Ugh.  I find Marcia Cross revolting.  Her face looks like clay or something.

I'm with you on that, I don't like Marcia Cross either.  Smokin' bod but there's something about her face that looks's odd and rather disturbing.

I think Terri Hatcher is hot but I have to admit that Eva is pretty damn sexy.

Overall though, I get tired of seeing the same people over and over again and the Houswives are getting to that point now.  Let's move on to someone new.

Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Toys Thread
« on: April 12, 2006, 02:55 AM »
Because had a discount I ordered a DTC Low Light (one of my favorite classic Joes) and the comic 3-pack with Stalker, Snake Eyes and Stormshadow from Vietnam.

I'm kind of disappointed in all 4 of the figures.

Low Light, although he looks pretty good and I like the updated sniper rifle, has new arm joints that I don't like.  How long has the Joe line been using this new peg elbow instead of the riveted elbow and swivel bicep?  I picked up some late-wave 2-packs at retail that I didn't open (and they're boxed away right now) and I didn't think they'd changed to this new style?  He also has no neck to speak of which makes it hard to pose him prone behind his rifle.  Granted, not a lot of Joes look great that way but LL suffers from a short neck post and a high collar on his jacket.

Other than that, the paint apps are great, the uniform has a very vintage feel to it and the removable goggles are cool.  I just kind of like some of the VvV and Spy Troops figs better I guess.

As for the 3-pack, I don't like some of these figures either.  In general I like the vintage style bodies but I do like the new articulated wrists on the new figs.  Stalker is pretty good overall and the possibly the best of the set.  I'd have preferred a ball joint neck post though.  Good paint and the head sculpt is nice.

Snake Eyes just misses and it's more because of his hands than anything.  Only one hand (left) is really good for holding any accessories which kind of sucks.  I do love the detailed paint on the boonie hat and the shadowed eyes is a brilliant move.  I'd forgotten he carried the M-60 in the comic and it seems odd to think of Snake carrying something so big and unwieldy.  Second best in the 3-pack.

Stormshadow...I hate this figure.  The head sculpt sucks, I don't like the tank top and his hands are terrible.  He can't really hold anything in his right hand and the left barely works for his bow.  The bow looks nice, though, as do the arrows, but the quiver I don't like.  It feels kind of fragile and the shape of the sling is such that you can't really sling it over his back when he has his web gear on.  The web gear, although nice on some figures, doesn't work for me on Stormshadow.  I was really disappointed in this one and he was kind of the reason I bought the set.

I also thought they could have done a better job matching up Stalker's weapon to that in the comic.  They didn't do bad with Storm and Snake but the puny M16 that Stalker has is nothing compared to the night-scoped and silenced model shown in the comic.

I also ran into some DTC figures at TRU a week ago and the Monkey Wrench fig looked good as did the Cobra Trooper and Grand Slam.  I didn't buy them and after seeing Low Light I don't know if I'll bother.  Too bad.  With the new cards I was thinking about picking up this line but now, eh.

I used to use once in a while for news but never logged onto the forums there. used to be my go-to web site for all my news back in the days of EP1.  I don't remember when I came across

Never used but I wish I had.  IIRC that's where a lot of the vintage guys ended up after abandoning USENET.

man do I wanna thank thank you...any ideas where I could order a cast of it?

p.s...anyone know where to get GiJoe hands too...yup..he got them too.

I don't know where you could get a cast of the head but if you poked around on eBay you could probably find another one or, at least the same head without the sand paintjob.

For hands I'd go the same route, hit ebay.  You can snag loose Joe figs for cheap.   Or, check your local Salvation Army.

12" GI Joe figures that weren't versions of 3.75" Joes didn't have names.  I don't have my set at hand but I believe that it was the "Paul" headsculpt that you can see on this site.

It was more of a dirt paint job than was meant to show that he'd been driving through the desert.  I think that set may be the only one that came with that specific paint job although the headsculpt was included in several different sets.

Update: The set is called the "Desert Light Strike Vehicle" and it does have the "Paul" headsculpt with sand on his face.  This auction has loose photos of the figure that came with it.

What are you talking aboot, eh?

Oh, I also always laugh at the fact that their coins are metal and a magnet will stick to them.  It's how I separate my Canadian coins quickly from my US coins...pass a magnet over them and pull them out.

I grew up in a town with a lot of Canadian tourists and at any given time you could pull change out of your pocket and have as many US coins as Canadian.

I LOVED "Due South."  That show rocked.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Which is Your Favorite "Other Toy Line"?
« on: March 22, 2006, 01:03 PM »
I wasn't around when this topic first started but I'll jump in here.

Before SW started back up in 1995 I was collecting a lot of Toy Biz Marvel superheroes and misc. other toy lines including some of the 12" Hall of Fame GI Joe figures.  I pretty much quit all that and started 100% into the SW line and that's been my main toy line since then.

But I also have a lot of 12" GI Joe figures and other misc. 12" soldier figures (21st Century, Dragon, bbi) .  I also picked up a few 3.75" Joe figures over the last couple of years before they switched to the DTC line.

Other than an odd figure here and there it's pretty much been Star Wars #1 and 12" GI Joe a very, very distant 2nd.

It's official, I'm now running for Star Wars Fan Club President.

<pressleak>  You guys all need to tune into on Wednesday for a big announcement</pressleak>

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Battlestar Galactica...who's watching?
« on: March 11, 2006, 05:07 PM »
Spoilers may apply
I was surprised by the last half hour as well but thinking about it afterwards it makes sense.  It's a good way to advance the plot and, really, would you want to watch a season of the show that dealt with the politics of them settling on a planet?

This way, when it comes back in October, they can jump back into the action and go from there.  Maybe move on towards finding Earth?  I don' t know.  It's going to be interesting to see what becomes of the surrender to the Cylons and what will happen with Sharon's baby.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: George Lucas in Stormtrooper Disguise.

Hmm.  I was hoping for no shipping but kind of expecting it.  Seems a little steep for a new head on an existing body which doesn't appear to be the VOTC sculpt.  Figure may change, I guess, but we'll see.

$44.95 minimum for the head cheese....

Wholly crap!  I have a 20" flat panel monitor and with that image at full size her boobs take up the entire screen!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: TRU Sues and Wins to Leave

Well said.  I've always felt that was TRU's worst problem - why keep old stuff on your pegs when you could reduce them by a couple dollars and fill the pegs with more popular items?  You can't sell something if there isn't room for it on the pegs.

I just remembered something when I read your post...made me laugh.  When all the ROTS figures were hitting last year one of the TRU stores I went to had a huge bin for their ROTS figures but you could still find POTJ and VOTC figures on pegs in the regular action figure aisle.

Now, why in the world would you dump cases of new action figures, that people are shopping for, into a bin instead of putting them on a peg where they present better and it's easier for the consumer to shop through?  Especially when you had 1 - 3 year old stock taking up the peg space that could have easily gone in the bin for $1 each?

I have to believe that some TRU stores didn't get stocked with as much ROTS merchandise as they would have if they hadn't had older figures still in inventory.  I also think that some stores won't discount SW toys because they're known sellers.  Over the years there have been on-and-off reports of stores saying they won't carry a lot of SW because it doesn't sell.  Yet they wouldn't discount stagnant inventory to move it because you knew they were thinking that; "oh, it's SW, SW always sells."

There's a WM in Pennsylvania that I was just in about a month ago.  They still had some Saga 12" figures like Zam and Imperial Officer with "clearance" stickers on them...$19.00.  Gimme a break.

One of the worst fiascos that I can think of in TRU's history is probably Godzilla in 1998.  Godzilla got a front end "store" to promote the release and they had stuff hanging from the ceiling, stuff was roaring at you when you walked was as big as anything they've done for SW.  Movie?  Sucked.  Tanked (well, cost $130 million...made $130 million. Hated by Godzilla fans.).  Toys sat in stores for years before they cleared out.  I actually would not be surprised to still find a Godzilla toy in a store, somewhere.  Runner's up?  Men in Black, Independence Day, Final Fantasy, Planet of the Apes.  We were tripping over those properties for at least 3 years in a lot of stores.

In TRU's defense, though, some of them went to clearance relatively quickly, but still not low enough to actually sell.  I would think at some point you have to just say fuckit and sell it to a liquidator or put the green tag on it for $1.00 and have a "half off all green tagged prices sale." (Still kicking myself on not scoring a couple 12" Van Helsing figs when they did that in January 2005)

That's one thing that Target does well.  They move inventory.  Sometimes almost too quickly, but they always get it out of the store eventually.  Hopefully that's what this former Target guy will bring to the store.  Keep things fresh, keep them moving, know when to cut and run and offer some non-toy items that will bring foot traffic into the stores.
