Other Collectibles / Re: Brief question about odd Jawa
« on: August 26, 2013, 03:16 PM »
My first thought, too. From what I can tell the bend-ems Jawa never made it past prototype/sample stage. Haven't found a pic of it yet.

Is the Sentinel the figure that was supposedly modelled after Atha Prime?

If so, I still need that.

Yes, that's him. Atha Prime was based on Royal Guard concept art, IIRC.

The figure is essentially a "salt shaker" with 3 joints, but still cool looking. Light-pipe eyes, too.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Latest vintage acquisition

Only vintage figure find all summer, a worn Hoth Luke for around 25 cents.

Saw a Star Destroyer playset for $20, missing the escape hatch....not sure the electronics. Stickers were so-so. It was sort of tempting. The guys selling it were like reseller/scalper types, whose seemed to be stuck with mostly 90's stuff that they refuse to liquidate at prices that any knowledgable collectors would be willing to pay. They set up a few times every year apparently. You can tell someone isn't really interested in selling stuff when their used mass market books are overpriced. That's the type of stuff that other people leave by the curb when their sale is over.

Got the anti-Hailfire droid battle pack figures loose, missing some accessories, at a garage sale. Guns are no big deal, but the missing clone helmet sucks.  Though, I shouldn't complain at about 25 cents a figures.  ;D

Got a box load of loose figures at a moving sale, mostly POTF, but some Episode 1, Saga 1 and Tartakovsky Clone Wars as well. Haven't even finished going through the box. Finally got some of the original 90's EU figures, Thrawn,  Dark Empire Luke, Mara Jade,  young Emperor and a Sentinel (had one already, MOC). They are decent, Luke and Palpatine seem less preposed than their comic pack versions (which is why I skipped the comic pack).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Everything eBay! Scams, questions, etc...

Nike's fault for naming their shoe with a number.  :P

A few years ago, I sold some chintzy plastic NFL team football helmet collectibles once and forgot to put size (not knowing there's different sizes/scales) or that "penny" comparison photo people do. On the day the auction was ending, some guy sends a questions asking what size they were.  I replied with approximate measurements, and records showed I did. He had bid on them. Paid for them. And I shipped. Then he got buyer's remorse when he discovered they weren't the ones he collected. Threatened to open a case unless he was totally refunded including shipping. I told him my eBay messages showed I replied to his question before the auction ended, and eBay doesn't cover buyer's remorse. Never heard another thing from him or eBay.

I also think the chance of a Padme Funeral figure is around 0%...

You are probably right, Scott, but she would be ideal for Hasbro's new stance on limited articulation.  :P

MISSION SERIES: BURY PADME
includes Funeral Padme and Pallbearer Jar-Jar Binks.

When asked  they've said outright that no more The Old Republic figures are planned.

Carded Wave 2 images

No Luke or Kenobi shown. Love the paint detail on Fett's jet pack.  :P

Funny since Affleck played George Reeves ('50's Superman) in Hollywoodland (which was not that good)...Diane Lane was in that, too. Reeves was having an affair with her characters...that's right, BATMAN IS DOING SUPERMAN'S MOM!!

The Vintage Collection / Re: Vintage Figures That Need Redone

Yeah,  and why not a Stormtrooper with ball jointed wrists? Also, I can do without the removable helmet.

Wasn't happy with Hoth Leia's lack of ankles. She did run around a lot in that outfit.

Or Ackbar's ankles. He didn't run around a lot, but Ewok village dancing!

Super Battle Droid, which was recolor anyway. Need the ankles (which they'd already made), and really, a totally new more accurate, non damaged, upper body and swivel lower arms.

Gammorean Guard...not a do-over, just some tweeks. Yeah, the fur skirt issue and too many joints are tight (shoulders) or have limited motion (the hips, knees).  Also, light pipe eyes, opening jaw, toes joints, spring action waist....maybe not.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: August 17, 2013, 08:31 PM »
If you say so. For the most part, kids are gonna say "screw it" and move onto video games regardless of availability. The age at which boys quit action figures is younger than it was in the 80's.

I'm sure some people love scarcity so there's a strong secondary market, but a scarce figure just means that's more money Hasbro isn't going to have in their own pocket.

Yet, how many fansites have at least one web retailer known for gouging scarce figures as a sponsor?

Did you want a figure for $5 with your allowance? Too damn bad, we demanded better articulation and now it's $8 or $10.

Who demanded the price increase that was Comm-Tech chips? Not collectors. That was the first big jump in basic figure prices.

By this time next year, I hope Hasbro expands its "5 points of articulation" program to include collector characters, because I believe they will most likely be very happy with the results

Right, like the characters that wouldn't sell in the past when they were $5 or $6 or $7 and had more articulation, accessories, etc.? Does Pawlus remember the pegs of Ponda Boba's in the late 90's? And Rancor Keeper? Or that even not so-long ago when fickle collectors wouldn't buy readily available cool cantina aliens that were instead  recalled and shredded?

The adult collector guilt trip: If Hasbro cannot get product that kid's supposedly want to store in quantity, how are collectors to blame? Some guy bought the ONE Season 3 Ahsoka that made it to one store in a 40 mile radius of some kid who likes Star Wars? The odds were against the kid (or anyone) getting it. Hasbro didn't care to ship more. Or the store didn't care to order more.  But we are gonna dump on adult collectors in general?

The solution is the more 4 or 5 packs, 3 digs, Royal Guard, Emperor or maybe a better Jerjerrod (Mr Scowly wasn't the best figure). I suppose, you make 2 packs and make the fourth figure whoever. They'd sell as well as Bail Organa or Mon Mothma.  :P

Still got some Anakins and Windus at the closest Target near me, but some are marked $6.98 and a few $4.98...none of them show up on scanners. I'd get them for 70% off, but that's not gonna be an option, it seems, unless they manually mark them such.
