So, I picked up some greenstuff at Gamesworkshop this weekend.  I thought I'd give it a try instead of having to boil my sculpy all the time.  Any advice when working with this?    Do you guys use any other brand two-part epoxy modeling putty?  I've heard something of plumber's putty I think but I'm not sure if thats the same thing.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Dremel Tool - Questions/Comments
« on: February 26, 2006, 12:05 PM »
Trier posted a few pics of some Dremmel tools he's recently acquired.  It made me wonder what tips/attachments people use most commonly.

For drilling out / hollowing helmets and heads what is preferred, a drill bit type attachmenet (like Trier's photo) or an Aluminum Oxide grinding stone (sort of triangular shaped)?

I've used the AlumOxid grinder in the past with moderate sucess, but the wedge shaped tips sometimes causes problems.

Any other tips, tools, or dremmel tricks??

I've been thinking about trying a photonovel to give some of my customs a "purpose"  Anyway, I've got an idea involving the a side story of Darth Plageous, Darth Sidious and the "Phantom Menace"  We'll see if this goes anywhere but here is a preview pic.  Be kind its my first attempt at photoshop special effects :)

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Adding Body Parts
« on: February 3, 2006, 04:10 PM »
The Splitting torso thread made me think of a question, but I didn't want to hijack that thread with my question so I started a new one.......

When you are adding body parts (such as legs or arms) that were previously removed (boil and pop).  How do you replace the new ones.  Do you use the same boil and pop routine?   I've tried that a little with limited success.  The torso splitting question made me wonder if its easier (preferred?) to split the torso and then attach the new limbs that way.  Thanks in advance.

Collections / BrentS's Collection

This isn't really my entire collection but it is a small non-traditional army that I assembled (pretty inexpensively too) from eBay.

This is the first in a series of newbie-like questions that I'm going to post. I've already introduced myself and some of my customs in another thread.  I'm very impressed by activity on this custom community.  So, I'd like to pick your brains in order to improve my skills.

So my question, how do you keep the paint from chipping around articulation joints (especially sholders, elbows, and knees)?  I've thought about trying to cut away the offending scraping pieces (sounds dangerous) and I've also tried (somewhat unsucessfully) using a Dull Coat varnish (Gamesworkshop Brand).  However, the varnish doesn't seem to protect those joints too well (especially if they are already very prone to scraping).

Any help is much appreciated!

As a post script.  For Newbie Question #2, would you prefer I add to this thread or start a new topic?

I've been posting over at Galactic Hunter for a while but I just saw a link to this web community.  It looks like you have a very active Customs group.  I thought I'd share some of my custom creations.  I just started customizing figures this year (about 6 months ago).  I've been having a blast with my new hobby.  I've been getting a lot of advice from Gregorbian and others at the GH site.

I started this year with the standard clone repaints:

These were made before the actual figures became available.

I've also made a few clone commanders:

I've recently started working away from the clones too.  Here's my first shot at Quinlan Vos:

and General Kenobi

I've got more in the works.

I've actually sold and traded away several of my original customs.  Its been a good way to break into the hobby as it helps cover some of the bills when starting out.
