Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A thread about concerts.
« on: August 29, 2006, 06:04 PM »
I saw Rob Zombie and Godsmack on Saturday night.  I am finally starting to feel better today.

First time seeing Zombie, but he put on a good show.  His songs are perfect for rock concert atmosphere!

Godsmack played almost two hours, and did a lot of variety in their setup.  Their shows are always entertaining and really showcases their rock muscianship.  I left tired, with headache and hoarse.  It was great!!!!  ;D

I finally got this extracted from the download.  I saw about 45 minutes so far.  I read the book a couple of months ago, so the story is still fresh in my mind.

This is really an outstanding video!  My compliments to the fans of Brazil (I was wondering what language the characters were speaking since I know Spanish - there are English subtitles).  The voice-overs are very good.  My favorite is Boba Fett.

The story follows the book very closely.  A lot of the dialogue matches perfectly.  The book will always give better details, but the amount of work that went into this is unbelievable.

The background sounds and music really round-out the video.  The crowd-noise in the Cantina scenes works really well.  And the music (I assume it is from the SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE soundtrack) is a perfect compliment to the action and story.  The end of the biker sequence could use some work, since it didn't make sense watching it.  The seduction scene between Xixor and Leia is done well (for action figures) and hilarious at the same time!

I recommend everyone watch the vid.  Feel free to have some popcorn while watching.  And learn some Brazilian spanish.  8)

See, what I tell ya, FLACKS?!?!?!

JD has a good collection of PN readers.  They always like original , new stories!  No surprise that your story has gotten a bigger reaction over here versus RS.

See??  What I tell ya?!?!  What I tell ya?!?!

Oh, and I liked your PN too!  ;D

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Is Rock & Roll dead?
« on: August 24, 2006, 03:09 PM »

Audioslave is great, there are a couple of new Buck Cherry songs I enjoy. System of a Down has some excellent music.  Green Day is still alive and kicking.

I can't believe I agree with JOSHEEE!  :o

I love rock music, and I cannot stomach rap for more than a minute.  While I agree, most free rock radio is getting stale, simple b.c they refuse to play a lot of new artists.  I still listen to my local SA station, if only b/c I am familiar with 98% of the music and for local rock news & concerts.  The 2% would represent the "new" material.

As for recommendations, this is what I got in my changer in my Stang currently:

1. Godsmack - IV
2. Buckcherry - 15
3. Distrubed - 10,000 Fists
4. System of a Down - Mezmerize
5. Flyleaf - Flyleaf (self-titled)
6. New GNR - Chinese Democracy bootlegs

I can listen to all these albums interchangeably.  This year, I have purchased the new Buckcherry, Godsmack, and Flyleaf CDs.  Even tho Flyleaf can be considered a christian band, their lyrics are very introspective and every song is worth listening to.  The other 5 bands have a well-known following.  Worthy mention of Buckcherry's, Disturbed's, and System's albums.  Great use of guitars and melodies one each album.  the Buckcherry album will take you back to the times of great Party Music.

The new Godsmack album lacks the metal crunch of the previous 3 albums, but is easily a good rock album.  Try sampling a couple of their new songs on MySpace.

Previously, folks had been using this thread in the Customs area or this one in the Site Feedback section to announce new photonovel stories.

Damn, I didn't even know about these two threads EXISTED until right now.  That is the reason why I never posted anything there!  Why didn't you tell me guys?!   :o

Many thanx to CHEWIE for letting the staff know when the new stories were up.  I'd assume that the staff found the new story and posted it on the home page.

We are correct when we say the PN have gotten longer.  Some of my update are nearly 100 pics.  And I understand it can be difficult to comment on these stories.  But something is always better than nothing when it comes to comments.

If you don't like a particular PN, then give specific reasons.  No one will pay any attention to your comments if they are "This blows!"  There have been very few times I have written a negative review, but each time I tried to fully explain my opinion.  When I first started out, I would take offense to some comments.  But I eventually understood what the cristicism was about and accepted it.  Sometimes simply explaining that the photos are unclear, the grammer/dialogue is difficult to read, or the story is too difficult to understand will help the author improve.  It worked for me, I think.

Se sure to support FLACKSGUY's new PN.  He was one of the guy who always posted feedbak over at RS, and it is really good to see him join JD and post his story over here.

I will also try to take some time and read more PNs.  Someone mentioned on the Preview thread about characters crossing over to other PNs.  That sounds like a great idea!  I would be interested in doing that, although I may be limited due to my customizing skills.

Good conversation we have going here and and thanx to JEFF for posting his comments as well.  Always good to have an Admin comment.  Be sure to post in the threads listed above whenever a new PN or UPDATE is posted.

I think part of the problem is that traffic has decreased in both RS and JD forums.  Last year was perhaps the last great year for collectors, unless another SW movie or TV show bring to life new characters.

Now, over at RS, we know even less traffic will go thru the PN section since it is tied into the Custom section.  Some people don't care about customs and all of that creative work.  Thus, the interest for the rest of the work (i.e. - Fan Fiction, Artwork, PN, and Dioramas) fades.  I, myself, am guilty of rarely if ever venturing into those forums.

But I agree with ANGRY EWOK.  I can't imagine trying to read my PN with dial-up.  Some updates have 90+ pics.  And if there are not enough responses, a second update can be on the same page, which would increase the total pic count to over 150.  No way someone with dial-up is going to wait for that.  But also, a cheaply done PN will spoil someone new to the forum.  My advise is to look at every story (if time permits) and determine which ones you like.  And always leave feedback.

Personally, I prefer something over nothing.  One or two lines of feedback is enough to keep me motivated to finish my story.  Honestly, I would stop creating stories if I got no feedback, simply b/c I would presume that nobody cares for my story.  But if everyone who took the time to open the thread (and there are many here at JD) left a simple message, then I would be more than satisfied.

If it weren't for 3 Scummers on RS (SpecialOps, Flacksguy, & Redd), I would not even post my PN over there.  I've always thought of JD as a smaller, tighter community than RS.  About 20% the size of RS Forums?  Nevertheless, my PN gets more Views and Replies over here than at RS.  That, is in part due to the devoted members of collecting here on JD.  RS has many 'fairweather' fans.

I did PM Mac about the reason the PNs are no longer featured on the Home page of JD, something supremely valuable over RS.  Mac said we should post info about an update in the Feedback section of the forums, perhaps a link to the PN itself.  That way, the Admins can know about the new work, and post a mention of it on the Home page.

I am a little dismayed over the fact that there are so many good photonovels here and at RS that seem to get very little feedback.........

Wow, good words, Quazar.  But I think we should post this in another PN Discussion thread instead of here.  I wouldn't want to detract from FLACKS' thread by beginning this interesting conversation here.

I'll post my comments from RS to return to subject:

Outstanding, FLACKS!!!

A serious Photonovel from the Jester of RS PNs??

A very creative inventive plot you created here. Never would have occured to me to create a Jail facility on Coruscant. Great customs (you've crossed over to the dark side!) and great use of those orange jumpsuits. Those look permanent, since they seemed to be stitched on.

The dialgue really bring the story to life. Your pics are sharp and clear, and the framing of each pic is perfect. But the dialogue really adds to the pics and is a perfect compliment. The personalities of Dozier, Hollis, the Clones, and the inmates is very distinct. Dozier seems like a bad-a$$, and Hollis and the Clones are like "deer in headlights". And the inmates seem to have their own personality and story to tell. Great story-telling with the narratives between the pics and dialogue.

I hope this isn't the only story you tell in the Annex. I say that b/c of the last part being called the "Epilogue". If so, then I really look forward to the next story. If not, then what are you thinking?!?!? Create more stories, FLACKS!!!

BRAVO!!!

Thanx for all the feedback once again guys.  These were my favorite 3 chapters to create b/c of the the action and plot sequences revealed.

Jedi_Assassin:   Thanx for the props, Jedi.  I still impress myself with some of my ideas for backgrounds, but I am running out of ideas... :-\

212th Battalion:   You're losing men, 212th!   ;)  The end of the battle will be exciting with more action.

Quazar:   Always good to read your comments, Quazar.  I'll have to wear your comments as a badge of honor, since you always give a great critique.  At least your comments merit my constant delays in posting this update, b/c there was so much I wanted to get just right.  YESTERDAY did a fantastic job!

CloneCommander1:   Look forward to your future comments, Commander.  Thanx for leaving some initial feedback.  Enjoy the re-reads!

Roton7:   Glad to read you liked chapter 38.  That chapter had over 100 pics when I first shot it.  I had to edit and organize the battle in order for it to make sense.  I was really pleased with the flow of the battle and the various things happening on the battlefield.

Smartypants1635:   Shade isn't dead!  He just opened fire on his target.  His story will continue in the next update, starting with chapter 40.

CloneCommander1:   Shade is a tough SOB, and has more than enough confidence in his own abilities.  Just wait until chapter 40...

Artoo:   Thanx for breaking down the your feedback.  I agree, the politcial chapters are slow, but they are essential in the overall story.  I wanted to have a multiple plot story, which included some political intrigue.  The dialogue is extremely difficult to write for these chapters.  Glad you spotted the comments from BF2.  Great game!  Obi and Anakin have to get bored fighting droids all the time, so they need some distraction.  Gree and company will get into havey duty action in the next update.  I had multiple versions of the Taun We sequence, but I chose the simplest one in the end, and I thinked it worked perfectly.  The Sidious holo has been featured before - it is from the Dooku Saga 2002 figure.  And I am going to begin reading the RC book soon.  Shade is an original idea and personality.

Shade is about to get into some major action.  Look for him to lead off the next update.  No date as of yet, but I will begin work on it within the next week.

Thanx again for all the feedback!  JD is keeping this story going!  Stay tuned...... 8)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: iPod-racing
« on: August 21, 2006, 12:25 PM »
Well I replaced my iPod mini battery.  Instead of paying Apple $60+ to replace it and going thru iPod withdrawl for another 3-4 weeks, I purchased a replacement battery from a specialized battery store locally.  Paid $28 wth tax, and then followed the instructions on this website.  The instrucations that came with the battery were the exact same instructions but in black & white.

My iPod mini is now back to working properly.  Fully charged in about 4 hours as normal, and seems to be keeping it's charge better than the original Sanyo battery.  I've read other people saying their new battery lasts longer than the original.  I hope so!

FINALLY, FLACKSGUY JOINS JD.COM!!!

Welcome to these boards and the photonovels section that gets a lot more attention and traffic than the RS board.

I posted my comments over at RS, so I won't repost them here.

Bring over your SW Bloopers PN.  Everyone will get a kick out of them over here.

I was hoping to pick up an iPod nano for my wife for her birthday, but it sure sounds like a lot of you have had problems with your iPods.  Do you still recommend them?  Are these isolated incidents or is it pretty common to have problems with them?  This would be a fairly big purchase for us (we usually keep birthdays on the cheap side), so I'd hate to spend the money if its going to crap out in a year.

I don't have a Nano, but I will buy one if I can't change my battery in my Mini.  The iPod is definitely worth it.  I didn't I needed or wanted one for a long time.  MY wife "made" me buy one, and now I am suffering thru iPod withdraw.

As for my problem, any electronic device that uses a rechargable battery will eventually force you to get a new battery.  The problem with the iPod is that Apple prefers you to send it in, versus going to a local store.  Why Best Buy and Circuit City doesn't service them for you is beyond me.  I recently purchased a new rechargable battery for my digital camera, which is 3 years old.  But I used my iPod 5 to 6 times a week for a year, so the battery ran down much faster.  I still prefer the iPod battery versus buying batteries everytime.

The other minor computer issues I experienced were easily resolved by using the included iTunes software.  You and your wife would be very happy with a iPod Nano, which is much smaller than my Mini.

Well my iPod Mini is 1 year & 2 months old.  And as predicted, the battery began running down real fast last month.  I tried using the iPod Installer, resetting it, updating my iTunes software, and charging with my AC Adaptor.

NO matter, the iPod would charge forever without fully charging.  And when I used it, the iPod would only play for about 1 to 2 hours.  Usually it would just show the "low battery" icon.

So, following info at iLounge.com, I figured the battery was no good anymore.  So, instead of shipping my iPod to Apple for 3-4 weeks and have them replace the battery for $65, I cracked my Ipod open myself.  After following some detailed directions off of iLounge, I was able to remove the lion rechargable battery.  The hard part was actually trying to find a store that would sell me an iPod battery.  Best Buy, Circuit City, radio Shack, and the Apple store all said to send the Ipod to Apple.  (Strangely, Canadians can order an iPod replacemetn battery from the Best Buy Canadian site, but no luck in the US).

I eventually contacted a local store specializing in batteries.  And I was able to order a battery thru them.  I should receive it in a couple of days.  I'll post an update to let you guys know how it worked out.
