Watto's Junk Yard / RIP Jek Porkins
« on: October 25, 2005, 08:50 PM »
From RS:

Whatsonstage.com reports that William Hootkins (AKA: Porkins) has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58.

Here's a snipet from Whatsonstage.com:

American stage and screen actor William Hootkins - who lived and worked for many years in the UK and was last seen on the London stage in Hitchcock Blonde - has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Diagnosed earlier this year, he died yesterday (Sunday 23 October 2005) at St Johns Hospital in Santa Monica near his Californian home. He was 58.

Born in Dallas, Texas on 5 July 1948, the ebullient Hootkins – known as Bill or ‘Hoot’ to his friends - made his stage debut in a local school production that co-starred a fellow student who later had success in Hollywood, Tommy Lee Jones. He initially tried to distance himself from drama by studying astrophysics and Chinese linguistics at Princeton University, but soon became involved with Princeton’s Intime Theatre group. On the recommendation of his friend, John Lithgow, he moved to the UK after graduation to study at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) and subsequently made his home in this country.

In a busy career, Hootkins worked regularly on both sides of the Atlantic. His first film role was in 1977, playing Jedi fighter Jek Porkins in George Lucas' Star Wars. Though the part was small, it had a big impact. He joked in a Whatsonstage.com interview two years ago (See 20 Questions, 28 Jul 2003): “In a sense, my career's been downhill ever since. Fans still come to greet me at the stage door with action figures of my character and embarrassing photographs for me to sign.”

------

That stinks. He's the second SW actor to die this year.

RIP  :'(

You know, the more I look at it, I think the Vader is the same as the 500th version, perhaps with a different head (no removeable helmet)...

Ah, that's actually a cool idea. Thanks for the info! Sucks about the missing pistol, but oh well. Like Jeff said, 2 of each set should take care of it, which is what I plan on getting.

What's the deal with the second belt anyway? Why is it needed?  ???

And I'm happy to see that the Rebublic is no more. :P

Agreed, not bad at all. The only flaw I have really is the hair, there's too much of it for kids that young.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This is so funny. These are so retarded. I laugh at whoever greenlighted this idea.

Then again, the loss of profit from these may come back to haunt us in the 3 3/4' line. :-\

Veers - Awesome! Looks like kitbashed 2004 Ozzel legs and arms though. The chest is kind of beefy looking too. Hopefully it's because the armor is removable!

Derlin - Another awesome! Definately picking him up.

AT-AT Driver - looks pretty good, though it also appears to be a kitbash. A well done kitbash though. getting it.

R2 - Meh, will probably pass, unless it's the ROTS SP sculpt.

Snowtrooper - WTF? Saga statue rerelease? PASS until they make an SA version.

Rieekan - Again, WTF? I already bought this guy with that cool Hoth table/screen thing. PASS

Vader - Have enough, and they're all SA to boot. PASS

Gonk - Huh? Weird choice, but I'll get it. I would have rather have a rereleased Hoth Luke or a new SA Hoth Han.

I saw the big sale at Target today too. They celebrated by keeping all the new exclusive items in the back! Actually, they put out more of the Obi Pilot wave, but they already had a bunch of Pilot Obi's.

I was just wondering, do you guys thing they cut Han short of leg articulation to match the Saga Skiff Guard Lando from two years ago? He has an awesome upper body articulation wise, but they skimped out on the legs.

And I agree about his sculpt, he looks a bit off. Then again, it kind of looks like the VOTC scuplt, so who knows. It may look better in person.

The Original Trilogy / Re: He died the same time as your father.

There was an EXTREMELY ****** EU explaination for this. Be prepared to go chest deep into crap!

In some comic, Luke is about 1-2 years old. It's a quiet morning on Tatooine. Suddenly, as Beru is picking mushrooms off the vaporators, Darth Maul, with a robotic lower half attacks them. Yes, you read that right. DARTH MAUL WITH A ROBOTIC LOWER HALF. He was sent to kill Luke, I think.

So Obi-Wan appears (already looking like Alec Guiness, even though this is supposed to be 1-2 years after ROTS), and after a while, defeats the robotic Maul. Owen yells at Obi-Wan about the whole Maul thing being entirely his fault, and tells him to stay away from Luke forever.

So yeah, pretty crappy explaination there. Hopefully this helps some.

Why can't Target get an exclusive Lava Reflection Cantina Han as well? >:(
