Yoda when he was training to be a Jedi sounds interesting. But he'd be the only figure from his time period.   :D

Same removable helmet/crappy right hand Darth Vader everyone has 5 of. Why not the ANH one? Not that it matters. They also could've repaint  Sith eyes on Anakin as normal eyes and ticked completists off.

The figures might not totally suck at $3 - $4 as army builders or whatever.  But, yeah, not much use for them.

You mean the motorcycle guys? They were made just to ride the cycle. 5 POA plus knee joints, IIRC. Some folks might want the heads for customs.

If I was still big into GI JOE I might have gotten Firefly one http://www.yojoe.com/action/12/firefly24.shtml

Not a Joe collector, but I saw these at Big Lots the other day and thought I would let you other GI's know.  Only $7 for all three figures.

I never saw these at any discounter. (Big Lots here blows, even...especially the newer, bigger one)

I managed to find one Retaliation HISS at Target for $6. The rest and all the figures are long gone, leaving $4 motorcycle sets that I'm not sure I'd even pay $2 each for.

There's been no official announcement, just leaked photos and now an actual store preorder listing.

Should've make it with an "exploding" feature, like the old Micro Collecton X-Wing.

+1 I loved that Xwing! There was something so fun about pushing that button and having it go all wet noodle.

I actually never owned it, but I had the snowspeeder which had the same feature, it was the last micro collection thing I got. It was cool.

Packaged figures. What fun year this might have been, before the dark Black times...

That's all that was left at one Target, Mace and Anakin. Don't have either figure and even at $5, I still don't care.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Does the Emperor Get Haircuts?
« on: August 7, 2013, 04:10 PM »
From ANH, there's an idea that the Empire was almost entirely human,  with Tatootine being a frontier outer rim planet territory barely garrisoned.

Palpatine's associates were aliens in the prequels, his force-damed apprentice was an alien (and his master, too). He may or may use speciesism to aid his power base later on, but he clearly isn't racist that would imply he cares about something passionately beyond power. He happily discards anyone for his own gain.

No Imperial women, but then the Emperor's EU not-really-an-apprentice was Mara Jade. Of course, lack of women in the movies was widespread (Yavin 4 is a sausage fest), reflecting the view of women in combat that many cultures had at the time. Female rebels pilots in ROTJ were cut or redubbed.

Aren't the rebels prejudiced? Leia calls a sentient being many years older than her "a walking carpet". C-3PO, owned by rebels, has disdain for Jawas. Many Bothans died, laments Mon Mothma, but we didn't invited a single one to this meeting.

The old EU said that Mon Calamari was attacked by the Empire, hence they allied with the Rebellion, now the Mon Calamari were part of the old Republic.

It's a mess. Maybe someday there'll be a gritty reboot that either has widespread use of aliens on both sides or eliminates non-human organic sentients entirely. Chewbacca can be a tall human who speaks in grunts. Jabba the Hutt, a morbidly obese guy or just a fat Irishman. Someone speculated that Yoda was human, and that's what humans look like after hundreds of years...small, greenish, pointy-eared and with less digits.  ???

The Vintage Collection / Re: $5 Vintage Collection @ Five Below

My stores are littered with DTF only...  Nobody from that wave sells, but I'd wager my local store went through 10 cases before things stagnated?  For a while you couldn't get ANY of teh army builders and only QGJ and OWK were in any quantity.  Even Maul sold.

I'll probably keep buying $5 Sand Peeps as long as they are there...not everyone I see, but, yeah. Gungan's I'm iffy about because they are all scouts...if they were warriors with the shields and those energy ball thingies. Naboo pilots aren't much fun, though. I could have them stand around and wait for fighters that never arrive. I suppose the trenchcoats are decent custom fodder (never made sense to fly a space fighter with a duster on...yeah, I know they were going for retro early 20th century look.)

The most popular figure here was the astromech. Of course Maul sells, he's kid fiendly...er...friendly.
