I received a review copy of Soul Calibur IV, which I obligatorily reviewed.  You can read it here:

I liked the game a lot.  I haven't gotten too deep into it yet, but so far it's been impressive.

If anyone is interested in playing the LittleBigPlanet beta, send an E-mail to littlebigplanet@usatoday.com with the subject LittleBigPlanet Beta.  I'm hoping I was one of the first 15,000.   ;D

PS3!
« Reply #242 on: October 9, 2008, 11:40 PM »
I cant find a ps3 thread but if there is one Mods do what you will with this.

Just a question. In the states how much does the PS3 sell for and is the 80gb the only system now available? I ask because I want to get this system BUT I cannot afford a $400 purchase at the moment (and if I do well now more SW collecting for awhile) Is the 60gb still out there? (new) I know I dont need 80gb because that is A LOT but if that is all that out I might get it but only if it is cheap..er then 400.
School has been on strike all month. so much for the summer job I was hoping to get D:

Right now your only official options are to buy an 80-Gig at $399 or preorder a 160-Gig at $499.  If you're really lucky you might stumble across an 80-Gig MGS4 bundle at some out-of-the-way Kmart.  But those are the price points right now, with no drop predicted until March.  Your only other options are a used/refurb model through an online retailer, or a used one off of eBay.

The MGS4 80-Gig bundle is available on Amazon at retail price.  This is the last system featuring (limited) backward compatibility.  Get it while it lasts!!

I'm confused a bit.  I have a PS2 now, and I think I'll get a PS3 at some point, are you saying the above mentioned model is the last that will play PS2 games?  Or does the limited backward compatibility refer to something else?  I was under the impression that all PS3 played prior model games.  Thanks.

This is the last model of PS3 that will play PS2 games.  Newer models have had that feature removed.

PS3 was always my intention from the getgo for nextgen gaming/movies, but that's waaaaay more than I'd like to spend.  Had no idea the MGS set were that much.  Probably just going to finish off some of my PS2 games I haven't completed, then I'll ditch it in hopes of finding a good deal on a PS3 sometime early next year.

Amazon's sold out.  Back up to $640 from various 3rd-party vendors.

They actually had a patch ready, but Sony decided it wasn't enough.  People without Internet access might still hear the song.  This really, REALLY sucks.

There are some people who got their games early... almost makes me want to drive around and see if I can find it anywhere.

Some places are reporting the recall won't affect North America, only Europe.  No confirmation one way or the other yet.

Summary of reviews (from Wiki) for LittleBigPlanet:

Edge 10/10
Eurogamer 9/10
GamePro 5/5
GameSpot 9/10
Official PlayStation Magazine (UK) 10/10
Gamereactor 10/10
IGN (UK) 9.7/10
IGN (US) 9.5/10
IGN (Aus) 9.2/10

Wasn't originally going to pick it up, but I can't refuse a game with those scores.

I just got a call from GameStop that LBP has been rescheduled to 10/27.  I'm not going to complain at all over a 1-week delay.
