I'm looking at it right now, actually. It's been snowing like heck down(or up, depending on where you are) here in Mass. :)
The less snow I have to shovel the better ;)
Same forecast for us on Thursday. Whee! :'(
Brrr... :-\ (yeah, I know - us SoCal'ers are sissies for thinking that 50 degrees is freezing cold... ::))
2 feet plus from last Friday to Sunday. Needless to say, I laid on my ass all weekend.
Now the problem is, we have nowhere to put this ****. Boston used to dump all their snow into the harbor, but they can't do that anymore. Now everything's piled up into big snowbanks - 8 feet high in some cases.
but not as gold as New England the last few weeks
Why don't I move to California?
being in jersey myself, i said the same thing this morning, as i was walking in the 8 inches of snow. but then i thought about it, and said to myself, it's better to have to deal with the possibility of snow for like 5 months out of the year than to deal with the possibility of an earthquake 12 months out of the year, no? earthquakes are bad... i'm sure i'd get real tired of setting up all my figures every time another one hit ;D
Why I remember walking to school in -80 K with howling winds, 8 foot snowdrifts and uphill. Both ways. :-*

Thank you Canada,Canadian Cold front intersecting with gulf rains, winter storm tonight and tomorrow.
Thanks,I was wondering how long it would take to have school cancelled, and I think this one might do it. :)
Well, we're supposed to get another 1 - 3" of snow in the next couple of days, and right now it's a brisk 10 degress fahrenheit. Nice, huh?
We were supposed to wake up to 4-5" this morning, I woke up and looked outside, 1/2" at most, I laughed and shook my fist in the air "Weatherman!!!"
Who predicts this stuff?
What's snow? ???
Is that kinda like beach sand, but white?

I shoveled the sidewalk 8 times today!
You're still warmer than us ya big baby. We aren't supposed to crack the teens until next weekend. Snow today, snow tomorrow. Then back to sub-Arctic temps. :-*
Okay, this is rediculous. I like snow fall as much as the next guy, but when it falls and NEVER melts I start to loose my patience for mother nature.
I have a good 3 feet of snow/ice in my front yard and it hasn't snowed in about 3weeks.

It rained here a bit the past couple days. Absolutely dreadful...
Nice and sunny again today though, so maybe a visit to the beach is in order...
Matt don't forget you could go to the mountains and enjoy the snow for a little bit (temps in the 60's or so) and then go warm up a bit at the beach. ;D
Ouch, I think Brent now owns your testicles!
He nailed you worse than Kobe Bryant alledgedly nailed that :-X
Prick.
Ouch, I think Brent now owns your testicles!
From what I hear testicle would be more approprite.
Oh my gentle Jesus it got really warm out here today I looked at the temp when I got home and it was up to 37o .
Okay sorry Matt but can we actually call it real snow since most of the time its man made.Matt don't forget you could go to the mountains and enjoy the snow for a little bit (temps in the 60's or so) and then go warm up a bit at the beach. ;D
Sssshhhh!!!! Be quiet Tom! These guys aren't supposed to know that there's any snow in SoCal! It'll ruin our whole image... ;)
It's in the 60's here. Cool enough to walk around with jeans and a T-Shirt...
flurries from mcdonalds?
And as a side note I got both my testicles thanks you very much ;)
It's still in the 60's here. But it's pouring down rain.
One to two nches of thw white stuff tonight. :D
More over its the one year aniversary of me getting stuck in DC during the blizzard!!!!
The suns wrath has been unleashed upon the land and all the snow is going away.
We just got around 8" of heavy wet snow today...that was a fun shoveling experience this morning >:(
We just got around 8" of heavy wet snow today...that was a fun shoveling experience this morning >:(WE got the northern tip of it. Cold enough that the snow was actually light and fluffy, but combine it with the crap on the road and it was slush ::) Made everything look nice and white, except the roads and my car. Not sure how much fell, but not 8". Maybe 5.
The snow finally goes away............but now my town is flooding. God hates me. :-X
Damm, a high of 12°C today. 8) My Ark's not even ready yet! ;D
When does spring spring up there?
Been in the 90's all week here in L.A. 8)
Plus, we've got the Lakers. :-*
The wind was blowing here pretty good last night & the snow was wet. I just finished shoveling & had to put some salt on the walk. >:(
Man, you people are getting dumped on! :-\

Down here we have thundersnows, basicly thunderstorms with snow instead of rain. Pretty cool sometimes.
Sweat off about 5 pounds just driving down the street to Target today at lunch too (no comments from the peanut gallery please!)...
How hot has it been in So Cal this week...look no further than what Matt has been forced to lounge next to the fan in!
I don't wanna know whats he's doing with his hand. ;D
On that note, the temp here is 1°C & going to -6°C tonight. Oh, BTW, Merry Christmas. Its bloody snowing! >:( :-\ :'(

Ewwwww. "Bloody" snow. That sounds yucky, but promising for Hoth battlefield aftermath photos.
Ice pellets fell yesterday. Frost forecast for tonight. Currently 2 C outside, that's about 36 F :'(
I'd freaking LOVE for it to stay snowy for 5 months here! I like cold weather, but I suppose that is due to my warm climate, opposities attract and such...
No snow here. Just what's left of the hurricane.
My family down in NC had their bridge washed out. My uncle Dale is stranded at the house while my aunt and cousin are at Dales dad's house.

It got down to 0°C this morning. First time I had to turn the furnace on. :'(
I see my post last year was Nov 3rd 2003, still no snow here, but its cold today. I hope it snows when Colman is here next week :)
Bah, we've had snow for 3 weeks. We had one hell of a start to winter, got at least 6 inches the 1st day, and it's still here. It melts just enough during the nicer days, but when it freezes in the evening look out! Me no likey sliding through intersections! I ordered a set of Michelin X-Ice's for the car - that should improve things dramatically. I hope. :-\
There still saying its going to get warmer by the end of the week & forecasting a brown Christmas!
Brian points out one of my pet peeves...during "Sweeps" month on TV any little chance for snow turns in to the weather event of the century and forecasts tend to double their predictions.Last Night's Forecast: 2-3"...actual amount in my yard today: 0" ::)
"Oh...It's Going to Dump 6" of the White Stuff on us, travel will be impossible, stock up on Groceries and TP, and keep it right here for all of your Storm of the Century Weather Coverage"
Bah...
Weird fall here so far again. We usually get some snow and it usually stays, its raining right now and there's no chance for snow for a while
Extreme northeastern Alabama had flurries around 1 hour ago. Sadly, I don't think it'll make it that far south, Brad.
Holy ****! You have to be kidding me! The wind just picked up like crazy & a storm is coming in.
Damn Albertans, always sending their **** our way. Next time it storms, send us the nice gentle snow, but you can keep the freakin' 60km/hr winds, OK? :P
Thats a great video. :)
This one is for the times you had to clean your vehicle off! ;D

Dale, ask Henrik Wulff Rassmussen to translate!
Help us HWR you're are only hope!!!
-2 F here. Not sure what it is in Celsius, since I bombed every science class I ever took and I'm American.
Upcoming forecast looks positively balmy, but that's just long range BS.
Summer plainly forgot residents of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Across the West, it was the coldest May to August on record over the past 57 years. In fact, Winnipeg's summer was the coldest since probably the last ice age. With records dating back to 1872, May to August averaged 13.4°C in the Manitoba capital, almost a full degree colder than the previous record. The summer's worst moment might have been on August 18, when snow pellets fell in downtown Winnipeg and winds blew at 80 km/h. But, by then, most Winnipegers had given up on summer anyway. Luckily, September turned out to be warmer than either June or August - a first for Winnipeg!
Sadly, disaster came early on August 20 when a widespread killing frost struck parts of south and central Saskatchewan and Manitoba, making it one of the earliest major frosts in 50 years. The combination of cold air, light winds and clear skies - the deadly three ingredients for hoar frost - were just right for a white sheath to coat rooftops, windshields and lush fields. Low temperature records spanning over 100 years were broken at, among others, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Yorkton. Broadview was the coldest spot at -2.9°C. The duration of frost and the immaturity of the grain made the crop especially vulnerable. "What a year," said one farm expert. "Frost has appeared each and every month somewhere in the southern Prairies."
We got more, but the neighbour came over and did our driveway with the snowplow, so it was relatively painless. Still haven't seen an amount, but it had to be less than forecast, so maybe about 3" more. Sides of the driveway are stacked with snow, about the same height as the roof of my car now. Haven't seen snow like this locally since 1997 and we had a pretty darn major flood around Winnipeg and southern Manitoba that year :-\
Not too bad here, -19°C and lows of mid to late -20's. Just some skiff of snow though I do have to brush off the snow on my truck from the other day, not much. Just don't like it when the wind picks up... (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/figuren/a014.gif)
Alberta Clipper, blame Canada! :-\
Bring back my cold weather :-\
hmi: love the new avatar!
And we still have a 1/4" of ice pellets on the ground...weird weird weird
Oooh... we're colder than Canada!
I think we have about 10-12 inches of this **** here.
I didn't go anywhere yesterday, but I did today. The roads aren't that bad, it's just the parking lots at Target and Wal-Mart that are horrendous.
Cool! I'm almost like you guys now! 8)
:P
I'd also like to note that when I was out in Minnesota a couple months ago, that it was actually WARMER than SoCal at that time. Very disappointing. I think you guys must all be lying about this "snow" stuff you keep babbling about... ::)
I'll be down to San Diego in 2006, good enough?
I'll be down to San Diego in 2006, good enough?
Really? When? What for? Bugs?
LMK, and we'll definitely get together! It's about 2 1/2 hours away, but I can probably manage. Assuming the "all the beer you want" offer is still on the table! Or does that only apply to Canada? :P

No wind chill at the moment, so it's positively balmy ::)
I live in Winnipeg and get stuff delivered to Carman, so it stays nice and warm and DRY in the post office until I go get it. Be careful what you ask for.
Well, there might be the hiding-it-from-the-wife factor mixed in there as well, but most of my intentions are honourable :P
But yeah, aside from Hurricanes/Tornadoes, we seem to have a penchant out here for natural disasters. :-\
(house is OK, so far) ;)
Yikes. Keep safe, OK? But if you do need to evacuate, don't use this road: :o

Monday's forecast was 3-6" of snow, last night they were talking 1-3"...as it stands, they now say less than an inch. Damn I hate that...really...its your ******* job bastards
We've already had our high today, it should be below 0 oF for the next 3 days, warming up to 5 oF on Monday :o
They said today we're in for the longest cold snap in 10 years here. I remember the last one. I was still at the U of Minn and had to walk about a mile to campus every day.
14°C
Overcast. Light rain showers.
It's like Spring here today! This is why Westerners hate Toronto :-*
TEMP -26°C (-14°F)It was freeze your nuts off cold out there this morning...brr
FEELS LIKE -35°C (-31°F)
WIND W 11 km/h
Car won't start! >:(
(I was going to plug it in last night, but I forgot :().
Had to push it into the garage after the wife left, so it's warming up now though...
Jeff
Freezing rain - not cool Dale. (er, pardon the pun). They're calling for that here on Thursday. Talk about one extreme to the other - Going from -50oC with the windchill to above zero in 5 days? Is -10 so much to ask for? (Actually, I know it is, but I guy can dream...)
The Cold Snap from hell is finally over...back to the 20's today, whew!
Just a fun drive to work and on the way home. >:(
Yesterday got to -6.3°C and now it's -18°C. We got more snow than they forecasted, it was like driving on mashed potatoes. Roads are the ***** and polished with black ice and covered with snow.
The temp rises tonight and tomorrow zero then plus 2 on Sunday. More great winter driving! >:(
Blast! The freezing rain never came to fruition and with it my hopes of delayed school are dashed.
Yard, what yard. It's covered in crap! Your driveway looks more like your making a Hockey rink! :P
The roads here are a real mess, and it's supposed to get worse as the day progresses.
Kevin
The weather sure has been nice here lately with temperatures above normal. No snow to be found except the large mounds from snow removal. But alas it was not to last long. :'(
Right now it's -5°C Overcast. Light snow. Then... :-\
Wednesday, Light snow, high -11°C. Low -17°C.
Thursday, Flurries, high -6°C. Low -12°C.
Friday, Flurries, high -4°C. Low -14°C.

I hate the doom and gloom head for the hills false alarms the most though. Especially living here in a northern state where large snowfalls are common
Prediction Wednesday: 3"-6" Thursday through Friday
This Morning: 5"-7" Thursday through Saturday
Noonish: STORM OF THE CENTURY 7"-13" Head for you ******* bunker!
As of right now: No flakes, now predicting 3"-6" again and if that I say. 1" possible by morning here
Those bastards. Damn them all straight to weather hell.
"Oh, "IT" tracked south"
"Oh, "IT" didn't get enough moisture"
"Oh, are predictions are only good for 2 hours"
I hate the doom and gloom head for the hills false alarms the most though. Especially living here in a northern state where large snowfalls are common
It's raining and in the 50's here. Doesn't feel like May at all. Oh well, I guess this means higher temperatures for June and July. ::)
How's the weather? Sucks ****. Remember INdy? I brought it home and it hasn't left yet >:(
Between 100 mm and 170 mm of rain has pounded some water-logged communities since Sunday, forcing several areas to declare a state of emergency.
Last night was quite possibly the wildest lightning storm I've ever seen. I sat and watched it for almost an hour last night, which was really fun because the power went out and there was complete darkness in between lightning strikes. 8)
It was an incredibly hot day, 32oC (about 90oF), so a storm was expected, but that just blew me away. Our patio was covered in branches and acorns from the trees this morning, so the winds were gusting pretty high.
Anyone else love watching rain/thunder/lightning storms?
Good ribs though, good booze, and Deep Purple playing was nice too.
Since opening the pool...
September 8th? How many weeks do you actually get to use the pool? 8-12?
Free Beer! 8)
Bring some Big Rock.
Bring some Big Rock.
Sure, not a problem. :P ;D
(http://www.telusplanet.net/public/djustus/Southern%20Alberta%20Storms/BigRock.jpg)
I've been told by people that live up on the North Shore and the Iron Range (aka Lake Superior and points west) that Summer is at least 3-4 weeks shorter than it is in the Twin Cities.
Nice rock, smart ass. I no longer believe any story you tell about drinking.
As for Saskatchewan beer, how do you think we convince ourselves that we like living here? ::) :P
114 in Phoenix today.
I could use 114 degree weather on a day like today. I'd sweat my fat right off onto the floor.
Kevin
We've been above freezing, even up to 15oC (about 50oF or so), for the last few weeks. I'm loving it! Last year at this time we were under a feet of snow.
I'm just hoping we can make it past Halloween so we don't have to trudge through snow while trick'or'treating...
So Cal's weather is splendid 8)
But any day now it'll go in the crapper for me, Jesse and Dale :P
TONS of rain too, making up for that tail-end of Summer where we were short of rain. That's fine, but it's hell on the joints.
But any day now it'll go in the crapper for me, Jesse and Dale :P
:'(
Looks like it's game over man! :-\
I want my snow! >:(

You can rail all you want against SUV's if you live in the south (and don't own a minivan) but don't bring that argument up here.
Of course because I can't get to work today it's considered a vacation day ::) Gotta love working for the government.
Oh, that's fair. ::) I'd say you've got another reason to post in the Things that Piss you off thread.
Of course because I can't get to work today it's considered a vacation day ::) Gotta love working for the government.
We broke another record today, went to 15° C. Yesterday I think we were around 18° C. 8)
Tho by Sunday we will dip into the cooler temps, not like Winterpeg. :-X
Well get the **** out of here... Snow! 8)
Woohoo!!! I was watching the weather last night and it's possible this part of Texas could see some rain possibly Sunday and Monday.
You near Houston?
And make no mistake, Mother Earth is a bitch :P
We're right on the line of "significant accumulation" and a mix.
We're right on the line of "significant accumulation" and a mix.
Erm, not sure where you heard that bit. You're NE of the Charlotte Metro area, right?
Though in NC a "significant accumulation" is anywhere from 1-3" ::)
I find the way people freak out around here quite amusing. :PYeah, for real. It's even worse here in SC, I think. If there's a flurry, there'll be accidents.
Maybe in your neck of the woods. We've had one of the hottest, driest winters on record in down here. It's been pathetic. Yesterday the high was 84 degrees .
Yeah, the only thing our -40OC weather is good for is finally killing off all of the damn bugs that's been keeping everyone sick here too. It sounds like the deep freeze will loosen it's grip this weekend though. :)
Its the first day of Spring. The birds are huddled to keep warm, the sound of snow plow blades dancing in the air. The current condition in Colorado Springs..18 degrees, cloudy and snowing with about an inch on the ground and more on the way.
We didn't get much of a Winter. (but we NEVER do...)
We didn't get much of a Winter. (but we NEVER do...)
Yeah, but it's not Winter you Floridians have to watch out for... it's that nasty fifth season - "Hurricane Season". :-\
I'll take an 18" Snowstorm over a 160 MPH Hurricane any day... :-X
We've got some serious storms rolling though Nashville right now. I just drove home from work in the worst weather I have ever seen. They've just bumped up the number of dead from 2 to 8 from a tornado, and it sounds like the worst is still yet to come. Should be a fun night tonight :-\

Nice isnt it? Mike are you in a low level area?
Yep, it's 27°C. Man that ice cold beer tastes great.
Shut up, I'm still at work!
Nothing like a few cool brew & sweating your bag off.
You offering up some assistance there Tracy?

I just shaved my head bald. (ftp://I just shaved my head bald.)

Nope ;D Only pointing him in the right direction :-X
Right direction, linky no work. :-*
I guess it was only a matter of time now that we're in October... MN forecast calls for 40oF for a high with a chance of snow flurries on Wednesday & Thursday. :-X
Not ready for the cold yet, so I'll just hope it's one of those "over-reacting weatherman" times...

93 this afternoon. Almost put on the AC.
We're suppose to get hit with a cold spell by Friday....low of 34. :-*
I'm not surprised.
I lived there for 9 years ..Prob. 4 hours south of Rob.
We usually got our first snow like clockwork right on or near Thanksgiving then again in January/Februaryish.
One year in April we got 10 inches in one day :o! Now that surprised me even.
The Sleet/freezing rain does suck though..I remember how it bit your face when it came down at a sharp angle >:(.
My son is actually starting to complain that we're making him play outside everyday.
Soon his lightsaber training will be complete.

It is 65 and very muggy here in the Piedmont of NC. We've had thunderstorms on and off all day and are currently under a tornado watch. Its expected to be sunny and 71 tomorrow. I have a feeling we are going to pay for this in late February/early March with sleet/ice/snow mixes.
Wow, it's finally cold today!
-12oF Wind Chill this AM. It's cold out, but it's nice to get some real Minnesota winter weather finally.

One would think living here you'd be prepared and for the most part I/we are. Extra mitts, goretex overpants, hat, scarf, etc. The funny part is this cold and all I added was a thin fleece vest. It's cold out, so I need an extra layer, otherwise I'm wearing the same stuff I was when it was 40 C warmer. Acclimatization is a beautiful thing.
If you don't mind me asking, how does your little buglett handle such extreme cold?

Three times I had to read that before I could understand that she wasn't asking about his penis. :o

Shrinkage. Seinfeld didn't adequately cover the topic, of that I can assure you. Sucked. Up. Inside. 'Nuff said.

Brent -- I see you mentioned that you guys have become acclimated to the cold and prepare via extra mitts, hats, gloves, etc. If you don't mind me asking, how does your little buglett handle such extreme cold? What about waiting for the school bus in the am -- does she get to wait inside?
Honestly, I don't know if it's because our parents were trying to kill us or just didn't know any better or what,
mostly because kids are now pussies. :-X
and underneath the clothes line (hey, my Mom liked the bedding "fresh"). Then, we could go ice skating, sledding or whatever we wanted to do but we had to do it OUTSIDE. It was unheard of NOT to have snow pants.
-1°C right now, what a change in temp. Roads are slushy, mucky, filthy blah. Need lots of windshield fluid today.
Then, got a 1 hour delay on my connecting flight into OKC from the DFW. It did snow and had lotsa ice there though(OKC).
Chris needs to mow the grass again.
The neighborhood kids managed to scrape together a snowman before the sleet/ice started. Of course I had to pose our littlest one in front of the snowman to make it seem more impressive ;)

Holy Crap.
Weather warning for us: a large mass of Arctic Air and winds from the NW ranging from 15-30 KPH (10-20 mph) will cause extreme windchill values in the range of -41 to -44 C. ******* brr. :o
Currently -37C/-47C with the windchill. The forecast high for tomorrow is a balmy -28 C. Stoopid place to live.

I hear BC is looking for entomologists. ;D
We had -18F this morning, been that way most of the weekend where I don't think it got above 0.
It's 45 F here right now--supposed to get up to around 60 later in the day.
I'll be sure to think of you guys in Canasota when I'm out jogging in my Richard Simmons short-shorts this evening. . .
Watch out for these, Dorothy
I've seen reports that we're due 12"-18" of snow through Sunday...I should go out and take a pic of our bare driveway to give a comparison to what actually happens
That sleet we got overnight sounded like someone throwing sand at the window for 6 hours straight. It is a b**** to get off the driveway as well. Looking at the radar, the snow should start anytime, with 10-12 on the way. Maybe the kids will get to go sledding again after all.

we got a bit of sleet, too, but there's just a light dusting on the drive at the moment. Are we just going to get dumped on??
Severe wind warnings in Dallas today - we're having a bit of a dust storm it seems. It looks like Afghanistan outside.

I was reminded again that there is nothing more annoying than clearing the drive-way so you can go to work, turning off the snowblower and heading back into the house only to hear the damn plow roar down the street behind you. ::) >:(
Still snowing. ::)
Still snowing. ::)
You, too! I think we've had about 4" when I shoveled in the morning, 2" before leaving to work... I hate to think what it is now.
::) Stormy all day and very heavy rain.I expect Noah's ark to be floating by any minute now
Another foot of snow from this storm- My kids finally get to experience a snow day in all its' glory!
is it worth a 45 min drive to the mountains?...
75 and sunny yesterday, 30s and raining today with snow tomorrow. ******* New England weather.
I have heard some forecasts of 50oF for tomorrow and then maybe up into the sixties next week, so I think we are mostly out of the bad part of the April cold-snap.
(global warming my ass - it was colder here on Easter than Christmas ::))
We hit a gorgeous 26oC (80oF) today! The fruit trees are in full bloom and my little family is planning to hit the lake this weekend to do some canoeing. Awesome.
It's been extremely wet this spring here in North Texas. I hope the whole summer isn't like that or it will make playing softball miserable. We got rained out/postponed in 4 of 8 games. That sucked.
I hate it when my balls are sweating at work. >:(
Nice up here today, clear & 32°C feels like 35°C. (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/verschiedene/d020.gif)

San Antonio has yet to go above 95 degrees this year, and we are finally drying out after a very wet first half of the year.
Snowed yesterday and this week is the first week in the fall when the forecast temperatures won't climb above freezing for the whole week :-\ Winter has arrived, it would appear.
Yep, were staying below zero. More like -16°C for the day high & -22°C for the low. We had some snow last night & more coming tonight & tomorrow. The winds we have been having makes it feel like -26°C or colder.

Of course the forecast is almost to freezing by Saturday, but a five day forecast is a load of **** anyway >:(
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (AP) -- A wintry storm caked the center of the nation with a thick layer of ice Monday, blacking out more than half a million homes and businesses. At least 13 people were killed on icy highways, and more icy weather was on the way.
A state of emergency was declared for the entire state of Oklahoma.
In Oklahoma City, the sound of branches snapping echoed through many neighborhoods.
"You can hear them falling everywhere," Lonnie Compton said Monday as he shoveled ice off his driveway. Video Watch people cope with ice, power outages »
The National Weather Service posted ice and winter storm warnings lasting until Tuesday morning for parts of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. Missouri declared an emergency on Sunday and put the National Guard on alert.
Oklahoma utilities said some 400,000 customers were blacked out as power lines snapped under the weight of ice and falling tree branches, and utilities in Missouri said more than 100,000 homes and business had no power there.
Roughly 11,000 were blacked out in southern Illinois and more than 5,000 had no electric heat or lights in Kansas, where Gov. Kathleen Sebelius was expecting requests from several counties for emergency declarations.
Ice was as much as an inch thick on tree limbs and power lines in parts of Missouri.
Schools across Oklahoma were closed and some hospitals were relying on backup power generators. Fifty generators and three truckloads of bottled water were to be shipped to blacked-out areas of the state.
Tulsa International Airport had no power and halted flight operations, and most morning flights at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City were canceled because of icy runways. Greyhound bus passengers were stranded overnight at a shelter in a church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and were joined by some local residents who had no heat.
There was no way to estimate when power might be restored, said Oklahoma Gas & Electric spokesman Gil Broyles.
"This is a big one. We've got a massive situation here and it's probably going to be a week to 10 days before we get power on to everybody," said Ed Bettinger, a spokesman for Public Service Company. "It looks like a war zone." Photo See dramatic photos of the deep freeze »
The Oklahoma City suburb of Jones, a town of 2,500 people, had low water pressure because there was no electricity to run well pumps, and firefighters said an early morning fire destroyed most of the community's high school.
The icy weather stretched into the Northeast, where many schools across upstate New York were closed or started late because of icy roads.
On ice-covered Interstate 40 west of Okemah, Oklahoma, four people died in "one huge cluster of an accident" that involved 11 vehicles, said Highway Patrol Trooper Betsey Randolph.
Eight other people also died on icy Oklahoma roads, and Missouri had one death on a slippery highway. In addition, a homeless person died of hypothermia in Oklahoma City, the state medical examiner's office said.
Holy crap! He's back! :-*
Snow. Snow. And some more damn snow.
Kevin
Pretty balmy today, around -22 C though the windchill has it down in the -35 C neighbourhood. Cars are pretty solid: shocks not working well, tires feel like they're square. But I'll enjoy the heat for now as they've forecast severe windchills for tomorrow and the weekend in the -45 C range. Whee!
tires feel like they're square.
A strong cold front from the Northwest Territories is expected to bring some snow local blowing snow and much colder temperatures on Sunday. Northeasterly winds of 30 gusting to 50 km/h combined with 3 to 8 centimetres of snow is expected to result in snow and blowing snow and reduced visibilities. Exposed areas can expect to see a few hours of near blizzard conditions. Wind chill values by Monday morning could approach minus 40 celsius.
Did you send your storm south Dale? >:(
Crazy weather in Tennessee right now...
Crazy weather in Tennessee right now, so far 4 confirmed dead from the round of storms that's rolling through right now.......... 72 degrees right now, we be down to 18 by Sunday night. Gotta love that.
more snow on the ground than yesterday and yet schools are not closed. whats the deal! lol
Beautiful sunny skies and the wind isn't THAT bad, only around 20 kmh but you'll freeze your nads off pretty quickly.
We're fluctuating in and out of a windchill warning - again.
People in Texas are stupid when it comes to ice.
Stay safe
it's snowing here.

Sorry to hear that Brent :(. I wish I would have known sooner -- we would have invited you to the pool-opening party yesterday 8)
Hot and humid here in north Texas. Temp has been in the upper 90's and it's only the start of June. We'll be getting really really hot later.
Isn't that normal fall weather for SoCal? Warm and smoky?
It has been ******* snowing all afternoon >:(
We've gotten snow and sleet the last couple days. It's cold here now... Winter's definitely on the way. It's gonna bump back up into the 60's by Friday or Saturday I hear though, so that's just gonna be hell on the joints.
Yes cold morning in the Cities, but I still braved the 30s and dark to ride the bike to work! ;D

That's hilarious! I'd love to see it!! Not sure what state you're from my friend, but I'm not far away from Fargo and my eyes haven't frozen over yet - and I'm a smoker (which means I have to do that dirty deed outside)
We're supposed to get 7-14 inches of snow tomorrow (that's 18-36cm for the Canadians)
Rain all day today... Creeks are swollen and it's rough going on the roads with hydroplaning, but at least it ain't snow. If this were snow we'd be in some deep **** right now.
The magic block heater line occurs somewhere around Fargo. You'll see the plugs hanging out of every car in Grand Forks (70 miles north of Fargo; 130 miles south of Winnipeg) and on most cars in Fargo. As you go west towards Minneapolis they become a lot less common (it seems). Maybe one of the MN guys can confirm whether there are many/any in that burg, but I don't think so.
Usually switch to 5W30 for winter as well, though they've got a 0W30 out now that might be interesting.I have a friend who is a bimmer nut and he said that with the new high quality synthetics, ie Mobil1, you could safely run those Zero weight oils in the car all year round. You might want to discuss that with you mechanic though. Not sure how much of a difference changing the weight has, where I'm from we usually get a week or less of consistent sub-zero temps, so changing oil weights isn't as much a concern, and block heaters are only found on oil burners, excuse me, diesels.
I love TX weather.
and I'm a smoker (which means I have to do that dirty deed outside)
But somehow people always forget how to drive in the stuff. Amazing.Doesn't ever go away (it seems, and it doesn't for five months) here and people are still morons.

A little late and OT, but I never knew... you hide it from the rest of the group well.
It's been in the teens and low 20's here in St. Paul!!! YAY!! Warm weather!! Looks like we're dipping back down to the -20's next week though. YAY!! Freezing cold and SNOW!! ::)

Rumor is that we are getting hit with anywhere from 3-4 to 8-10 inches of snow here. First they said it would hit on Wednesday night, then it was that it would hit during/just after morning rush hour. Here it is nearly noon and nothing.
snow??? winter is over... its 88F today.
snow??? winter is over... its 88F today.
Texas sounds good about right now. Felt like a summer vacation when I visited last year around this time. Stoopid snow and stoopid Canada. >:(
It is sunny and calm and is supposed to be in the high 60s all week, and we might get as high as 70. We've had a few weeks where it was cold as **** here but for the most part it hasn't really felt like winter at all. We have hardly had any real snow around these parts. It looks like we may be headed towards another drought this summer 'round here. :-\
We are a bit warmer than that here today.
Woke up this morning to a bone chilling 55 degrees this morning...it is July isn't it?
Summer finally arrived, yesterday it hit 28.7 °C & today should go to 28°C & tomorrow 27°. We are staying in the mid 20's for the week thus far with late day or evening thunder boomers.
I blame the Russians, but whatever works for you.
The Okanagan is in a heat wave - 33C / 91F yesterday, 35C / 95F today. And it's continuing next week too, averaging 32C / 90F. I'm melting.
Oh sure, blame Canada! :P :D
Well, how's the weather in your neck of the woods? Mines just ******* great, were sitting at -5°C & it's ******* snowing! 2 weeks ago, we broke a record of 33.5°C. Not really a great summer, sure we had some nice days but the lack of rain sure did not help. Lot's of brown lawns here. :-\

Thanks for passing it along to us >:( ****** summer with lots and lots of rain, nine straight months of below normal temps, then September was great and today it is snowing and sticking. Three inches of snow so far.
While you are at it, its probably a good idea to clean off the roof of your car. It sucks when you get a couple inches of snow, start driving, come to a stop light and all that snow slides forward onto the windshield, you turn on the wipers to clear it, but its too heavy for the wipers and the fail safe bolts release and now your wipers don't work at all.
not sure how cold it gets, but if you get a really dry cold spell and you don't clear the snow off the hood of the car and start driving, the snow will blow up on the windshield and then seemingly get into the intake, come out the defrost vents and fog up the window on the inside, really reducing the visibility. Not sure how clearly I explained that but it's a bitch to deal with because you end up either having to use the scraper on the inside of the window or wait until the car is blowing real heat, not just cold air, to clear your vision.
Oh, and go find an open parking lot after it snows to go do donuts on purpose. It is an absolute blast. If you can get hold of an older rear-wheel drive car it's even more fun. Aside from being fun it can be incredibly instructional on how little control you have once your tires lose grip.
As for donuts. You should probably scout out a parking lot ahead of time. If the parking lot has any large pot holes they might get covered up by the snow, the same with any of those little curb things they use for parking spots. They have a habit of ruining donuts really quick.
I also had to drive with the side window down so I could see a bit better. Crazy.
...then a friend spoke up & said "I thought you guys liked donuts!". :D
Yeah, I made him pay the damn ticket! Asswipe! >:( ;D
8-12 inches expected overnight.
Everything (I mean everything) is closed, so at least I don't have to go to work.
Agree with Mikey - aggravating to drivers behind you too. Not having been in Chi-town in winter, not sure how cold it gets, but if you get a really dry cold spell and you don't clear the snow off the hood of the car and start driving, the snow will blow up on the windshield and then seemingly get into the intake, come out the defrost vents and fog up the window on the inside, really reducing the visibility. Not sure how clearly I explained that but it's a bitch to deal with because you end up either having to use the scraper on the inside of the window or wait until the car is blowing real heat, not just cold air, to clear your vision. I expect it happens in Chicago too, it does for sure in the prairies and it's weird.
On the snow tires even with years of experience I think they're tremendously beneficial if you can afford them. I grew up in this crap and drove for nearly 20 years without them. I have them every year now and consider them to be a very wise use of money. You certainly can get by without them if you are cautious enough.

Really? I was under the impression that it was a good idea to do that every week or two when salt is present?
That doesn't sound pleasant... any other fluids that this might happen to in the car that I need to switch out?
I guess the exception to adding drygas is if the gasoline sold already has atleast 10-15% ethanol in the blend, as drygas is just alcohol, like ethanol. So you might be able to ignore this whole post :)
The Canadians and Minnesotans (sp?) can confirm this, but the only other fluids that could hypothetically be a problem are your engine coolant/antifreeze and any water/condensation in your gas tank. Check you owners manual, sometimes they might recommend increasing the proportion of coolant that is in the water/coolant mix, but I think that's only at really really cold temps (dozens below zero...).
As for the gas tank, particularly on older cars, you can get small amounts of water in the tank. Basically as you use the gas in the tank its replaced by air, and the moisture in the air can condense into water. This water can then get into the fuel lines, freeze and then block or ever break the lines. The two best ways to keep this from happening are always maintain as near a full tank as possible. And periodically adding a bottle of drygas to your tank. Again you should be able to find this at any big box store (Target, Walmart, etc.) as well as autoparts stores, gas stations, etc. Comes in a little blue bottle, a little smaller than a soda bottle. Just pop the top off and add it to the tank before you fill up.

Then today... freezing my balls off. temps at 0 or the negatives with the windchill. I think they said 17 or something for the low? I don't recall exactly, but it was to be in the teens and a lot lower with windchills as the wind is still going ape**** though the advisory's are done.
Not fluids, but it's always a good idea to take your car in and have the air in the tires swapped out. The "summer" air doesn't hold up as well as putting new "winter" air in the tires.

This morning it was 3 degrees here... -17 windchill. I'm new to this. It was alright, but my poor dogs couldn't handle it. One of them flat out refused to do his thing outside.
The Edmonton International Airport saw a record low of -46.1 C and -58.4 C with the windchill, outfreezing even the Arctic.
Edmonton was the coldest place in North America yesterday morning and the second chilliest in the world. Only Siberia was colder... Cha! Can't wait till the end of he week, plus side temps. Why do I live here... ::)
Lake-effect snows are the worst. We get them too even though Erie's 2 hours away. It obviously gets worse the further north you go towards the Lake though, so I always try telling myself that. :)
Yeah, that's my understanding, that we're on the wrong side of the lake for it. The one time that it happened, the storm sort of came in from the NW and then swirled around for some reason pushing back towards the city.
A few inches of snow today... love it.
All this snow in the northeast, but none for Vancouver. It's gonna be a rough winter olympics without any snow!
I've been speaking to people on site. They didn't specify between Whistler and Cypress. But the problem does appear to be at Cypress, where the snowboarding and freestyle events are set to be held. Training time for the athletes has been cut back by two days because of the lack of snow on site at that location. Winter made fun... Bad morning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoYN5-8BE2I)I got a good laugh out of both of these. The meterologist was hilarious.....shovel drift shovel.....oh, boy...
Puring rain here, supposed to be summer and its been dreadfull, flooding all over the state
Less than a week ago (Wed), we were hit with 12" of snow. Today we hit 12C (54F) and it's all gone. Bizarre.
Matt, where are you?
We're not too far away then here in the Dallas area.
For north Texas, this is pretty miserable temperature wise. I think the forecast said we won't be seeing above freezing temperatures until Friday.
I've got about 9 inches
You're free to print that.
Sounds like you're just covered in the white stuff up there.
We went out for a walk this morning and it was just spraying all over our faces.

Queensland, where it floods one week and then we get hit with a cyclone the next
Cat 5 system is due to cross the coast early tomorrow morning, my sister in law lives up where the clcone is going to cross, we told them to evacuate but they wanted to stay.
Apparently biggest system we will have crossing the coast in a generation
Nasty roads here this morn, it rained all nite... icy & black ice... took me awhile to get home... ******* great... >:(
We're hitting mid-70's during the day all this week, one week removed from hitting below freezing for 3 days straight. That's Texas, man.
If it makes anyone feel better, it's about 60 outside right now and I'll wear a short sleeve shirt to work, come home, put on some shorts and enjoy the 75 degree day...oh yeah, and I'll enjoy it again tomorrow.
Sucks for you guys who live on Hoth....er, I mean, northern North America.
Underwhelming MY ASS.
Underwhelming MY ASS.
Yes, I think Nick means where he lives, as I meant in Manhattan, where we were expecting the worst, thanks to the media. Good thing it didn't turn out that way. But that certainly doesn't mean that no one gives a damn about the Carolinas and Virginia (I think they got a lot of coverage). It sucks for all that got effected by this. Hell, I have a friend that lives in the 'burbs of Philly and he was spending most of his night emptying out his basement of water.
As for the media, yeah, I think they may have given NYC a lot of attention, but Irene was supposed to make a huge impact on the city, the largest storm we were supposed to have seen since 1882, I think they were saying.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, because our experience was underwhelming doesn't mean we're belittling the experience others south of us did. Stay strong, McMetal.
Yesterdays Tornado outbreak was freakish.
As of now there are no fatalities reported. This is incredible when you consider the damage and the Truckstop that was hit and the semi trailers that were literally dropped on houses.
More rain on tap for this am.
That footage was incredible.
Where exactly did the tornado(es) pass through?
Not sure if we have any JDers in Calgary, but I sure hope they've grabbed their scuba gear and/or fled for the high ground or their boats. :-\
Was reading a report that the first ten rows are underwater at the Saddledome, the Calgary Flames dressing room is totally submerged and the water has effectively shorted out all the electronics in the building, including the jumbotron wiring. :o

Apparently the Jumbotron was on the floor surface for maintenance work and is completely done.
Oddly we got some pretty heavy rains in Winnipeg the exact same day, to the point where the drain in our new Ikea store was shooting up water and they had about 8" of water on the main floor so they had to close down. Obviously pales in comparison to Calgary though, that's just crazy.
Chicago's pretty white at the moment. At least 6-8" down already and projecting blizzard conditions from 4pm - 9pm tonight. Can easily see 1.5-2' by the time it's all done.
Good luck East coast, it's coming your way next.
