Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Goodbye KB Toys
« on: March 18, 2018, 08:10 PM »
KB Toys mostly sucked.  High prices and weak selection was double threat to their revenue.

The brand name might be worth a little, so if they aimed for strip malls and slightly larger stores it might be worth the trouble, but if nobody is going to buy TRU out of bankruptcy that probably means there isn't much opportunity for KB to succeed.

I think it’s just semantics. Hasbro could sell a bulk amount to a different legal entity like hasbrotoyshop.com or some temporary holding company and not be in breach of their terms.

I’m concerned about that exclusive Zuckuss.

I think it all depends on timing.

If the item hasn't been made then it'll get delayed/cancelled.

If its been made and is ready to ship from the factories, Hasbro will find some other retailer to take it.

If its already been shipped and is sitting in TRU warehouses somewhere, then who knows what'll happen.

I kinda agree with Jeff.  Hasbro likely has some contingency plans set up so that this won't be a miserable failure.

I would add that Hasbro's magic 5000 number isn't legally binding in any way.  This is just the target they've set that meets their supposed internal requirements.  They have complete control over saying that if we reach 4200 that it is good enough.  The only challenge they run in to is that it might hamper future kickstarter type things where people don't feel like they need to throw their money in the pot because Hasbro will lower the number.

They could also choose to not be fully transparent on this either.  For example they could juice the numbers to reach 5000 and then after the fact say "we had some returns, etc. and have a few extras available" if people want to purchase them after the close of the kickstarter.  They don't have to tell us that "a few" = 800.  Or they could just fake the numbers to 5000 but only make 4200.  Either way I don't really care as I'll get a Sail Barge for $500.

It may temper their enthusiasm for future projects, but hopefully they went in to this with a willingness to learn and explore the boundaries of this new channel.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

Anybody checked out the options for upcoming Blu-Ray release to know who has the best deal and what pack-ins are the coolest?

I had to watch the epilogue a couple of times to get it all.

I’m not sure that I like the thought of Ahsoka clearly being alive, or even Filoni saying Thrawn and Ezra are still alive.

I struggled a bit with the Zahn Trilogy being cast aside.  I expected Ruhk to live and Thrawn to escape so the trilogy could happen, but I guess the whole Luke / Mara Jade stuff obviously can’t happen.

I feel with Ahsoka still being alive it kind of cheapens the whole Luke / Yoda - that boy is our last hope, no there is another, his sister bit.  Hell, if Ahsoka is still alive she has some skills too and could maybe take down Vader and the Emperor.

Unless they’ve got plans for Ahsoka and Ezra in an upcoming series (live action TV), I would have preferred to have them to be assumed dead.

Ultimately the kids and I really liked the series and they were bummed it was coming to an end.  Hopefully they get something else ramped up for the fall.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 4K TV's

My video tech skills are weak (I'm an old man).  Can standard Blu-Ray even output 4K resolution, or is it 1080?

I'm curious if you can tell a big difference between a 4k monitor and a 1080 monitor.  Is there any normal media that is at 4k?

Weird, because nothing else about the movie seemed condensed.

+1

They should have taken that approach with Canto Bight, etc.

Definitely a bit more gore this year.

Eight days ago we had the disemboweling scene too.

I wasn't bothered by either, but my wife watches the show too and is okay with the cartoony violence the show normally has, but is struggling with the increased gore now.

I went Death Star, Hoth OR Yavin Rebel Base, Cantina.

Exactly what I want:
- Death Star
- Mos Eisley cantina
- Yavin rebel base
- Ewok Villiage / Imperial Bunker playset

Jakku Quadjumper

I think this would be cool.  We don't know anything about it, but it looks like a cool ship that would be a heck of a lot more fun than a Canto Bight Police Speeder *yawn*.

I'm not that much of a carded/packaged collector anymore.

Agreed.  I would prefer Hasbro spent their efforts in other areas as I will not purchase a repackaged figure I already own.

I'd be kind of interested in a Zeta-class cargo shuttle (the Rogue One shuttle the rebels used to land on Scariff).

I'm not sure I'm ever going to see Rex and Rey (Island Journey) at retail and finally bought them off EE.com (with the JD link).  Not the cheapest option, but I'm not comfortable waiting on these two.

"Jedi Night" was a bit of a gut punch.  I was not prepared for that.

*trying to avoid spoilers for those who care*

My kids kept asking me, "did that really just happen?  Did it? Did it?"
