i don't know about those screen scenes... there are tons of them sitting at my toys r us right now. i think the $21.99 price point was what pushed people away... why couldn't they make them $19.99 like the old cinema scenes? i think the fact that they are over the $20 mark makes people turn away, as silly as it sounds. i know that $19.99 is basically $20, but it's all mental. if people see $19.99 they are more prone to buy something.

Well at Target stores they are $19.99 and always have been on the Screen Scenes, I think TRU decided to try and gouge a couple more bucks out of people.  I would not be surprised to see these reduced to $11.99 or something by mid summer.

Let's hope you are right Stan on your predictions, and that's a great list you came up with OCB.

And speedermike, I couldn't agree with you more.  Why in the world would Hasbro not want to produce more army-builder 3-pks?  Those things are gold!

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: A better Wampa

Yes yours looks much better than Hasbro's.  Now I think I am forced to do the same to mine.  Thanks a lot!! ;)

I got to thinking today and I am a little surprised that Hasbro doesn't take a little more advantage of this Classic Trilogy revival with some all new items.  The inclusion of old sculpts of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter is a huge letdown for me, but even more of a letdown is the lack of all-around creativity.

I love the idea of the modern-vintage figures (especially the looks of Han and Leia), but I think they could have done more in the way of variety.  Who knows, there could be a lot more in store for us than what we have seen so far.  But here are some ideas, feel free to comment and add your own ideas too!

DELUXE/ULTRA ASSORTMENT

- new Owen Lars w/ moisture vaporator

- new Death Star Trooper w/ circular Death Star console

- Rebel Technician w/ Yavin circular Death Star attack display

- Rebel Honor Guard w/ extendable watch tower

- new Bespin Han (no jacket) w/ torture device

- new Vader w/ mediation chamber

- new C3PO w/ throne and generic Ewok

- new Palpatine w/ throne and giant Death Star window

- Stormtrooper 3-pk (similar to Clonetrooper 3-pk but none lying down)

- Rebel pilot 3-pk (X-Wing, Snowspeeder, A-Wing)

- Imperial Forces 3-pk (Death Star Gunner, Imperial Technician,  grey tunic Imperial Officer)

- Jawa Droids 3-pk (Sandcrawler Droid, LIN Mining Droid, 8-armed Spider Droid)

- Cantina Patrons (Kitik Keedkak, Gotal, Elis Herot)

OK, that's probably too many Deluxes for such a short period of time, but I think most of them would sell well.  Other ideas guys?

Original Trilogy Collection / VOTC Stormtrooper
« on: February 18, 2004, 05:01 PM »
I was thinking that maybe in the 12 modern vintage figures we might see a Stormtrooper in the mix, but apparently that is not the case.

THANK GOD.

The reason I am so happy about this is because if it was better than the CT version, all hell would break loose in my marriage.  It would cost me too much money to build a whole new Imperial army since these modern vintage figures are slated to cost around $10 a pop.  And I'm still happy with the CT version and the fact that they are recarding it shows me that this is the definitive sculpt they are going to stick with, but they might tweak with the articulation in the future.

Does everyone share the same sentiments as the Wookie?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Dagobah wave
« on: February 13, 2004, 10:17 PM »
That backpack for Yoda looks so small that I don't think even his head would fit in it!

Anyway though, I like the looks of this wave.  I've always wanted a Luke like that, I think it would have been great to make the Luke and Yoda in an Ultra 2-pk like that and then release a different Luke later with repositioned arms and a new head.  Guess Hasbro wasn't on the same page as me on that one though. ;)

As for R2, I will get one, but I can easily customize my own that way (which I did).  So to me it's not overly necessary but I do think they did a good job with it.

Yoda looks a tad too tall and skinny, and yes his backpack looks like it was made for a smaller midget than Yoda.

Obi Wan is the prize of this wave though to me.  What a fantastic sculpt; I pray that we get another release of this figure without the bluish tint, so he can be a neutral posed Obi Wan from ANH as well.

Overall I think this is a great looking wave, not as exciting to me as the recent Tatoone/Jabba's Palace/Yavin waves, but still very, very nice.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Bespin wave
« on: February 13, 2004, 10:06 PM »
These figures are outstanding; I hope this trend of great quality continues into the EPIII line.

Lobot - looks very vanilla, exactly the way he should be.  I could have gone for some knee articulation, but I am not complaining

Leia - a lovely figure, very simple and well done; I will try to get a couple extra to make into custom Coruscant women citizens

CC Pilot - probably my favorite of the bunch since it's a first issue since the vintage days, and I plan on getting a squad of 8-10 of these guys.  They will look cool in dioramas for Bespin, Tatooine, Coruscant, etc.  You're right Jesse, I hope his helmet comes off; it looks like it might, and I think his arm articulation is at the standard shoulder points and probably at the ends of his gloves.

You know what makes this wave so awesome?  The pure simplicity of the figures in their poses, but the nice added articulation.  No gimmicks, just well scultped figures with useful articulation.  I do hope they include a 4th figure in the wave at least, I could go for the Jeromy Bulloch as an Imperial Officer or a head variation to the Bespin Guard.

Found 'em all today.  Nearly perfect figures as far as I'm concerned.  I want a couple more Landos for customs.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Army Builders-An itch you just cant scratch!
« on: February 3, 2004, 12:55 AM »
Yep, it's all about the dioramas.  My armies have grown through leaps and bounds over the past few years.  I like to line them up in movie-esque dioramas similar to niubniub does at his site (I started the diorama kick in late 1995).

Anyway, here's a rundown as close to as accurate as possible on my army-builders:

IMPERIALS

POTF2 Commtech Stormtrooper - 150
SAGA Stormtrooper Concept - 4
POTJ Sandtrooper (dirty)- 10
POTJ Sandtrooper (clean) - 8
POTJ Scout Trooper (dirty) - 12
POTJ Scout Trooper (clean) - 6
SAGA Snowtrooper - 10
POTF2 Snowtrooper - 10
POTF2 Deluxe Snowtrooper - 4
SAGA Imperial Officer - 20
POTJ Imperial Officer - 10
POTF2 Imperial Gunner - 10
POTF2 Death Star Trooper - 10
POTF2 TIE Pilot - 10
SAGA Royal Guard - 12
SAGA Dignitary #1 - 6
SAGA Dignitary #2 - 6
POTF2 AT-ST Driver - 10
POTJ R2Q5 - 4
POTF2 Death Star Droid - 2
POTF2 Captain Piett - 6
Custom Imperial Technician - 2
SAGA Imperial 4pk - 4

That's just a start, my darn Seperatist Army has over 75 red Battle Droids, 20 Super Droids, 20 Destroyers, etc.

Yikes I spend a lot of dough on this stuff... ;)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Frustrations of displaying your figures...
« on: January 18, 2004, 10:13 PM »
That does suck.  Luckily I don't think I've had something that aggravating happen...yet.

Personally I display all of my stuff in dioramas too, but using the huge heavy duty shelving units from LOWES/HOME DEPOT.  They work out well, and rarely do any figures fall over because the shelves are extremely sturdy.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Clone 3-pk ...does it suffice?
« on: January 16, 2004, 12:15 AM »
Anyone know if these are still shipping?  I assume that if they are, they probably won't be showing up at Target considering they clearanced all of their CW 3-pks out for $2.48 (found a Droid Army for that price ;)).

Since the Seperatist Spider Droid is still new to the CW packaging, one would think they would still have more coming out.  Anyone know?  I'd really like to find another green pack...

« on: January 15, 2004, 11:08 PM »
Agreed.  I thought there was talk a while back about Hasbro rehashing these with new figures, but I haven't heard anything recently.  I wonder why they didn't just have them come out with figures in the first place?

I don't have too much of a need for a Zam in the speeder since you can't really see her in there anyway, but I really wish they would make a Kenobi and Anakin that would look cool in the yellow speeder.

Yeah, I see what you are saying Muftak, but I don't think things are ever going to be what we want.  At least we don't have another POTJ Ellors Madak/Bespin Guard/Ketwol/Sabe ordeal on our hands (yet).

While I do like the theme-based waves, I wish they would always include at least one army-builder per wave.  Even if it's a repacked CT Stormtrooper or SA Clonetrooper.  I don't like seeing a situation like the CW first assortment with a ton of Yoda, Anakin and ARC Troopers (4 of each) in a case.  I wish they would make the cases something like this:

- 2 Han Solo
- 2 Princess Leia
- 2 Chewbacca
- 2 3PO
- 4 Stormtroopers

You know, at least 5-6 figures per wave.  I'm not sure what an idea formula should be, but you get the idea.

....Hermi....Odle.....

My name is Matt and I love screen scenes.  My only concern is that it's a store exclusive.  I hate store exclusives, it's so easy for the scalper types to pick up whole cases and clear the shelves for other collectors.

My thoughts EXACTLY.  It's not wise to argue with a Dresselian.
