Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Tsunami death toll tops 116,000

It's unbelieveable.

I'm sure it's going to be much worse as the days go by, with that much to clean up, I'd imagine there's going to be thousands more.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: OTC Visual Carded Checklist

As of today I am only missing one - Bespin Luke. I bought one at Wal-Mart to open, not knowing that he would eventually be the only one I would be missing.

Bespin Luke is a tough one that you never hear mentioned anywhere, I only saw him once.

I always get a bunch of SW escept for this year.

I got a DVD recorder, and a compound miter saw for shelves(been borrowing the old man's for 2yrs., so he got tired of it and bought me my own ;^) .

The only SW I got was an AOTC bowl and cup set, and a shopsw gift certificate(I can put that to good use).

Power of the Force 2 / Re: eBay Shipping Woes
« on: December 27, 2004, 10:04 AM »
I never bid unless they list the specific amount of S&H.

You could get a cheap item, then get killed on S&H if it's not mentioned already.

I don't usually get a lot of high end itmes off ebay.  I don't mind losing a few $ for a shipping prob or something not quite in the condition you expected, but losing hundreds would just suck.  I wait for the conventions and toy shows for that kind of stuff.

Also, I'm, very careful to stay away from glass and breakables on ebay.

Just my practices.

You could ALWAYS have someone with 2 accounts, or friends that get together and overinflate items.

person A says to person B:

I have a rare fig, I'll put it on ebay for about 30% more than what it's worht.  You buy it, and I'll reimburse you.  I'll only lose a small % to ebay, and I'll post what it sold for all over the net giving a false sense of what that items value truly is, sell it a month later, maybe get an extra 20 or 30% for it, and make out in the long run.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Action Figure Display Diorama SWShop

I definately put this in the WTF category.

I too balked at the $69.99 tag (plus S&H you're closer to an $80 item. Sheesh.

I don;t get it, to me it's not all that great with what appears to be 2 types of stands smacked together, a simple cardboard back???? $80?????

Plus, if there are 6 you're looking at about $500 in display stands.  I've seen nicer homeade ones for around $30.

Vintage Kenner / Re: vintage variation list
« on: December 27, 2004, 09:44 AM »
I just posted over at RS about vintage copyright/date stamp variations on my loose vintage.  I have tons, and was curious of there is a complete list of all the possible variations and if there are some that are extremely HTF.

The only post I got back was that there are literally thousands of variations when it comes to date stamps.

For example. there are Hong Kong and Taiwan stamps, plus for example: my F-7's have completely different date stamps from Hong Kong(one has a backwards "2" on it, one has the date and coo in 2 different places, etc.!  so, if this holds true for most or many vintage, I guess there could be a ton of different  combinations.

Oh, I'll be ordering my passes relativley soon. I already have a room reserved, and I already posted the rate.

Now we talk car rentals...

Any good online car rental sites you guys know about?

Vator I'll hook you up to a good rate through Orbitz.

I'll bring a portable DVD player, and Screen my Episode of Highschool Stories, just for you guys. Maybe I can talk to GenCon about getting an autograph booth. :P

Kevin

Budget is always cheap but good.  Also, if you have a Costco card, you usually get an even better rate.

Conventions / Re: Pgh toy show
« on: December 14, 2004, 09:55 PM »
Took me a while to post, but here's what I grabbed:

A vintage carded 12back sandperson.  Big crease down the center of the card, and some spider veins in the top left corner, some edge wear.   $100.

Carded At-At driver ESB with revenge offer. $10 (actually it was a package deal both for $110)

Also a boxed vintage SW TIE fighter (box was in GREAT shape) $35.
A loose vintage Han Solo blaster $10 (it works great)

Also, just recenly bought a collection from a guy pretty cheap: Sears set/Blue snaggletooth(no box), 2 AT-AT's WITH chin guns, etc., Jabbas playset, mini rigs, about 50-60 vintage loose with and without weapons, tie interceptor, original TIE, battle damaged TIE, 2 X-wings, death star space station, ewok villiage, Dagobah playset, etc. etc.  GOT a good deal on the whole lot, only needed a few vehicles, and the sears set, well worth the $$$ I paid.

Since I have them from the last time they were released, I'd be only paying for the packaging (which IS pretty cool)  but I'll probably wait for them to hit clearance, which you can bet they will be a handful of months after they get released.

Grabbed a complete common set a few weeks ago off ebay for $1.25.  Not too shabby. ;^)

The cards are driving me nuts.  It has turned into the same format of the sports cards.  Produce a common set, print thousands, and have some chase cards that keeps everyone spending boo-coo bucks.

I had given up on the chase cards long ago.  Only picking them up when I can find them really really cheap at shows, etc.  There's just so much more stuff I'd rather be spending the $ on.

Collections / Re: Chronicling the construction of my Collection Room
« on: November 15, 2004, 04:09 PM »
Coming along nicely!  How much longer do you anticipate until you feel like you're close to a finished state?  Must feel good though just making some progress.  A lot of my collection is boxed up due to lack of space.  Hopefully I'll have some more space when we get a new place next year.

Once I finish putting stuff up on this last bookcase I have (off to the right of the vintage bookcases) I'll be close enough to a finished state that I'll be content. The thing is there will be stuff that I won't be able to put up, mostly old POTF2 figures, so the entire collection won't be completely displayed, no biggie there though. What I won't be entirely happy with is the lack of space for some dioramas I'd like to do, especially the Battle of Hoth and the Emperor's Arrival (of which I do plan to take a picture of just for poops and giggles), There's going to be space right under my windows, but that's more likely to be taken up by some boxes, most notably the Saga Imperial Shuttle box and the shipping case for the Naboo Royal Starship each of which will have many smaller boxes inside. It definitely feels good to have made such a huge jump in progress, from where I was in July to where I am now. I was getting such a huge itch to put the Vintage up, but one thing or another kept getting in the way. As you'll soon find out when you have your collection out of their cardboard prisons, it can be an exhilirating feeling.

So what's with the vintage figure in the clear baggie in the top right corner?  Also, has your Max Rebo really faded that much?  Or is there something weird about that figure that I don't know about?  Haven't pulled my vintage one out in years, but hopefully it hasn't deteriorated in a similar manner.

Keep the ideas coming!

The vintage figure in the clear baggie is a Brown haired Bespin Luke in a Kenner baggie. I had bought it off of ebay for dirt cheap and had intended to open it to have a loose Bespin Luke in my collection, but then I went and found a loose and complete Blonde Hair Bespin Luke incl. the blue backpack at a comic shop for next to nothing. So with the blonde Luke in tow, I just never opened up the brown Luke and have grown attached to it being in it's "original" state. Yeah my Max Rebo has faded that bad, I can't recall if he looked that faded when I picked the set up a few years back, but unfortunately time has not been kind to ol Maxie. As far as I have seen on the net, most Max Rebo's when they fade will tend to do so as badly as mine has. Sometime down the road, I'd like to replace him with crisper one, but first I'd like to finish up the loose figures collection before swapping out poor conditioned ones. Some of these figs are from my childhood and are pretty beat up, especially the Bespin Han.

Thanks again to everyone for all the comments, I'm happy to see the interest in my long journey.

Cheers!

FYI, my loose Max Rebo is exactly the same way.  The arms I believe are made from a different plastic.  I've seen others that are the same way, fairly common.  Nature of the beast.

If "Blue Harvester" is who I think he is, he too is playing it, or at least as much as Bob is.

He is.  He says he knows you Jess.   ;)

Yeah, Blue Harvester is who you think it is.  we dabble a bit.  I still don't think I know all the rules, we kinda make it up as we go. ;^)

Persoanlly I like the game, but I'd rather play the PC/PS2 games.  Love collecting the mins-even though they it's kinda pricey to get the entire set.
