Solo: A Star Wars Story / Retail Prices/Sales/Discounts
« on: April 11, 2018, 05:04 PM »
Anybody know if Target is doing any kind of Force Friday like promotion with the role out of these toys like they've done in the past?  e.g. $10 of $50, or $25 off $100 in spend?

Star Wars Anthology / Solo (SPOILER FREE)
« on: January 8, 2018, 03:09 PM »
I know we're all scratching our heads as to if Solo will still come out in May of this year or get pushed out, but assuming that it is coming out in May, when do you think we would find this out and see a trailer?

I get the thought that they want to let TLJ have some room to run on its own without confusing viewers with another pending option, but at some point they'll need to start promoting this movie.

Its hard for me to believe they could wait until after mid-February to start promoting this, but I'm no Hollywood expert.

Thoughts?

LEGO / LEGO 2018
« on: January 3, 2018, 02:00 PM »
I'm not sure I've got the full list, but the first batch for 2018 is a bit underwhelming.

  • 75193 - Millennium Falcon Microfighter - $10
  • 75194 - First Order TIE Fighter Microfighter- $10
  • 75195 - Sky Speeder vs. First Order Walker Microfighters - $20
  • 75196 - A-Wing vs. TIE Silencer Microfighters - $20
  • 75197 - First Order Specialists Battle Pack - $15
  • 75198 - Tatooine Battle Pack - $15
  • 75199 - General Grievous' Combat Speeder - $30
  • 75200 - Ahch-To Island - $30
  • 75201 - First Order AT-ST - $40
  • 75202 - Defense of Crait - $85
  • 75205 - Mos Eisley Cantina - $40

There are also some brickheads and figures too, but I didn't include those.

The only one I'm kind of interested in is the Defense of Crait (has a ski speeder), but that price point is tough.  They've stuck a bunch of extra doo-dads in there to drive the price up.  It should probably be in the $40 range.  I'll probably grab the MicroFighter 2-packs too.

The rest are re-hashed, or just not that interesting.  Usually LEGO has at least 50% new and interesting sets with each release, so I'm a little disappointed, although the fall and winter 2017 releases were chock full of all new TLJ sets that I'm still working to get at a good price.

The Last Jedi / TLJ Movie / Figure and Vehicle Choices - SPOILERS
« on: December 15, 2017, 12:52 PM »
It seems Hasbro didn't release any figures and toys that were either not in the TLJ movie or were blink and you'll miss them moments.

I don't know if Hasbro decided to take fewer risks with their first couple of waves of figures/toys this year, and just stuck with the mostly repeat characters, or if they had better collaboration with Disney this time around.

I've only seen the movie once, but I can't really think of any major missed figures, or figures that were made that shouldn't have.  This includes the 3.75" and 6" lines.  Same goes for the vehicles.  You could probably argue the Canto Bight Police Speeder was not important enough or interesting enough to be made, or maybe argue we should have got a "fathier" (Canto Bight beast horse thinger) instead.

In previous movies I've sometimes (cynically) felt that a vehicle / costume change was done solely to create a new toy, but other than the Finn/Rose Imperial disguises (which was relevant to the plot) there really didn't seem to be any extra speeders, beasts, etc. that were thrown in to the movie (other than the whole Canto Bight tangent).

I was originally a little annoyed by all the Praetorian Guard weapon variants leading up to the movie, but after seeing the movie I'm all in on tracking these down and having a full army of them.

Probably my only slight gripe is with some of the 6" exclusive figures (Rey and Luke) that come with an environmental base (and softgoods).  I was kind of hoping that the base they were shipped with were going to have some iconic scenes associated with them, but the bases are not really all that relevant.  I would have preferred they saved a few bucks and didn't give us a base, but gave us a semi-deluxe softgoods treatment with extra accessories.

Jocasta's Reading Room / The Last Jedi Novelization
« on: December 15, 2017, 10:20 AM »
Anybody read this?  Just curious if it adds anything to the movie storyline.

I read TFA and the differences between the book and the movie weren't significant.

Not sure where this thread should go, so feel free to move it.

While I like these figures, and do like the focus on the women of Star Wars, this line does not seem to be doing well at the Targets I stop at.  I'm not sure if they should have been moved out of the Star Wars aisle in to the "girl" aisle.

I know this was a multimedia sort of launch with books, mini-web episodes, etc., but I don't feel like the push has made much of an impact.

Its really too bad as I think these things are kind of neat.  Not sure if these should have been a sub-line of the 6" figures to pull in more collectors, or what.

Is anybody seeing these move at their local stores?  My local Targets have A TON of these on the shelf.

Rogue One / Imperial Assault Hovertank
« on: July 21, 2017, 04:54 PM »
Watched the SWAN livestream of the Hasbro panel.  Good stuff including an Imperial Assault Hovertank.  I didn't catch the release timing for this, but it looked sweet!

Any The Beatles fans out there?  Awesome A New Hope themed parody remake of The Beatles entire Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band.  Really clever and well done.

Article on how two guys spent five years working on this.  Wow.

Rogue One / Nerf
« on: March 7, 2017, 04:15 PM »
Any of you scruffy looking nerf herders try out the "glowstrike" feature on some of the newer Nerf guns?  Just curious if the glow in the dark feature works well or not.

Anybody know if Walgreens is getting any more 6" exclusives?  We heard at Toy Fair that Target and GameStop were getting exclusives, but what about Walgreens?

The Sequel Trilogy / Star Wars Episode VIII (SPOILER FREE)
« on: February 15, 2017, 02:25 PM »
Figured we should get this started for those of us that want to avoid as many spoilers as possible.

Does anyone know when the official teaser is going to be released?

Other Collectibles / Air Hogs
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:54 PM »
Anybody ever buy any of the Air Hogs remote control vehicles?

My son wants a remote control airplane for Christmas, but was thinking of getting one of these since they seem like they should be a little more stable and forgiving for novices.

Any thoughts, or advice on which models are good/bad?  It looks like there are a lot of different Star Wars options at very different price points.

Star Wars Anthology / Rogue One (SPOILER FREE)
« on: May 18, 2016, 03:09 PM »
As usual I'm trying to avoid significant spoilers, but still want to chat about mainstream knowledge around this film.  Figured we should have a spoiler and non-spoiler thread.

Gentle Giant / First Order Stormtrooper Mini-Bust
« on: December 3, 2015, 05:14 PM »
Saw this on Yakface the other day - Gentle Giant First Order Stormtrooper mini-bust - but thought I would start a discussion here.

I've got a majority of the mini-busts that they've made over the years, but between the massive drop in releases and the increase in prices - I think I'm done.  They've maybe released two or three items all year in this line, and now the price appears to be $120 each  :o :o  These mini-busts were in the $70 range just a year or so ago.

While I think this mini-bust looks sweet, I think I'm done.  If I'm going to drop that kind of money I think I would rather just get the Sideshow version for $210 that is super poseable with lots of accessories.

Does anyone still collect these mini-busts?
