The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)
« on: October 10, 2017, 10:56 AM »
I've watched it half a dozen times and I think this trailer is kind of weak.  I've got confidence that the movie will be good, but this trailer doesn't get me as excited as it should.

One small gripe - is it necessary to have the Falcon fly through an enclosed "tunnel" in every movie?  Maybe that is a standard "I've got a bad feeling about this" element of the movies, but its getting stale.

I like the pre-sales.  I've taken the kids to the 7PM opening showing for TFA and RO.  Both sold out within hours of going online months ahead of time.

Maybe it depends on the theater you go to, but I live in suburbia and the crowds are very respectful.  There are a handful of fans dressed up, but its not hardcore - its mostly families.

Got mine yesterday.

The outside box was crushed but the figure card/bubble were all in great shape.  I ripped the packaging apart and put the figures on the shelf  >:D

Just checked this and the shipping date is now 12/1 (pre-order not available).

Very cool!

I like the stands that you're using.  What are they?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Comic Book Thread
« on: September 19, 2017, 06:40 PM »
I've had my Star Wars comics stacking up lately and going unread, and as a result have considered stopping my subscription service for these.  Its not a huge amount of money, and not a huge amount of space, but I'm not sure why I still get them.

I think half the problem is that I've grown frustrated with "how comics work".  Maybe this worked better in the past, maybe I'm just getting old, maybe I've got too much other stuff going on, but I don't think they've changed their model in the 45+ years I've been alive.

I don't like getting a monthly story snippet that is part of a larger story arc that I last read 30+ days ago and won't read again for 30+ days.  Nobody reads a novel a couple chapters a month taking six months to finish it.  I think I would be much happier about reading comics if they could move from a monthly model to a quarterly larger bound story arc where they would combine four normal monthly issues in to one larger "book".  You could still string these together to have a continuing title, but I grow frustrated with reading the stories in small bites.

TV and cable doesn't work this way - Game of Thrones doesn't show one episode a month on HBO.  They build them all up and show them back to back for two months.  I feel comics need to move to this model as my attention span can't handle the way they've continue to operate.

And let's not even get into the absurdity of the "TRU Tax" on LEGO sets.

This part just blows my mind.  You gotta be in a huge hurry or just ignorant to pay an extra 10% to buy Legos at TRU.  Even when they do a BOGO 40% off you're still generally better off just buying from Amazon or Target with a red card.

The only time I get Legos at TRU is when they've got an exclusive that is interesting, and even then I often buy "their exclusive" via Lego.com to get double VIP points.

I saw this all over the place on Force Friday (each store seemed to get a case ?8?), but by Force Saturday they were all sold out.

I ended up passing on it to start with, but assume like all Target exclusives this will be easy to come by as they restock.  Glad to see they're restocking as I've been watching for this and haven't seen it restock.  Although most of the Targets around here are still packed with the Rogue One AT-ACT Driver.  I'm not sure if they're sharing DCPIs or not.

Do we think Disney really cares that much about the timing of merchandising?  I know it will make things really difficult for Disney's merchandising partners, but do you think there are penalties or other things in the licensing contract that would put inventory carrying costs on to Disney, or something like that?

I get the feeling that Hasbro is mostly at the mercy at Disney's decisions.

I know this is mostly a toy forum and we're all toy collectors, but I think Disney is in the drivers seat and Hasbro is just along for the ride.

The Last Jedi / Re: TLJ 3.75" First Order Playset?

Surprisingly, these seem to have sold through at some of my local Targets, or were maybe shoved in back and not given shelf space.

I'm interested in getting this, but I didn't pull the trigger on this so will be watching for future deals.

Any whispers on when pre-sale tickets are going to take place?

Have we heard anymore about this and when its supposed to be out?

I think its a great strategy to focus on the OT, but would like to see them get all new things like Hammerhead, Walrusman, Snaggletooth, Ewoks, Endor Leia, etc. than some weak spirit variation of Obi-Wan.

Got the Boba and C-3PO exclusives, but passed on the Vader as I'm trying to skip as many variations as I can in the 6" line.

I couldn't be less interested in this release.

I don't know if Walgreen's has a choice of what they take, or if they're only allowed to take variations on existing figures.  It would be nice to see them get all new exclusives (like GameStop, Target, etc.).
