Thanks for the kind response.  Much of the ideas that I pilfered were from the early paintings and (to a lesser degree) the early drafts of the Star Wars script, which was drastically different from the finished film.  Vader very much seemed as though he could be a relic of the Clone Wars (which seemed in the far distant past to the film before the prequels came along).  There's a lot of great stuff and unused ideas from this Star Wars prehistory...thanks again, man.

Thanks for the feedback.  Grievous was certainly a challenge...I must say I enjoyed piecing together the base...though I may have balked at the attempt had I known how bloody long it would take me to sculpt.  I'll be posting more stuff soon...thus far I have made ten Star Wars customs in this scale.

Thanks for commenting.  It would have been nice to see at least *some* variation in the armour design...I'm sure that improvements in technology would have been made between Episode III and IV to warrant upgrades for Vader's life support system.  I guess, perhaps, this design could be seen as a crude prototype for the more streamlines version seen in the films...an interesting take...I like it  :).  Thanks again.

Thanks for the very kind feedback, man.  I hope you enjoy some of my other work...not all of my takes on these designs are to everyone's tastes, but I certainly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for the comments.  I'll be perfectly honest...the lower set of hands are left that way out of sheer laziness.  I had modded the top set (which were sculpted in a closed grip), and left modding the bottom set until later, since I wasn't sure how to modify the articulated fingers to match the top set.  When it came time to prime the sculpt, I had forgotten to go back...when I noticed my oversite, I was so sick of working on this custom that I simply let it slide.  Terrible, I know...one of these days I'll fix it up...and maybe give him a cloak.  Thanks again, man.

Thanks for the feedback, man.  One of the reasons why I made sure to snap some pics of Grievous in the early stages is that in order for the custom to work, I knew he'd have to be completely unrecognizable from the original base.  I also wanted to keep track of my process more thoroughly.  I'm glad I did.  Thanks again.

Lego customizing...man, that is impressive.  Getting clean application on such a small scale requires skills and steady hands...very impressive work.

I love the Mandalorians as well...I guess you can never go wrong when working with such an awesome design, but you seem to go above and beyond with the added details and great paintwork.

A very impressive body of work.

Exceptional work on that Gargan.  The detailing is simply jaw-dropping.

I'm not clear on this...the head you have posted are original sculpts you have done?  That is some extremely impressive work there.  Great work set-up too  :)

Thanks for the kind words, Chewie.  I really do wish that Hasbro would branch into this scale...the Unleashed figures are interesting, but I really believe that they'd clean up with articulated 6" products.  Who knows...with them taking over Marvel Legends from Toy Biz, they may see the potential and have the means to create something of the sort.

Here's another custom of mine...a real headache.

General Grievous

Here's the work-in-progress:

This custom uses numerous figures (as you can see from the WIP).  This was a very sculpt-heavy custom, and the sculpting was done with epoxy putty.  The armour design deviates quite a bit from the film, but I was basically trying to get the basic appearance of the character and work around the fodder.  I would have preferred to have the sets of arms attached to a single joint on each side, but could not concieve of a way to do so.

Lots of work went into this thing...there are still many rough spots and things that bug me about him, but for the most part I'm happy with how he turned out.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.

Darth Vader (revised)

Among the customs that Hemble posted on my behalf was my Darth Vader...I have since made numerous changes to him.  This is the original:

I work primarily with Marvel Legends and similarly scaled figures.  The recipe is as follows:
Head: Original Sculpt (Epoxy putty for helmet and face plate, vinyl for "skirt" and grate)
Neck, chest, arms (Marvel Legends War Machine)
Stomach, pelvis, hip joints (Spider-Man Classics Mysterio)
Legs (Combination of Mysterio, Marvel Legends Modern Iron Man, and a LOT of Epoxy Putty).
Hands (Mandarin Spawn)

The armour is from a McFarlane Toys Jackal Assassin...I used it to give the armour a literal Samurai style, since much of Vader's conceptual design was derived from Samurai armour.  I wanted to fuse McQuarrie's early concepts with some of my own ideas.  The inner and outer capes are fabric, and the lightsaber is made from clear plastic dowel that I found at a hobby shop.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.

Hello everyone.

I posted in the newbie forum, but I just wanted to send out a general greeting to everyone here.  Hemble (who has gone on sabbatical now) introduced me to this site, and posted a few of my customs at this link: http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=12180.msg222170#msg222170

First off, I want to thank everyone for the feedback.  While I was not officially a member, I did find the comments very helpful and insightful.

Secondly, I will use this post as a sort of de facto index for whatever pieces I post...I see that the threads are relatively self-contained for customizers here, so I will follow that model.

And thirdly, I would like to say the perusing these threads has been very inspiring...much of the Expanded Universe work as well as the custom work derived from the trilogies is very impressive.

Well, I guess I'll quit being a windbag and post a few customs!

Newbies / Yep...I'm another newbie
« on: May 15, 2006, 04:24 PM »
Hello to you all.

Hemble posted a few of my customs here and directed me to this site...I read through some of the threads, and was very impressed by the talent on display.  I hope you fellas don't mind, but I thought I'd join in on the fun and share some of my Star Wars-related customs.

I've been at this hobby for about three or four years, but really only became serious about it over the past year and a half.  I do post at a few other forums, but felt I may be able to contribute and learn from this rich community of fellow Star Wars fans.

Thanks a bunch!
