The Force Awakens / Re: TFA 3.75" Jungle/Space/Snow/Desert Line
« on: January 1, 2016, 04:32 PM »
I was wondering the same thing.  But some of the backstory I've been reading about the Resistance leads you to believe that they're a smaller force that's working outside of the parameters of the New Republic.  And perhaps they're not as well equipped as the Rebel Alliance around the time of the Battle of Endor.  I do recall some dialogue from the movie that said the attack from Starkiller Base on Hosnian Prime likely destroyed the Republic Fleet.

I did a little reading on Wookiepedia and here's what's out there:

-The Galactic Civil war went on for a year after the battle of Endor.  The Empire had a deveastating defeat at the battle of Jakku...and they signed a peace accord with the New Republic.

-After the battle of Jakku, many Imperial Commanders took their ships and fled to the Unknown Regions...they later returned as the First Order and started building up their military in violation of the Peace Accord.

-The New Republic, seeing the mistakes of the Old Republic and wanting to get away from the shadow of the Empire, moved the Capital of the New Republic from Coruscant to the Mid-Rim Hosnian system.  They also effectively demilitarized by dismantling many of the ships in their fleet.  They still have the largest fleet in the galaxy, but it is nothing like the size the Alliance had in the Galactic Civil War.

-Princess Leia, seeing the intelligence reports that the First Order is in violation of the Peace Accords, leaves the New Republic Senate and starts the Resistance.  She recruits many military commanders who were out of a job with the New Republic demilitarization and has spent nearly all of her political capital in doing so.  Although the Resistance is not formally recognized by the New Republic, they do offer under the table assistance and the Resistance has the support of many of the Senators.

Hope this helps.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Hot Toys 1:6 Rey & BB-8
« on: December 30, 2015, 11:20 PM »
These are amazing.  I hadn't thought about using Sphero as a 12" scale fig.  Does it fit with the rest of the line?

I received a Sphero BB-8 for Christmas and put it next to my Hasbro 12" R2-D2 and the scales are really close.

I wonder what happened to the over zealous pyrotechnic dude.

That's not the same outfit.  The one she wears at the end of the movie has more blue in it.

I'm happy waiting for Adywan to do the revisited versions.

Opened this for my son yesterday and it's a decent toy, although over priced for the quality...the plastic seems very lightweight.  I think this thing should be $25.

Santa brought one of these for my 5 year old and after it was put together, I think it's pretty nice.  The way they put in a second seat for a gunner is pretty cool...of course I now have to get him a second TIE fighter pilot.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VIII

I'm sure they are following the Marvel formula.  Kathleen Kennedy and the executive producers have an idea on where the story will ultimately go, and they give direction to the writers and directors on how to get there.

I'm not overly worried.  Look at what they've done with Marvel.  They spent $4 billion on Star Wars...they are not going to **** it up.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (SPOILERS)
« on: December 23, 2015, 05:28 AM »
Finn being able to use a lightsaber was no big deal to me, he's probably had the same hand-to-hand training that other Stormtroopers receive, and I never bought into the idea that only a Jedi could wield a lightsaber.  I'm also wondering if Finn is somehow force sensitive...it would be a good explanation for how the First Order's conditioning never took hold of him.

I read online somewhere that the battle of Jakku broke the back of the Empire and hurt the New Republic as well.  After that, an armistice was signed and the two factions went into a sort of cold war era.  As stated in the opening crawl, the First Order arose from the remains of the Empire and the Resistance was formed to keep them in check without the entire Republic going to war.  The Republic financed the Resistance, but kept it low key...this was alluded to in General Hux's speech.

There's a lot of speculation that Rey is Luke's daughter.  I'm not convinced of this yet...you would think Leia or Han would have recognized her.  I'm hoping that she is not related at all, and she was possibly a survivor of the academy massacre...but it wouldn't surprise me if they go down the "she's a Skywalker" road.

It will be interesting to see just how broken Luke is after what happened to his students.  For him to walk away from everything speaks volumes already!  I half expect to see force ghosts of Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda muttering in the background through a portion of Episode VIII.

Where do you think Snoke came from?  I'm guessing that he was one of the inquisitors, and he was able to rise after the Emperor and Vader died.  I really hope that he's not Plagueis.  That would ruin the story for me.

The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: Walmart Black Series 3.75" Wave 3
« on: December 22, 2015, 06:46 PM »
I cracked these open and I have to say that it's so hard to believe that the main line is now 5 POA. These are just so nicely done that it makes me strongly consider dumping the 5 POA line and focus on the Black series.

Welcome back Brother!

The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: Walmart Black Series 3.75" Wave 2

I have to say that this wave is a big hit in my area.  I stopped off at Walmart to pick up another Kylo Ren for my Dark Side shelf and they were all gone...so were the FO Stormtroopers!
