Vintage Kenner / Re: Vintage Max Rebo Band
« on: July 4, 2006, 01:29 PM »
i saw it from a seller in the mall (they are an aftermarket collector store that specializes in different lines) so it would be really hard to take a picture. it looked like it was still sealed in it's bubble packaging. the only problems i saw was that there was no cardboard boxing around around it and the bubble itself looked yellowed. the price they were asking was $69.99 for the complete vintage set (have no idea if it was a good price at all).

the reason for me asking is that I was thinking about picking up some vintage stuff I might have missed over the years. i haven't collected any vintage stuff since ROTJ when I was kid. I still have a majority of my vintage figures stored away at my folks in a vintage darth vader case. the store is reasonable for some of the loose vintage stuff but somewhat expensive for other stuff they sell. the rebo band set was one of the vintage sets I wanted...

Kubricks / Re: Attack of the Kubricks!

I've kept anything I've bought MOC since I started collecting back in '96. The only exception I make now is for any type of Kubrick and that includes the Star Wars line.

While I haven't been lucky enough to score any tough to get chases or special figs like the Jorg, if I happen to get a chance to pull a chase or purchase one of those special figs, they'll be happily opened put on display with the rest of the counterparts on my shelf.  ;D

I'm disappointed that they are doing only a Yankees and Astros version  :-\. While I can understand completely that an Astros fig should be made, they should've made 3 versions (Red Sox, Yankees, & Blue Jays) of the collectors club exclusive instead of picking solely the Yankees version...

Vintage Kenner / Vintage Max Rebo Band
« on: July 1, 2006, 08:31 PM »
Hi Guys,
I came across the vintage Max Rebo Band set in what looks like incomplete packaging (although the bubble has yellowed). The reason why I think it's inomplete is that the set is still perfectly in place in it's bubble, but there is nothing to indicate Star Wars on the packaging (it doesn't even look tampered with). My question is what would something like this cost and should I be skeptical about this set in any way due to it's packaging?

Love the pics of Series 6!!  ;D

I honestly can't wait until my box of 12 arrives. This will be my first case I've ever purchased (which I probably should've done awhile ago). I'm keeping my fingers crossed to get a chance to pull at least one of those chase figs...

My Walmart put up a fresh case yesterday. You should've seen the people digging through those things. It's like beanie baby mania all over again  ::). I never realized how popular they were until I saw the poor stock clerk get bombarded by customers. He didn't look too happy when he saw the mess they were creating...

I wish they would've done another regular set of Back To The Future figs. The boxed sets were really expensive to come by. I would've loved to add a George or Lorriane to my Kubrick Collection...

Meh, I don't think I'm going to get into the Spawn Kubricks. I collect too many kinds of Kubricks to concentrate on another series.

Today, I received my Charlie & The Chocolate Factory 2 pack in the mail courtesy of Gentle Giant. Love the two pack (although I'm really not into Bearbrick) and Willy Wonka's goggles actually stay on without any problems.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2006: What Are You Collecting?
« on: June 25, 2006, 05:28 PM »
2006. I promised this year would be different for me and it has. I stopped collecting on a bunch of lines including Muppets, Sportspicks (though I make an exception for certain teams--Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics), and WWE figs (with the exception of certain Classic Superstars).

My focus is back to Star Wars. The line that opened a Pandora's Box for other toy lines. I collected SW stuff back from 1996 until 1999. I started collecting Kubricks since the start of the year thanks in part to a pair of my friends who were heavily into collecting them. They drew me into the Kubricks line and back into the foray of collecting (much to my wife's dismay). I almost have complete sets (sans the chase figures) of Series 3-5 of the Star Wars line and I ordered my first Box of 12 a few weeks back for upcoming Series 6.

I'm gonna stick to this plan for awhile. I don't think I'll ever get back into collecting basic SW 3.75" figures. Plus the Sideshow 12" line isn't really appealing to me. I'd rather collect their Premium Format line which is very expensive, but the product is fantastic. What it all comes down to is space issues. I've got POTF2 figures sitting in my closet from my KB Toys days (I actually kept the cases that they were originally shipped in and use those boxes as storage for my MOC figures). They take up quite a bit of space considering I have about 7 boxes chuck full of SW figs.

The nice thing with the Kubricks is that I could care less about opening them up. It's my first and only time that I've ever opened up figures since I was a kid. You know what...it feels great. There's a certain feeling that's hard to understand opening up those figures for the first time. But regardless, I'm sticking with what I'm collecting this year. Here's hoping that it doesn't change for 2007. :P

2 chases huh? I remember how easy it was to score chases in the NFL 6 lineup...Alot of collectors complained that it was too much and the lines were getting overproduced. Now I'm lucky if I see any chases/variants around these parts.

The last chase I bought in a store was the "Double Star" Roy Williams. That was when hardly anybody realized the chase figure was on the back of the package. I had to laugh that the "Double Star" chase figure was bypassed by a collector who bought 3 of the "white" jersey Roy Williams in front of me. He turned around and said that he left one left of the "white jersey" williams on the shelf if I wanted one...

Kubricks / Re: 400% Kubricks

Wow. This is great news. I can't wait for the 400% Vader. The Series 4 version of Vader is my personal favorite Kubrick (that I own). It'll probably be my first 400% Kubrick.  The other 400%'s are out of my budget but I'll make an exception to get that Vader into my Kubrick set-up....

Ha. Thanks for the welcome,  JediMac! Are you sure nobody here collects those Kubrick thingies? ;D ;)  I'm really looking forward to chatting with you and the rest of the boardies. It'll be a great time. I'll definately holler if I have any questions...until then, I guess I'll see you around the boards!

I went into Newbury Comics today and I saw their "Upcoming Release" Bulletin board behind the registers. The board listed Star Wars Kubricks Series 6 for a July 19th release date (priced @ $17.99 each). It's one of the reason why I prefer ordering via the internet. A set of six (besides the 5-7% sales tax) comes out to $107.94. That's  a helluva markup and the reason why I prefer ordering the a case of twelve instead. It was nice seeing an exact shipment date for those though...
