We are going to need a hint here Sarge, I'm guessing not too many fans of ABC's Friday Night Crap-o-Rama around here :P

A million cards?   Holy crap I thought chuckles had a ton!  I was just going through my stuff BTW and pulled out 15 Sammy Sosa Rookies :)  Out of the "commons" box

I recently started two new collections:

Stikfas
Justice League (Of which I have them all except Hawkgirl who ahs not been released)

The Stikfas are pretty dang sweet but a bit on the pricey side.  A $2 reduction would sell these puppies like wildfire

Matt, I saw the West Side Story DVD at Target tonight and thought of your post from a while back (elephants never forget)

And...I will probably pick up Henry Portner V 2.0 on Friday (I know some of you bag Harry but methinks he is pretty swell)

We've had some new members join recently and I wanted to bump this so everyone can see Matt's gut!

I swear if I see Chewbacca in any form on any rumor list I might blow a gasket.  Darth Vader is quickly apporaching that point as well.  The Cloud City Chewie is about perfect.  It looks like the upcoming 4 pack Vader and the MOTD Vader are definitive scuplts of ROTJ and ANH Vader.  There are a lot more main character new sculpts and resculpts they can do before these two borons

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Jedi Defender: Scalper Supported?
« on: April 9, 2003, 04:16 PM »
Cory, there in lies the problem, like I said we are not officially one of the big boys yet and cannot pick and choose our sponsors.  We forced the hand we are dealt so to speak and try our best to mix it right...both CC and BT are two of the best Vintage sites out there IMO.   Modern stuff I think KebCo has a very good rep as well so it really is a mix of things to keep the site viable and all content free which leads me to my next topic...

Starwars.com has recently ssemi announced that a pay website is in the works where you get exclusive content, behind the scenes access, expanded databank etc etc.  I am actually all for this idea actually.  The question is do you think if a sites community is strong enough a pay site would be make enough money to support the site?  I know one major Simpsons Site exists totally free of sponsors and has a membership drive each year

I guess you could look at these like very, very nice customs :P

There is some ways that they could exploit this that actually has me a little tingly.  And if this pseudotrend were to continue, I'm all for it (excpet in the instances Jesse mentioned)

« on: April 9, 2003, 03:59 PM »
I would actually like to see digital effects done in the next Indy movie.  I wouldn't mind if Star Wars EP3 was shot 100% with digital effects.  If he could do such an awesome job on Clone Troopers and Yoda, he should just do it for the entire movie.
I disagree...I would want the new movie to be somewhat seemless with the other 3 which didn't rely on much CGI at all.  Some of the stuff they did do was a little cheesy (Tank going over the cliff in Crusade) and would look a ton cooler with modern effects.  But I just can't see unless the story is about aliens or something why they would want to do this

Collector's Tips / Re: Acrylic Displays!

Those are pretty keen.  Although like you mention, they are a little spendy.

These sound like the displays Matt was talking about that are at some chick store.  They also look kind of like my Wal-MArt specials

I'd also like to add we have dropped sponsors based on shoddy reports from our readership and are continually looking for new ways to go in this avenue.  I think some of your points are valid Cory, I'd like to hear some alternatives

I am not going to bad mouth our sponsors let's just say that I don't support all of them financially either though.  We actually behind the scenes have had some pretty serious discussions as to who should be a sponsor and who shouldn't and even on staff we are split as to which ones should and shouldn't.  If Chris could pay all of the hosting fees and the like out of pocket I am sure he would but he can't so sponsorship is necessary.  We are also small enough (right now ;)) that some of the bigger guys out there won't think about sponsoring us or won't return our calls.

I for a long time have wanted Newforce Comics on board as a sponsor...they don't sponsor anyone anymore though.

Other approaches I see though include a member donation drive where users actually pay the sites fees through some sort of membership drive not at all unlike the PBS telethons.  That is a nifty way to do it if you have the readership to do so...but it kind of is tacky too IMO.

About Brian's Toys...I agree with your assessment of their modern stuff Cory, but if you ask a group of collectors both modern and vintage about BT's and the reactions will be totally mixed.

Chris probably has more to say on this than I do but that is where I stand and what I know...suggestions for additional sponsors is welcome BTW

I also thought you were going to say we were aligned with SSG somehow Cory :P

It will be interesting to see what happens here.  I would be slightly less interested if George is directing.  Spielberg can do mostly no wrong in my eyes.  George while I still enjoy his movies has gone a little looney and lost his edge somewhere in 1978.

I'd say Indy would be a little less whiz bang effects laden than the Star Wars movies are.  Sure he's going to want to put in some effects like when Toht melted or Indy walked the plank in Crusade.  But having a digital effect in every shot would ruin it.  Somehow I almost think Lucas thinks this is the way it should be.  Spielberg has been the best at melding real and CGI IMO, such as with A.I. (which gets slagged too much IMO) or the JP movies.

So I think they will come to some sort of compromise...it will be interesting though

I do a pretty convincing Yoda. Consequently I also can do Grover and Miss Piggy. Oddly enough I haven't nailed Frank Oz's voice yet.  :-\
 :P  Too funny MisterPL

I love breaking out Mister Binks at parties, he is the guy people love to laugh at.  I really can't do anyone else though.  My brother in law does an awesome Chewie and Yoda though
