Shockingly, I found a Han Solo and Leia on the pegs at Walmart this morning!  I purchased the Han and a second Rey (to diplay with the hood on) and left the Leia.  I can see that one sitting on the pegs a bit.

The trick with increased shielding is the increased mass of the spacecraft.  Launch operations and general propulsion are intrinsically tied to the mass of the spacecraft.  A magnetic shield may be less massive than shield plating with a traditional material like lead, but could potentially interfere with onboard instrumentation.

The plan we came up with was to have a shielded room where the astronauts could retreat to in times of increased activity.

Does protection from radiation fall under life support?

Yes, but I was going the wee need to eat and breathe route.  In my project, I was able to counter radiation with shielding...even magnetic shields would work well.

Another ther hurdle to get over for manned interplanetary flight is life support.  I covered this problem in my space habitation and life support class when I was working on my Masters degree.  There are some intriguing concepts for sustainable life support, but we are not quite there yet.

So I finally bit the bullet and purchased an Xbox one elite this week.  It took me a bit of time to transfer my profile over and it's been installing Halo 5 and the masterchief collection for the past day and a half.  It's already used 20% of the ont TB drive and it's only got those two games and Mass Effect loaded.

I will actually get some game playing time tonight, but so far I'm not overly impressed.

Hell, I keep thinking about how much we have learned about the universe just in my lifetime!  Before Voyager, we thought all the moons in our solar system were cold, geologically dead worlds.  Now they are some of the most promising places to find alien life!  Black holes and the kuiper belt only existed in theory and we had no proof of planets outside of our solar system.

What will we learn in the next 45 years?!

If five different companies can do 6" figures I don't see why another company can't step up and make properly scaled "SW vehicle collectibles" that are actually representative of the onscreen source material.

Hasbro can keep making their ****** under scaled Nerf toys, and we collectors can get stuff like The Ghost and Kylo Ren's shuttle that actually go with the figures we buy. WIN WIN!

I'm just spitballing here, I know all the factors that would combine to make this highly improbable. But I would be more than happy to shell out $100 or more for a quality Ghost, even if I had to have it shipped from Japan.

Just know that if you ever fall on hard times and find that you no longer have a roof over your live rent free in mine!  :D

I was comparing this ship to my Saga Luke's X-wing and I was wondering if these were inscale with each other.

I know that the scale of the Luke's X-wing is slightly off (calm down Jesse), but comparing these two fighters together they seem to be about right since the TFA X-wings are smaller than the OT least that's how it looks to me.

What do you guys think?  Am I way off base here?

I thoroughly enjoyed it.  That series was everything Super 8 failed at.

One will probably end up in my son's room.

Kenny Baker has passed away.   :'(

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Rogue One (SPOILERS)
« on: August 13, 2016, 10:27 AM »
I don't mind Mon Mothma or the other cameos in this movie.  The movie isn't centered around Mon Mothma, Bail Organa or anyone else.  As far as the first of the anthology movies, I'm ok with them taking a half step away from the main saga...although, I still like that opening mission in Dark Forces where Kyle Katarn steals the Death Star Plans.

In all honestly, I'm looking forward to Darth Vader's role in this movie because we can finally see him being a dark side of the force wielding badass!

Hopefully, after Rogue One, I'm hoping for more larger universe stuff.  Give me a 47 Ronin style move about Jedi who survived Order 66 not named Kenobi or Yoda!  Give me a Magnificent Seven set in the Star Wars universe!  These wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to write and they are practically a license to print money!

The reviews from suicide squad I have heard is that it suffers from the same issues that Batman vs Superman had...DC is trying to accomplish in three movies what Marvel took a few years and several movies to build.  The result is a movie that is well cast, but is just a narrative mess.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Star Wars Spin-Off #2 - Han Solo!

I'm getting less and less excited the more that I hear.  While I think a young Lando/Han/Chewie adventure could be fun, I don't have any desire to see Han win the Falcon from Lando.  We know it happened...don't need film time dedicated to it.

I am much more interested in the anthology movies being far removed from the saga storyline.

Love the trailer!  This movie has a cool dirty dozen vibe to it.  I hope that they do more anthology movies like this in the future, but further removed from the main movies.  Not everything has to revolve around the Death Star.
