Original Trilogy Collection / Re: New York - Toy Fair 2004
« on: February 10, 2004, 11:20 AM »
Hasbro releases a tidbit to get us worked up prior to Toy Fair this weekend:

"STAR WARS ORIGINAL TRILOGY COLLECTION

Ever since the classic Star Wars trilogy burst onto the screen in 1977, a new generation of movie and toy fans has continued the tradition of celebrating the past, present and future of the Star Wars universe. In 2004, Hasbro builds on the tradition with the Original Trilogy Collection of authentically detailed figures, vehicles and lightsabers, this time celebrating Lucasfilm's fall release of the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD.

Hasbro's Original Trilogy Collection will recapture the magic of the first three Star Wars film releases from the late 70s and early 80s for a new generation of kids, bringing back the memorable black-and-silver retro package look and collectible new versions of the earliest Star Wars toys.

In addition to updated action figure versions of the most favorite characters from the first three films, Hasbro is bringing back one of the most legendary spaceships in the galaxy -- available for the first time since 1996 will be the Millennium Falcon. (Approx. $4.99-59.99; Available in fall)"

Galactic Hunter has carded images of this wave up...

DANG!

Yavin just hit and now these show up... that means the Star Destroyer wave can't be that far away either!  18 basic figures through the first 3 months of 2004?  Plus 8 Cartoon and 12-20 repackage figures?   Plus 5 ultra figures?

That's a LOT of new figures very quickly!

850030004 Animated Figures Wave 2 This is not correct. I took this number to my Target this morning and the stocker told me this is the Hardware Department number.

Yeah, that number is NOT the Target DPCI number for the animated figures, but it is the markings on that particular case.  Keep in mind that the galactichunter report came from a foriegn e-tailer who probably got them from the factory and had nothing to do with Target.

The numbers listed next to each figure in that post are the UPC item number for each figure.

Anyway, I can confirm today that there are in fact TWO different case assortments shipping.

I saw them both today at a Target store in MN.  The first is in fact the blended case, but there is also another case with an even 3 of each figure from wave 2.

So, to clear it up, your Target may get either of the cases, but both of the assortments DO exist.

Great Googoly Moogoly, they're out!

GAH!

Man, that makes 15 new basic figures in the first two months of 04, along with 5 deluxe figures!

I only have half the Jabba's Palace basic wave, now I gotta worry about another wave and the Ultra wave 2 too?

Whew!

I wasn't very excited for Toy Fair, because I figured that we had already seen most of what they were gonna show, but with only 6 figures yet to come (Endor wave and BH wave) I guess Toy Fair will have more to reveal than I originally thought!

Not as cold

Dang.

We went from -15o F overnight temps with -9o F daytime temps during this week to 10deg F and SNOW this weekend.

Now, they are predicting snow all weekend, then next week we're heading back down to -15o F daytime high temps next week!

To all those NHL fans from out of state coming to town for the All-Star Game... Welcome to Minnesota!  This is the weather hockey was meant to be played in.  All you Phoenix posers can go back to your new ice rink in the desert.

At least with the cold weather the St. Paul Ice Palace won't melt any time soon!

This wasnt the figures falling over, it was the entire shelf. I dont think any sort of stand (aside from anti-gravity ones) could keep them from tipping in this case.

Kevin

Uh... sorry to confuse you, but I was responding to the second and third posts, which specifically mentioned figures falling over:

"and rarely do any figures fall over because the shelves are extremely sturdy."
by CHEWIE

"Figures like ML or LOTR fell over all the damn time. Still do. "
by HMI

I wasn't responding to the shelf-crashing issue...
Sorry for the confusion.

That's why I started buying Real Stands for most figures.
(and why I loved the CT chips).

Now, I don't get nearly the domino effect I used to when someone fell over!  It's usually just one figure that gets knocked over.

Figure Stands.  They're a good thing.

Thanks to my computer bing in a room without a TV and my current addiction to said game, I've really cut down on TV...

Sunday: Football (or baseball), Simpsons, and Alias
Monday: MNF and/or Las Vegas
Tuesday: none
Wednesday: West Wing, South Park
Thursday: ER (but not since they killed Dr. Romano)
Friday: none (sometimes JAG)
Saturday: none

Uh... not many shows in there at all.

Why I remember walking to school in -80 K with howling winds, 8 foot snowdrifts and uphill.  Both ways. :-*

-80 K ???

Dang THAT's cold.  You're made up of some pretty resilient molecules Morgbug...  I usually stop moving all together at 0 Kelvin.

Want a Silver Clone for $24.99 plus shipping? go to http://www.galaxyactionfigures.com/productinfo.asp?productID=1584

Uh... for clarity, that's a UK seller, so that's 24.99 Pounds Sterling...
meaning around $46.00 US currency.  Plus international shipping, bringing it up to around $60-65 total.

Found this at Galactic Hunter today...

The case assortment for Clone Wars Wave 2...

-------------------------------------

850030004 Animated Figures Wave 2

852160000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE ANAKIN X 2
852170000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE OBI-WAN X 1
852180000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE CLONE TROOPER X 1
852190000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE ASAJJ VENTRESS X 2
852200000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE DOOKU X 2
852210000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE DERGE BOUNTY HUNTER X 1
852220000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE YODA X 2
852230000 SW 3.75 ANIMATED FIGURE MACE X 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------

More proof that Hasbro has NO idea what they are doing.

The Clone Trooper is 1x per case?  WTH?
Durge is 1x per case?  Huh?

Either Hasbro is stupid or they don't have a big role in Part 2 of the series at ALL.  Anakin and Asajj must be major players in the Part 2 to stay at 2x per case.

Would it have been so hard to do 2x the new figures and 1x the wave 1 figures???  Or what about ZERO Mace/Obi-Wan and an Extra Yoda and Clone?

*sigh*

At least I live by 1,000,000 Targets so I'll probably end up with them.

Anyone think this might be red leader from ROTJ instead of ANH?

Uh... isn't that just Wedge?

If that's the case and it is supposed to be Red Leader from RotJ, and it is Wedge, then they should have just given us the Pilot Scene Wedge instead of the kit-bashed moster we're gonna get.

Hmmm... I still think it's supposed to be from ANH though.

Hmmm....

I like the idea of re-releasing old figures.  That way new collectors and kids can pick up these characters without me having to buy my 180th version/resculpt of Tatooine Luke.

Those who only collect loose can skip them since they already have them, and those who collect carded can still probably skip them as they have no "04-xx" number on them I notice.  Therefore, they are not really part of the official line?

And to all those complaining "bah, they just re-released character x last year" I don't get it.  EVERY character they re-released in 2003 (3PO, Han, Leia, Maul, Vader, Luke, and even Jango Fett) sold out in these parts and they did so rather quickly.  When it comes down to it, these figures will NOT pegwarm here if they are 1per case.

I doubt there are a lot of "Flight to Alderaan" Han pegwarmers around even thought you can still find that exact same character on CT card at some KBs/discount stores.  That alone should show you what new packaging can do.  I can guarantee you that a "Hangar Duel" Anakin on a new 2004 card will sell a LOT faster than the same figure on the beat-up/torn-up shelf-warmer card at KB.

I would however buy the argument that Hangar Duel Anakin and Obi-Wan should have been left out because they are already gonna be re-released in another form (cup and/or TRU 4-pack) AT THE SAME TIME.  They would have been better off throwing Acklay Obi-Wan in the TRU 4-pack and Tusken-Killer Anakin with the cup if they planned on offering recarded versions at the same time IMHO.

Anyway, the only bad part is that they will be 1x per case for each of the 12 figures... not gonna be easy for those wanting a lot of those.

Just my random opinions,
Jeff

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Target = Marked Down Prices
« on: December 24, 2003, 12:51 PM »
Hi All,

I saw this same thing too, but the new figures Hoth Luke, Hoth Droid, Tatooine wave, etc. ring up with the higher $4.99 price point.  AND, the cartoon figures still ring up at the new $6.99 price.

However, the new 2003 and/or recarded 2003 figures which still have the old UPC combo (like Ack-Med Beq or the recarded figures Han/Fett/Ani) however, will USUALLY ring up at the clearance price (there are always exceptions, based on the UPC).

The reason that Targets are putting the "older" figures (anything from 2003 Saga Collection 1 and Collection 2) on clearance is because both the 2004 figure assortments and the Clone Wars cartoon figures both have new assortment numbers.

In other words, in terms of shelf space, the 04 figure assortment is replacing Collection 1 and the Cartoon figures are replacing Collection 2.  This is standard Target procedure when Hasbro starts shipping them items with a new assortment number.

All it means is that Target is NOT expecting anymore 2003 collection 1 and 2 (2003) figures from Hasbro. They do however have product in the DC still to be shipped to stores though...

It is NOT a sign that Target will stop carrying SW figures! (I hate those "clearance = no more SW at store X" rumors that always start up).

I guess it is to our benefit that Target still sorts/stocks by assortment and Hasbro is selling mixed cases at the start of the year. Target will get in a "new" case of 2004 figures, but any 2003 repack figures will ring up at the clearance prices!

So, keep an eye out at Target, you'll probably see "new" figures like Dignitary #2 or Ack-Med Beq dirt cheap after Christmas, however the others (like the new 2004 figures) will stilll be $5!

Ugh.

A Y-Wing Pilot Head on PotJ X-Wing Luke?

Cheap!

At least they could have used the Biggs Body or just given us the Dang Y-Wing Pilot with a new helm deco!  That would still suck, but it's better than this crap.

*sigh*

Always a chance (however slm) that it may change before release...
