Here's me with my daughter at Celebration 3 (Come to think of it, I think this was taken right after Esther's soft goods lesson).

Chewie for your head, what about the Anakin head from the Jedi vs. Sith battlepack with new hair?  I think your jawline is similar.

This threads got me thinking I may join in... just trying to figure out what head would work...

wow! I love the spaceport -- is it scratch built or did you use an existing playset as a base -- I'd love to hear more about it.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Clones...in capes!
« on: August 10, 2005, 09:15 AM »
I still can't figure out where the cape I put on Bacara goes. I've searched all the vintage SW sites and YoJoe, and I found out it doesn't belong to either of those lines.
Glad you liked them.  :)

It might be a Robin Hood Prince of Thieves cape -- I'm just not sure which figure.

The problem is finding people that have the skills to do photo-editing and html coding.  Most people who have those skills in the community would rather run their own sites.  Even when you have a site management program like Frank has, it makes it more difficult because you need people trained in those programs to help which limits the pool even further.

That being said Chewie, I'm planning to bring back theJawa's custom section again later this year -- if you have the photo editing and html skills and want to help, I won't turn it down  :P

I don't think people really appreciate the amount of work it takes to maintain a gallery like that.    One of my biggest frustrations working on thejawa.com'c custom section was maintaining the gallery.  The majority of images people send in need to be edited in some way - usually the file size is too big, the picture is out of focus or the image wasn't cropped.  This needs to happen to minimize the data going onto the server and to allow the largest image sizes possible for folks to view them.

Add to that the time to make a thumbnail image and then the time to code the html pages and it is an enourmous commitment of time for someone, who is volunteering their time, to make to get a single gallery up.

Until I started doing it, I used to wonder why it took Dan so long.  Now that I know what it involved, I have the deepest respect for what Dan does accomplish.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Psycho's Customs - Updated 8/05 WIP

Wow -- I find this custom absolutely stunning.  Great use of the Shmi head and great parts selection.

My only comment is there is great texture on those legs, but nothing is being done to bring it out.  At a bare minium I suggest considering dry-brushing highlights onto them.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Re: Diorama Bits...

Y'know, if someone really wants ideas on a small item to mass produce and sell, the red stuffed cantina chairs would be great.  They could be sold as "Space Lounge Chairs."  One could also make the little round bar tables with the lights in the center.

You mean like these?

I made these a while back.  The originals for these were made from pvc and sculpey and the final versions are casts from the sculpts.  I've always been iffy on whether people would really want these...

;D I feel honored to have made the thread...

As Chewie pointed out, this isn't too difficult a figure to make if you have a dremmel.  The worst part is the cost of the CW Asajj Ventress figure for parts.

I should point out you need to shorten luminara's neck to make the head look right.

Parts list for the figure is:

Aurra Sing - modded head
Luminara - modded body, skirt, legs and arms (minus gloves)
Asajj Ventress - gloves, plastic skirt (heavily cut), lightsabers, cape

I originally was doing this figure just for ebay, but I've fallen in love with it so much that I'll make another for myself (assuming this one sells).  I am planning on changing the plastic skirt to the Jedi vs. Sith Asajj skirt (with similar mods) so that it has the cross-hatching pattern.

And as for the cardback, I'm glad to share it if anyone wants it and plan to pass the template onto FFURG once the auction is over.

and enjoys it more than i ever would (having it sit on a shelf, unseen, and probably dusty.)

Exactly why I decided to start selling some :).

And Chewie, what else is RS for if not to pimp out work... it's not like anyone ever gives constructive criticism on customs there.  It's mainly... that's kewl  :)

:-P

that do customize for all the right reasons.   :P

hmmm.... there's morality to customizing?  Sorry.  I couldn't resist. ;D

I'm curious -- do you view your custom figures as art?  How about the others who find it hard to sell your customs.   I'm just curious if that plays into this as well.

Do you guys get unsolicied offers to buy your figures? I've gotten a few recently. The problem is trying to collect the money. They offer huge amount of money for customs but never seem to have the money 'right away'. Why do people offer and then flake? I mean, if you don't have the money or have to wait until 'pay day' to send a check maybe you shouldn't be buying them.

Paul,

I have never had someone follow through on an unsolicited offer.  Therefore I never count on a purchase from those.

In the past I had never understood selling your items on ebay, but recently I've had a change of heart.  For me, I enjoy the act of creating custom figures and dioramas.  But I don't necessarily have the space or funds for the volume I like to produce.  Nor am I so attached to them, I can't give them up -- they are, after all, things.  My solution is to make some specifically for ebay.  So long as they sell for more than the cost of my materials, I'm in a win-win situation since I've been able to create extra without costing me anything.  Any extra I make goes into projects I'm keeping for myself (such as the Felucia diorama).  I'm not looking to make any sort of profit, but rather to find a way I can continue my hobby of customizing without creating a strain on my finances.  In fact, if I was trying to operate this as a business, I'd be losing money based on labor costs :).

That would be savy move.
