the Ahsoka/Vader showdown. There was a lot of stuff going on that really changes things for the characters as well. If you haven't already read it, there is a nice interview with Dave Filoni at where he details a lot of what happened. It sounds as if Ahsoka's end was left intentionally ambiguous, whether she was indeed walking into a cave at the end, or that was her walking into "the force". Either way, sounds as if we won't be seeing her for a bit as focus shifts back to the Rebels crew.

It definitely seems like reviews have been average at best. We are going this weekend, and I'm looking forward to seeing it, but the reviews I've read seem to highlight some of my biggest fears about this movie and DC's "universe". Top of the list: no fun. Most of the reviews I've seen, while highlighting some high parts, but consistently mention that it isn't "fun". I'll admit that I've grown up a Marvel fan, but enjoy DC as well and want them to make good movies as well, but it just seems like they are so insistent on being "not Marvel" that they actively avoid good ideas.

To me, superhero movies -with few exceptions- should be fun and uplifting. It is escapism after all, and people shouldn't walk out of a Justice League movie feeling depressed. I've also seen it mentioned that when the Trinity does unite in BVS, it is sort of underwhelming because there isn't any history between the characters. Which is why Marvel built their way up to Avengers, Civil War, etc. I feel like DC doesn't want to wait that long so they are pushing it all into one movie. One other thing sort of unrelated to this that irritates me is their decision to not cross over their TV/movie properties. The Flash is probably my favorite show these days and so well done, and i would love to see that version of the character cross over to the movies (not to mention other characters like Arrow, Canary, Atom, etc.) Another example of having a "Marvel did it, so we won't" attitude.

That said, we have tickets for Saturday, and I am looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully my fears are unfounded and it's a great time.
